@themightyant In the good old days we went from PS1 having FF7, 8, 9 to PS2 having FF10. Nobody is going to confuse those games. Now we have 30 vs 60 fps and faster load times. Sure it’s better, but it’s basically free quality of life updates, that you’re paying $900 in new hardware for. 🤑
Sorry, it’s hard for me to remove the experience from the money paid. And that’s what all that money gets people, a better experience, but it’s still the same games.
I think if TVs never evolved from SD CRTs to 1080p then 4k we’d hardly even notice the difference between the GameCube gen games and now. I mean 1st party Switch 2 games barely look better than GC games. I feel like OoT is Nintendo first attempt at something I’d consider “modern”. DKB was great, but it still visually looked like a GC game. The only reason GC games look like trash now is b/c 4k TVs. And honestly Starfox Adventure still holds up.
So yeah, TVs gave consoles an excuse to get better to fill in all the pixels. But if my tv doesn’t improve, I’m good w/ PS5 and Switch 2 if next gen consoles are going to be $1,000. I’m financially game constrained. 😁
I don’t play CoD so I’m asking - did they put the footage in the game b/c you as a player are trying to rescue 100,000 people being trampled to death trying to save Halloween? If that’s the case then I suppose I’m ok with using the footage. If they just wanted some grisly stretcher footage and the game has nothing to do with the event at all then I’m sure other footage is out there. Either war footage or natural disaster footage. The Halloween massacre for lack of a better word seems pretty messed up.
If they want to use footage of the US murdering fishermen in international waters I’m ok with that. 😩
@get2sammyb Yeah that’s my theory as well. Switch might have had some bottlenecks for the long promised Genshin but the Switch 2 seems a fairly legit piece of hardware keeping up with more modern games, so I’m pretty sure it can run them. The simplest reason almost none of them show up - it does have Fortnite and Disney Speedstorm - is that someone high up at Nintendo doesn’t like Hoyoverse and similar. Could be an anti-Chinese thing, my geopolitical knowledge is somewhat limited.
I suppose someone could make the argument someone at Hoyoverse has something against Nintendo and doesn’t want to be on Switch but I don’t see that as realistic, there’s money to be made there.
But I’m guessing we’ll never know. Maybe Sony is paying them off. 😂 jk

We really are at the point of diminishing returns. If we don’t move on to 8k TVs I really don’t see how they’ll ever need a PS7 after 6. I am glad I got to live through the “bit” revolution of gaming consoles, more fun than the race to 1GHZ cpus, but the evolution is boring me a bit.

Just now I saw the article Repost on BS and saw NTE mentioned. It’s only 3 letters, not sure how you can’t fit it in the title. Gonna be great when January rolls around and you’re writing numerous articles about both NTE and ANANTA and the titles for both simply say “GTA like”.😝
I’m enjoying my time with the characters in NTE but the stories are short and the interactions sometimes not voiced. The other 80-90% of the game I’m not really bothering with. All this truck stuff sounds like the coffee shop stuff. I collect my fons daily but that’s it. Pretty sure I’ll keep going, I need to see what happens when Zero finds out they’re just an anomaly, but I’m thinking ANANTA will be more to my liking. NTE 2.0.

Why not both openings? I’ve already quit 7 Deadly Sins, ran out of time. Fortnite as well. Kinda miss it a bit but oh well.

Intergalactic has got to be waiting to be a dual gen release at this point. I mean sure probably 98% of PS6 games will also have PS5 versions fir 3 years but I'm starting to wonder if Sony wants Intergalactic as a PS6 launch title? 🤷
PS5 selling the same as PS4 doesn't surprise me, the player base is the player base, moving on after nearly 6 years. I do wonder how many Pros were replacements for base models and not new gamers growing the base but probably similar to PS4 so it's a wash.
PS6 may sell worse. Almost certainly a PS3 comparison, slow to start fine by the end.
Played the 5 level tutorial on Switch 2 today. I like the base game but there was way too much for my brain to want to deal with. I’m sure it would be boring as all get out without the different coins and items and other things but it’s too much for me. Probably for the best. 😂
@nomither6 I’d say yes, but then I’d have to say isn’t a Mac just a stationary iPhone? Mac runs MacOS and iPhone and iPad run iOS so I think an iPhone and an iPad are the same thing but Mac is different. The fact that Apple just announced a Mac with a touchscreen today, a first, and iPads and iPhones have both had touchscreens since the very beginning I think does make them different devices.
@nomither6 You’re assuming PC itself has a future. Admittedly it has more of a future than video game consoles, but since I got this iPad I almost never turn on my PC. True I’m not a PC gamer, those people will want PCs to game. Unless the handheld get good enough.

As long as there are video games there will be Mario, Monster Hunter, Zelda, FF, Pokemon and RE games. And as long as there is new hardware there will be ports of RE4 b/c if it can play games RE4 will be there.
I do think consoles are doomed and future generations will just be playing games on their phones with wireless streaming to their tvs but since Capcom doesn’t make hardware anyway they have nothing to worry about.
Looking forward to watching this when we some day sign up for Netflix again. Seemingly the only streaming service on the planet that doesn't have Black Friday sales. 🤑
My wife hasn't seen season 1 yet so I have an excuse to watch that again with her. Hopefully watching them back to back won't make this season seem that much worse.

Since this is a Sony first site it would be nice to see a breakdown of physical vs digital for newer Capcom PS4 (if there are still any) and PS5 games. I’m not good with this but I think they had Pragmata and Onimusha this year, probably several more last year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those games are near 33% physical, and I can’t imagine just nonchalantly throwing away a third of your sales for no reason.
PS6 being fully digital will be that reason. I wonder if the PS6 Portable will have proprietary memory cards? 😝

@LiamCroft Nice review, hit all the pertinent points for me, difficulty and length. 😂 The lore being a turn off for players could actually be a plus for my wife and I if we watch my kid play it. Currently nearing the end of Darksiders 2, which sounds like it has a similar map structure, then have 3 to go. The gameplay sounds right up their alley. We’ll wait for physical next year, give them time for all the inevitable updates and patches. 😝

I’ve been saying it’s a PS5 portable, not a PS6, for quite awhile now. In fact my first reaction to reading the title of this article was - does “every other device on the market” mean only other portables, which should be expected as it’s new, or is it really going to be more capable than a PS5 Pro and whatever the top line Xbox currently, not sure if XSX ever go5 a Pro.
If they make a handheld PS6 more capable than a PS5 Pro it’s going to cost $2,500. If they make a portable PS6 that can play native 4k 120fps games at 1080p and 30FPS then I’m not sure it’s more capable than a PS5 Pro and it’s basically XS S.
It will be more powerful than a Switch 2 or Rog Xbox so king of the portables, sure, but if it isn’t doing tv out at PS6 levels then it isn’t a PS6. And if Sony wants to do both for $1,000 and $1,500 well that’s a choice but I’m not sure it’s a good one. But we’ll see I guess. I’m done after this gen anyway, but my kids will have to decide. I think they’ll choose PC and Nintendo.
Considering everything I keep reading in the news about AI being used by script kiddies to break things, and perhaps even worse AI just breaking things on its own, the firmware updates seem necessary and are only going to get more frequent. You got the head of Epic games saying- yes it’s good to use AI in our games like Fortnite- so how long before that AI just starts doing whatever it wants with our accounts and our hardware?
The hackers and the pirates are going to do their thing, and Sony is going to do theirs. And AI is going to destroy us all regardless.

Near the end of this PBZ trailer she said “All the dialogue in this game is just lines from Mortal Kombat”. 😂 The English voice acting is really bad overall. If we watch my kid play it hopefully they have Japanese or Chinese or Korean or something.
Further out in January we watched this trailer for ANANTA. I’m just calling it NTE 2.0. NTE is in big trouble. I don’t see how they can compete with this. 100 hours of gameplay day 1 is a lot. Having the main characters just be the Appraiser and Mint is salt in the wound. I’ll likely switch. 😝
@Max_the_German FF7 is an interesting one, at least for us, as we already own parts 1 & 2 digitally b/c they offered part 1 free w/ part 2. W/ part 3 having dlc I’m in no rush to buy it at all. So then I have to decide if I wait for the complete edition or the complete trilogy edition on disc. Admittedly that would be a lot of discs. 😂
At least we know there won’t be any complete editions on disc on PS6.😝

Trying to recall the last time I was excited enough about anything to consider taking time off. I'm trying to remember even the last movie I rushed to see day 1. Being dead inside is weird.
If I was going to take time off it might gave been fir FF7 PT3 but all of the dlc makes mecrealuze there's really no rush, and everything is released in beta these days. Heck even some movies, major motion pictures, get re-released "new &i mproved". 😝

Well between Gears, GTA and Fable Xbox is looking much better than I thought. I agree with your close enough numbers though of Xbox only being at about 35M which really makes me wonder why MS would even bother with another one when they can just go 3rd party. I mean they own Windows so they’re still kind of 1st party on PC. And they can keep licensing “Xbox” logos on Rog Ally handhelds. But other than that I’m thinking the Xbox division should just go the way of LIV golf and end it. Or maybe even sell it PIF. Nintendo has got to be planning a cheaper Switch Lite 2 or Switch 2 Lite for kids, either when Pokemon releases next year or maybe the year after that. It won’t be as cheap as a $199 Lite but even $299 is better than $549. The screen is so big on the 2 they can cut it by like a 1/3 to save money. And no Joymouse magnets. It’s gotta be coming. Maybe $349, which is a big ask for a kids toy, but it will still sell. Maybe they tie it in with a new Animal Crossing? Hopefully not a new global pandemic though. 😝
Not surprised. All physical discs are leaving the mainstream arena but Ultra 4k always seemed a bit too late and a bridge too far.
We borrow a lot of movies from our public library, my kid weekly, and most of those are dvds that we play on our PS3 Skinnier (the cheap slide top) and occasionally they’ll get a blu-ray, currently Black Widow, that we still play on our PS3 b/c why burn out my PS5 drive. Don’t think our library even carries 4k discs. I own Akira on 4k b/c it came in the box with the dvd and blue-ray. I also own it on VHS tape b/c it’s Akira. We don’t own a functioning VHS player though.
So while a 4k disc on a 4k tv would probably be ideal, I think most people are happy with their blue rays on 4k tv when streaming came along. I still don’t like watching dvds, even as good as the PS3 is, but even with a 75” 4k tv I don’t really see the need for 4k discs, blueray are good enough.
I own a lot of PS2 games I can’t play b/c no PS2. Maybe Sony can make PS6 have native PS2 support to drum out sales? Oh yeah, right, no disc drive, so no. 😝
Maybe someday we’ll all just have generic PCs hooked up to our TVs with drives that play everything, movies and games. Well not VHS tapes though, that Akira is staying on the shelf. 😁
Just asked my kid who is into violent gaming and they said “I don’t really care too.” so that’s us out. We’ll be getting our remake fix is a couple of weeks anyway as we still haven’t played OoT.

MS selling Xbox in whole or in parts seems a given though. The money isn’t there. Why stay in a business to lose money? Xbox has lasted decades longer than Zune.
@Gamer83 Man, I really don’t know what to expect from the Zelda movie. I’ve seen so many fantasy movies, sword & sandal movies, and the like. But Zelda is kind of its own thing. It needs to be serious, yet not take itself too seriously. It needs action w/o being an action movie. It basically can’t win so I appreciate that someone is even attempting it.
I do think, and hope, that I’ll like it, but I don’t revere Zelda so I’m an easy sell. I think the more Zelda fans don’t like it the better it has a chance to be good. Link has to talk, you can’t have a silent protagonist in a film. 😂

I’m not a SF fan so no rooting interest so will probably watch it some day, but it is ways down the list. I still haven’t seen MK2 yet even though I liked the first. I’ve seen Spiderman and Odyssey in theaters, and I’ll likely go see Dune 3 and Doomsday, but that’s about it. Next year I’ll see Godzilla & Kong Supernova and Zelda in theaters along with Secret Wars. I’m very picky.
I still want to watch Supergirl, we have HBO but 7 ads seemed like a bit, and Grogu and Avatar Fire and Ash when we sign up for Disney+ soon for VisionQuest. Hopefully I’ll find a Black November deal.
I’ll get Paramount+ eventually and watch this. Kamehameha or whatever.😂

PS5 selling the same as PS4 doesn't surprise me, the player base is the player base, moving on after nearly 6 years. I do wonder how many Pros were replacements for base models and not new gamers growing the base but probably similar to PS4 so it's a wash.
PS6 may sell worse. Almost certainly a PS3 comparison, slow to start fine by the end.

Played the 5 level tutorial on Switch 2 today. I like the base game but there was way too much for my brain to want to deal with. I’m sure it would be boring as all get out without the different coins and items and other things but it’s too much for me. Probably for the best. 😂

@nomither6 I’d say yes, but then I’d have to say isn’t a Mac just a stationary iPhone? Mac runs MacOS and iPhone and iPad run iOS so I think an iPhone and an iPad are the same thing but Mac is different. The fact that Apple just announced a Mac with a touchscreen today, a first, and iPads and iPhones have both had touchscreens since the very beginning I think does make them different devices.

As long as there are video games there will be Mario, Monster Hunter, Zelda, FF, Pokemon and RE games. And as long as there is new hardware there will be ports of RE4 b/c if it can play games RE4 will be there.
I do think consoles are doomed and future generations will just be playing games on their phones with wireless streaming to their tvs but since Capcom doesn’t make hardware anyway they have nothing to worry about.

Since this is a Sony first site it would be nice to see a breakdown of physical vs digital for newer Capcom PS4 (if there are still any) and PS5 games. I’m not good with this but I think they had Pragmata and Onimusha this year, probably several more last year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those games are near 33% physical, and I can’t imagine just nonchalantly throwing away a third of your sales for no reason.
PS6 being fully digital will be that reason. I wonder if the PS6 Portable will have proprietary memory cards? 😝

@LiamCroft Nice review, hit all the pertinent points for me, difficulty and length. 😂 The lore being a turn off for players could actually be a plus for my wife and I if we watch my kid play it. Currently nearing the end of Darksiders 2, which sounds like it has a similar map structure, then have 3 to go. The gameplay sounds right up their alley. We’ll wait for physical next year, give them time for all the inevitable updates and patches. 😝

On the one hand only 26 people losing their jobs seems like such a small number these days, but on the other hand if Sucker Punch really did only employ about 230 people that’s about 12% of the company, which is a chunk. 😩

I’ve been saying it’s a PS5 portable, not a PS6, for quite awhile now. In fact my first reaction to reading the title of this article was - does “every other device on the market” mean only other portables, which should be expected as it’s new, or is it really going to be more capable than a PS5 Pro and whatever the top line Xbox currently, not sure if XSX ever go5 a Pro.
If they make a handheld PS6 more capable than a PS5 Pro it’s going to cost $2,500. If they make a portable PS6 that can play native 4k 120fps games at 1080p and 30FPS then I’m not sure it’s more capable than a PS5 Pro and it’s basically XS S.
It will be more powerful than a Switch 2 or Rog Xbox so king of the portables, sure, but if it isn’t doing tv out at PS6 levels then it isn’t a PS6. And if Sony wants to do both for $1,000 and $1,500 well that’s a choice but I’m not sure it’s a good one. But we’ll see I guess. I’m done after this gen anyway, but my kids will have to decide. I think they’ll choose PC and Nintendo.

Considering everything I keep reading in the news about AI being used by script kiddies to break things, and perhaps even worse AI just breaking things on its own, the firmware updates seem necessary and are only going to get more frequent. You got the head of Epic games saying- yes it’s good to use AI in our games like Fortnite- so how long before that AI just starts doing whatever it wants with our accounts and our hardware?
The hackers and the pirates are going to do their thing, and Sony is going to do theirs. And AI is going to destroy us all regardless.

Further out in January we watched this trailer for ANANTA. I’m just calling it NTE 2.0. NTE is in big trouble. I don’t see how they can compete with this. 100 hours of gameplay day 1 is a lot. Having the main characters just be the Appraiser and Mint is salt in the wound. I’ll likely switch. 😝

@Max_the_German FF7 is an interesting one, at least for us, as we already own parts 1 & 2 digitally b/c they offered part 1 free w/ part 2. W/ part 3 having dlc I’m in no rush to buy it at all. So then I have to decide if I wait for the complete edition or the complete trilogy edition on disc. Admittedly that would be a lot of discs. 😂
At least we know there won’t be any complete editions on disc on PS6.😝

If I was going to take time off it might gave been fir FF7 PT3 but all of the dlc makes mecrealuze there's really no rush, and everything is released in beta these days. Heck even some movies, major motion pictures, get re-released "new &i mproved". 😝
When I'm not feeling dead inside I'm wishing I was. 🤣

Well between Gears, GTA and Fable Xbox is looking much better than I thought. I agree with your close enough numbers though of Xbox only being at about 35M which really makes me wonder why MS would even bother with another one when they can just go 3rd party. I mean they own Windows so they’re still kind of 1st party on PC. And they can keep licensing “Xbox” logos on Rog Ally handhelds. But other than that I’m thinking the Xbox division should just go the way of LIV golf and end it. Or maybe even sell it PIF. Maybe Jared Kushner can buy it for them, b/c everything has to be political these days. 🤬

@HonestHick Well they did have Mario Kart, which has something ridiculous like a 50% attach rate. We got ours but I didn’t like it so I keep playing Disney Speedstorm instead.😝 OoT may be the only game they need for now, and Pokemon we know is coming.
OoT releasing just weeks before GTA will help their console stay relevant this holiday. I don’t know what keeps Xbox relevant. I guess Fable? 🤷🏻♂️

I’m glad Sony got some hardware sales they can attribute to Wolverine b/c really what other games have they had recently? Having to go back 2 years just to get to Hellsivers 2 kind of says a lot. And we’ll never know if sales were Wolverine related, or Onimusha or GTA, or a little of both or all 3, but at least Sony finally has a win. Feels like it’s been forever.

Nintendo has got to be planning a cheaper Switch Lite 2 or Switch 2 Lite for kids, either when Pokemon releases next year or maybe the year after that. It won’t be as cheap as a $199 Lite but even $299 is better than $549. The screen is so big on the 2 they can cut it by like a 1/3 to save money. And no Joymouse magnets. It’s gotta be coming. Maybe $349, which is a big ask for a kids toy, but it will still sell. Maybe they tie it in with a new Animal Crossing? Hopefully not a new global pandemic though. 😝

Not surprised. All physical discs are leaving the mainstream arena but Ultra 4k always seemed a bit too late and a bridge too far.
We borrow a lot of movies from our public library, my kid weekly, and most of those are dvds that we play on our PS3 Skinnier (the cheap slide top) and occasionally they’ll get a blu-ray, currently Black Widow, that we still play on our PS3 b/c why burn out my PS5 drive. Don’t think our library even carries 4k discs. I own Akira on 4k b/c it came in the box with the dvd and blue-ray. I also own it on VHS tape b/c it’s Akira. We don’t own a functioning VHS player though.
So while a 4k disc on a 4k tv would probably be ideal, I think most people are happy with their blue rays on 4k tv when streaming came along. I still don’t like watching dvds, even as good as the PS3 is, but even with a 75” 4k tv I don’t really see the need for 4k discs, blueray are good enough.
I own a lot of PS2 games I can’t play b/c no PS2. Maybe Sony can make PS6 have native PS2 support to drum out sales? Oh yeah, right, no disc drive, so no. 😝
Maybe someday we’ll all just have generic PCs hooked up to our TVs with drives that play everything, movies and games. Well not VHS tapes though, that Akira is staying on the shelf. 😁

There’s very little else I’m happy about growing old but console gaming has had like a good 30-40 year run that I got to enjoy and that’s not nothing.
From here on out it’s just hardware that’s too expensive to play cheap AI slop. No thanks.

@XenonKnight Next Gen might be the last Gen for all home consoles, even Sony, as the price just spirals out of control, but the handheld tech catches up just enough. Nintendo gave up home consoles a decade ago, they aren’t stopping their handhelds, or Pokemon games, ever, but they do their own thing. Until everyone else starts doing their thing.
MS selling Xbox in whole or in parts seems a given though. The money isn’t there. Why stay in a business to lose money? Xbox has lasted decades longer than Zune.

@Gamer83 Man, I really don’t know what to expect from the Zelda movie. I’ve seen so many fantasy movies, sword & sandal movies, and the like. But Zelda is kind of its own thing. It needs to be serious, yet not take itself too seriously. It needs action w/o being an action movie. It basically can’t win so I appreciate that someone is even attempting it.
I do think, and hope, that I’ll like it, but I don’t revere Zelda so I’m an easy sell. I think the more Zelda fans don’t like it the better it has a chance to be good. Link has to talk, you can’t have a silent protagonist in a film. 😂

How many years after Dreamcast launched before Sega went 3rd party? If Xbox is still owned and operated that long after Helix launches then I’ll change my mind, but not before then.

I’m not a SF fan so no rooting interest so will probably watch it some day, but it is ways down the list. I still haven’t seen MK2 yet even though I liked the first. I’ve seen Spiderman and Odyssey in theaters, and I’ll likely go see Dune 3 and Doomsday, but that’s about it. Next year I’ll see Godzilla & Kong Supernova and Zelda in theaters along with Secret Wars. I’m very picky.
I still want to watch Supergirl, we have HBO but 7 ads seemed like a bit, and Grogu and Avatar Fire and Ash when we sign up for Disney+ soon for VisionQuest. Hopefully I’ll find a Black November deal.
I’ll get Paramount+ eventually and watch this. Kamehameha or whatever.😂
