Not a fan of farming or house building and those Minecraft like controls make me really not want to do it, but 1.9 puts us 1 step closer to 2.0 which I'm assuming will be a new story region, and I am so ready to live on. 1.8 has been really good though, just finished it last night. Well except for that 5 in a row minigame, I got stuck on board 4, and it just takes too long.
That picture on top w/ Nikki wearing what looks like the dragon outfit has me rethinking spending my 50,000 diamonds to try and get it. I usually don't bother w/ the 5 star 1 piece per 10 pull banners, too annoying, I used my resonance to get the frosty sword outfit last night. Much better odds, just used my 24 temporary pulls.ð But if we can dragon ride up there it might be worth it. Hmmm...
@katamariUK Back in March they said they were adding an option to invert X, Y cameras but it looks like they actually still haven't done it yet.
I owned an Xbox 1 for about 6 months in 2017 and played this, and it was OK. Then I played 2 and 3 and realized this really was just a setup game for the other 2. Much like I'd never play Uncharted again, thought it was trash, unless I was playing the rest right after b/c U2 is my favorite interactive movie, I wouldn't play GoW w/o having 2 and 3 ready to go. A complete trilogy bundle or $70, the current going market rate, would be OK, but $40 just for 1 seems a tad much.
@RobN OK so I suppose if you want to be technical, they are attempting to keep it going for 96 straight hours. There are no guarantees, I was just looking for their baseline. I guess I'm just used to these things just being an hour or so here and there. Thanks.
This game reads like a list of everything I would put in a game to make the game I would least like to play - first person, stealth, trial & error - but also sex and Hellraiser. Maybe I'll watch a speed run. ð
Maybe instead of saying "gone gold" we should start saying games are officially "beta bronze". ðĐ
I'm OK w/ updates when they are necessary to fix bugs that pop up unexpectedly when a million people play a game in ways the dev didn't forsee, but if it's a Day 1 patch, before people start playing it and breaking it, then I'm sorry but the game was never gold. A year or so later when the GotY or Deluxe or Directors Cut edition releases, then, and only them, is it gold. Gold means done, not begun to play test it. ð
Thanks for adding the "Your Local Time" to the bottom of the lists. Personally I would have put it on top b/c most people are probably going to stop reading time zones after finding out what time it is in theirs but I appreciate you need to meet some metric quota for time spent people reading a page so fair game. Now that I know it's at the bottom of the lists I can skip on down.ð
Not being on Switch 2 is kinda a bummer but this isn't the place to talk about that any further.
So is this 96 straight hours of gameplay? It's not 1 of those an hour here an hour there but most of them while I'm sleeping? That's pretty nice of them.
Oh and for those of you who don't know this is the end of summer holiday weekend in the US, Monday is Labor day, then the kids are back at school. So it's a nice time for them to have this run through Monday night.ð

@ShogunRok Watched the YT video review last night w/ the missus while we were catching up on all the game trailers that look Ike Stellar Blade meets Elden Ring and I was wondering if that was you talking or someone else and was whoever it is just reading this review? While it takes my wife and I a bit to get past the accent, very lovely, she said the talking seemed a bit off, like someone who wasn't comfortable talking into a mic. Though reading this review now I'm thinking maybe it sounded that way b/c someone, you or someone else, wasn't talking, they were reading? Hard to sound natural reading, especially if it's someone else's words, throws off the feeling and the tempo. Thanks.
Game looks interesting, but at only 3 hours I'm not buying it. Not even paying $15 for a month of PS+ Extra like I did when PLucky Squire came out. But it looks good. ð
Isn't there always a September show from these companies to promote their holiday games? Guess, rumor, leak, it's September, something is probably being shown.ðĪ·ââïļ
I'm not as anti AI as I probably should be, but if they are stealing people's faces and literally putting words into their mouths I have a serious problem with that. If the "content creators" signed their soul away for a few $ well I feel it would be hypocritical of me to be pro SW and anti soul selling so they can do what they want.
Government's probably should start making laws preventing AI from looking human at the very least though. If they want to use AI to advertise use a talking rat, not something human looking. It's inevitable in movies and fictional TV programming but it shouldn't be faking real humans in ads, sports or the news. It probably will, but it shouldn't.
@Fatewalker OK thanks, I'll skip those 2 then. Thought about playing the added co-op in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker on Switch 2 but I forgot we own that on Wii U. Nintendo mocks me yet again.
@Fatewalker Thanks. I am unfamiliar with Little Nightmares. Probably b/c it has nightmares in the title and that isn't my thing, but I'll look into them if couch co-op is involved.
I remember discuss this w/ Sammy about a month ago and Honest Trailers just put one up for it in the past few days. Looking forward to watching it, and the HT, after my next go round w/ NF, whenever they get around to releasing season 4 of The Witcher.
I'm pretty sure it's Capitalism that makes game devs wage slaves, not Game Pass.ðĪ
Not Sony though, no wage slaves there, just a whole lot of people Sony paid to make multi-player games, then cancelled the games, then fired the employees.
I don't really like when games that run on a system all of a sudden stop running on a system, but it will be 5 years in November since the PS5 launched, historically that's an entire console generation, so it's not like they pulled it soon after release.
So it probably does suck for some people but it's also understandable.
I mean surely it has to make that release date in the middle of 2026 after saying it was due out in 2025.
My guess is they picked May b/c they really thought it would be ready by March but they realized their guesses are always wrong so they picked May, basically having the March delay announcement already built in. I mean how do you go from 2025 to May?
So I'm guessing it goes "gold" in March, which these days means late alpha or early beta, and thry gave a couple of months of Day 1 patches to be ready for Day 1. Basically the game will double in size on Day 1. Or just replace itself with the update.
Anyway, I think it releases in May. If not, people should be fired.
Having to grind the characters w/ the daily gift limit sounds out of place in a full priced game. I played on Apple Arcade w/ a free month and never got to finish b/c time ran out, don't think I could go through all of that again.
Is the game currently up to date? Switch released with a few of the later sections missing and they got added in later.
Skipped not E3, may watch a little of not E3 but in German while I eat my lunch since it's my lunch time, but I'm not expecting much.
Are there no famous Germans who can lead a live German show in German w/ some poorly YT generated subtitles? If it's GK again it jyst feels like the same show we had 2 months ago. At least the holiday show is an "awards" show. How many game trailers does this guy need to get very excited for in 1 summer? ðĪŠ
@Haruki_NLI @8thDoctor That was sort of my reaction as well. Sony may be on their PS1-PS2 era in anime but worldwide it feels a bit past that to me. I know Manga had a huge growth spurt during COVID - print is not dead - and gas slowed down while still growing, I'm assuming anime has a similar trajectory. Still growing, but the Crunchy roll explosion is probably more linear than exponential now. Though Sony owns it so I guess they know better. Still feels later than earlier though but I suppose Sony has money to make yet.
@themightyant If people just want to play Fortnite, CoD or sports games they can buy a PC or an Xbox. But it seems to me a lot of people choose PS over PC and Xbox b/c they want the exclusives available only on PS.
Now this doesn't mean you only play those games. I'm a PS and Nintendo gamer, no PC or Xbox, and I buy that hardware b/c of the single player exclusives, but like 90% of my time is spent playing Fortnite and other free games. Not b/c I like them more, but b/c I'm still waiting for Wolverine to release. I mean get a release date, I mean show a trailer.ð Nintendo I only play 1st party games on b/c I'm pretty sure that's why that hardware exists. ð
So yes, most hours and dollars (euros, pounds, etc) spent on PS gaming are on sports games, CoD and GTAV b/c that's what people do in between the 1 short game a year Sony releases - GoW, HZd/FW, Spiderman, Uncharted, Ghost. But if Sony didn't have that 1 game a year more people would probably play on Xbox or PC, and I'd just play whatever on Nintendo. Or Apple Arcade if need be.
I mean sure, some people are buying Sony hardware only for Destiny 2, or Minecraft, or FF14, but I still think the 1st party exclusives are a big draw. The problem is there aren't enough of those any more b/c of the 5 year dev cycle, so Sony went all in on live service, failed miserably, Helldivers as the big exception, and are now trying to figure it out.
How many big single player games has Sony canceled the past 5 years? Is there a big list like this chronicling it? Sony knows they can cancel all of these live service games b/c they know people are buying their hardware for the other games, not these. When they start canceling all their single player exclusives and fully commit to live service then yes, it's all about that. But they might as well give up their hardware then as well, PC, and Nintendo, win.
@TrollOfWar A car can be a thing you drive yourself around in as an adult, but it's also a thing your parents drive you around in as a kid.
I think sports games have live service attributes but I still think people can buy them and play them single player or maybe just with a friend. Live service still seems to be a thing unto itself. All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares and such.
@sanderson72 PS2 will continue to sell as long as need be.ð
Don't know about the extra million PS4, but I do feel like Sony, "the company that knows generations", showed off PS5 w/ several games like GoW and HFW that sort of seemed like they were pushing next gen exclusivity, b/c they know generations, when they weren't. So, I'm guessing PS6 maybe off to a slow start while the cheaper PS5 keeps selling to play all the same games. Sony knows money, not generations.
PS6 is going to be the PS4 Pro Pro Pro Pro (I just need 1 PS4 game to release after it launches ðĪĢ)
New $70 sports games come out every year though, does less than a year of support qualify as a long period of time?
Not saying a game needs to be free to start, the $40 games are fine, but it's really about the timeline for me. Fortnite, PUBG, Overwatch, Destiny. These games launched and the devs said "you'll be playing these FOR YEARS". Games like AC, Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, to me they're built for day 1 base game, story fragments later.
Maybe I need to update my perspective but I'm not ready to call every game that has a 1 time $20 dlc live service or GaaS. Do people even say free-to-play or free-to-start anymore? I've been trying to get "$60-to-start" to be a thing for years just for CoD but sadly it hasn't caught on. ð DLC, microtransactions, season passes, it's fluid.
Mario Kart 8 DX on Switch started as the Deluxe complete edition of a Wii U game. Like 5 years after it released they added a 2 year long season pass. It released as a complete game, years later it became live service. Fluid.
And therein lies the rub. ð I think we agree on most things, probably even this. I'm always up for being proven wrong, being so negative all of the time is such a drag, and I'm just going to add a couple of more things.
First, and sort of on topic, the 5 year dev cycle you mentioned is killing me. Or at least my joy in gaming.ðĐ Had an hour long dinner conversation with my kids last night about the good old days of gaming, the PS2 years. I'm a graphics first guy so my glory days rarely go back earlier than that though my gaming goes back to Pong. We were talking mostly about Jak & Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. PS2 had like 3 each of those games. PS3 had several R&C. PS4 had a movie reboot. PS5 1 game. That's all we really get the past 2 gens, 1 game every gen coupled w/ some dual ports.
I'm very graphic focused, I don't like pixels or HD-2D, but Dreamcast, GameCube and PS2 were good enough. I'd settle for those if I could get a new game every 2-3 years. FF7,8,9 released 3yrs in a row.ð
Second and more on topic. Variety is good. But it should be natural growth. It really feels like Sony put some of these devs on the path to life service. Games are art, they shouldn't be dictated by management. Also management shouldn't have purchased so many live service games knowing their core audience is single player focused. Make those games, collect your 30% from the others. But no, they had to get greedy, and even including Helldivers I'm betting it cost them. I'd say they lost this generation but w/ MS doing MS things, well, they're still OK.
@Jey887 After reading the comments and the article again, and yant's reply, looks like I was probably wrong, that's 1st party revenue. A lot of it maybe from Helldivers and MLB The Show. Somebody wondered if that includes PS+ subs but surely that has to be a separate category. But who knows, it's all corporate speak and statistics, 2 things that should never go together.ð
@ZeroSum Thanks, that my viewpoint as well. Sports games are really the antithesis of "live service" as they get a new full priced game every year where live service games run 3 or 5 or more. I feel like Minecraft is either or, no seasons but the dlc is constant. And despite several spinoff and new engines it's basically been just Minecraft. Even Destiny is on 2.
@themightyant If 40% of Sony's first party revenue "for the quarter" was microtransactiins maybe that's in part due to them not having any new1st party games that quarter? That's half joking, half serious. I'm sure they had some new game sales but I feel like digital transactions are the way to make money. But in established games, not new live service. Though I suppose eventually they'll get their Fortnite or Genshin Impact. But at what cost?
@themightyant Tried to find the best I can PS4 sales after PS5 launched. Looks like PS4 had 113m in Nov 2020 and finished at 117 so you are correct, only about 4mil PS4 sold after PS5 launched.
I think w/ the price PS6 will be, and I think Sony will do a lot less creative marketing w/ PS6 like they did w/ OS5 when it looked like a lot of games would be PS5 exclusively before the PS4 versions were officially announced, I think another 5 mil could be doable. So we'll have to see where PS5 is when PS6 launches. Having just waited 8 years or Switch 2 who knows when that will be. Does look like an uphill climb w/o a big price cut though. Which isn't happening in current world economics
@themightyant I'll grant you Helldivers, but are MLB the Show and Gran Turismo really considered to be live service games? In my head they are both single player games that have multi-player components. I consider live service to be really online only w/ maybe some tutorial single player. Or maybe my brain just sees sports games as their own thing.
Could you tell reading any of this if that 40% was actually from their own games? I assumed it was from games like Fortnite and the Gatcha games and all the other games they get a cut from like GTA online. You know, the money they would still be making from live service even if they never made one themselves. If 40% of their revenue is from their own games like Helldivers and the Show more power to them.
I still have to think they've lost more money on their live service push w/ all the money they've spent acquiring games and companies then they've made on Helldivers. I'm still not considering sports fame w/ micro transactions as live service, though maybe in the future I will. In the future where every game is a free trial to start before the floodgates open. Disney Speedstorm is insane. ðĪ

Solid list of games, in that I've heard of all of them. A lot of these sales lately I'm scrambling just to find games I'm familiar with.
Probably not buying any right now, my backlog has reached capacity in my brain, but it's a decent list w/ some potential for later on.
Re: Shameful AI Ads Put the Spotlight on The First Descendant
Re: Cute Co-Op Puzzle Platformer LEGO Voyagers Comes to PS5, PS4 in September
@Fatewalker OK thanks, I'll skip those 2 then. Thought about playing the added co-op in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker on Switch 2 but I forgot we own that on Wii U. Nintendo mocks me yet again.
Re: Cute Co-Op Puzzle Platformer LEGO Voyagers Comes to PS5, PS4 in September
@Fatewalker Thanks. I am unfamiliar with Little Nightmares. Probably b/c it has nightmares in the title and that isn't my thing, but I'll look into them if couch co-op is involved.

I'm pretty sure it's Capitalism that makes game devs wage slaves, not Game Pass.ðĪ
Not Sony though, no wage slaves there, just a whole lot of people Sony paid to make multi-player games, then cancelled the games, then fired the employees.

Re: Another Live Service Game Is Killing Off PS4 Support
I don't really like when games that run on a system all of a sudden stop running on a system, but it will be 5 years in November since the PS5 launched, historically that's an entire console generation, so it's not like they pulled it soon after release.
So it probably does suck for some people but it's also understandable.
Re: Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again? CEO Plays It Safe with His Answer
Re: Mini Review: Hello Kitty Island Adventure (PS5) - Purrfectly Cosy, Slightly Clawed

Re: Sony Likens Its Fledgling Anime Business to the PS1 Era
@Haruki_NLI @8thDoctor That was sort of my reaction as well. Sony may be on their PS1-PS2 era in anime but worldwide it feels a bit past that to me. I know Manga had a huge growth spurt during COVID - print is not dead - and gas slowed down while still growing, I'm assuming anime has a similar trajectory. Still growing, but the Crunchy roll explosion is probably more linear than exponential now. Though Sony owns it so I guess they know better. Still feels later than earlier though but I suppose Sony has money to make yet.
Re: Sony Admits PS5 Live Service Push Is Not Going Smoothly

Re: PS5 Console Sales Surpass 80 Million Milestone, Closing in on PS3

Re: Sony Admits PS5 Live Service Push Is Not Going Smoothly
@TrollOfWar " over a certain long period of time"
New $70 sports games come out every year though, does less than a year of support qualify as a long period of time?
Fluid.
Re: Sony Admits PS5 Live Service Push Is Not Going Smoothly
@themightyant " once established "
Re: Sony Admits PS5 Live Service Push Is Not Going Smoothly
Re: PS5 Console Sales Surpass 80 Million Milestone, Closing in on PS3
Re: Sony Admits PS5 Live Service Push Is Not Going Smoothly
Disney Speedstorm is insane. ðĪ
Thanks, gave me something to think about.ð
