Re: First PS Plus Essential Game for November 2025 Leaked

rjejr

When people lament about lack of new PS5 games 5 years after launch I think we should hold up PS+ as a measuring stick of that. Compare PS+ on PS3, PS4 and PS5 and after 5 years on the market how many PS+ games on PS3 were PS3 exclusives, then exclusives on PS4, then exclusives on PS5?

I don't have the numbers in front of me but my faulty recall has me believing we got a lot of PS3 games on PS3 and PS4 games on PS4 but also PS4 games on PS5 b/c as people like to lament, there are no new games on PS5.

Now, I know there are new games on PS5, I've played them, but I bet not as many on PS+. Which was maybe fine in years 1, 2 and 3 but at this point I'm pretty sure PS+ was getting some PS4 games on PS4.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I certainly don't miss subscribing to PS+ since I've owned a PS5.

Edit: Oh, in case anyone is wondering why the off topic rant, Stray is a PS4 game, next month is a 5 full years since PS5 launched, November 2020. That's how PS+ is celebrating the 5 year anniversary of PS5 launching, w/ PS4 game Stray.

Re: Cancelled God of War PS5 Game Leaks in Screenshots

An entire article and 8 comments about GoW and no mention of Ascension?

They already had a multi-player GoW component and it wasn't really well liked so I don't know why they would try again, or why the article wouldn't mention it?

Re: 'It Saved the Game': Sword of the Sea Dev Praises Sony, Explains PS Plus Deal

rjejr

@Flaming_Kaiser The only thing the US is a prime example of right now is 1930's Germany, which isn't a good thing. ðŸ˜Đ

Phones were supposed to be the death of consoles pre-Switch and PS4, Napster or the death of music sales (I'm old), but nobody told Taylor Swift, digital was the death of albums, again no one told TS, free-to-play should be the death of $70-to-start but people keep playing CoD and FIFA.

Something is always killing something else. Almost everything has both its good and bad side. Except Ouya that was all bad.ðŸĪ‘ I'd just prefer a little fairness and balance, not, if we do it it's great but if the other side does the same thing it sucks. 😝

Subscription services are fine for little indie games on Netflix and Apple Arcade, or years old games. I agree w/ Sony on most of that. But now that Gamepass has 3 tiers, similar to PS+, and new games are only available on the highest paid tier, I think things are more even than not, and journalism should acknowledge that, not just promote console wars amongst the fans. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: 'Players Are More Accustomed to Darker Stories': Dragon Quest 7 Dev Says the PS5 Remake Will Hit Harder

rjejr

@DreadfulDragon I liked DQ11, a lot, very bright and colorful. Don't recall it being dark or mature but I haven't played it since the 1st time it released. And I'm pretty jaded so it would probably take a lot for me to think of a video game as dark and mature. I played FF7 in 1998 and half the story is based around the murder of a sweet and innocent main character and the good guys basically lose in the end. And they're terrorists to begin with. Can't get much more dark and mature than FF7. Glad the remake trilogy doesn't look like this. Can you imagine the response?ðŸĪĢ

Re: Round Up: Once Upon a Katamari PS5 Reviews Roll Up Some Big Scores

rjejr

I think I've played all of the Katamari games, and "Wonderful End of the World" on PC which I liked better, but pretty sure I've never spent more than $10 on any of them b/c that's all they are to me, little fun indie games. I'd probably pay $20 these days b/c inflation but that's about it. So whenever it gets there. Or maybe just a rental, really no reason to own this.

rjejr

@DreadfulDragon May be true, doesn't mean it's not jarring. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Isn't Toriyama mostly famous for 2D animation, stuff like the old DQ, DragonBall and Sand Land, not this 3D computer graphics Pixar looking stuff? This is so far removed from what I'm guessing most people think of with him they probably could have gone a little further darker, like the newer FF games, also from Squenix, if they really wanted dark and mature. If they really wanted Toriyama they could have stuck w/ more of a Sand Land look, still 3D, but kind of cell shared looking. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: PS5 Black Friday Bundle Will Knock $100 Off the Price

rjejr

After 4 of 5 years on the market you'd think Sony could bundle something a little more Sony with the PS5 like the Spiderman trilogy. For the price of the console they should be able to include those 2 1/2 old games.

I play a lot of Fortnite, probably too much like it's an addiction, but I still don't like bubdling an expensive console w/ a FTP game. Makes no sense as in its not much of a savings for the consumer. Not for a BF sale anyway.ðŸĪ‘

Re: PS5 Has Been 'Special' Thanks to SSD, DualSense Features Rather Than Visuals

rjejr

I'm all for gimmicks over graphics, I just replayed Mario Galaxy (Wii version on my Wii U) and I forgot how much use Nintendo got out of the motion and the pointing with that game, AND it still looks great on myn75" 4k TV. But the Wii was only $250 new, the PS5 is closer to $500. For that much more money I need the graphics as well as the gimmicks. If they just want to make gimmick Astrobot games sell me a $300 system.

Re: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora's Third-Person Update Practically Makes It a New PS5 Game

rjejr

@get2sammyb If you'd like to edit your article with some useful content (unless you're saving it for another article 😉) the new dlc From the Ashes - releases Dec 5th, same day as the new movie, for $24.99, or you can buy the complete game and dlc for $39.99 on that date as well. I can't tell if this includes the original 2 dlc though. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: Ninja Gaiden 4 (PS5) - A Bloodthirsty Action Game Ripped Straight from the PS3 Era

rjejr

@cainhurst94 That's certainly a part of it. Can't be easy making PS5 games look like the ugliest of PS3 games, Vaseline on gray, but it's more than that. I've posted dozens of Elden Ring pics on Twitter, I wouldn't have taken these, much less post them anywhere. There's nothing of interest to see. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Oh well. Maybe I'll play it some weekend to see for myself if I can come across it cheap, no need to own it.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Be 'A Bit More Concise' Following Feedback on Rebirth's Filler

rjejr

I liked the Gilgamesh storyline and the character, but hated their tower defense game to do it, it was the absolute worst. It was horrible in the original game in 1997 as well but it's the 2020s, let's make it good now.

Queens Blood was great. Don't think it needs an entire new storyline though, just keep in the game matches, that plot has concluded.

Sneaking around the bushes to get the chocobo was so lame and time consuming. Can we just feed them some gyshal greens and be done with it please?

That vacuuming minigame was always garbage, shouldn't have been in there to begin with.

So yeah, they don't need nearly as much side content as 2 had, and some stuff should go. But it's a JRPG, people expect some side stuff, would be weird without it.

Personally I want the game soon and functioning, so probably the less the better. But don't take it all out, just make it very optional.

Re: PS Store Quietly Adds Crucial New Feature for PS5, PS4 Deals

rjejr

I thought the new faeture was the date the sale ended. I really like that, gives me time to think about it. Lowest price last 30 days seems like a law ready-made for a work around, just don't put things on sale within 30 days, wait for day 31 to put it on sale again. Typical government pretending to be doing stuff that's doing nothing at all.

There are 365 days in a year, and computers track everything these days. Listing the lowest price over the past 365 days might actually be useful. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

@Northern_munkey Thanks. Congrats to you as well. You missed out on the big "We HAVE to get married in 2020" craze by just 9 months. 😉 We didn't do it on purpose. My wife was 29 and 11 months old when we got married, she didn't want to still be single at 30. 😂. Does make it easy to remember our anniversary though, 10/15/20. It's like that School House Rock song. And whatever year it is, that's what anniversary it is. 😁

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth Get a Physical PS5 Double Pack on 3 Discs

rjejr

@EVIL-C And if anyone on the internet had bothered to check, the Galaxy games were $20 USD each back in 2011 & 2016 respectively when Nintendo released them in their own "Nintendo Selects" line so that was a total of $40 for the 2 games new from Nintendo. ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: Genshin Impact Wants to Be the Only Game You Ever Play on PS5

rjejr

Infinity Nikki, which I play every day, added a new multi-player area a few updates back and a new home area recently, any I barely touch either, they just aren't for me.

I haven't played Genshin Impact for more than an hour, the sidekicks voice was a tad too much cringe, but if I ever did this sounds interesting.

Though I also lay Fortnite and rarely do any of the creator levels, just battle Royale, so maybe not.

Re: Fortnite's Long Anticipated The Simpsons Mini-Season Could Be One of Its Best

rjejr

@darkswabber I don't keep track of those large scale Fortnite numbers but I have been playing regularly for a few years now, almost exclusively battle Royale, and that player count over almost all of that time has been around 250k, but recently it has been only around 90k. It was up to 190k yesterday, probably for Fortnitemares, but I don't see it coming back.

To be fair some of that is probably split up within Fortnite between Lego, Ranked, no build, reload, etc, but those have been around for awhile now, the drop from 250k to 90k is recent.

So yeah Simpsons probably isn't bringing anyone back. The game may be closer to the end than the beginning. But what isn't these days? ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: This Year's Fortnitemares Has an All-Star Lineup on PS5, PS4

rjejr

I've been playing Fortnite regularly for years and I thought Fortnimares was the horde mode. I guess K-pop Demon Hunters has that covered this year. Gotta remember to stay out of haunted houses.

Curious if this will bring players back. For the past few years battle Royale has has a daily player count of around 200k during the week, higher on weekends, but it's been hovering around 90know. I've gone from winning 1 out of every 6 or 7 matches to winning 1 out of 3. I suppose everyone is splintered playing ranked, reload, Lego etc but I suppose at 90k just in BR mode they're still making money.

Re: People Don't Buy Anywhere Near As Many Games As You Think

rjejr

My reply from NL, modified slightly for context.

I feel like the survey is meant to convey full price, or close to it, and within say 30 days of release. Any game you buy digital is going to be "new" even if it's 5 years old on sale for $1US (or local equivalent). Does it include gifts? I buy games as gifts for my kids and nephew. Does it include $4.98 games at Target on the clearance end cap?

Survey should probably be at least 3 questions:

How many AAA games do you buy near release?
How many indie games do you buy at release?
How many games do you buy a year in total?

"New" isn't really helping.

I rarely buy anything AAA day 1 full price unless it's something 1st party from Nintendo b/c they don't do sales, and they seem to have dropped their "Selects" line, so why wait. There hasn't really been much I want to play though I thought was worth the cost. Wolverine may be say 1.

I play a lot of free to play, borrow stuff from my library, hit up some sales after games go "platinum" b/c gold is basically jyst a beta these days.

Re: Xbox Squandered Over $300 Million Putting Call of Duty in Game Pass

rjejr

I'm still baffled that MS doesn't offer an annual plan for GPU. Most services that look expensive month to month tend to offer some savings buying in bulk. $30 GPU sold for $240 a year would get people back to $20 a month and MS would be paid up front.

I have to think people are going to more readily quit now and maybe sign up for a month or 2 when some really big game comes out they want to play. But then some of those people will be like "Wait, I can play it only for a month for $30 or own it for all time for $70, maybe I should just buy it".

Who knows, maybe that's MS real intention, make GPU so expensive that people start BUYING games again. MS still gets paid for the cheaper $10 a month so people can play online. Kinda makes sense.ðŸĪ‘

Re: PS Plus Looks Better Than Ever After New Xbox Game Pass Price Rises

rjejr

MS basically parroting the PS+ naming is kind of hysterical, I don't think we're talking about that enough.ðŸĪĢ

The monthly PS+ and XBGP prices do kind of line up but I feel like most people buy PS+ for a year, preferably during a sale. The monthly prices basically only exist to nudge us to the yearly sub b/c "savings". If MS is really putting these prices out there w/ no yearly sub option what are they even doing? Fire everyone who thinks monthly option only is the way to go. All that does is get people to sign up for a month when they want a game then cancel. You need to lock them in with yearly subs, even if it means a stiff discount. That's just common sense.

I don't subscribe to any online services despite playing a lot of games online, including Fortnite, but it's all free, so this doesn't affect me any. My kid did just play a bunch of games on PC Gamepass w/ a 3month pass I bought for them for like $15 a year ago, but they'll just stick with Steam now.

The only people who win from this are Netflix, gaming is getting too expensive.ðŸĪ‘

Re: Rumour: Mass Effect, Dragon Age Studio BioWare Braced for Layoffs After EA's Buyout Agreement

rjejr

@ShogunRok The deal isn't expected to close until early 2027, so nearly 1 1/2 years away, so people should have plenty of time to job hunt. The deal will almost certainly go through as MS's purchase did but this isn't Sony shutting down a studio today. People just need to use their time wisely.

Re: Publisher EA Poised to Go Private as 'Advanced Talks' of $50 Billion Buyout Emerge

rjejr

@Runex2121 I like your PE comparison, I don't think we talk enough about TRU and KB Toys, but those deals were made by rich guys just looking to get richer. PIF already has so much money they're basically looking to launder it at this point. So while I'm sure they'll fire people RI don't think they're buying EA to run it into the ground, they're buying it to have something to do with all their money. Not that I would mind them killing EA, but I think they need a healthy investment more than they need to strip it clean like the mob.

Kinda surprised the comments are still open. Let's see for how much longer as the USA wakes up late on a Saturday.ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Re: PlayStation's New 'Rewards' Program Goes Down Like a Lead Balloon

rjejr

It's like they looked at Amazon's Prime marketing - Get Free Shipping for $139 a Year - and thought, what can we make that's worse than that?

I'm kinda used to this already from when Nintendo said "Let's make a Club Nintendo replacement but so much worse." but this is even much worse than that. Like a lot worse.

On the bright side I can just ignore it now.

Great review @LiamCroft 👍 I usually just skim over these things and read the box at the bottom but I read every word of this, nicely done.🖖 If you ever answer @PuppetMaster about the difficulty settings can you tag me in please, I'm at the "easy" or "story mode" point in my gaming life. Pretty sure I played GoT on easy, was just about right for me doing those boss duels.
