Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will not have any kind of PlayStation exclusivity tied to it whenever it comes out, a new report claims.

Square Enix is in the process of bringing Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, following a company decision to make all its games multi-platform. This is after the two RPGs debuted as PS5 and PS4 exclusives, a practise it is now moving away from.

With this new focus, it's claimed the final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga will not launch with any exclusivity at all — Square Enix will apparently "target everything", according to reliable leaker NateTheHate.

As part of a podcast predicting Thursday's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, the insider claims Square Enix has plans to debut the third instalment at Summer Game Fest in June. He then continues: "There's going to be no timed-exclusive to PlayStation. It's going to release day-and-date on everything."

Back in 2024, the Japanese publisher said it would be "aggressively" pursuing a multi-platform strategy from that point on, as it strives "to maximise the acquisition of new users when launching a title and that of recurring users after starting management of game operation".

In years past, Square Enix has allowed its games to become tied up in timed-exclusivity deals, with another example being Final Fantasy 16. Now, with this new approach to game releases, it's putting everything everywhere as much as possible.

Should the prediction of a Summer Game Fest reveal come to fruition, then that should also be the venue where we learn the game's official name. Square Enix has one internally, but has yet to publicly share it.
