@Llamageddon We’ve been car shopping since February and I can’t believe how expensive used cars are, it’s nuts, they’re basically the same price as new cars minus a few grand, which at these prices isn’t much. I started out planning on spending $10k - $15k, then it quickly went to $15 - $16k, then $18k, then finally I caved and I was ok we can get a new car for $22k so let’s do that. Only the $22k car was $24-$2k “cash back”, but only if you financed at 7.9% and I wanted to pay cash. But cash is $24k, so back to used, for $21k now. Then my kid is like if we’re gonna spend $21k on a used car how about an extra grand for hybrid, which he has wanted since February but I didn’t want to spend the money. But I finally caved, telling myself well if we’re going to spend all this money anyway at least it’s for a hybrid.

FWIW I think the whole “hybrid” thing is a bit of a scam, it’s just a gas (petrol depending on where you are) engine with a battery that runs half the time to double your gas mileage. I suppose scam is a bit harsh, it’s just a couple of extra grand for the battery after all, and it means 500+ miles on 1 tank of fuel. But it’s not full electric. That’s a different story.

So yeah. It’s technically not my kids car, it’s my wife’s, insurance is mine, but he drives it to work 5 days a week. We’ll see what happens when he moves out.

Somewhat related - are Helix X, S and handheld real? I just saw them and their flops on Instagram so I came here to see if it’s real. I just got back from spending literally all afternoon buying my kid a used car, USED, for $23,500 so a new $1,000 PS6 ain’t looking so crazy anymore. 🤑

At some point, if not currently, someone high up at MS, not Xbox, is going to do the math on developing, manufacturing and delivering console hardware vs just going 3rd party Sega, except on most PCs in the world running windows, and decide the console isn’t worth the effort.

Probably in my lifetime, which means soon b/c I’m old.

So yeah, this is just getting their hardcore guys worked up, b/c MS would sell the entire Xbox division- which would be easier without the hardware- before they’d make Minecraft an Xbox exclusive. Not nearly enough people are spending $1,000 on Helix for Minecraft.

As a huge Wolverine fan since his comic book origin I was really looking forward to this game, but I was never going to pay $70 for a 20 hour linear game. Or pay $70 for really any game. Or buy any game Day 1 b/c of all the patches and updates these days. I’m not paying $70 to do your quality assurance testing.

So I’m still looking forward to it. Black November is coming (let’s face it it’s not just Friday anymore). And it will go on PS+ Extra eventually.

I did preorder OoT for $60, the digital price for the physical foil cover copy. I think that’s longer though, 25 hours maybe. And supposedly 1 of the best reviewed games of all time, like 98/100 good. So I’m not opposed to spending money and buying day 1, but my brain needs to ok it all. OoT better not have a lot of patches and updates after 30 years. 😂

Do they make a Backbone for the iPad? I’m not an Apple guy but I spend all my time on my iPad b/c well there isn’t a lot of decent tablet competition these days. I have the basic iPad model but I’m guessing PS5 games could look really good on the higher end models.

It’s going to be kinda funny if 2028 rolls around and Sony stops putting out game discs on PS5 but MS keeps making them for games on PS5. I’m sure MS must have their own disc manufacturers they can turn to to keep making them even if Sony stops.

I had over 1,000 in Fortnite. I just deleted it recently after finally not playing it for a bit b/c I didn’t want to get sucked back in. Besides Nikki and NTE I’m also playing Disney Speedstorm for like 30 minutes a day, but that’s more like having a cup of coffee or brushing my teeth than playing a game. After 4 or 5 races my hands start hurting and that’s that. But it’s a fun little burst of adrenaline with no commitments.

On the bright side I’m not rich and they don’t cost me any money. Real games cost money. I’m splurging $60 on Zelda OoT. I’ve never played it so it’s new to me.

@themightyant Thanks, that’s what I thought. I played it for about an hour soon after it went free to play on PS4 but my wife couldn’t stand the voice of the sidekick, the first hour was basically tutorial, so I never went back to it. I’m playing Infinity Nikki and NTE now but I suspect I’ll drop NTE for ANANTA when it releases. I really like the characters, world and story in NTE but the story segments only last like 2 hours a month. I’m not into all the busy work. Nikki tends to give me like 6 to 12 hours in a good month, with a couple of down months being only an hour or 2 but fortunately it’s been a long while since that has happened. I’ve read ANANTA has 100 hours to start. We’ll see.

I suppose it is GI world and every other game is just playing in it though.

On the bright side, this is GameStop, so if you buy a used Pro for $1,500 there you may actually be getting 1 of their new ones that they just opened the box to sell used for the markup. 🤑

@get2sammyb Pretty sure I saw these in the Amazon holiday magazine I got in the mail yesterday. Yes Amazon sent me a physical magazine via snail mail, it was weird. PS5 was near the beginning. I’m about halfway through and no sign of Switch or Xbox yet, it’s mostly been Lego sets so far.

I’m impressed, that’s a lot of sports marketing for a non-sport video game. And nice timing as well with the basketball game being the night before the video game releases. Will give people something to do while they wait for the 150GB download. I’m assuming there will be pre-download time.

Edit: No early access, I’m impressed. Guess R* doesn’t need the money that bad to sell it. And the pre-download starts on the 12th, so that’s an entire week to get it done, which is nice.

Too much 2D side scrolling for me. It reminded me of FFX-2 which I’d prefer nothing reminds me of that game ever again. The girls losing their clothes near the end of the vid reminded me of some other rpg where girls lost their clothes, but there are so many of them I forget which one. 😂

So they said we won’t see any of it in 2026, did they state it would RELEASE in 2027? B/c if it’s not in 2027 Sony says it’s not on disc. Which wouldn’t be a great look for a game we would have been waiting on for years.

Intergalactic is a new IP, they can’t afford to screw it up. And it’s first party, and it’s Naughty Dog, they’re not going to want to release it in some beta early release form. So while I’m sure the plan has always been 2027, I think to get it running great on PS5, while also making it a showcase for $900 Pro with all the bells & whistles, I think it will be delayed. And they won’t want to have it be digital only.

Another possibility - Sony realizes the PS6 is looking to cost $1,200 and they want a big new game at launch, so they tell ND to delay the release date to match. See Nintendo and BotW. (I literally just thought of that now, so it may not hold up to any scrutiny.)

I still think Sony makes some discs after 1/1/28, is there really any reason to think Intergalactic will release before then? I feel like if they felt confident about next year in would have been in the last SoP. Not saying it’s vaporware or cancelled, Feb or March 2028 is my guess. And on disc. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Balaam_ I bought TW3 Complete soon after it was announced and released for $15, so like 6 or 8 years ago, and in my head it’s been that price ever since. So a little more than your $9.99 but closer than $25.

It’s also the reason I can’t buy games for MSRP anymore after spending only $15 for a fairly new game with about 150 hours of game play. The waiting game is my new game. 😎

@Max_the_German The PS4 version of TW3 got a free upgrade to the PS5 version about 4 years ago, so if you bought or have the PS4 version I would think you could still get that free upgrade before this free upgrade.

Not saying the name can’t live on, decades ago my wife worked for a company that had about 600 employees and today they have like 15, but it isn’t really the same company at that point. Anybody can buy a name and maybe some IP. Atari, Circuit City, Toys R Us and the like. Name only. (Those may not all be great examples but you get the idea.)
