Update []:
Team Cherry has confirmed current-gen ports of Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition following the PS5 Trophy list's appearance yesterday. The PS5 version is available now.
The developer says the new versions of the beloved Metroidvania include "higher frame-rates, higher resolution and additional effects".
Better yet, if you already purchased the PS4 version of the game, you can upgrade to the PS5 port for free. Those who claimed it via PS Plus won't be eligible for the upgrade path, however.

It seems the older version has been updated to some extent as well, as Team Cherry says there are "additional updates and refinements across all platforms".

Original Story: It looks like Hollow Knight will soon receive a native port to PS5.
Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition, to give it its full title, first arrived on PS4 back in 2018, and now, a Trophy list has popped up online for a PS5 version, practically confirming a current-gen edition is coming soon.
This follows news that the original game is getting a Switch 2 Edition, which is out today.
The PS5 Trophy list is identical to that of the PS4 version, save for slightly updated artwork on some individual Trophies.
Hollow Knight's PS5 version isn't yet live on the PS Store, but it now seems inevitable, and is likely to launch in the very near future.

Everyone should play Hollow Knight, it’s so good!
Already own the game on PS4, so whatever they're updating, I'm in
New trophies give me a reason to play and platinum the game again
Zero interest in a native PS5 version and don't even see a need for it.
My kid just finished Hollow Knight like last week. That's some bad timing right there. Too difficult for me regardless. A man's got to know his limitations.
Played Hollow Knight for the first time last year during the great Silksanity of late-2025 and while I didn't adore it like so many others, its still a terrific game that I'd highly recommend to anyone and everyone (even if I still prefer the Castlevania style of powertrip Metroidvanias myself XD).
also random question but if I have trophies on the original PS4 version of HK and then upgrade to the native PS5 version, do I lose access to that initial trophy list and thus lock myself out of a Platinum trophy?
I do not know why this is even necessary. Ps4 version plays fine on ps5. Can't imagine what will be improved besides maybe adding enhanced haptics...slightly faster loading. It's been a long time since I played HK but I don't recall loading times being an issue.
Kinda funny how we had almost complete radio silence from Team Cherry for years while they were developing Silksong. Now that the game is finished we're getting updates and native ports for the first game along with the DLC.
But hey, I'm not complaining, they updated HK on PC to have native ultrawide so I'm happy about that.
@mvhess true no huge improvements expected but why not?
It was a base ps4 version, no ps4 pro enhancements, so I would expect native 4K with 60 or even more frames. It’s not bad at all.
I see no point to complain about a free update for an older game.
I quit it at 10 hours and never regretted it. I plan to go back Silksong at some point though, I was just in the map with "birds".
Couldnt get into it, kept getting lost
The artwork tile was updated today on my PS5 so something is afoot. Hoping to start this soon, probably going to be rubbish at it, at least give it a go 👍
I am playing this game for the first time right now and enjoying it quite a bit. That said, so far, I think I enjoyed Nine Sols more.
@Reeneman Oh I wasn't complaining. I also missed the part where it was free
No wonder the game didnt go on sale for a whole year.
I also can't really see how a PS5 version will improve the game, though if there's a free or cheap upgrade I'll probably play it again. And probably stop when I get to that same too-hard boss, again.
Give us that delicious 120fps like in Silksong!
Hell yeah. Playing at 4K and 120 FPS (or close to it) is pretty nice, especially in that it's a free upgrade.
Everyone needs to check out Mio: Memories in Orbit! If you enjoyed HK, you’ll love this! Just launched and sadly not being marketed very well.
@Max_the_German everyone is, and no it's not
Important to note: This version is not free if you claimed the game via PS Plus...
@NitrousX I've added this to the article, worth mentioning, thank you
