@Haruki_NLI I really feel like tech has to be close to the point where we don't need home consoles anymore, we can just play on our phones on our TV. Then every company can just be 3rd party.
I know it's not up to snuff for a lot of people who need 8k photorealism 180fps graphics but I was able to play a few Apple Arcade games on my TV w/ my PS5 controller no problem. No Apple hub or some such, just a built in Roku OS. So the technology is already technically here. I suppose there's a lag reason Switch 2 needs a dock instead of wireless, but wouldn't USB to HDMI work, like my kid does w/ their laptop to play Gamepass games w/ their PS5 controller? (What can I say we like the bad battery PS5 controllers and my kid's HDMI never worked so USB-C to HDMI π€·ββοΈ)
So why do we need consoles? Who doesn't have a phone, tablet, laptop or PC? And cloud streaming to tvs will probably be a thing at some point. Consoles are a dead end tech.
Phil should not have the ability to retire, he should be fired. MS can afford the $25 million golden parachute or whatever stupid amount they'll pay him to make him go away.

I have nothing to say about Neil but I can imagine this might be the end for season 3. I didn't like it in the game and I never thought it would work for a TV show that only has 6-8 episodes once every year or 2.
Despite what people say on here about the actors the show was about Joel and Ellie. Season 3 may as well be titled like a spin-off show - TLOU:Abbey's Story. Like 1 of the many Walking Dead shows. And I think that's going to be a problem for TV ratings.
Will HBO, who mess up a lot, spend 2 years and the necessary megabucks for a spinoff?
Maybe ask the people who made Batgirl? π€·ββοΈ
@ZeroSum "that's seen profits fall below expectations"
Except the numbers were well ahead of expectations, not below. Have you seen their stock price, up 30% the past 3 months. MS didn't need to fire 9,000 people right now.
@Lowdefal The revenue wasn't $23Billion, that was the net profit. The revenue was $70 billion. For 3 months. So over $7B per month net profit. And they just fired 9,000 people.
"Microsoft reported nearly $26 billion in net income on $70 billion in revenue for the March quarter. The numbers were well ahead of Wall Streetβs consensus, keeping Microsoft ranked as one of the most profitable companies in the S&P 500 index, according to data compiled by FactSet."
@darrenhupke Just looked up their stocked after reading your comment. Yup, up about 33% in just the past 2 1/2 months, 380 to 500. And today announcing 9,000 layoffs will likely put it up even higher. π€
Just saw the news on Bloomberg TV (I watch it b/c it's free) and came here to get all the details.
The fact that Phil can write all of that and not have it end with him committing seppuku tells you all you need to know, not just about him, and Microsoft, but the world at large. We're all disposable and the big wigs just keep getting paid.π€
That makes more sense than all the people saying "it's hot outside" but no problem for several hours of playing only for minutes on the map. Has to be the coding. If game = world map then fan speed = high.
@Nalim Seems like the people posting from your neck of the woods (never realized how stupid that saying is until just now) have a better handle on things than the rest. Which makes sense. π
@Haruki_NLI @Ricowtje I didn't even need to read the article, just the headline, and I know nothing about the case, but I immediately assumed it had something to do with the lack of Sony selling game codes in local stores. I think that has come up in the US. In Target there are plenty of games cards w/ codes for Switch games but not PS.
The problem isn't Sony going all digital, it's Sony going all digital and then not letting stores sell game codes. That's a forced monopoly that doesn't need to exist. Even if they don't want to do physical cards at retail they could easily do electronic email codes on Amazon or the Dutch equivalent of a games store.
It's not physical vs digital, it's monopoly vs open market. The future is all digital, so this does need to be addressed now.
Didn't get that from the article though. Thought I might have been wrong but your comments make me think I'm at least on the right track. π€·ββοΈ

And now with AI hanging over everyone's head, well I don't know how they sleep at night. Legal weed and melatonin I guess.π΄
My kid graduated with a BS in GD&D 2 years ago, a career has not been forthcoming. Jobs yes, career no.
Agree with Sony here. Have you seen how much they've raised the prices of the 3 different PS+ services over the past couple of years. Now imagine a day 1 service. @LogicStrikesAgain already did the math. π€

@get2sammyb Honestly I'm impressed with the number of free-to-play games you play that any amount of money to buy a game doesn't trouble you. I can only handle a couple of them at a time which makes spending any money I'm unsure of hard to do. I'll buy Donkey Kong Bananza but that's about it. And I'm currently not even in a subscription service.
I'm sure $20 is worth it but I just bought Farmagia for $20, came w/ an art book and a music CD. Game was basically free. I'll mention it to my kids, they game online all the time.
@Bez87 Thanks. I guess my complete disinterest in soccer is also affecting my view of the game.π€·ββοΈ
I've been watching my kid play if for about 60 hours, currently doing all of the sort of extra stuff in chapter 3, and it's so good that I'm looking forward to playing it myself some day. Will wait about a year until they say they're done and have moved on to the next game. Definitely glad I waited this long for them to nerf story mode with longer parry windows. Still hoping for a compass or minimap and optional highlight effect on handholds for climbing.
Also curious how it looks on PS5 compared to Gamepass on my kids laptop. Surely it has to look better. Pretty sure the laptop is only outputting 1080p but it still looks incredible.
@Bez87 Someone should pay you for writing that. The dev, PS, Sammy. Well said. I don't know how they are getting people to pay $19.99 though. Word of mouth from Gamepass maybe? π€·ββοΈ
@BLKxHER0 OK now I'm curious. Is it anything like that 2 player PC game where each person makes a goalkeeper just up and down hitting a ball off of their head using only 1 button? π
@DennisReynolds Maybe the dev who made Sifu asked an AI to make this for them? jk π
@AldusRavencorn Screenshots aren't everything. Probably not being helped by being compared to Rocket League and EA FC in the article, b/c I don't think this is those, no matter who's taking the pics.
Thanks everyone. Maybe some day. I had already forgotten what the name of the game was though as I was writing all of these replies so maybe not. I am going to get tested for Alzheimers tomorrow, that should be interesting. I'm only going b/c it's free.
I could see him downplayed it. And I could see him doing it in about 4 hours, he doesn't have that much dialog. And I think he was doing his own accent but he sounded like he was playing Matt Murdoch. There's one scene that I thought he was going to say "Karen" b/c it sounded like one of those speeches.
He was great in DD and in this. He probably puts so much physical preparation into all of those stunts that he has to do in DD, playing a blind man who's faking not being able to sense what's going on, all the costume fittings and exchanges with others, those 4 hours probably felt like the equivalent of doing an audition for him, not actual work.
I feel like these numbers would probably match up fairly well with overall mobile game revenue. Not the amounts but the direction and date of growth. Despite the title saying "PS5" the article is basically just the growth in digital gaming over the past 15 years or so. The prices of the hardware and the games themselves are basically irrelevant.
Just look at 1 component, PS+
PS - 0 PS2 - 0 PS3 - $49 optional PS4 - $59 required for online and cloud saves PS5 - I can't even recall they've increased so much, $79, $99, $119 !?!? π€
Console price is probably only a factor in that Sony used to sell them for a loss but now they probably don't. They sell $700 Pros, $200 Portals, PSVR2 and $150 controllers. Those prices may add up.π€·ββοΈ
I haven't played any of these yet.π My kid reminded me I have an unopened game in the house I recently purchased but I didn't see it on the list so probably last year. I can't recall the name.π«
I voted for Clair Obscur b/c I watched my kid play it for 50hours and it's really good. I also voted for Split Fiction b/c I am really looking forward to playing it w/ my wife. Not too interested in anything else.
So does this work like horde mode that they only seem to ever do for Halloween or is it more team based vs other players? I don't like playing on teams where we have to team up and people expect communication but if it's like horde mode and I can just jump in and shoot things it might actually be fun in short bursts.
I dud read the article but have never played Helldivers so it was mostly lost on me.π€·ββοΈ
Not sure he said anything about never. Maybe since the Wii and PS3 but the PS and PS2 certainly had to be viewed as rivals to the SNES, N64 and even really the PS3 vs GameCube early days when the GC was considered on par with the others.
Since Nintendo bailed on home consoles 8 years ago and just do handhelds w/ TV out now, or not even w/ the Lite, I agree w/ him. Though we'll see how it goes now that Switch 2 is a little more power competitive.
Sony is hopefully smart enough to not be seeing Nintendo as a rival to the extent they're trying to get Nintendo 1st party games on PS like they do w/ MS games. That's where the real rivalry is, 1xt party ports and 3rd party exclusives. Sony and Nintendo don't fight like that too much I'm guessing.
When they say cut scenes are expensive do they mean all the cut scenes or just the pre rendered ones b/c these dats the geaphics engines really are good enough to do cut scenes in we don't need a ton of pre rendered stuff, beginning end and matbe 1 in the middle if it's an important plot point.
Sort was OK, telling it could have been done better, elevators at the end didn't pay off well enough, but it was fine.
@kcarnes9051 Not saying you're wrong, but why build handholds at all then, why not make it so you can only grab on certain rocks? But putting handholds in the game they might as well let us see them. I don't need bug bright strobe lights or anything, but there were 2 or 3 spots we didn't see them even though we were standing right in front of them. And we wasted time running around just to finally notice them later after we were standing right in front of them. Game is long enough at over 50 hours, it doesn't need to be wasting my real life time with things that could just be a little more obvious.π€·ββοΈ
Anyway if they are talking about making improvements I hope that's 1 of tye options. I would certainly turn it on. We spend enough time chasing Penaks around trying to get them into their spots. That's at least a little fun, and very optional.
Option to make the handholds red or purple, any color besides the same brown they use on the rocks they're on. Map in the dungeons or at least a compass.
Game is that good, I really can't think of anything else.
@Toot1st So my kid checked their play time on Clair Obscur and it was 48 hours, so not 30 or 60. What we can't decide though is if that includes all of the time spent dying, b/c that would be several extra hours if it doesn't. And they aren't finished yet, spent the whole night climbing up some snowy mountain to get some ice. I'm never playing this game if the dungeons don't get minimap or a compass.π
Hulst continued: βWeβve introduced much more rigorous processes for validating our creative, commercial, [and] development assumptions. And we now do that on a much more ongoing basis. And thatβs the plan that that will ensure that weβre investing in the right opportunities at the right time, all while maintaining much more predictable timelines."
It's like he opened his mouth and literally said "Blah blah blah blah blah." π€£
@Americansamurai1 Exactly. Their measured approach seems to be put out 1 game a year and a year later put it on PC. Seems more lazy than measured to me. π€·ββοΈ
I'm not that impressed by this. Like Sony keeps increasing the total sales of PS2 25 years later to try and keep it away from Switch it seems like Nintendo said, well we could launch the Switch 2 in March like we did the Switch, or, we could stockpile inventory until we have enough to break every gaming console launch record.
I mean they basically said as much.
"According to an earlier Nikkei report, Nintendo had planned to launch Switch 2 in late 2024, but βpriority was given to ensure the initial inventory of the successor console and a line-up of software titles at the time of its launchβ in an attempt to avoid widespread reselling."
Nice that it's selling well, but launch is launch. Wii was nearly impossible to get in the USA for 2 years. PS5 for a year in part due to COVID. I'm curious to see when Switch 2 finally aren't sold out. Then I'll applaud.
@Toot1st So, I asked my kid last night how long they'd been playing Clair Obscur and they said, and my wife agreed, about 60 hours, so I was way off w/ my guess if 30.π
Guess they'll be close to your 70 when they're done, depending on what awaits us in Lumeire. Think we're heading their tonight, spent the last 2 nights playing XCX, which we do when the other kid is around.
Maybe I'll remember to let you know the rally when they finish. But probably not.π
@Toot1st 30 is just a guess based on my kid playing it about 10 nights 3 hours a night. May have been 8 nights of 12. The 3 hours is pretty consistent, 8-11, but occasionally starting closer to 7 or ending closer to 12. They're playing on their laptop on Gamepass so I'm not even sure I can check. I'll ask them when they're done, should just be a few more nights now from what I've been reading.
Thanks. When my kid starts the fight I'll ask my kid to wake me up when it's over. π΄
They uncloud/fog the world map as you unlock it in the story, I'd be more than happy if they did that w/ the dungeons. Only show the map after you get to a flag up to that flag. Or even only after you get every flag. If there's no flag the area is too small to care. Even 1 flag is probably small. But the few places w/ 3 or 4 flags, well if it's that big it can use a map. I think they'll add it eventually, the game has legs. Or the compass line that you'd prefer. Something. Tatsuo just gave us the "follow ball" in XCX, watching my kid play that as well, but I don't see how that would help.
@Oram77 I know I played a game where you could toggle the handheld glow on or off after an update, probably 1 of the Uncharted games, but some game. I think it was too bright after that. I don't need it to be glowing, but a brighter color than a light yellow on tan rocks would be appreciated. In a nature game like Ghost of Tsushima where you are grabbing cliffs it should blend in more but in Clair Obscur it's all built up ladder rungs which where then painted to blend in. A good artistic choice, but not a functionally practical one.

Re: Actor Charlie Cox Feels Like a 'Total Fraud' After Expedition 33's Success
I'm happy for him.
Re: Fans Can't Believe PS5 Has Made More Profit Than All Previous PlayStations Combined
PS - 0
PS2 - 0
PS3 - $49 optional
PS4 - $59 required for online and cloud saves
PS5 - I can't even recall they've increased so much, $79, $99, $119 !?!? π€
Console price is probably only a factor in that Sony used to sell them for a loss but now they probably don't. They sell $700 Pros, $200 Portals, PSVR2 and $150 controllers. Those prices may add up.π€·ββοΈ
Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2025 So Far?
I haven't played any of these yet.π My kid reminded me I have an unopened game in the house I recently purchased but I didn't see it on the list so probably last year. I can't recall the name.π«
I voted for Clair Obscur b/c I watched my kid play it for 50hours and it's really good. I also voted for Split Fiction b/c I am really looking forward to playing it w/ my wife. Not too interested in anything else.
Re: LEGO Fortnite Goes Helldivers In Latest Major Expansion
So does this work like horde mode that they only seem to ever do for Halloween or is it more team based vs other players? I don't like playing on teams where we have to team up and people expect communication but if it's like horde mode and I can just jump in and shoot things it might actually be fun in short bursts.
I dud read the article but have never played Helldivers so it was mostly lost on me.π€·ββοΈ

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Says Sony Has Never Really Seen Nintendo As a Rival
"has NEVER really seen"
Re: 'The Story Is Weak': Stellar Blade Dev Acknowledges PS5, PC Fave's Biggest Flaw
Re: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Deep in Development by 'Team That Truly Cares'
@Oram77 Thry should just combine the 2 games at this point.
Beyond the Good Prince of Persia: The Evil Sands of Time
Sounds like an anime.π
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Teases Big Improvements for Future Updates
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Teases Big Improvements for Future Updates
Option to make the handholds red or purple, any color besides the same brown they use on the rocks they're on.
Map in the dungeons or at least a compass.
Game is that good, I really can't think of anything else.
Re: Borderlands 4 a $70 PS5 Game, Offers $100 and $130 Versions Too
@LiamCroft You typo'd the deluxe edition at $9.99 instead of what I'm assuming should be $99.99.
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.300 Out Now on PS5, Makes Big Balance and Difficulty Adjustments

@Americansamurai1 Exactly. Their measured approach seems to be put out 1 game a year and a year later put it on PC. Seems more lazy than measured to me. π€·ββοΈ
Re: Switch 2 Absolutely Destroys PS2's Launch Record in Japan
I'm not that impressed by this. Like Sony keeps increasing the total sales of PS2 25 years later to try and keep it away from Switch it seems like Nintendo said, well we could launch the Switch 2 in March like we did the Switch, or, we could stockpile inventory until we have enough to break every gaming console launch record.
I mean they basically said as much.
"According to an earlier Nikkei report, Nintendo had planned to launch Switch 2 in late 2024, but βpriority was given to ensure the initial inventory of the successor console and a line-up of software titles at the time of its launchβ in an attempt to avoid widespread reselling."
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/nintendo-says-its-making-preparations-for-switch-2-resellers/
Nice that it's selling well, but launch is launch. Wii was nearly impossible to get in the USA for 2 years. PS5 for a year in part due to COVID. I'm curious to see when Switch 2 finally aren't sold out. Then I'll applaud.
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.300 Out Now on PS5, Makes Big Balance and Difficulty Adjustments
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.3.0 Makes Big Balance and Difficulty Adjustments

@themightyant "MUCH harder than Clea"
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.3.0 Makes Big Balance and Difficulty Adjustments
