I feel like I'm already watching my kid play the Stellar Blade sequel, it's called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.π
Ok I know the game play is a lot different being quick time turn based, but the music, mood, atmosphere, locations all have a very similar vibe. As if the same company made it. I think it could almost work in the same universe with a little help and maybe a 1,000 year time skip.π
@get2sammyb It's the only Gatcha I play so not sure of the timeline of 6 weeks is any better than 4 but 4 is rushing it. We'll at least this time.
I think their real problem was adding the multi-player, which is probably what broke the game. You know I don't, but that entire section seems problematic. Serenity Island seems to be working fine. Well except the soiree only happening for 2 hours but not the 2 hours it says, 2000-2200, but those hours in UTC time, which I still don't understand. I got it work once when I looked it up.
Plus, they ported it to Steam w/ 1.5, which obviously they were ill prepared for.
I do think the whole "story recon" thing is overblown. I mean every comment here mentioned it. My wife has watched me play most of it recently and it just seemed like a separate side story to us, then even mention Edna the curator. Now where they did screw it up is replacing the original opening for the new one. That makes no sense. They should have done what they have always done, kept the original opening, and after you get the Pearpal in Florawish only then can you enter Sea of Stars and watch that ripped from Fortnite cutscene. But only then. But I do think the story works if you've played the game so far, it's an addition, not a recon.
I do have a problem w/ their inconsistency in updates. Some are really good - Fireworks Knight, dark Queen, Serenity Island - but the bullquet was useless, the lady musician was weird, the traveling saleswoman is pointless. I don't have a spreadsheet in front of me but they should work on their marketing and hype levels b/c they treat everything as a big deal for some of it isn't.
I still hope they can work it out, I want to finish the story of the 8 miracle outfits and save the world, then make it back in time for high school graduation or wherever Nikki was taking Momo as her date, but they need to fix it. Make it more like Destiny or FF14 or whatever games do big updates like once every 6 months or a year, and stop with the nonsense. Not sure that's possible but it's what I would do. π€·ββοΈ
It has been a mess, I was getting kicked out on PS5 quite a bit, which was very annoying, but I do think some of it is overblown. Though a lot of it is also self inflicted.π
Seems like they are trying to do too much too fast to keep people engaged but it really isn't that type of game. Feels like they would be better off with bigger 6 month updates and stop w/ these hit or miss smaller filler storyline. I know that's how they make money with the new clothes but it's been too broken. Might be better off if they shut it down until they can get going. Not quite FF14 blow up the planet, but get it all sorted. People seem to be waiting for a house for awhile now, that might be a good place to start.
I still have hope they get it sorted but I bought Farmagia yesterday just in case they don't. π€·ββοΈ

@get2sammyb I can't believe you put 100 million in the title, which I didn't think PS5 was close to, and then say the total is 77 million in the article, which isn't close to 100 million.π
Can't wait until next May when Nintendo Life writes an article titled "Switch 2 Closes in on 100 Million Sold" with the subheader "As it sells 15 million in its first year". π€ͺ
I'm happy for PS5 doing so well, and I do think it will reach 100 Million Sold, some day. But when that day comes I'm not looking forward to the article "PS5 Closing in on Lifetime 150 Million PS2 Sales: With 102 Million Sold". π
I could see it getting a delay. This new date wasn't a "delay", a delay is like a few weeks or a couple of months. In February they said this would be out in fall 2025, so this is a full 6 months later. For yearly releases that's practically the next game.
So yes I will think it will get a delay of a few months, maybe August, but no more rescheduling.
Looking forward to it. I'm watching swason 2 of Silo now and while I do like it, season 1 was way too slow, Fallout is a similar show but much more my speed. Was hoping for November when I read they had finished shooting so can live with December. And season 3 whenever.
@UnlimitedSevens "I don't know who started this rumor that all physical games are just game keys now, but I see it repeated every time."
Maybe it was Nintendo so the Switch 2 looks part of the in crowd? To be fair Nintendo has said their first party games will be on the cart but 3rd party is leaning towards keys.
Glad to read about fixing getting stuck on the world map. Happened to my kid last night and when I looked it up, yeah it happens a lot, mostly in that same spot. Reading the long list of other areas it was also happening and yes that was a real problem.
My kid is playing with their PS5 controller on PC Gamepass but they were going through the Steam app and/or some other 3rd party app to get it to work. And now I'm wondering if they mean we'll also see PS5 controller icons on the screen b/c even though I've only been watching and not playing all of those letters did look rather weird to me.π
Nice to see the updates. Don't think my kid will care about the nerfs, the more the challenge the better for that one. Really don't know where they got it from?π€·ββοΈ
As someone who hasn't played a Doom game since maybe Doom, I don't like first person, I'm actually more intrigued by all the bad sounding new additions, lore, dragons and mechs. Still won't buy it b/c first person but I'm curious to try it out if the opportunity presents itself.
@Deljo Not so much put off as not interested enough to play it maybe? I play JRPGs and platformers, these always looked too normal. But it might be time.
@Gremio108 I did look it up and 1st person was something they added so that must have been what I was thinking. I have like 385 days to play it, think might be able to squeeze it in.π
I do belive where there's smoke there's fire but I can't see any fire through all that smoke in the article. Does active players count people who leave their games running over night to farm and grind in games? I mean what exactly are they even neaduring here?π€·ββοΈ
But yes, Playstation is eating Xbox lunch, hence all the ports. We all know this.
@Deljo I played GTA 3. If that was the big one on PS2. Don't think I enjoyed it all that much. I think 4 wasn't well received. I think when 5 released my kids were kids so I was mostly playing games with them. And I do know enough about 5 that it's not exactly family friendly.π
@Deljo Not sure really. It's not first person is it? I don't play first person games. I don't think my library ever carried it b/c of the rating. And I always have too much stuff I want to play. But since I can't seem to get a Switch 2 maybe between now and then I will?π€·ββοΈ
Not voting b/c I'm not playing it, just watching my kid play it, and they are only 6 hours in, but I'm very impressed so far with all of it. I like that it's a little bit of this and that. Looking forward to more.
@Grumblevolcano Ah, you think key cards will prompt people to migrate to digital, I got ya.π
I'm still unsure. My gut reaction was - key cards are stupid and the worst - but the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. We have 2 Switch in the house and a physical card works better than the new digital game share thing they just implemented. And I borrow a lot of games from the library, so I'm hoping they can continue to get these. I've never gotten a code from the library.
So sure, the game actually being on the cart is better than the code on the cart, but a code on a cart is better than a code on a piece of paper I can't borrow or share. Having to change carts being the 1 obvious downside over actual digital.
Would be nice if these key carts were cheaper since they're smaller, but first things first.
Oh and they SHOULD be in smaller box cases like the 3/DS size so people don't have to read the fine print as it is misleading. But that gets back to me earlier point of where do you draw the line?
Will I buy any? I don't know, maybe. May not even get a Switch 2 at this rate. 1 problem at a time.π
I feel pretty certain theyβll count key cards as physical since theyβll be a physical card sold in a physical box. If key cards count as digital where do you draw the line? How much of the game has to be on the cart? 99%? 51%? Almost no game is all on disc these days with all the day 1 mandatory patches. And if you count βplayable out of the box w/o an internet connectionβ, which seems reasonable, who are you paying to check every box, disc and cart to make sure it works that way?
Iβm guessing, supposing and assuming code cards are treated differently in the systems, same as eShop and PSN credit, digital currency, but the key cards will be treated as physical, b/c the box is. Who knows, maybe it will be a retailer decision?
2024 was not an impressive year.
Switch 2 should help things a bit in 2025 and GTA6 will help in 2026, if it doesnβt get delayed again until 2027.
Physical media is dead though, thereβs just no turning back. But I think thereβs still a long life left in video games.
@get2sammyb I clicked on the link in the article, to GI web page, and they don't mention what it means either, so you're off the hook I guess. π
The FCC says no purchases under 16 w/o parental consent. No word anywhere on what parental consent means or how one goes about getting it. Verbal? Written? π€·ββοΈ
I'd say they should just ban free to start games but some $60 and $70 games seem just as bad, if not worse. How much money is Rockstar pulling in w/ GTAV Online? Even they probably can't count it all.π€
@get2sammyb I feel like this article is missing the most important aspect of age verification, does it do anything? Why ask for an age if the age doesn't matter. And if the age does matter what does it do? Is there an age limit to playing the game? How much money a child or teen can spend? Surely there is a restriction of some type otherwise what's the point of asking age?
I don't play GI but I do play play Nikki, seems similar, I've never spent money, never had a blue crystal, but I do think the game limits you to 9,999 pulls a day. Whatever astronomical cost that may be. I just don't. But if it did have age verification I'm guessing it would do something.π€·ββοΈ
@B0udoir I'm not playing it, just watching my kid. The trickier it is the more likely they are to do it. They play everything on hard mode doing the most work. Lune seems to be doing most of the heavy lifting at the moment. Gustave just dies a lot.π
@themightyant Thanks. Wasn't sure about the first pic but the 2nd looked like Malle for sure. Our party currently consists of Gustave, who is banned from ever wearing the man bun, and Lune as leader b/c reasons. So we're all really hoping for Malle to be 3rd b/c she's the best character of all the ones we've talked to so far. π
My only thoughts are that it's only been 3 months since they were confident it was coming out this fall so maybe next February I'll watch this, to see if they've edited the date.
2 million copies sold for a game included in Gamepass that's new IP seems like a win. π
Just started watching my kid play it last night. We gave them a 3 month Gamepass subscription I bought on CDkeys for Christmas 2023. It surprisingly still worked, and MS even gave them another month for turning on auto-pay. Just have to remember to cancel before they go back to campus in August. They're hooking their laptop up to the TV at night so my wife and I can watch. Playing with a PS5 controller which I could never do with all the Xbox buttons on the screen but I guess they're used to it.
Anyway it's taking some effort but worth it so far. Only about 2 hours in, after playing for 3 1/2 hours b/c they were adamant about beating that first optional difficult guy. And a little grinding to get the timing down. They only ever play on expert. I'd be playing on story. Bonus points for the game having difficulty options. Also bonus for some healing options. Game has the look of a Soulslikes, I mean those hands guys are just Elden Ring, but they seem like they wanted to make it a fair playable adventure.
So they deserve all the credit, and all the sales they can get.
Are 2 of those pics above of Malle? I certainly hope so. Like I said we're about 2 hours in so...
I really don't understand this being just the first game, it's a trilogy. And they are all relatively short. I'd rather see a remake of all 3 for $70 or even $80 than just the first for $50.
I was fortunate enough to play them back-to-back on Xbox One and it really did feel like 1 game. I suppose if you played all 3 as they released you might feel differently.
My kid was thinking about starting this on Gamepass. Maybe I'll watch over their shoulder for a bit, still seems to dark for my liking but maybe it'll grow on me.
@wildcat_kickz I'm afraid we're past the point of no return on capitalism, like democracy, in the US. People were never meant to be billionaires living to be 90 years old. People were meant to die penniless at 50. And now the.01% are trying to make the 99.9% die at 50 so they can keep being billionaires until 90.
Sure, maybe the US can survive 3 1/2 years of this crime syndicate government hell bent on killing us all and destroying the planet, maybe democracy can prevail. But not fair and honest capitalism. That ship has sailed. Too many people. Too few ultra rich folk to keep each other honest. It's all insider trading and collusion now. They build enough AI and robots that won't even need us.
The world is full of fools and their money. For the rest of us, porn and legal weed. πππΏ
I wonder how much closer thus gets us to the future of gaming where every year, more 2 or 3, there are new consoles like the mud-genbrefreshes that cost more. Kind of like video cards or iPhone. I suppose these won't be "next gen" in any real sense as the games may play on 4bor 5 generations of consoles, but it certainly feels like the days of waiting a few years to buy a GameCube for $99 are over. π€
@naruball Competition is good, in a well run capitalistic society. We just aren't in that anymore. If someone throws you a life preserver in the desert or an anvil in the ocean it doesn't mean those objects don't work, just not in those situations.
@wildcat_kickz "It's why consumer protection and antitrust laws exist"
Not saying it was as far along as this game, obviously it wasn't, but at least some of it seemed playable and the graphics were pretty good for nearly 10 years ago.π€·ββοΈ
@Quintumply Well done on the subheader and the other occasional, but not too many or obvious, puns.π
My earlier NL post:
My kid got the game as a Christmas gift but we were holding off on starting waiting for this. Will probably wait until fall now, summer is kinda booked, but it's nice to get a date so I can stop looking up when it's coming out. π
Don't suppose they took the opportunity to add in a story mode? I'd like to give it a try but repeating myself doesn't really work for me. Gow:R Valhalla made it work, I only died once during the opening which seemed unavoidable on the games part, and then playing on easy I was able to make it through to the end of the story and I didn't even mind replaying the same sections over and over b/c it all felt like it served a purpose. Had I been playing on normal and dying every once in awhile there's just no way no how I would have made it through to the end.
Though actually now that I think about it I never did die so I don't know what would have happened next, but if losing to the final boss if each run put you way back at the beginning then yeah, no. If it put you back after the mid-level boss I might have kept going. Maybe. Though some of those seemed more difficult than the last, so maybe not.
I skipped Monday b/c the update wasn't supposed to be done for me until bedtime, and when I did boot it up Tuesday night, after a 348MB update, I got in no problem and it seemed as fine as it usually is. I did get stuck once just standing there but I fast traveled and that took care of that. I only play single player b/c the co-op seems to be online only but no couch so I said no. Dying ain't my thing. I sort of only half paid attention to the tutorial. Hopefully it's never required.
I did think it weird the fast travel locations on the new island wouldn't let me access the spend your vitality areas but I can't say if that's broken or a design choice.
I only played for about an hour in the new area before riding the boat back then I turned it off. I suppose the new Piecys bubble storyline could be causing problems, that's a big area with a lot going on already, despite most of it being water.
Anyway the opening cut scene, straight out of a Fortnite chapter end, was very cool. I like how they tied it all back to the oh so long ago opening. Going full MCU multiverse wasn't anything I expected.
So with all the new additions, on PS5, PC and mobile - so many mobile devices - I'm not surprised they had some issues. They'll figure it out.
Thanks @ShogunRok It is sounding a bit boring and repetitive honestly. I'm currently 10 hours into Visions of Mana and I think the bright colors and nonstop chatter are really more my speed. I do have a question though. That picture in the middle of the review, with the guys face and the white line going across the bottom. Is that white line supposed to be words, in English? Is there no accessibility slider to make the font larger option in the game b/c nobody is reading that from their couch.π

Re: DOOM: The Dark Ages (PS5) - Medieval Mashup Slows Down for FPS Excellence
As someone who hasn't played a Doom game since maybe Doom, I don't like first person, I'm actually more intrigued by all the bad sounding new additions, lore, dragons and mechs. Still won't buy it b/c first person but I'm curious to try it out if the opportunity presents itself.
Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?
@Deljo Not so much put off as not interested enough to play it maybe? I play JRPGs and platformers, these always looked too normal. But it might be time.
@Gremio108 I did look it up and 1st person was something they added so that must have been what I was thinking. I have like 385 days to play it, think might be able to squeeze it in.π
Re: PS5's Share of Active US Players Is Slowly Beginning to Pummel Xbox
I do belive where there's smoke there's fire but I can't see any fire through all that smoke in the article. Does active players count people who leave their games running over night to farm and grind in games? I mean what exactly are they even neaduring here?π€·ββοΈ
But yes, Playstation is eating Xbox lunch, hence all the ports. We all know this.
Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?
@Deljo I played GTA 3. If that was the big one on PS2. Don't think I enjoyed it all that much. I think 4 wasn't well received. I think when 5 released my kids were kids so I was mostly playing games with them. And I do know enough about 5 that it's not exactly family friendly.π
Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?
@Deljo Not sure really. It's not first person is it? I don't play first person games. I don't think my library ever carried it b/c of the rating. And I always have too much stuff I want to play. But since I can't seem to get a Switch 2 maybe between now and then I will?π€·ββοΈ
Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?
Not hyped but it is making me consider playing GTA V. I still have a year though so no rush.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Not voting b/c I'm not playing it, just watching my kid play it, and they are only 6 hours in, but I'm very impressed so far with all of it. I like that it's a little bit of this and that. Looking forward to more.
Re: Physical Game Sales See Dramatic Drop-Off in UK as Console Market Struggles
Re: Neon Apex: Beyond the Limit Could Scratch Your WipEout Itch on PS5 Next Week

Re: Physical Game Sales See Dramatic Drop-Off in UK as Console Market Struggles
@Grumblevolcano βkey cardsβ
Re: Genshin Impact Players Must Verify Their Age or Risk Losing All Their Progress on PS5, PS4
@get2sammyb I clicked on the link in the article, to GI web page, and they don't mention what it means either, so you're off the hook I guess. π
The FCC says no purchases under 16 w/o parental consent. No word anywhere on what parental consent means or how one goes about getting it. Verbal? Written? π€·ββοΈ
https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/01/genshin-impact-game-developer-will-be-banned-selling-lootboxes-teens-under-16-without-parental
I'd say they should just ban free to start games but some $60 and $70 games seem just as bad, if not worse. How much money is Rockstar pulling in w/ GTAV Online? Even they probably can't count it all.π€
Re: Destiny 2 Travels to a Galaxy Far, Far Away in Star Wars Themed Expansion on PS5, PS4
So Destiny 2 is just Fortnite now? Thanks.
Re: Genshin Impact Players Must Verify Their Age or Risk Losing All Their Progress on PS5, PS4
Re: GTA 6 Can Now Be Added to Your PS5 Wishlist
Series S, the gift that keeps on giving, to Switch 2.
385 days to finally play GTAV I guess. The single player, not whatever it became.
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a Proper Breakout Hit, Now at 2 Million Copies Sold
@B0udoir I'm not playing it, just watching my kid. The trickier it is the more likely they are to do it. They play everything on hard mode doing the most work. Lune seems to be doing most of the heavy lifting at the moment. Gustave just dies a lot.π
Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a Proper Breakout Hit, Now at 2 Million Copies Sold
@themightyant Thanks. Wasn't sure about the first pic but the 2nd looked like Malle for sure. Our party currently consists of Gustave, who is banned from ever wearing the man bun, and Lune as leader b/c reasons. So we're all really hoping for Malle to be 3rd b/c she's the best character of all the ones we've talked to so far. π
Re: GTA 6 Trailer 2 Is Finally Here, PS5 Graphics Are Jaw-Dropping
My only thoughts are that it's only been 3 months since they were confident it was coming out this fall so maybe next February I'll watch this, to see if they've edited the date.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a Proper Breakout Hit, Now at 2 Million Copies Sold
Re: Gears of War: Reloaded Remasters the Original Game This August, Confirmed for PS5
Re: Expedition 33 Is Increasing in Popularity with Each Successive Week
My kid was thinking about starting this on Gamepass. Maybe I'll watch over their shoulder for a bit, still seems to dark for my liking but maybe it'll grow on me.

Re: Xbox Now Selling PS5 Games for $80, Joins Switch 2 in Price Increase
For the rest of us, porn and legal weed. πππΏ
Re: PS5 Pro Is No Longer the Most Expensive Console You Can Buy
I wonder how much closer thus gets us to the future of gaming where every year, more 2 or 3, there are new consoles like the mud-genbrefreshes that cost more. Kind of like video cards or iPhone. I suppose these won't be "next gen" in any real sense as the games may play on 4bor 5 generations of consoles, but it certainly feels like the days of waiting a few years to buy a GameCube for $99 are over. π€
Re: Xbox Now Selling PS5 Games for $80, Joins Switch 2 in Price Increase
@naruball Competition is good, in a well run capitalistic society. We just aren't in that anymore. If someone throws you a life preserver in the desert or an anvil in the ocean it doesn't mean those objects don't work, just not in those situations.
@wildcat_kickz "It's why consumer protection and antitrust laws exist"
Yeah, about that.

Welcome to the wasteland. We live in the post apocalyptic, or at least post capitalistic, world now, our brains just won't let us accept it. π€ͺ

@Quintumply Well done on the subheader and the other occasional, but not too many or obvious, puns.π
My earlier NL post:
My kid got the game as a Christmas gift but we were holding off on starting waiting for this. Will probably wait until fall now, summer is kinda booked, but it's nice to get a date so I can stop looking up when it's coming out. π
Re: Returnal, One of This Gen's Best Games, Gets a Massive PS5 Pro Upgrade
Glad I got to play it, it was fun.π
Re: Infinity Nikki's Biggest Ever PS5 Update Prompts a Grovelling Apology, Free Compensation
Re: Sony's Long Anticipated Lost Soul Aside Has Been Delayed Again on PS5, PC
I think the first time I ever saw this my first thought was "Scalebound" and that may have been a bad omen. π
Maybe if 2 guys had been making it the past 10 years instead of only 1?π€·ββοΈ
Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (PS5) - The Largely Fantastic Revival of a Landmark RPG
