Update []:
Following the leak from earlier today, Sony has officially announced the cover star and release date for MLB: The Show 26.
The leaks were indeed correct; Aaron Judge will be the face of this year's baseball sim, and the game will launch on 17th March, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. There's no mention of Nintendo Switch 2 on the official PS Blog post.
Sony also says there will be a debut gameplay trailer for the upcoming title next week on 3rd February, where we'll be able to learn a lot more about what this year's game has to offer.

Original Story: Traditionally, each new entry in Sony's MLB The Show series features a new baseball player on its cover. However, things will be different for the upcoming game, MLB The Show 26.
A few days ago, the game's official social accounts stated there would be no new cover athlete for the next game, leading to all sorts of responses from fans.
However, thanks to reliable leaker billbil-kun (reporting via Dealabs), we may now know the identity of who will grace the cover of MLB The Show 26, as well as the game's release date, before any official announcement.
According to the report, the new game's cover star will be New York Yankees player Aaron Judge, who has previously fronted the game franchise with MLB The Show 18.
As for the release date, billbil-kun states the game will launch for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 17th March, 2026. A Switch 2 version is "uncertain".
Given the leaker's track record, we're inclined to believe this information is accurate, and that official confirmation will follow fairly soon.

Just as well I didn’t bet on Shohei.
I thought it was going to be Shohei again, yeah.
All rise ! Minimum text here just so could do the AJ chant
***** the jankees 😊
Did we really need that last Met standing picture to go with a Yankee announcement. My team has been enough of an embarrassment as it is. Though I suppose last week was an improvement but still.😝
Not sure why Judge again, should have given someone on Toronto a shot after making it to the WS, like Springer or Vlad Jr. Bo Bichette would have been funny but I doubt they have that much of a sense of humor.😂
@rjejr
I'm a Yankees fan but, begrudgingly, I'd say you named some good alternatives there. Judge has had his turn before, Vlad Jr. would've been very deserving after that postseason he had.
When they made that announcement I thought it was because they were gonna do a collage of past cover athletes to celebrate the games 20th anniversary. That would have been cooler.
Should have been Will Smith 😂
Aaron "Arson" Judge is reportedly the cover star, but that looks like Fransisco Lindor in the screenshot 🤣
@Gamer83 Fun fact, Vlad Jr was the cover athlete for MLB 24 in Canada.
What a disappointment. Could have been any number of people but of course it’s that blockhead Yankee.
judge has been the best player in baseball since 2022 not even ohtani could match judge..
And I'm taking a massive stab in the dark here, but outside the US; I'm guessing this means absolutely nothing 🤔😄
@Gamer83 @Optimus Jdge is great, like Men in Black alien great, but I don't think he needed another cover just 8 years after the first. I might feel different if he helped them win the WS, or, ya know, get them there. But alas. Maybe marketing found he sells. Not like the game isn't digital anyway. At least it's a better selection than Sanders in the Pro Bowl. 🤪
@IronCrow86 Judging by the comments Canada may have cared if they got a deserving Blue Jay. 😁
Looking forward to Rounders Simulator 2026!
