As someone who really doesn't see what a Pro brings to the table it would take a lot for Sony to convince me - "No, we couldn't possibly make this game run on PS5."
I mean look how they sold us on PS5. PS4 couldn't get the HFW dlc b/c "clouds". Yes they really sold us on clouds. Then we needed a PS5 for Ratchet & Clank for the SSD so we could zip through worlds we never stopped to play in. Then Cyberpunk was trash on PS4 but oh look it can run on Switch 2, which is only slightly more powerful than a PS4.
So what are they going to tell us we need a PS6 for? Better puddles in Spiderman 3? Is Kratos going to say "Boy" better in 8.2 sound? My $1,000 4k HDR tv can't even do VRR so that's not even a selling point for me. And even if it did,how many more frames do we need than 120?
8k tvs aren't a thing yet. We haven't moved on from HDMI, HDR or Dolby Atmos. The PS6 is a console in search of an excuse to exist. I'm not buying it at $600, $800 or $1,000, I don't need anything to look or play better than what we gave now. I just literally can't see it.
I know this isn't related, but I just can't stop thinking about how Netflix just raised it's prices by $1 or $2, depending on your plan, right after Netflix just got $2.8 BILLION with a B dollars from not buying Warner Brothers. I know Netflix spends a lot on content but $2.8B for walking away last month and they still raised prices this month. So not just Sony.🤑
I just started 7 Deadly Sins Origins which has a similar graphical look, which everyone says is just a 7DS skin on Genshin Impact, which I haven't played, so I wouldn't know, but I do think it looks a lot like Visions of Mana, tree and all. So maybe these games are just all running on Unreal. 🤷♂️
Not a big Pokémon person, but I'd probably play this if I had time. Infinity Nikki just updated to 2.4 yesterday. And I still have Palia on my Wishlist.
At least Epic seems to be having issues so I can be glad I stopped playing Fortnite over the holidays.

Not my kind of game but they certainly nailed the whole graphics, mood, vibe thing. There was a Dreamcast game that took place in a remote building surrounded by snow that had some type of X-Files mystery to solve. The people making this must have played that. I think it had some weird 1 word title like X or something.

For all of you lucky enough to live in a modern country where universal health care is a thing, let me tell you here in the US people get jobs just to have health care. It's hard to retire or Switch jobs b/c you need job provided Healthcare. Especially now when the government is screwing over the ACA provided insurance that we have.
But young healthy people can stay on their parents insurance until 26, and a lot of younger people don't bother. So Tim spending so much time on this makes me wonder if it's really just the young people he's getting rid of or a lot of the long term older crowd making more money.
My point being, is it all just Fortnite or is something else going on at Epic? Like their store or game engine leases? Or did Tim Sweeney buy a lot of expensive NFTs a few years ago that are now worthless? Sorry to go all conspiracy theory but Tim's a white guy, probably has white guy problems, like gambling addiction or something.

Only 1 I played was Code Veronica on the Dreamcast. At some point in the game I went through a door or portal that wouldn't let me go back, and I was all out of ammo and maybe rapes to save as well, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't progress forward. So that was that.
Still haven't watched any of tye movies but keep meaning to, whenever I have time and access to all 7.

This graphics stuff is giving me a headache, and whiplash.
On the 1 hand I really do like nice graphics. I appreciate bright colors and detailed environments. I'm not a fan of 2D-HD, pixels, or anything described as retro or indie.
On the other hand I don't need anything more photo realistic than the Horizon or Ghost games. Astrobot pretty much made real playing a Pixar movie.
I'm OK with AAA games going back to the Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube era. Sure things are better now, but not dramatically so. (On the Nintendo side, even 4 generations removed from the GameCube, Nintendo first party games still look like Nintendo first party games.)
So while the improvements are nice, I'd rather have a new game every 2 years that looked like a PS3 game then wait 7 years and a new console generation for a new game in a series I like.
1 thing Cerny or anyone else at AMD or Nvidia talk about is how long it takes games that look this good. How long it adds to the development cycle. How much it adds to the cost of the games, and the hardware, to keep improving things incrementally. And then stop and ask themselves, is it worth it?
Square released FF7, FF8 and FF9 in 3 consecutive years, and now it's taking them at least 6 years to re-release just FF7. At what point is it enough?
That Kiln trailer looked way different, and better, than I was expecting. I was thinking 2D physics free to play fighter but it looks more like Splatoon or the Plants vs Zombies brawlers. Like, I really had no idea what was going on. Could just be a Fall Guy's like party game for all I know. Quite bizarre, I'll give them that.

The plastic cover is garbage and it does make A LOT of whirring noises when we first put the disc in but I really don't notice it when I crank up the volume. I haven't gamed on it in forever. Maybe never.
I bought it as a multimedia streamer for my bedroom for like $100. That's what those hockey puck devices were going for back then, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I've since put our old PS4 in the bedroom and the PS3 in the living room. My kid doesn't seem to care. I read somewhere you can burn out the disc drive in the PS5 so I only use that for ultra rare 4k discs. Think I did that once.
As an old man myself, who has been noticing the wrinkles more and more recently in the same bathroom I've had for 20 years, they didn't just change the lighting on that lady, they aged her like 25-30 years. She went from "old" to "elderly".
And not old like those old 35yo gamers, like actually old to ancient.
My kid has been borrowing old Marvel movie DVDs from the library and watching them on our PS3 Superslim. And they always leave the sliding top open when taking them out which still annoys me. 😂
Our PS3 phat, non-PS2 edition, has been sitting on the floor collecting dust for years. I'm assuming the Superslim uses less power for DVD viewing. Maybe this will give me an excuse to move it and update it. Don't game on either of them, most of the controllers have broken buttons.
That God of War one was so good I thought it was real before reading the article, even though he still just looks like Opie in a cheap Kratos Halloween costume to me. 😂
Some of the other ones are just kind of funny but I think GoW actually shows what the problem is, it isn't changing the lighting, it's really changing the model.

Edit 2: The free version of 7DS Origins is up. You have a choice of "pre-donwload", yes they misspelled download as donwload which doesn't bode well to me, or the full game with all updates. I'm downloading the pre-donwload first b/c it's 20gb, or about how long I figured I needed to type this.
I also found out the voice options are only Japanese and Korean. I usually pick Japanese voices for my movies, games and TV shows but I'm hoping the Gatcha don't get me since they misspelled donwload.😝 I was going to screen capture the typo but the PS5 wouldn't let me.😂 OK time to go.
Skydance Paramount has Skydance Interactive which makes VR games and Skydance Media where Amy Hennig is making Rise of Hydra so there is room for video game development after the merger but who knows how many studios they want to have?
I'd probably be worried if my company was being bought though.
$60 seems kinda excessive for what looks like a $30 package of plastic but then again Nintendo is selling a $55 piece of plastic amiibo for Kirby Star Riders that doesn't include the game so... it's all relative I guess.
I played the first and second seasons of this, it was fun, but not enough to keep me going. 7 Deadly Sins Origins releases tomorrow, hopefully that's more to my liking.
This whole map time zone thing seems very free-to-start for a $70 game. If you're paying $70 to own a game you shouldn't have to wait until late in the day to play it. Free to start games can do whatever they want, it's free.
I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it has some story to go along with the gameplay. I don't know anything about the anime or manga but that's probably for the best. I'm playing a lot of Infinity Nikki which is like the 5th game in the series but I don't know anything about any of those.
I do know it's $9.99 on the store so I can't pre-install it until it goes free I'm guessing at some point on Monday, hopefully I can install it during the day and play at night.

The graphics remind me a lot of Visions of Mana. Not the menus or battle system but the actual world. Which is a plus for me. I'd much rather play colorful cartoon than say Where Winds Meet, too black and tan.
If this handheld releases like a year or so BEFORE the PS6 then I don't possibly see how it's a portable PS6 and not a Portable PS5. Wouldn't the graphical and computing power of a PS6 melt a portable, or give you only like 20 minutes of battery life?
Sony may have a portable next year, but I just can't belive it will have PS6 power, nor have any exclusive games. And if it doesn't have any next gen PS6 games then it's a portable PS5.

I don't play any of these games but while I do think Marathon has a chance b/c Bungie, and people who already paid for it will keep playing b/c they already paid for it, I just have to think Fairgame$ joins Concorde and High Guard on the scrap heap.
The ratio or rate of success does not seem very high for these types of games and I think Marathon success will contribute to Fairgame$ downfall like it probably contributed to Highguards demise.

Good to see. But the problem with this it's kind of a blame the victim change. It's like raising the age of wearing a bikini at the pool from 12 to 18 b/c of all the sexual harassment from the boys. The article even says several times: we hope this forces the industry to change. If they want the industry to change force them to change. As most people commented the PEGI age eating ain't doing all that much.
Though I'd argue making a game 18 might get a parents attention but going from 3 to 12? Nothing wrong with a game for 12 year Olds. Or even 16 probably. I'd argue they might be better off getting rid of all the age ratings except for 18. If it has gambling it's 18. Parents might notice then.
Of course probably like 99% of gaming these days is on mobile or digital on console, so is anybody even aware of the PEGI at all? It's not like 2 or 3 decades ago where we're buying boxes off a shelf with a big code on the front. Do a survey of all parents who's kids play Roblox and ask them the PEGI. They may guess it correctly, but nobody knows.
What games is MS, or any other company, working on that can't run on Series X that they need a dev kit for Helix? Are there a lot of PC games being made now that can't run on consoles? Not currently aren't on consoles, but can't run on them b/c the hardware isn't powerful enough?
What install base will Helix have in 2027 or even 2020 that can justify any dev making an exclusive game for it?
Until we all have 8k tvs it's pretty much all incremental at this point. I think any company making a Series X game can get it to run on Helix with little effort. And no company is making Helix exclusives for at least 3 years.
Not saying dev kits don't matter, they do, but probably not the end and and be all right now. Make your game on Series X, tweak it a bit for Helix.
If those 2 player co-op modes were couch available I'd consider buying the game sooner rather than later. Waiting for whatever island single player decides they come up with.

When I do need to play remotely b/c someone else is using the TV I still have my PS4 hooked up in the bedroom and if I can't get on there the Apple iPad app works well enough for me for free. PS5 controller hooks up no problem as well.

I asked about the trophy situation a few years back and someone on Twitter told me nobody has any trophies in Fortnite b/c they were locked in a paywalled game mode most people don't pay to play.

10 years from now you can all remember me saying the next console gen is the last console gen. Nintendo already gave up on consoles 2 gens ago, Switch and Switch 2 are tables w/ tv out.
I only run Linux on my old leftover PCS that won't run Windows 11 so I can't imagine needing to do it to my PS5 for at least another decade.
But if you paid $400 or $500 for a piece of hardware you should be allowed to run whatever you want on it - Linux, Mac, Windows, Android. It's your hardware, you own it. If they don't like it don't sell the hardware, rent it.

Only 1 I played was Code Veronica on the Dreamcast. At some point in the game I went through a door or portal that wouldn't let me go back, and I was all out of ammo and maybe rapes to save as well, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't progress forward. So that was that.
Still haven't watched any of tye movies but keep meaning to, whenever I have time and access to all 7.
So yeah, not really a fan.😂

It is crazy though how long it takes to make a AAA video game. Which is probably why they'll turn to AI to speed things up a bit and tell us to be thankful we don't have to wait as long now.
Which reminds me, I need to find out if Intergalactic is a full game before it releases or just a first part like God of War or FF7R. I don't think I'll be gaming long enough to finish it if it's only the first half or third.😩

This graphics stuff is giving me a headache, and whiplash.
On the 1 hand I really do like nice graphics. I appreciate bright colors and detailed environments. I'm not a fan of 2D-HD, pixels, or anything described as retro or indie.
On the other hand I don't need anything more photo realistic than the Horizon or Ghost games. Astrobot pretty much made real playing a Pixar movie.
I'm OK with AAA games going back to the Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube era. Sure things are better now, but not dramatically so. (On the Nintendo side, even 4 generations removed from the GameCube, Nintendo first party games still look like Nintendo first party games.)
So while the improvements are nice, I'd rather have a new game every 2 years that looked like a PS3 game then wait 7 years and a new console generation for a new game in a series I like.
1 thing Cerny or anyone else at AMD or Nvidia talk about is how long it takes games that look this good. How long it adds to the development cycle. How much it adds to the cost of the games, and the hardware, to keep improving things incrementally. And then stop and ask themselves, is it worth it?
Square released FF7, FF8 and FF9 in 3 consecutive years, and now it's taking them at least 6 years to re-release just FF7. At what point is it enough?

That Kiln trailer looked way different, and better, than I was expecting. I was thinking 2D physics free to play fighter but it looks more like Splatoon or the Plants vs Zombies brawlers. Like, I really had no idea what was going on. Could just be a Fall Guy's like party game for all I know. Quite bizarre, I'll give them that.

The plastic cover is garbage and it does make A LOT of whirring noises when we first put the disc in but I really don't notice it when I crank up the volume. I haven't gamed on it in forever. Maybe never.
I bought it as a multimedia streamer for my bedroom for like $100. That's what those hockey puck devices were going for back then, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I've since put our old PS4 in the bedroom and the PS3 in the living room. My kid doesn't seem to care. I read somewhere you can burn out the disc drive in the PS5 so I only use that for ultra rare 4k discs. Think I did that once.

My kid has been borrowing old Marvel movie DVDs from the library and watching them on our PS3 Superslim. And they always leave the sliding top open when taking them out which still annoys me. 😂
Our PS3 phat, non-PS2 edition, has been sitting on the floor collecting dust for years. I'm assuming the Superslim uses less power for DVD viewing. Maybe this will give me an excuse to move it and update it. Don't game on either of them, most of the controllers have broken buttons.

Some of the other ones are just kind of funny but I think GoW actually shows what the problem is, it isn't changing the lighting, it's really changing the model.
I've accidentally followed too many AI models on IG over the years but my brain finally taught itself to instantly know the look. Basically my brain just scoffs if it sees freckles.😂

@get2sammyb Someone forgot to tell 7 Deadly Sins Origins it was releasing today 3/16/26. It's now 11:15AM in New York, so 4 or 5PM in the EU/UK and it still says available to pre-order for $9.99 both in the mobile app and the PS5 store.
I gotta go throw dinner in the crock pot slow cooker and then start making soup for lunch then I'll check again after noon to see if it's available yet and update my comment.
Edit: AI says "Release Time (UTC): 5:00 PM UTC" which is 1PM by me so a couple of hours yet. After a year of Infinity Nikki I still haven't learned to translate UTC. 😝 Of course we just started daylight saving time last week so even if I did know before I probably wouldn't now.😩

Edit 2: The free version of 7DS Origins is up. You have a choice of "pre-donwload", yes they misspelled download as donwload which doesn't bode well to me, or the full game with all updates. I'm downloading the pre-donwload first b/c it's 20gb, or about how long I figured I needed to type this.
I also found out the voice options are only Japanese and Korean. I usually pick Japanese voices for my movies, games and TV shows but I'm hoping the Gatcha don't get me since they misspelled donwload.😝 I was going to screen capture the typo but the PS5 wouldn't let me.😂 OK time to go.

Skydance Paramount has Skydance Interactive which makes VR games and Skydance Media where Amy Hennig is making Rise of Hydra so there is room for video game development after the merger but who knows how many studios they want to have?

$60 seems kinda excessive for what looks like a $30 package of plastic but then again Nintendo is selling a $55 piece of plastic amiibo for Kirby Star Riders that doesn't include the game so... it's all relative I guess.
I played the first and second seasons of this, it was fun, but not enough to keep me going. 7 Deadly Sins Origins releases tomorrow, hopefully that's more to my liking.

I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it has some story to go along with the gameplay. I don't know anything about the anime or manga but that's probably for the best. I'm playing a lot of Infinity Nikki which is like the 5th game in the series but I don't know anything about any of those.
I do know it's $9.99 on the store so I can't pre-install it until it goes free I'm guessing at some point on Monday, hopefully I can install it during the day and play at night.
Edit: Just watched the Vid. May need to turn off both vibration and haptuc feedback if they're on too much, I can only take so much in Astrobot, but it's nice they added them. Not much else of note in the Vid. It's 2026, I think we know we need a 4k TV to get 4k.
The graphics remind me a lot of Visions of Mana. Not the menus or battle system but the actual world. Which is a plus for me. I'd much rather play colorful cartoon than say Where Winds Meet, too black and tan.

If this handheld releases like a year or so BEFORE the PS6 then I don't possibly see how it's a portable PS6 and not a Portable PS5. Wouldn't the graphical and computing power of a PS6 melt a portable, or give you only like 20 minutes of battery life?
Sony may have a portable next year, but I just can't belive it will have PS6 power, nor have any exclusive games. And if it doesn't have any next gen PS6 games then it's a portable PS5.
I mean at this point when can we even expect PS6 exclusives that won't run on the PS5 or PS5 Pro? 2032?

I don't play any of these games but while I do think Marathon has a chance b/c Bungie, and people who already paid for it will keep playing b/c they already paid for it, I just have to think Fairgame$ joins Concorde and High Guard on the scrap heap.
The ratio or rate of success does not seem very high for these types of games and I think Marathon success will contribute to Fairgame$ downfall like it probably contributed to Highguards demise.
I'm really not sure about Horizon. Game looks like it could get some kids playing it but will it be enough? 🤷♂️

@TrollOfWar If there are no, none as in zero, Helix exclusive games, then defacto by default there is no "next gen Xbox" b/c if there are no Helix exclusive games then you have a PC that plays last and current gen Xbox games.
So it's a PC that plays old Xbox ports and Xbox ends with this gen, Series X/S.
Which might have been what you were getting at, just wanted to be clear about it.

Good to see. But the problem with this it's kind of a blame the victim change. It's like raising the age of wearing a bikini at the pool from 12 to 18 b/c of all the sexual harassment from the boys. The article even says several times: we hope this forces the industry to change. If they want the industry to change force them to change. As most people commented the PEGI age eating ain't doing all that much.
Though I'd argue making a game 18 might get a parents attention but going from 3 to 12? Nothing wrong with a game for 12 year Olds. Or even 16 probably. I'd argue they might be better off getting rid of all the age ratings except for 18. If it has gambling it's 18. Parents might notice then.
Of course probably like 99% of gaming these days is on mobile or digital on console, so is anybody even aware of the PEGI at all? It's not like 2 or 3 decades ago where we're buying boxes off a shelf with a big code on the front. Do a survey of all parents who's kids play Roblox and ask them the PEGI. They may guess it correctly, but nobody knows.

What games is MS, or any other company, working on that can't run on Series X that they need a dev kit for Helix? Are there a lot of PC games being made now that can't run on consoles? Not currently aren't on consoles, but can't run on them b/c the hardware isn't powerful enough?
What install base will Helix have in 2027 or even 2020 that can justify any dev making an exclusive game for it?
Until we all have 8k tvs it's pretty much all incremental at this point. I think any company making a Series X game can get it to run on Helix with little effort. And no company is making Helix exclusives for at least 3 years.
Not saying dev kits don't matter, they do, but probably not the end and and be all right now. Make your game on Series X, tweak it a bit for Helix.

When I do need to play remotely b/c someone else is using the TV I still have my PS4 hooked up in the bedroom and if I can't get on there the Apple iPad app works well enough for me for free. PS5 controller hooks up no problem as well.

You joke but trophies was my first thought as I have like 1,000 hours in the game and 0 trophies, which just looks weird. I asked about the trophy situation a few years back and someone on Twitter told me nobody has any trophies in Fortnite b/c they were locked in a paywalled game mode most people don't pay to play.
I haven't touched Fortnite since Christmas but I think I'll need to boot it up in April b/c I kinda sorta have to know. And having 1 trophy after 1,000 hours is better than 0 trophies.😂

I stopped playing around the holidays after a few years. No reason, just did. I paid about $8 for however many?-bux back then to buy a season pass. I stopped playing with about 3,000 V-bux left. If I ever did go back to playing it I wonder if my V-bux will still be there?
Not that I really need them anyway, I have way more skins than anyone could ever need. Game is free to play for real.

Well at least console and PC gaming. I still think in the future it's all cloud streaming to TVs and Airplay out to tvs from our phones. But I don't really want to do that either.

I only run Linux on my old leftover PCS that won't run Windows 11 so I can't imagine needing to do it to my PS5 for at least another decade.
But if you paid $400 or $500 for a piece of hardware you should be allowed to run whatever you want on it - Linux, Mac, Windows, Android. It's your hardware, you own it. If they don't like it don't sell the hardware, rent it.
