Fable PS5

Playground Games will have a PS5 version of Fable ready to go on its launch day along with Xbox Series X|S and PC, but Forza Horizon 6 won't.

The reason for that is purely down to development timelines and changes in strategy. Though, Microsoft is aware of the inconsistencies in its PS5 ports and is actually looking to improve on things.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan said: "Sometimes we are inconsistent. You see some games in one place, some games in multiple places. Just know that we're going to work on that, and we're going to try and be more consistent with what we do."

The comment came as part of a wider question asking why Fable and the new Double Fine game Kiln are launching day one on PS5, but Forza Horizon 6 is delayed. Duncan explained that it's all about adapting your current development plan to changing strategies and targets.

"When a strategy changes, maybe you've got a plan that exists with a game and maybe you can adopt that, maybe you can't." It appears that at the time the decision was made to put Forza Horizon 6 on PS5, the studio wasn't in a position where it could deliver that port on the same day as Xbox Series X|S and PC. For Fable and Kiln, the teams seemingly can.

Xbox games planned for the future that currently lack a confirmed PS5 version include Gears of War: E-Day, Clockwork Revolution, and State of Decay 3. We will have to wait and see if those versions are confirmed, and then whether or not they arrive day and date with Xbox and PC to see if Microsoft has improved its consistency.

Duncan then continued by saying each of Microsoft's teams just want their games to be played by as many people as possible. "That's always our goal. It's rarely more complicated than that. It's like, how can we get this game to as many players as we can?"

This lines up with quotes from the internal Fable team, where founder Ryan Fulton said Playground Games wants "the largest number of people to experience our games and enjoy them".
