Amid Many Delays and Cancellations, Beyond Good and Evil 2 Is Still Alive at Ubisoft 1

This week, Ubisoft announced a huge reshuffle of its entire publishing business, and caught in the crossfire are many games, mostly unannounced, that have either been delayed or outright cancelled.

One title that seems to have made it through the process unscathed is the elusive Beyond Good and Evil 2. That's according to Insider Gaming, which reports the game is still in production despite the corporate shake-up that's canned other projects.

Ubisoft has since confirmed this to Insider Gaming, with a spokesperson providing a brief statement:

"Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains a priority for us in the context of our strategy centred around Open World Adventures."

The game has been in development since at least May 2008, when it was first announced to the public. It's been in the works for nearly 18 years, or to put it another way, slightly longer than Push Square has existed.

It's reappeared every now and then, most notably at E3 2017 where it was re-revealed with a brilliant CG trailer. However, aside from rare moments like this, it's largely remained a no-show, and it feels as though we're no closer to it now than we were 10 years ago.

Still, it must be moving along in some fashion, because Ubisoft is still keeping it going.

In a statement shared with Eurogamer, a spokesperson said "the fantasy genre is underserved" within the open world adventure space, and it considers BG&E2 a "unique proposition".

That may well be, but from where we're sitting, it's vapourware until proven otherwise.
