If they need to put the PS5 into "low power mode" to run PS6 games on their new portable then how weak is their new portable? If the PS5 isn't as powerful as the PS6 then wouldn't the PS5 need to be in "high power mode" to play PS6 games, not low power mode?

If you took the PS5 innards right now and put them into a handheld by adding a battery and a screen how much would that portable cost? Now how much would it cost to miniaturize the innards of the yet to release PS6?

I'm calling it a PS5 Portable until I see it running PS6 games that the PS5 can't. So in a decade maybe.

Is that the cost of the home console, the portable, of is it assuming the PS6 is a hybrid like the Switch?

There are so many articles on here about a rumored PS6 portable and also PS6 prices but there is zero overlap between the 2 sets of articles.

Hardware is for games. If Sony is sitting on 2 or 3 PS6 exclusive games that cost a couple of hundred million each to make, then it NEEDS to sell the hardware to sell the games to recoup it's 1/2 Billion dollar expenditure. We're talking about the company that "knows generations" after all.

If however there are no big selling PS6 exclusives and it's just a better PS5 Pro than why bother?

I really miss when video gaming was about the games. It's just so much about that hardware now.🤑

I do appreciate the install base numbers and the rest of it. Since this is "retail" I'm assuming that means "physical", or at least what passes for it these days, and I feel like Xbox is more digital than physical in part b/c they're used to Gamepass. @8bitOG My kid went back to D2 last Tuesday or the Tuesday before maybe, them and a few of their friends, for 1 big last hurrah of some sorts b/c everything went free or on sale or something. I remember them making a big deal about it and playing it a lot since.

So that big D2 number may be related to something recent and not the norm. Marathon seems to be what it is though, which ain't much.

What he doesn't mention is historically the hardware has been a loss leader as they made the money back on game sales, then later PS+ subscriptions. So it's not like this is something totally unique or unheard of, it's just going back to the way things used to be.

I'm pretty sure they've done the math and whatever money they oise per console unit they expect to make up, and then some, on other ways. Sony isn't doing this as a charity for poor orphan children, they're planning on making more money later by losing some now.

@Th3solution Thanks. It does seem like they're always something going on with installations and downloads. I probably won't take your advice b/c I'm too lazy to take the extra step, but it would probably help a little bit.

I do think the PS5 OS does do a pretty good job at handling multiple tasks involving the SSD. If we were still running off of HDD I would take your advice, all of mine are loud, grundy and slow, but thankfully SSDs seem to have been built with multi-tasking in mind. And my 300 fiber optic speed, which may be slow compared to everyone running 1,000 these days, is still fast and consistent enough, to not feel like a hindrance.

If the discs gave me the option to install the entire game from an internet download rather than the disc I'd probably take it, that's how slow the disc installs feel. Buying or borrowing PS4 games to install a PS5 version is an option I'll take when I can. Might even pick up GTA 5 that way. Some day. 😂

That's a lot of options. I may read this page a few more times closer to the games release so I can start it that much sooner (after waiting for it to jnstall slowly from the disc. I'm still a disc guy for big AAA games like this.

I've currently burnt myself out on gacha playing Infinity Nikki, NTE and 7 Deadly Sins all at the same time when really nothing is going on in any of them. I'm so bored I borrowed Neir Automata Yorha edition from the library just to play a complete game. I'd probably enjoy it more if I hadn't played the remake version Stellar Blade. They're basically the same game.🤪

I was going to pick "all of the above" but the survey smartly added "standard version" so I went for $69.99US. But really, they're going to make so much money on dlc and what not they could probably give it away for free and still be rolling in dough. But the won't.

I'm gonna go but GTAV on the PS5 store for $20 so I can get the upgrade for free. I'll get 6 in another decade. 😁

@ShogunRok Played the demo for the new Granblue game coming out 7/9 (9/7) and it was a lot better than I expected. May even pay full price since I don't own any earlier versions and just the update alone is $30. My library has the original disc but I'm not paying $30 for dlc for a game I only borrowed. @themightyant Different game types should have different lengths. I play a lot of JRPG and those tend to be long. And I play a lot of platformers that tend to be shorter. But my brain still does $ per hour math and I never feel like paying the same amount of money for a 12 hour game and a 50 hour game. So I tend to borrow shorter games from the library and only buy longer games.

I bought most of the GoW games so far b/c it's a great series, and I'll probably buy this one if it's a 20 hour big adventure like 2018 and Ragnarok, but if it's 10-12 like the earlier games I’ll probably just borrow it if it’s $70, but I’d think about buying it for $50.

So that’s why I’ve been trying to figure out what type of game it is. I over think everything. 😂

Reading that it may be out early 2027 after they just showed it for the first time has me still thinking it will be short. But still plenty of time for them to show us more. Plenty.

I have 15 games on my Wishlist and none of them are on sale. Zero. As long as I've had a wishlist I can't ever remember none of them being on sale before, there's always 1 or 2.
