Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth went a little crazy with the minigames and side activities, and the quality varies of course, but one that everyone seems to adore is Queen's Blood.
The tactical card game has been a big hit among players, and it seems Square Enix likes it too, as it's set to make a return in the third game in the FF7 remake project.
Speaking to Polygon, director Naoki Hamaguchi talks about Queen's Blood, and how it'll be "enhanced" in the upcoming RPG.
"Queen’s Blood is a very popular and beloved minigame, and I believe a lot of people are still wanting something like that," he says. "I want to expand on Queen’s Blood so that we are enhancing it, and giving you a more powered-up version of it when you see that third installment… Queen’s Blood is still going to be available in the third installment. We just want to expand on it."

So, there you have it. Not only is the card game popular enough that it's coming back, it'll be expanded and enhanced beyond what's seen in Rebirth.
On the topic of minigames, Hamaguchi is asked about the snowboarding sequence, which will inevitably be part of the upcoming game.
"I’m afraid I can’t delve too much into the details, but we understand that it’s not going to be just a simple snowboarding minigame," he tells Polygon. "We want to make sure that it’s incorporated into the story to have that sort of connection with the theming of it."
He also comments that the game is "coming along very smoothly" and that the team is "tracking on time for the milestones we have set". While we don't know how far off the third game is, it really does sound like its development is going swimmingly thus far.

I never say this but I want a Queen’s Blood mobile app. I want to play it if I take a lunch break at work.
I'm glad to hear this. It's my favourite card game after Triple Triad.
A lot of ppl were hoping for like a Queens Blood DLC after Rebirth so this is cool to hear.
Queen's Blood is really cool, one of the best parts of Rebirth!!!
I liked the queens blood mini game. Will it let me keep all my cards or is it going to reset me back to 0? Would be nice if it would transfer.
@somnambulance Hey if Gwent got it's own spin off, then surely Queen's Blood could get one too
I don’t care much for mini-games in video games, but I was so addicted to this. I would love a standalone title, or as someone else mentioned, a mobile game.
I skipped this minigame every time i had the chance, i just don't have the patience for these card minigames, same with Gwent in Witcher 3 or the Triple Triad game in FF8. Strangely enough, i like Balatro, Slay The Spire and any deckbuild-roguelite game, but they're standalone games, so it makes sense to me. I think o just prefer to focus on the main game when playing stuff like FF7 or Witcher 3
@Oram77 I know some may disagree with me, buuuuut…
Queen’s Blood > Gwent
Square complains about how they don’t hit their financial targets, but a Queen’s Blood standalone is such obvious, easy (and likely lower budget to produce) money. Square, just take a win.
Queens blood was excellent. I rarely get into these side quest games but this really hooked me!
Please no. I gave up on Rebirth because of the forced minigames slowing the actual story to a crawl. When I got to Costa del Sol and was expected to do minigames for swimming outfits to progress the story, I couldn't take it any more and dropped it.
I like it when minigames are entirely optional in games. I liked triple triad, which broke ffviii but it wasn't forced upon me. Could have played the game without touching it.
YEEEES! I usually skip mini-games, but Queen's Blood was SO fun. Honestly I dug all of the mini games from Rebirth.
Why not just drop a mobile game for this and enhance it a bit futher?
Instead we get a gacha ever crisis that is slowly gonna be phased out
Not sure how well Queens Blood would work as a standalone game, it's great fun ingame, but if it became multiplayer I think there's a huge advantage going first which they'd have to sort out somehow.
Please just make it more like Remake and less like Rebirth
They can put whatever they want in it. As long they don’t force me to play it this time 🤣
Add Online Multiplayer to Queen’s Blood on Part 3
Good as it was one of the best things about Rebirth.
It was great in rebirth, including its storyline, which probably could have stood as an indie game all by itself, but I would prefer in part 3 if they just kept it as a card game without all of the lore and focused on the lore of the main storyline instead. They’re really going to have their hands full trying to tie this all up.
So have an optional tournament in each town, maybe even a global one, but no important story beats, just treat it like triple triad in FF8.
Let’s just hope whatever incompetent intern they had hand-picking the trophy list for the first two games gets replaced for the third entry. I can only imagine seeing
Win 1,000 games of Queen’s Blood in a row without losing a single round: Bronze
and immediately passing on this in favor of games with other, better designed lists.
I'm currently playing through Rebirth right now on PS5 Pro.
Usually, I'm not a fan of card/minigames built inside other games but, Queen's blood is fun. Every time I visit a new location. I always check to see if there are npc's to play against.
I'm glad to hear it will be available for part 3.
However, that war/battleship style board game with the polygon style PS1 graphics. I did not understand at all.
Super glad to hear this. I would play Queen's blood first before doing anything else in that region. Loved it and hope there is online queen's blood in the next one
I never like card games including the ones in FF like Tetra Master and Triple Triad. The good thing is it's optional.
Queen's Blood was alright, but I think I prefer the mythically obtuse tetra master.
Also think Gwent is still my favourite of all the RPG card games, but the actual Witcher version, not the standalone/ spin-offs.
God this was so ***** boring. I hate these kind off time wasters in games. Gwent, Queen's Blood all of them. Just play Poker or Pokemon in real life.
@Balaam_ Crikey, still obsessed with the trophy thing then eh.
I like and respect your opinions, both on here and pure xbox. But please, pretty please stop whining about trophy lists. It's really not important to anybody but you 😞
@cainhurst94 Las Vegas is notoriously rife with shiny hunters
@Michael2008ish that's just objectively not true. There is a whole community of people who are trophy hunters. Just because his concern, doesn't concern you, does not mean that he no longer has the right to voice his thoughts. I personally agree with him. Rebirth trophies are physically daunting for anyone who trophy hunts as a hobby or passion. And would love if part 3 dials it back slightly.
"Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth went a little crazy with the minigames and side activities" about 90% are optional but people act like you have to do them all to finish the game.
@JonnyAces hmm yeah ok. Some ppl like trophies for validation
The vast majority of us just like to play and enjoy games
