Re: Stellar Blade's Story Continues in Monstrous NIKKE: Goddess of Victory Crossover

rjejr

Shift Up making Sammy happy about gaming again after he had to watch that bland ILL trailer yesterday. πŸ˜‚

There is too much crossover going on in these 2 games for me to keep straight what is crossing over into each game. I enjoyed Stellar Blade, would play a sequel, but I'm passing on all of this. I'm having a hard enough time reminding myself that NIKKE has nothing to do with the Infinity Nikki game I'm playing.

Re: Round Up: What Was Announced at Summer Game Fest 2025?

rjejr

I'm impressed there were that many PS5 games, the show felt very PC gamer to me. I suppose most games these days are on both console and PC tho. Maybe I'll stick to Sony and Nintendo shows from here on out, skip the others. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Re: Switch 2 Has Mario Kart World, But You'll Soon Have All You Can Drift with Garfield Kart 2 on PS5

rjejr

@get2sammyb Ooh good one. Cheshire cat, tweedle Dee's & dum, mad hatter, mushrooms (if Nintendo doesn't sue them) making you bigger and smaller as you drive. Wow that would be great. They should pay you and thank you for that. So, it'll never happen. πŸ˜‚

Just looked and nothing I can find after this season13w/ Big Hero 6, which part 2 just started today and there may be a 3rd part, hard to tell. So anything is possible for 14. Who knows, maybe it will be good enough for you to write an article about. Will you write one if they shut down?πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Re: Reaction: Sony Finally Understands the Assignment with One of the Best State of Plays of the PS5 Era

rjejr

I thought it was a nice compliment to a previous Sony show where everything was brown and looked like Elden Ring. 1 of tye games was Elden Ring adjacent but there was also Tides of Annilation, Lies if P dlc, Clair Obscur and I think a couple of others. So I think compared to that this one had a lot going on.

I'm happy 007 wasn't 1st person view. Still not sure I'll play it, or much else in the SoP really besides Ghost 2, but at least now there's a chance I'll play it, if only for the music. I'm a huge fan.

Re: Switch 2 Has Mario Kart World, But You'll Soon Have All You Can Drift with Garfield Kart 2 on PS5

rjejr

@get2sammyb Well I suppose I can't argue with that. Their own website couldn't even be bothered to have a News item for Big Hero 6. Part 2 starts today. They mostly lost me when they stopped letting us get the season pass w/ multi-player earned currency, but they fully lost me when they started making seasons 2 or 3 parts. Oh and the Tron track is not great. And Big Hero 6 is too similar to the Incredible's track. They need to mix it up a bit more. Disney owns everything but no Stars Wars or Marvel. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Re: Horror Hit Phasmophobia Is Being Adapted for the Big Screen

Don't know what this game is so not excited for the movie but I wouldn't mind a game version of the Phantasm movie franchise. Would probably be 1st person which I don't like but being chased around by the Tall Man while I blow away jawas with a shotgun could be kinda fun.

Maybe there was one and I missed it? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Edit: Well it looks like someone started to try to make a game of it, but since this 1 article is all I can find I'm guessing it didn't get very far. Moving on...

Re: Switch 2 Has Mario Kart World, But You'll Soon Have All You Can Drift with Garfield Kart 2 on PS5

rjejr

@get2sammyb Just a reminder PS5 also has free to start Disney Speedstorm which updates with new racers and tracks every 12 weeks or so for the past 6 months but PS barely ever mentions it. News section doesn't have an update for a year now, June 2024. Maybe it isn't in the UK/EU? Or not enough skin?πŸ˜‚

Game has a lot going on, several multi-player offline and online options. I don't play it as much as I used to b/c it's too pay to play now, but the racing works.

Re: Elden Ring Nightreign Has No PS5 Pro Improvements At All

rjejr

I'd much rather From spend their time with improvements for the most people playing their game, like yesterday's single player changes, than something only a few people will notice.

If someone has a breakdown of the number of people playing this game and it's greater on PS5 Pro than base PS5 or PC then I'm willing to change to mind. Seems like a PC game to me.

It's not From's problem that Sony put out a $700 console for a select few. And if it's that important to Sony that Pro gets supported then they can just tell companies - you can't release on PS5 unless there is a separate PS5 Pro version. Just like MS does with Series S and Series X.

I see zero reason why From should feel obligated to make a PS5 Pro version. If you have a PS5 Pro and don't like it that way, don't play it. I feel like there are a bunch of Pro owners who have said "If you don't like From games b/c there is no easy mode then don't buy it, why should the dev change THEIR game just for you?"

*not all PS5 Pro owners, but more than 0.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS5 Predictions for Summer Game Fest 2025?

rjejr

Media Molecule is still a going entity after taking like 7 years to release Dreams? How is that possible?

So is this article and survey about the 3 hour Gamefest Friday night as the title implies or the 40 minute SoP tomorrow or for the whole week in total? It's not clear.

I had high hopes for the 3 hour show but w/ Sony doing it's own SoP tomorrow I'm not sure what's left for GK on Friday? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

And after the last Sony thing, w/ all those brown games that looked the same, admittedly they have since grown on me, I'm not sure what to think, or expect. I really just want Wolverine. Though I'm afraid of what we'll get now after Deadpool & Wolverine was so good. Not that.

I know enough about Ghost 2. I wouldn't mind a nice cheery colorful surprise but I have no idea what.

Re: State of Play Confirmed for 4th June, 40+ Minutes of PS5 Games

rjejr

@Neither_scene Well yeah sure, MP, BotW, TotK, probably some people playing XCX, PokΓ©mon Z to A, and whatever they have in their backlog. For a new not cheap console we should see some new not cheap games. If anyone is buying a $450 console just to play $10 Welcome Tour I really have to question their other life choices.

Re: Rumour: State of Play Announcement Imminent, PS5 Fans Speculate

rjejr

E3 was nice if only for us to mark our calendars for things not happening at E3, but at the same time. Will have to see if GK can manage that level of influence over the next few years. Nintendo has had a Direct every June since like 2017 but with a new console launch this week this may be the year that breaks that streak. Sure would be nice to know what our $450 console will be playing after Donkey Kong though. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Re: Fantasy Life Revival Now Well on Its Way to One Million Units

rjejr

@get2sammyb "Fantasy Life Revival"

Why title it this way? Why not "Fantasy Life i" or "Fantasy Life Sequel" of that's what you were going for. Unless this game was dead and then brought back. "Scalebound Revival" would make sense. I still think it could happen. Was the Fantasy Life game/series announced as done and some point so this fame was actually a revival of a dead series b/c I just keep reading it's a sequel. And I don't even think the previous game was all that long ago.

You know if you'd just put quotes around the game titles "Fantasy Life" revival now well... I wouldn't have these questions. For all I know it's called "Fantasy Life Revival" in the UK. The title of "Switch 2 Welcome Tour" in Japan is "Exhibition of Nintendo Switch 2 Secrets".πŸ˜‚

Re: The Witcher 3 Final Patch Confirmed, Adds Mods on PS5

rjejr

I remember my kid waiting for the PS5 version but then they never played it b/c they had kind of moved on to PC gaming by then. They are a big fan of mods so I can see them finally playing it once this comes out. Still don't think they'll like it though, but I won't discourage them.😁

Re: Elden Ring Nightreign (PS5) - A Ruthless Roguelike Reinvention of the Lands Between

rjejr

I don't play rogue likes but I did play and finish the GoW:R Valhalla dlc, which was free with the base game, and that's what this is sounding like to me, Elden Ring dlc. Maybe not free, sounds like a lot went into it, but the whole loop reads more like an add on to me than a stand alone game.

So I won't be playing it, but my college age kid and a couple of their friends, I think it's their old Destiny 2 crew, are looking forward to buying it tomorrow on Steam and playing all night. So there is some interest out there.

One thing that's always seemed true about PS comments, they never seem very big into online multi-player games. All I read for games like CoD and Fortnite is disdain. So maybe thus isn't for us. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@themightyant You read fourteen 800 - 1,000 page books during COVID!?!? Well I guess it has been going on for like 5 years now.😩

@DuncanDisorderly But not as depressing as, I don't read b/c it takes away time from my doomscrolling on Twitter, or, I don't read b/c after 9 1/2 yrs of grad school ending w/o my PhD I burned out on books. I figured I'd go w/ gaming for the room.😁

DuncanDisoderly would have been a great online name for Duncan McCloud of the clan McCloud if he would have been Irish rather than Scottish. 🀣

Re: PlayStation an Official Partner at Summer Game Fest

rjejr

Next week? Caught me off guard a bit.

So how does this thing work exactly? Is there 1 3 hour show like the game awards to watch or scattered stuff like E3 and all it's not E3 but E3 adjacent shows. I'm sure MS is doing it's own thing for Xbox, though with all the ports it's basically a 3rd party free for all now. And the usual rumors of Nintendo having a June Direct for the 9th yr in a row after Switch 2 launches.

I can't pay attention for an entire week, I need a schedule so I can highlight a thing or two. 😁

Re: The Last of Us Season 2's Strangest Scene Was Cut from the Game

rjejr

@themightyant Oops. Sorry to inform you about Wot, they announced it about a week ago. My wife is really mad, it's her favorite book series. My kid read the whole thing too. I don't read b/c it takes away from my gaming but I was enjoying the show well enough. My wife and kid told me nothing happens for 3 books about 8, 9, 10 and my wife told me the show was supposed to run only 7 or 8 seasons. We're still hoping someone else picks it up, Apple, HBO, Netflix, the usual.

Re: Reaction: There's Never Been a Better Time to Buy a PS5

rjejr

"And then looking further afield there’s upcoming software like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Marvel’s Wolverine, as well as a little game called GTA 6"

If you haven't bought a PS5 yet, after 5 years on the market, and you're doing it for those 3 games, 1 is still a year out, wouldn't be surprised if at least 1 of the other 2 doesn't release until 2027, then I'd say wait a year and hope for either a better sale or a good game bundle. Wolverine could get a themed console.

I don't see anything in May of 2025 that is making me think NOW is the time. These sales ain't all that.

Re: The Last of Us Season 2's Strangest Scene Was Cut from the Game

rjejr

@themightyant I don't know how far they are in production for next season besides the obvious - not far enough for the 2nd half of a season - but I'm expecting Lev's back story to change. ie be written out of the show. It is integral to the game, but not really a focus. Maybe they run away b/c "reasons".

So, he hasn't even started the basic writing it yet as of last month, so no actor for Lev yet.

https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/drama-shows/the-last-of-us-co-creator-hasnt-started-writing-season-3-but-is-champing-at-the-bit-to-get-back-to-the-keyboard/

Wow. Even worse. Four seasons. He's really talking about dragging Abbey out for an entire season before having another season, probably not until 2029, to finish the game. Ugh.

https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/sci-fi-shows/the-last-of-us-season-3-release-date-plot-cast-news/

True story. I wasn't even going to watch this season b/c I didn't like the game all that much. But I do like and watch everything Geoffrey Wright is in b/c of his screen presence. So I figured might as well, for morbid curiosity, and I wanted to see the bar fight as rambled on about above. But another 2 seasons. Or really 3 parts of 1 season. OK 2 parts, the end is its own story arc, theater ends things well enough.

My family just finished watching The Wheel of Time season 3 days before they announced the cancelation. Now this drags on for ever. Maybe we should just stick to movies.😩

Re: Dragon Quest 12 Still in Limbo as Another Dragon Quest Day Has Nothing to Show

rjejr

@greengecko007 Thanks for the reply. Inspired me to do some digging. After the first few yearly editions, seems like every game series was close to yearly back then, the past 4 or 5 DQ games have been about 5 years apart. Now DQ10 seems like some weird online thing they made in 2012, 3 years after DQ9 in 2009, and 5/6 years before DD11 in 2017/18.

And it's now been 7 years since 2018. COVID was in there, have to account for that, but it's still been 7 years, which seems like a lot. Not only hasn't it released in 7 years, but we haven't seen anything. And w/ a game series thus big I'm thinking at least a full year before reveal trailer and release.

So once again I'm worried they're mucking it up. Hopefully soon.

Re: The Order 1886 Could Have Been a Big Trilogy of PlayStation Games

rjejr

It's funny. When I first saw the trailer for Expedition 33: Clair Obscur this was the first game that came to mind. A combination of the dark graphics, time period setting and number in the title. I really had no interest at all in Clair Obscur after that.

Fortunately my kid got Clair Obscur on Gamepass and it's great. Nothing really similar at all between the 2 games except maybe their clothing. The Order was OK, think I paid $5 for it on sale, but Clair Obscur is a masterpiece. My first impression was so wrong. πŸ˜‚

Re: The Last of Us Season 2's Strangest Scene Was Cut from the Game

rjejr

@themightyant "My friends and family who haven't played the game don't have the same complaints and most are really enjoying it."

My 2 kids have enjoyed it as well, but the real question is are people going to enjoy waiting 2 years to then spend 3 or 4 episodes with only Abbey before we get back to the theater? I think the Complete DVD boxsets for the entire series are not going to sell very well.

And that's before I even bring up Lev. @Pushsquare may close the comments for every episode next season. Unless an Executive Order bans him from the show. 😝

Re: The Last of Us Season 2's Strangest Scene Was Cut from the Game

rjejr

That scene felt so shoehorned in, in a visibly pathetic attempt to tie the 2 stories together. Even if I hadn't played the game I still would have been "But why, that makes no sense." I mean does she really get all the way to that island, after falling overboard, then to the aquarium, then back to the theater w/ Jessie and Tommy while it's still night? Even for the game it was a stretch, but at least she didn't detour to an island way off in the distance.

They should have replaced that scene w/ the bar fight w/ the infected scene. That one was pretty wild in the game and I was looking forward to how they were going to pull it off. But I guess they used up their infected budget in the warehouse w/ Jessie so no more after that.

"The episode cuts as Abby fires her weapon,"

The episode cuts after the screen goes black and we hear a gunshot, as Tony Sopranos "shoots first" and saves himself from his unknown assailant. πŸ˜‚

Come on. My kid didn't even play the game and knew exactly who's gunshot that was. Anyone who has ever watched any TV show, movie, or read a book knows exactly who's gunshot that was. There are no new stories.

And it should have ended there. When your very short 7 episode season, series for you blokes, ends with "Day 1" on the screen, well that isn't an ending of anything now is it. Should have just left it in the theater in the darkness.

As we discussed in our house on numerous occasions, the 2 storylines should have run concurrently, show should have been a season series long 10 episodes, you know like a lot of tv shows are, alternating the characters days. Season 2 could have been a 7 episode return to Jackson and last part of the game.

But we don't think they wanted to do that b/c it would work better than the game and some of the game's criticism would have appeared justified. So basically the show runners are trolling us w/ this poorly paced 7 episode garbage, then making us wait a year or probably 2 for the next 4 episodes to finish the story arc, (day 1, day 2, all of Abbey's flashback scenes, day 3) and then the 3rd season will begin. It's stupid.

Re: HBO's The Last of Us Sees a Dramatic Decline in Season 2 Finale Viewers

rjejr

As an old US person who was not out partying Sunday night I can say without a doubt there are people who were. This is the start of summer weekend and Sunday night was time to party.

Not saying if the show hadn't been well received people wouldn't have made more of an effort but after that entirely flashback previous episode why make any effort.

As some already said, shows used to skip that weekend b/c they knew no one was watching,

That said. Season 3 may be hurting week in and week out regardless of the day and date. Screw this wait.

Re: Very Fittingly, Expedition 33 Has Sold 3.3 Million Copies in 33 Days

rjejr

Watching my kid play it on Gamepass but I may buy it some day to play myself on PS5 b/c it's that interesting. Also my kid is playing on Expert w/ 99 points in luck or something ridiculous to get the crit rate up and I'm very curious how my normal play through w/ all my points spread between health and defense would go. In 2 or 3 years when I've completely forgotten it all.

Re: PS5 Days of Play Sales Live from 28th May, Call of Duty Bundle Revealed

I'm going to check the prices on Astrobot and Lego Horizon and then probably still not buy them b/c they'll still be too much. Then half that price, whatever it is now, during Black Friday Month, so I'll probably pick them up then as gifts.

I have Lego Horizon in my cart on Amazon, it's already been $39.99, which I'm expecting it to be in this sale. Same for Astrobot. But I'll check.

Re: PS5, PC Live Service Fairgames Is a 'Super Clunky' Cross Between Fortnite and The Division

rjejr

@EfYI Well that makes me feel better I think. 😁 I suppose I have paid for pron, Suicide Girls membership, despite there being more than enough of it out there for free, b/c I wanted to support the women, so to each their own. I wouldn't call it paywalled though, any more than I would say any other paid subscription service like Only Fans, PS+, Netflix, etc. is paywalled, I would just say it's a subscription service, and I would assume most people would know a subscription service is paid. Well besides the couple I currently have for free b/c trials but that's another story.

I'm old too, 60 in <60days, and the only time I use toddler for anyone over 2 is for the temper tantrum throwing current terrible 2s toddler POTUS. 😝 Anyone under 30 I correctly call kid. 😎

Re: PS5, PC Live Service Fairgames Is a 'Super Clunky' Cross Between Fortnite and The Division

@Fishmasterflex96 Hey thanks. I can actually live with that. Paying is optional seems a fair trade-off for people who want to support the creators.πŸ‘

@EfYI I read your comment, twice, and found zero good reasons to pay to listen to that podcast. πŸ˜‚

For the record I'm not opposed to podcasts, whatever people want to do is fine by me, the more options the better, nor am I opposed to people paying for things, like many people do here to help keep this site running, but to see the words paywalled and podcast together, well that's just weird. Though so is calling college graduates toddlers.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Explain to my why I should ever play a single player game day 1? Well beyond my own mortality, which admittedly has been weighing on me of late. 😩

Still waiting for the Sea of Stars dlc to release, soon I think. Maybe it won't get any other updates but some games do when big dlc like this drops.

Re: Elden Ring Will Get Its A24 Movie Adaptation, with Alex Garland in the Director's Seat

rjejr

From my NL post b/c I saw it there first and no one has really made the same points so why not?

Civil War was... not as advertised. Should have been called "My Boring Life as a Photo Journalist". Zzzzz
.
Movie plot synopsis:

Man wakes up alone in a cave.
Man walks a bit, finds a man w/ a sword.
Sword man says "I am your tutorial."
Sword man 1 hit kills recently awakened and very confused man.
Game Over.
The End.
Credits roll.

Or, for the sake of the movie, man survives tutorial, takes the magic sword, and kills everything along the way to the Erdtree, burns it to the ground, make up random story lore involving hands and maidens along the way.

I think Guielrmo Del Toro could do it justice, like an adult "Pan's Labrynth", with an emphasis on the weird creatures, less on the story.

Though not even he can save that flying whale creature final boss. That will 100% not be in the movie.πŸ˜‚

Re: Talking Point: Does Sony Really Need Some Kind of Summer Showcase?

rjejr

I think they should. The last show had a bunch of games in it that looked pretty good - Tides of Annilation, Clair Obscur, Lies of P Overture - and a couple of games that looked like those 3, and maybe even a couple that didn't. Point is besides their big AAA games like Wolverine that are in seriously short supply they still have games like those, and the Returnal sequel not a sequel. And a big summer showcase is a good time to tell people what is coming up.

I mean if they don't have enough games coming up to put on a decent show just get out of the business.

Switch 2 will be getting all the headlines this summer, Sony should make a point of showing what they got. Which better be something.

@CielloArc "No reason to have an ongoing GP subscription if you don't own an Xbox."

Counterpoint. No reason to own an Xbox if you have Gamepass on PC. I'm watching my kid play Clair Obscur on their laptop now hooked up to our TV. With our PS5 controller. Technology works sometimes.

My wife was offered a free Xbox from her job for her 10 year anniversary and we don't want it. Hoping maybe HR can offer to find her a Switch 2 instead. Apparently can't do cash b/c tax implications.πŸ€‘
