Thanks to years of leaks and rumours, we knew it was coming — but Horizon Hunters Gathering still feels like a surprise now that it's been made official.
This is Sony's co-op spin on the Horizon franchise, plopping up to three players in the shoes of premade hunters, each with their own weapons and abilities.
It goes without saying that this is a project that managed to survive Sony's live service culling; it's believed to have been in development for at least a few years at this point.
And at a glance, the budget is there. The most immediately striking thing about Hunters Gathering is its art style, which differs greatly from what we're used to with Aloy's single player adventures.
It opts for a cartoonish look kitted out with really bright colours and some very impressive animation, but these visuals are already dividing opinion to an extreme degree, based on what we've been reading online — and it's also clear that some PlayStation fans are still dead against any kind of live service push.
