Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

solocapers

From a pr perspective Sony have been an utter shambles this time going so far as Microsoft having pops about smart delivery showing how the tables have turned.

Sony have been slow, not very consumer friendly re their Spiderman fiasco and we believe in gens BS and have been expecting blind faith from consumers to keep things chugging along whereas Microsoft have been largely upfront, consumer friendly with gamepass, next gen free upgrades and have seem agile.

Yes people will scoff at mentioning Jim Ryan but comparing Andrew House' leadership compared to how the organisation is behaving now is night and day.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

For those saying people are being entitled for expecting or atleast hoping for a free upgrade then all I can say is this. If Microsoft, cdpr and other devs are giving updates to their titles then a little goodwill from Sony would be nice.

Package and lock the upgrade in with Miles Morales for free. Stick a one time code in the box so that if you have Spiderman ps4 then you get a free upgrade. That'll maybe pull in people who wouldn't have been interested in Miles' story and creates some good press with it.

For those defending Sony effectively charging 20 quid extra keep in mind that the upgraded content in the Spiderman game is going to be more or less the same content that's in Miles Morales.. taking out the story and cutscenes of course. It's the same city, traffic and NPC's for the most part. So the hard work being described is mostly content they've already created and used for Miles.

The extra effort that is being defended is largely copy and paste work from what's in Miles Morales. It's ridiculous imo that they are trying to slap a £20 price tag on it.

Re: Sony Confirms Spider-Man PS5 Remaster Is Not a Free Upgrade

@Loftimus it's not really when cdpr are updating the Witcher for free and let's be honest here..

A huge amount of assets in miles Morales will be reused Spiderman assets and vice versa. I'd happily pay for miles Morales with the provisio I don't need to pay to get Spiderman updated if they're planning on giving it away. Would have saved themselves aggro by just completely ignoring Spiderman.

Re: PS5 Won't Play PS3, PS2, or PS1 Games

PS3 sure I can understand BC not being feasible due to the architecture.. PS1 and PS2?

No great reason imo.. unless its to lock security down with potential exploits being possible via the emulation.

Am I up in arms about it..no but it would have been pretty sweet.

Ahh well.

Re: Soapbox: Games As a Service Should Be Embraced, Not Misunderstood

I would have agreed a few years ago to an extent, GTA online was beginning to show what would end up happening on a large scale. So now no way...no chance and I'm appalled you think overall GaaS is a good thing.

GaaS are largely now..note largely not completely... a predatory way to entice money out of customers.

GaaS worked relatively ok for dlc. Keeping in mind publishers then even kept back content locked on the disc day1 which then was clear as hell as predatory but that's largely forgotten.

Fast forward to modern times and developers are removing content from games then forcing players to cough up more money to get new content see: Destiny.

The only decent GaaS and keeping in mind that definition has largely been far removed from its original meaning is from games like the Witcher 3 which provide clear brand new content.

Attempting to pigeon hole both DLC like that and stuff like Fortnite skins is ridiculous and shows an elementary level understanding of modern GaaS.

Yes devs should be paid for their work but the reason devs and publishers went down this route isn't to make better games for you and me. It's to make easier money.

It's all about keeping you hooked, keeping stuff just slightly out of reach with that tempting few quid to get that item or it's in its simplest, most blatant form gambling mechanics which is nothing short of predatory and downright morally wrong.

@jess3a3 I'm not here to defend Fortnite here I've played about 5 minutes then walked away... Kinda flew over my head in the same way as tik tok. Kids these days huh?

I just can't cant see where the depth is in fall guys to be a multi year game holding that kind of enthusiasm. It's fun but maybe it's just me... I need a little more substance..

Take what I say with a pinch of salt though.

Re: There's Been a Big Scandal About Whether PS5 Can Run Games in 4K

If checkerboarding 2.0 or some kind of secret sauce like dlss is implemented from amd that we've yet to learn then it really doesn't matter all that much.

This push for pure pixel count that some want is pointless to an extent and is largely wasteful on resources.

Similar to how 95% of folk don't care about mp3 vs flac as an audio source.

Re: As the PS Plus Debate Rages, Sony Registers Record Subscribers

solocapers

They really should now think about bundling ps plus and ps now together.

Ps plus games for a while have been very much hit and miss.. Just go full in with ps now and be done with it.

Its a bit of a stretch to say Ms are getting rid of gold. They're merely repackaging it to get more people on Xcloud.

Re: PS5 UI Feature Sets Tongues Wagging Once More

Wasn't all this alluded to a good while back anyway?

Its progress but in some ways similar to the join friend feature already implemented on ps4 but could be say.. Get straight back to a career mode loading the latest save etc.

Or join mp on your favourite mode on cod etc.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Wants to See 15 Hour AAA Titles Return

solocapers

I hate the argument for tightening the belt be it.. Upping the cost of a game or making games shorter and that games cost the same as they did 20 years ago when games regularly beat previous sales and make record profits. Certainly in the AAA space.

No one says a AAA game needs to be 60 hours long.. See most Nintendo games for case and point.. You can easily rattle through most of their AAA games in 15 hours and no one cares.. Simply because they're very good.

The simple fact is, if games companies can't sell enough copies to break even or make profit then the development costs were far exceeding the scope of the game or the game simply isn't very good in the first place.

Publishers like ubisoft justify their games being 60 hour + slogs simply because they're padded out to high heaven.

A good game is a good game regardless of the length of it.
