@The_ghostmen what am I wrong about? I didn't say bluesky will get blocked. I said it can be but would be one of the ones not named early if it was as it's simply not popular enough to name initially.
I expect it to be the most poorly moderated platforms that get the chop and rightly so. The big 3 of social media (Facebook, X and tiktok) are completely out of control and are essentially unmoderated. They're a cancer to society. No two ways about it.
I haven't used Bluesky but from what I've heard it's night and day compared to X so that maybe explains why it's not been culled in Australia.
The list given by the Gov is the most popular apps that'll be impacted. Bluesky, threads, telegram and signal don't have the penetration to be worth mentioning at this stage as most parents have probably not even heard of them.
Naming the most popular social media like YouTube, Facebook etc will get parents attention.
Expect that initial list to grow as you get closer to the actual launch time.
You are talking definitively and hyperbolically on what's being banned and more importantly for the context of this discussion, whats not being banned.
The gov have confirmed select, common apps which will be impacted to give a taste of what's to come. The most common apps if you will which will be 100% impacted.
To be unambiguous; they've not said telegram and signal are safe from the chop and have said that they're in the phase of gathering data and looking at Australia before giving a complete day 1 list. Expect other apps like threads to get the chop as Australia have done so.
Re: Roblox, it will have to follow guidelines which means adults cant just start talking to kids also as they've said online gaming will not be removed.
Sony, Microsoft and Apple clearly seen this coming a mile off given their recent age verification checks.
@mrbone Full fat YouTube will not be available at all. YouTube kids however will.
Im glad the government are trying something. The toxicity online is damaging to society and unfortunately, for a substantial amount of kids, their parents cannot be trusted to monitor their activities and set boundaries.
For a lot of parents around my age, we grew up in the wild west of the internet where sure, there was bad things going on but it was somewhat contained and certainly not algorithmically shovelled down your throat..
Yes, a mate could send t*bgirl or live leak videos which especially around the time of incidents like ken bigley wasn't exactly nice to watch but with tiktok, Facebook and X steering you towards content and sending more and more of that content to you as it creates a loopback is nothing short of damaging to kids. It's literally shaping their view point on the world.
Truthfully, we'd be better off with a blanket ban both for kids and adults.
"Not everyone buys a £1000 mobile phone every 2 year. Most people are fine with cheap sub-£400 Chinese smartphones or the smartphones from last generation."
Totally get that but at the same time you don't replace a console every 2 years either which really was the point I was making.
Those that want to jump from PS5 to PS6 would have that option to soften the financial outlay and regardless i'd expect a fairly substantial crossgen again anyway.
I mean, the price of steaming subscriptions (along with buying the games to stream as there's little chance Sony goes down a day 1 release for streaming subscriptions) long term will undoubtedly cost more than buying a console outright so £1000 or not you are going to be paying that so that doesn't mean suddenly £1000 should be a breaking point for gamers.
The easy solution to this is for Sony to go down the mobile contract route for those that cant afford the outlay to pay up a console over 2/3/4 years if people want to pay it up.
Millions survive buying £1000+ mobile phones every 2 years so what's different paying £1000 every 5-7 years for a console?
There's people obsessed with pushing this streaming future and FTTP or not, latency is always going to be a thing that will put demographics off and a decent proportion would rather have hardware in their own house.
A lower price for certain users to tempt you to buy I can just about stomach. A "just for you" offer if you will.
A higher price logged IN vs casually looking when logged out is disgraceful imo.
That suggests an algorithm that can guess what game you might be interested in and jacking up the price knowing you are likely to proceed. That kind of predatory behaviour leaves a really bad taste.
If you are crying out for an update then PS5 pro is the clear option for now if you don't already have one - PSSR 2.0 coming out this year will hopefully give those who want a bump an uplift.
There's no real sensible option for a PS6 at the moment given the perfect storm of issues
PS5 launched during, what was an unprecedented time, causing the gen to kick off slowly
Big, first party devs haven't released a new game/IP this gen still.
RAM prices are through the roof which will massively impact the cost of any new console.
Peoples wages are not keeping up with cost of living.
Yea I've absolutely zero complaints about not getting credits. First.. we've had years of free updates and it's super easy to get loads of credits in the first place.
Sure, if you want every car in the game its a near impossible task but 750k credits isn't going to make a difference trying to collect all the 20m cars in the first place.
I'd much rather not have some credits and get all the last few years of updates without needing to put my hands in my pocket.
“ is it going to be able to match Sony’s subsidised hardware costs?”
Sony hasn’t subsidised hardware since early in the ps4 lifecycle so im a little confused with that repeated claim. You might want to check earlier articles because that info was posted here. Numerous times.
I get opinions are personal and everyone's entitled to one but that's a wild take by nearly every metric. I suggest a name change to imalwayswrong
Jokes aside. Every game it has its faults, GTA has its standout fault with its shooting mechanics and sandbox games are inherently more difficult to control but, compared to its peers with a similar scope - its head and shoulders above the rest.
@MARl0 @MJF the literal definition of a remake is not the same game/movie just updated visually.
A remake is updated visuals, and can include changes to the story etc.
My take isn't "dumb" as you put it. You clearly don't understand the word remake.
Here's the first of many definitions of a remake:
"A game remake is a new version of an existing game, typically built from the ground up with updated graphics, gameplay, and sometimes story elements, while still retaining the core identity of the original. It's essentially a reimagining of the original game, often to bring it up to modern standards and appeal to both new and old players. "
@Glorioso Its more than just alive and still very active for a 3 year old game.
I think on the last set of Time Trials (which last usually 2 weeks) around 200k players placed a time and there's plenty who don't even bother with the time trails and just play offline - so to speak - or just do daily's or Sport mode.
@Northern_munkey yea I totally get it. It's a shame cause the triggers are really good on a dualsense and gives good immersion for ABS kicking in it's just the more hardcore Sims are just too twitchy with a pad using sticks.
@Northern_munkey yes I do, used to play iRacing and GT with a wheel but with limited time I now mostly play GT7 on a pad so the rig is folded up in a cupboard.
Fwiw I used to play GTR2 on pc with a controller so it's possible
@Keyblade-Dan there is unfortunately for the iconic PS1 launcher "Sony computer entertainment" bit anyway as that's part of the ps5 boot process and would require different firmware from the base to remove it if users didn't like it and wanted to go back to the default launcher.
There's no way you can pick and choose that at a whim. It's baked in to the firmware update released a day or so ago.
There's no reason however, not to keep the themes as they run at "run time' so can be changed at user discretion.
@Mustoe That's good that you are sticking to your principles but the online requirement was needed as part of the deal for the FIA stuff if you believe what was behind the reasoning and you are missing out on a good GT game because of something that has little effect in reality.
Its not ideal if you are ever without internet but it is what it is.
But all the power to you for sticking to your guns.

70 quid, with a special edition that's around £100 that packs in GTA$ for when that launches and some single player cars.

"What we can confirm, at least at launch, is that the remake mostly runs exactly as you’d want it to."
DF seems to suggest otherwise with a worse resolution on PS5 pro AND generally worse frame rate.
Also worth mentioning, neither console hit their target frame-rate regardless of mode with any kind of regularity either.
Hopefully patches sort out the performance issues but 40fps when targeting 60 isn't great.
Regardless, I will be buying it day1

Maybe it's not the burnout of ps ports.
It's maybe the sequels mentioned are just more of the same and have lost the wow and pull factor the originals had.
I personally felt both Ragnarok and HFW were both excellent sequels but they just lacked the charm of the first titles.
Bear way to put it was that they felt like ubisoft games. Full of padding.
Both were a slog end game.

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?
Target 60 but not essential for some games.
Some slower paced games play perfectly fine at 30. Racing games and shooters HAVE to be 60.
Oddly enough FF7 Rebirth, for a fast paced game plays brilliantly at 30. So much so that I've sacrificed the framerate for the higher res.
