Out of all recent big games HFW suffers quite badly from the run of the mill open world bugs I've found.
Animations on traversal glitching when climbing unsuitable spots. General scenery glitching, very noticeable on cloth roofs on settlements as they blow in the wind with threats popping in and out of existence. The same bug from HZD when cut scenes switch there's visible pop-in and stutters incidentally missing from Death Stranding
Over all its a great game so far but it's probably a few months from being the finished article.
Eurogamer and a few others seem to be rather critical on the story.
Dunno why but it seems believable as it takes the same arc as Guerrilla's previous games and it seems like they've not really fixed the issues with the previous game due to them not being groundbreakers. More copy and pasting other ideas and turning it in to a bit of a mish-mash of well executed things but not coherent.
@RevGaming Yea in terms of the Sport side of the multiplayer experience it is.
Keep in mind I'm sure there's big prizes involved and they've done GT Academy stuff in the past you can see why they want to keep it as secure as they can without getting bogged down with reports coming in all the time.
If you liked GT games in the past you'll love this I suspect.
@RevGaming Well first of all, the FIA made it a requirement to host the GT Sport championships.
Banning is easier said than done. First, you need the manpower to determine who's cheating and who isn't, theres no perfect anti-cheat system so things can slip through the net rather easy. With the championships especially, you cant really watch every race to weed out cheaters if you leave the system somewhat open. Second, you get salty people reporting, simply because they got beat, further wasting resources.
If GT went down the iRacing/subscription model then fine, you can afford that man power but its a one time buy so it leaves the options rather limited.
The amount of people on GTAO with money cheats on all platforms that goes under the radar is ridiculous and that's before you even mention the state the PS3/PC version was/is in with hacks. The PS4 version seems ok from what I can tell but even then you sometimes see reports of people using god mode hacks etc.
Horizon and GoW are frivolous points, they're ONLY single player games, theres no reason to do anything different with them.
PD along with the FIA have made the decision that to make sure the online component of GT Sport/7 is as secure as possible then the saves stay online.
Is it fair on those who only play single player? No, not really but it is what it is.
With regards to the online only DRM, I suspect when the servers are shuttered, PD will/should push out a patch to keep the saves local.
Im sure they done something similar to that with GT 5 - see wiki
"On July 21 another patch (v2.17) was released, which removed the online requirement for installing the downloadable content after the servers went offline."
@RevGaming The always online portion is to stop cheaters modifying save files/car files with jailbroken ps4's and in the future no doubt, PS5 and theres a reason why that also impacts the single player experience.
It would be nice if this were not a thing for those who will only play single player and if you play online then you have to download car parameters on starting an online race or something along those lines but then again, its easy enough for cheaters to set symbolic links from the dodgy data to the default data to get around that leaving it essentially "online only"
The only workaround for that would be to launch as two separate games which is probably more hassle.
The comment on GT now being a multiplayer game and not single player is a bit of a nonsense though with the focus again being single player with Sport mode obviously there but kept firmly to the side.
@TotallySpectacul there's a difference between going first class and standard so that analogy is crap and going to an early movie showing doesn't charge you more for the privilege either.
There's better ways to reward keen users for early access such as draws etc.
Literally paying money to play a game 3 days early is a tragic cash grab whatever way you look at it.
I agree 10 quid isn't much but it's the principle.
For all the moaning about shark cards if you grind it a bit (and are half way competent at racing I've found) you can earn enough money to get everything, near enough with ease.
I have roughly 30m in the bank and 4 garages filled with more or less all the best cars per class in game.
The constant free updates to online have made it worthwhile for a night every few weeks/months to jump back in.
I'm guessing it'll be around £20 for the GTAOnline standalone.. those upgrades should be worth it tbf.
Had this pre ordered for what feels like a long time now.
Very much looking forward to this.
For those complaining about 30 mins: @bamozzy
5 to 10 mins will be showing a replay in car then trackside. That's a given.
5 mins will be explaining the new FIA season which will no doubt start within the first month or 2 of release.
The other 15/20 will no doubt be showcasing new and returning tracks, car brands new to GT, day/night cycle, updated physics and weather systems. Not to mention a deeper dive in to the menus and that.
30 mins isn't all that when you think about it. It might just seem like once you've seen a car youve seen them all but not really.
You are massively oversimplifying because you probably aren't that keen on racing games.
You can say the exact same for an open world RPG.
Basic jist of the story. Go from point a to point b doing missions. Find collectibles. Here's some enemies. Fin. Within 5 minutes.
@Medic_Alert "Build your hardware around the games you want to make and not what people think you should do because engines now are so so scalable and the diminishing returns are real."
Nintendo execs are sitting there reading this with a smug grin on their faces.
@Stoffinator Epic's whole business model (with the Unreal Engine anyway) is to be on every platform as a tool for developers.
Buying out Epic makes no sense as you lose its value by making it exclusive. Not to mention Epic's only big IP is really the Unreal series (which they've left to rot ) Fortnite and the Unreal Engine.
The reason Microsoft is buying out publishers is to make them exclusive to Gamepass.
EA makes no sense for anyone since the sports rights are generally agreed on the basis of being multiplatform.. Thats why they push out the half baked FIFA on the switch.
Take 2 (although they have a similar problem as above with 2k games), Ubisoft, Square and Sega are the 4 big targets that'll be looking over their shoulder from a buyout.
Cant say I am, haven't bought an Activision game in years however CoD is year for year the biggest seller or atleast in top 3 so its gonna hurt Sony's bottom end.
My big worry is a follow up buy either S.E or Sega. That'll probably be the turning point for me.
@uptownsoul Its completely free up to level 40 or so as you said.. however if you tried the beta from years ago you'll be locked out of it as I am. Which is really annoying as the original version of the game is completely different to how it is now so i'll never get the chance to really play it.
Further to that, its a monthly subscription which is around 8 quid a month I believe.
The "journalist" and I use that term loosely on twitter who is claiming credit for breaking this "story" is a bit of an embarrassment and should have a read before posting nonsense. You'd think folk who post this stuff for a living would actually read what stories they share.
I seriously don't understand why some are miffed that Sony are continuing to make PS4's. Not everyone can afford a PS5, there's not enough around and believe it or not, theres still plenty of PS4 releases on the horizon.
As said above 1 million is not a lot and personally i'd be expecting PS4's to be manufactured till the tail end of 2023 to be perfectly honest.
Its the same set of mouth breathers that moan about old PS4 games going to PC.
Cretins with nothing to do but get angry on the internet.
@get2sammyb I'm fully aware it's not likely to happen and have made peace with it. If it were Microsoft I genuinely think they'd find a solution.
I often feel like Sony don't really care about that kinda thing.
In terms of tracking why couldn't they track the controller? The headset has multiple cameras supposedly for tracking the new vr2 controllers.
They can use that along with gyro and accelerometer data to track the dual sense along with the light bar on the touchpad? Its literally the same way the original works and I'm sure there's a reason for keeping light bar other than it being a player identifier.
If the game sporadically leaves notes for a bit of world building, such as TLOU then i'll read them or if they leave clues for loot which you'd otherwise miss.
If they're all over the shop and they're clearly added as filler as they commonly are on open-world games that are already filled with nonsense collectibles and such then I wont bother as they're usually just padding to simply make the game longer and add little if anything to the narrative.
For open-world games I think I prefer tape collectibles as you can listen while you explore.
@Milktastrophe Other than the odd rare occasion such as playing non mixed PS4/PS5 MP modes why would you want to? Not many games that perform worse surely?

Since Covid hit and home working, I've been playing PS3 and PS4 games on my laptop while "working" in the spare room and have rare issues - usually caused if my Mrs is off and watching Netflix, and thats off a 30/10MB line so its understandable.
When was the last time you tried? Its much improved over the last few years. My only gripe is the 10 min auto kick when im actually doing some work

I know I'm not gonna complete HFW or even get started on Elden Ring but as soon as it strikes midnight GT7 will be getting launched.
Cannot wait. What a 4 week period for games.
Re: EA Sports Hints FIFA Has Been an Impediment As It Looks Set to Break Ties
EA talking about new modes etc and FIFA hampering them. Good.
Football is 11 a side. Men's, women's. Sure 5 a side but ultimately people just want to play their favourite team/players.
EA are only looking for new ways to monetise whatever football game they produce.
The sooner Konami sort eFootball the better.

The general rule of thumb is a 30% buy fee on a company to buy it out.
EA is not going to Sony that's for sure.
Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover
@Stoffinator because Sony, to buy EA would need to do a leveraged buy out which is inherently dangerous.
Sonys free cash flow is around 20bn I believe so they'd need to effectively mortgage themselves.
Its a much bigger risk when Microsoft has piles of money to burn.
Square or Sega is more affordable.

GG Square-Enix. Thats some turnaround from the sorry state it was originally in.
CDPR.. take note.

Its clearly the PS4 - PS5 downclock.
Re: Reaction: Can We Chill Out About Sony's Commitment to PS4, Please?
@Shepherd_Tallon @get2sammyb To me anyway, and im absolutely no expert on patents just to be clear.
That reads like its the patent on how PS5 handles PS4 games - dropping PS5's CPU, GPU speed and memory allocation to mimic PS4.
Not mimicking older, completely different, architectures such as PS1, PS2 and PS3.
The "journalist" that started this, he sure as hell cant read.

Re: PUBG: Battlegrounds Is Now Available for Free on PS4
PUBG was pretty good on the PC when it released.
A more "grown up" BR game. However, from what I remember the PS4 version was really poor and unoptimized.
I wonder if thats changed? Any chance of a retrospective look now its went F2P @Quintumply
Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?
Its a difficult one to answer in all honesty and depends totally on the game.
Some 40 hour + games that have an engrossing story are great and you almost wish they don't end.
Some run out of interesting things to say and outstay their welcome after 10-20 hours and try to keep things going with needless padding.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 408
Got Death Stranding Directors Cut during the week.
I love a bit of Kojima mentalness but he's went on a bit of an acid trip with this one.
Still.. intriguing game so far so will keep cracking on with it. The baby crying via the controller speaker is rather unsettling.

Re: Nothing to Announce on PSVR2 Backwards Compatibility, Says Sony
I dont see how it wont work with the new controllers vs the move controllers
easier said than done but surely to god they can create an API that converts the PSVR2 move controller inputs to mimic the move controllers API.
Re: Soapbox: Sony's Bet on PSVR2 Is Brave and That's a Brilliant Thing
I seen those tweets @get2sammyb if its the ones I was thinking about.
Mentioning 5m PSVR sales were rubbish etc. For a gaming journalist you'd think he'd be more excited about innovation.
Kinda funny how someone pointed out he was excited about some xbox crossover with some crappy non gaming related company.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Read All the Crap in Games?
Really depends on how much there is.

@get2sammyb Yea, I think I'm at around 150 hours on FIFA 22 already and I cant even say I'm actually enjoying it for the right reasons.
I spend most of my time raging at inhuman keepers saving everything and then my defenders splitting like Moses has arrived.
Its the carrot dangling in FUT thats got me and its not healthy. Can see why poor saps end up throwing money at it trying to 'chase the losses'
