UK retailer GAME sold through its initial allocation of PlayStation 5 consoles, but should it get any more stock over the coming days, you’ll now have to pay an additional £9.99 delivery fee. This is despite the company previously promoting its free delivery policy.
It’s worth noting that the alteration is not retroactive, so if you already managed to secure a PS5 pre-order through the retailer, then you won’t have to pay extra. It will apply to any future PS5 pre-orders, however – as well as the Xbox Series X|S and Oculus Quest 2.

GAME has yet to comment on the policy change, although its website now includes a console pre-orders category among its delivery options. It’s something worth keeping in mind as Sony works to assign more PS5 pre-orders to retailers ahead of launch.

I wondered if other retailers are doing this because of the weight of these consoles, but then I realised this charge includes the Series S too!!
Not cool.
I had the chance to preorder from Game just after the announcement.. I waited for Amazon the next day because Game are just scummy.. And so many examples of them not honoring preorders.. I wasn't going to take the risk. Praise the sun I didn't!
Same ole Game
Charging extras where they can
Unbelievable but normal.
My least fave shop.
(Formatting Of comment ruined it)
I paid 11.99 to ensure its tracked delivery as I had issues receiving my back buttons months ago and basically called me a liar. I'd say the pricey delivery is worth it
I wish I could like Game as I'd love to support one of the last high street gaming outlets, but they are just so overpriced and dealing with them for my ps5 pre-order was a bizarre experience. Extra delivery charge, two or three days before any kind of confirmation, no way to create an account for my pre-order and then another week to cancel the pre-order after I got one with Amazon.
I can't see them lasting much longer unless they start to match the online store prices. They always charge at least £10 more for any new game than pretty all the online retailers.
It shocks me that people still order from Game. Vast majority of the time you can find better deals elsewhere, even on new releases.
As if people needed another reason to avoid GAME like a banana peel in Mario Kart.
@Ben8371 Nearly every retailer I know that's taken pre-orders uses DPD for delivery on release day at no extra charge. There's zero chance I'd pay extra.
It's the norm, especially with such a high value item.
They’re terrible but it would be a shame to see them go under. My local video game shop’s gone so if a tenner keeps at least some sort of physical presence that isn’t owned by Bezos’ all encompassing baldness, sure.
Mike Ashley is at is again. The guy is a complete idiot. Just taking advantage of the demand.
@Old-Red They can't match the prices. They pay a premium for inner city ground rent whereas Amazon use warehouses out in the countryside. Then they can't make such a tiny profit margin on things like Amazon because if you sell a billion things but only make £1 on each item, you've still made a billion but if you only sell a few thousand things, you've only made a few thousand quid. So to afford staff, rent, electricity bills, insurance etc and then make even a modest profit, you need to make much higher margins per item. Same as why high street bookshops got so boned by Amazon.
Still I haven't bought a first hand game from a high street store probably since the early 360/PS3 era so I won't miss them. They are kinda screwed, though, whatever they do.
GAME are scumbags :-/ I probably just bought 1 game from them in the past and that is it. God knows how they have been going for so long. Well maybe some people are stupid to shop there I guess.
@EquiinoxGII Is that who owns Game?
If that's the case, enough said. He's a bell something or other of the highest order.
So they added a scalper tax? Makes sense... Not...
@Woogy He should just change his surname to Hunt and be done with it. Mike Hunt is a far more fitting name for the likes of him.
@nessisonett Indeed
@Woogy yeah mate, he bought them last year I think. Has the same tactics with his other stores. Absolute snake. Haha
@nessisonett hahaha! We all know what that refers too!
@Rhaoulos honestly wouldn't shock me of good old Mike bought a loads of PS5s and XBSX to sell online.
@KathyQ in the end I replied to the confirmation email as I'd had no reply from them about my cancellation request. Some guy replied and took the details. I wouldn't leave it too late to cancel as it's not something you can get done in a day.
Don’t worry game won’t exist next time you have to pre order a console.
@FredBiletnikoff Not really any need for that, is there..?
Wish Electronics boutique never shut it was such a great gaming shop back in the 90s early 2000s, games for each console on there own wall. Pc games in oversized boxes along with PC soundcards like Sound blaster and graphics cards from 3dfx voodoo range and it's crazy colourful boxes
If the lorry gets stolen with all the consoles on it Game will probably still keep the $10. 😂

Absolute scumbag of a company.
As sad as it would be to see folk lose their job I'll be happy once that shop is gone.
I miss Game Station :’{
Defending GAME is not something I thought I'd be doing, but if it's not retroactive I'm not sure what the issue is, particularly as the consumer is made aware at checkout and the cost is not hidden. Believe it or not, shipping large, heavy items is actually quite expensive. While the cost to GAME is unlikely to be the full £10 I imagine they did the maths and realised posting tens of thousands of PS5s for nothing was going to lose them quite a bit of money. Now charging £5 to post a single game, on the other hand...
Perhaps Amazon can absorb shipping costs because they treat their drivers like crap and pay very little tax.
Cancelled my Game pre order and went with Argos. Happy to not give my money to Game.
@OneManDroid @Old-Red
Just wondering don't you pay up front for the PRE-ORDER? or they charge you when they send the order? (amazon or game)
@rjejr ahhh no! why bring that up! I was a victim of that!
My Splatoon trio pack amiibo never made safe passage to my home. 😂
From memory, pretty sure GAME refunded me a fiver to "cover" the limited edition squid amiibo and just gave the other 2 separately.
Haven't bought from them since! Zero trust.
Is Game like the uk version of GameStop?
This rubbish news appeared after the Series X pre orders became available. They automatically had this nonsense delivery charge forced on them, so it's no surprise GAME have retroactively applied this to PS5 orders. Lame, lame and lame.
@Perryg92 That heist is how I learned what a "lorry" was. I always thought it was some type of bird, or Canadian currency.
So whenever I see a story about Game, that's the first thing that pops into my mind.
Sorry about the amiibo.
Don't blame them, gotta be pretty costly to ship so many systems all at once, amazon will gain from this though no doubt
I wonder if GAME were offering their 'extended warranty' too, mwaaaaahhhahaahaahaa!!
Game secretly putting a £10 delivery charge?................big fat LOL
I got my Ps5 pre-order from Smyths Toys.......... Theres no delivery charge.......... Kinda makes you wonder, Will I get the console on launch day??? (Anxiety attack!!!!!!!) lol
@TheIdleCritic Well Amazon gives you free delivery when you spend over a certain amount? So £449.99 should be free delivery?
Its just Game being greedy bitches........ Or should I say Mike Ashley the owner is a greedy bitch........ Just ask the Newcastle fans what they think of Mike Ashley
@Subsided Most retailers give free delivery when you spend over a certain amount tho....... Its just Game being snide
@Keyblade-Dan You do realise Game and Game Station were owned by the same company before they went bust during the LAST resession? Mike Ashley's Frasers Group now owns Game
Game are clueless about games these days. I had planned on picking it up from Tesco anyway. My happy place.
@OutspokenGamer Screw all the staff Amazon are killing as well then eh - so long as you can bung them money every single month to get it next day. Yay. 💷
@BNAG_Gamer I know they do but with a massive amount all at once I imagine it's not so easy to absorb
@Subsided I mean there will be economies of scale there, so it's likely it'll cost less per-unit, especially as every logistics company is going to want a slice of these contracts.
just checked my pre-order confirmation from game.
it says "Delivery: Free Royal Mail Tracked 24".
I did manage to get my pre-order in on the night of the PS5 showcase.
@mookysam There's a podcast about deaths in Amazon warehouses. (USA)
Only found this: https://www.revealnews.org/article/behind-the-smiles/
Worst ones was a guy, untrained, who was crushed by a forklift and dead body left for over an hour. Their lawyers worked with city officials to scupper the investigation and the city investigator lost his job as a result of trying to do his job., The family were screwed out of their promised compensation.
Another one was a gas leak where supervisor told to tell workers to carry on - she called emergency services who ordered her to evacuate and Amazon docked wages of all workers.
Lots of other awful stories about unsafe conditions, backhanders to city officials.
For us in the UK it's the loss of revenue for public services through Amazon not paying taxes. Ironic since its those same public services that ensure people are healthy, basic education, etc and have other services enabling them to get to work and do a days job. I always buy from everywhere except amazon
@Ridwaano pay when it's sent, not up front (hope that helps)
@OneManDroid
Danish site charge when you pre-order.. So you have bet it on 1 website if you don't want multi purchases
Makes no difference to me, I never jump into the next generation so soon.
