I still vastly prefer to play...station..ary on the big screen.

Always a little confused why people swear by the Portal when you can easily replicate everything it does without buying it specifically. This fanmade Remote Play app just adds to that.

The general latency isn’t the real problem imo. It’s the extra delay of the audio (!) which annoys me. You never have video and audio in sync. Additionally, moving scenes with many fine details become pixel mud. And the third annoying aspect: I can’t use 3D audio, which was announced with an older update, but somehow I can’t activate it.

Why would i stream 4k when the display is 1080p? I seriously have 0 complaints about my portal.

Have never heard of this app. Not sure I trust it with that name. Almost certainly wouldn't pay for it.

When I do need to play remotely b/c someone else is using the TV I still have my PS4 hooked up in the bedroom and if I can't get on there the Apple iPad app works well enough for me for free. PS5 controller hooks up no problem as well.

“Hopefully some of these updates make their way to the Android version eventually too” … and iOS version because there are people that use that too.

@RoomWithaMoose I think because for many people it’s still much more convenient using a dedicated handheld, instead of playing on something like a phone or ipad where you either have to use onscreen controls or have to prop your phone up somewhere while you use a dualsense

I love my ps portal I just hate that I have to pay ps plus premium to get cloud streaming
At least let me get that with ps plus essential or extra

I realized I paid for this app years ago and it never worked that well so I deleted the app and completely forgot about it and gave up on remote play. Wasn't sure if it was my network or the app. But I just fired it up with this new update, and, damn, it's working really well for me. I was able to restore my purchase of the app and get access to the new features without paying, again. At first, I noticed a little bit of lag playing Astro Bot and was a little disappointed, but then I went into the settings and found some advanced options that helped reduce it, and now it's super responsive at 4k upscale. The advanced options say it needs to be on a good network and it increases power consumption and heat on your device, so unsure if that'll have any long-term effect on my iPhone. But it is extremely playable!

I used this app with my Retro Pocket 5 to play Resident Evil remastered on PS4. While it was mostly a great experience, the image would always eventually freeze after a while, and I would need to reconnect to fix it. I wonder if this also happens on the Portal. Or perhaps it's just a PS4 issue.

@RoomWithaMoose For me it's the dualsense design and cloud streaming of games we own which is something this app can't do.

Heck yeah. Sounds promising. I have a steam deck. Try RP of MH WILDS long ago but the connection are kinda lag. Perhaps im using potato router. Changing to wifi 6 router and i might try this and play RE4 remake

@LogicStrikesAgain @UltimateOtaku91 Fair enough points. I actually thought you could cloud stream in the official app, but I wouldn't really know.

Although I should've clarified that I'm not saying the Portal isn't a worthwhile device. Just that any amount of fanaticism its seemingly garnered is odd to me given it could be argued as a glorified remote play tablet with a special grip. Completely fine it is that, and completely fine people like that. Some people just talk like it's one of the greatest peripherals, which is weird praise in my eyes.
