Re: Poll: Do You Care About the Death of PlayStation Stars?

Hyena_socks

They did a fantastic job of hiding it away as best they could, the fact you had to access it through the website and not the console itself was terrible, and likely obtuse by design.

A loyalty system is fantastic for the consumer, but I can’t see a company like Sony doing something that might eat into maximising their profits.

Re: Poll: 10 Years Later, What Are Your Thoughts on The Witcher 3?

Hyena_socks

The combat hasn’t aged well, and my god are parts of it bleak. But it’s phenomenal all the same. Superb writing, rich side quests that may or may not have butterfly effects on the world, rich characters, atmospheric art design, beautiful music. It strikes the perfect balance between humour and mature storytelling.

I started the remaster and had to stop because I knew I’d lose myself for hundreds of hours all over again and I had new games to play. That said it’s no True Crime: Streets of LA, so it’s not the best game EVER.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for May 2025?

Hyena_socks

I don’t want to say this as they’re adding half as many as they took away, but it’s a great month for me on PS+ Extra, I’d happily play every game they’re releasing, bar STALKER which I own.

Sandlands is the big one for me, but pretty much all the others are ones that have peaked my interest but haven’t dropped low enough in sales when I’ve had money

Re: Oblivion Remastered Runs Worse the Longer You Play on PS5

Hyena_socks

This all sounds terrible, but in reality over 50 hours in with many hours-long sessions, it’s rarely noticeable, and it’s never affected my gameplay.

People get whipped up, but a fun game is a fun game, it’s not a precision action RPG, you don’t need a solid 60 frames (although that would be nice).

Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?

Hyena_socks

It’s too realistic, I feel like I might feel bad blowing up 20 beach goers with a rocket launcher before flying my helicopter into a busy intersection before beating an old woman to death with a giant dildo this time.

And then what’s even the point of playing a GTA if you can’t enjoy acts of mass murder terrorism?

Re: Best Capcom Games on PS5

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is such an under appreciated gem, it’s a truly unique experience that captures a sense of adventure like no other game I’ve played. It’s also just plain weird, in an endearing, curious way.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Oblivion Remastered?

Hyena_socks

I killed an NPC by pushing them off a fort whilst fighting a bandit, whilst searching for a cure for vampirism after contracting the disease fighting them in a ruin. After killing her, she floated bolt up right down the road, on some new adventure.

I voted it a 9/10. It’s every bit the chaotic technical maelstrom of the original and the most fun I’ve had gaming for years. Which, at the end of the day, is all you can hope for

Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (PS5) - The Largely Fantastic Revival of a Landmark RPG

Hyena_socks

It captures every bit of the wonder I felt when first playing it, I must have put hundreds and hundreds of hours into the original.

This remake/remaster has been done with a surprising amount of love. It captures a real sense of exploration that Skyrim somehow lost, and the guilds feel like real institutions with interesting storylines.

I can understand the 7/10, it’s clunky and still gloriously broken, but it’s also a game responsible for far too many late nights before work.

I was always very much a proponent of turn-based in FF, but then 16 turned out to be the best FF since 10. I think just give us good characters with good voice work, a good story and a bit of spectacle and adventure, and FF fans will be happy.

12, 13, 15 all dropped the ball on one of the above. The gameplay has largely been the least important part of the games.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Oblivion Remastered?

Hyena_socks

@ryan_nil you’ll absolutely not find the challenge in a game like Oblivion. Combat is fairly simple, largely easy. What the game does well is a huge world to explore, lots of dungeons to delve into.

It’s more a game to chill to, than to test your reflexes. But if you let it, you’ll lose yourself for hours, days, months to it.

If you want a halfway point between a Soulslike and Elder Scrolls, you might like Dragon’s Dogma 2 though. Tough, chaotic fights and a bit of old school design in save points and such.

Re: Oblivion Remastered: Everything New and All Changes Compared to the Original Oblivion

Hyena_socks

@Northern_munkey I think it’s a bit unfair to criticise 3 reviews without naming the names, and to say it’s a ‘slight’ upgrade in visuals from the original is very much a stretch. Have you seen the original? Argonian’s heads are just a blob vaguely molded into an anvil shape.

I do agree sometimes it feels like we don’t get the full picture, there was little mention of the severe drop in quality in BG3 Act 3 at launch, but I’m also sure the staff here do put in as much time as they possibly can into games.

But it’s a fine line between getting an in-depth review, and getting a review out in time, a lot of people will complain if a review isn’t out around launch. So I think you are being rather harsh.

Re: Opinion: Baldur's Gate 3 Was Already a 10/10, But Updates Have Made It an All-Time Masterpiece

Hyena_socks

The way the game reacts and has an answer to every little completely wild idea you have is truly stunning. Playing other RPG’s, I feel I constantly compare that aspect. It can be challenging, fun, creative. It’s a real masterpiece.

It does however have one unfortunate flaw, the main story is bollocks. “Crew of weirdos must beat evil thing. Why is evil thing there? To be evil. Can you stop it? Oh, looks like you can, well done.”

That’s what they can improve next time. But with a lot of classic fantasies, it’s the journey and characters that count.

Re: Talking Point: What Do We Actually Want from the Oblivion Remake?

Hyena_socks

The Skyrim levelling was a bit of a step down, they over simplified a lot of aspects that Oblivion had, itself a simplified step down from Morrowind. On the other hand, there’s been huge updates to the actual gameplay itself.

I’d love to see better combat/gameplay, but with the more in-depth RPG elements of Oblivion and Morrowind.

Also if you can’t climb paintbrushes don’t even bother remaking it.

This was a lot of fun, the 30 hours I sunk in without paying a dime - it was generous and fun. But my god, did the addiction get unhealthy quickly. You’re encouraged to log in daily, I’d feel bad if I missed my run, or if I played another game.

I like to play games, not be played by them, so got out of dodge. Now I just stay up until 3am playing another game, but I’m not encouraged to spend money, and I can go a few days without gaming happily if I’m up to other shenanigans.
