PS Plus Essential September 2025 Announcement

Sony has today announced the three PS Plus Essential games all PS Plus members can look forward to playing for the month of September 2025. Available to download from Tuesday, 2nd September, the lineup is as follows:

What proves a small surprise about September 2025's selection is only one of the three games are native to PS5. Of course, Psychonauts 2 and Stardew Valley play on PS5 via backwards compatibility, but they are PS4 titles at the end of the day. Nevertheless, there's a lot of quality on show in the lineup.

Psychonauts 2 is a fantastic action platformer that was awarded a 9/10 score in our PS4 review. "There are very few games that offer an experience as good as this, with ingenious level design and heavier themes that never feel sludgy or, more importantly, preachy," we said at release. "Brilliant aesthetics go hand in hand with tremendous gameplay here and it's a genuine delight to say that it's all been worth the wait."

Stardew Valley is a now-iconic farming simulator game that everyone knows about, so its high quality is common knowledge. In the case of Viewfinder, it offers an interesting first-person puzzle experience where you take pictures and then the contents of those photos materialise in the game world.

"Setting aside the narrative, which is pretty forgettable, this is a largely impressive, compelling puzzle game with a truly unique gameplay hook," we said at the end of a 7/10-rated Viewfinder PS5 review.
