GTA 6 Launch

Will Grand Theft Auto 6 enjoy the biggest launch in video game history? Let's be honest, most would be surprised if it didn't — and Rockstar knows this all too well.

In a fresh job advertisement — of all things — the developer straight up calls this "the largest game launch in history". Not many companies could make such a claim without coming across as eye-rollingly arrogant or just plain delusional, but we doubt that anyone's going to argue against GTA 6.

The job listing itself is for a lead software engineer, who will "lead both the evolution and operation of the data platform supporting what will be the largest game launch in history, ensuring it scales to deliver an exceptional experience for millions of players worldwide."

GTA, of course, is one of the most well known properties in the world at this point. Its reach extends far, far beyond the hardcore, appealing to the kind of people who only engage with games on a very casual level.

It's a cultural touchstone, and the excitement surrounding GTA 6 — which is set to launch on the 26th May, 2026 — is already electric (and has been for months, if not years).

In short, just about everything suggests that GTA 6 is going to have an unprecedented impact. It's easy to forget that Grand Theft Auto 5 was a PS3 game that released over a decade ago in 2013. Again, the hype for its sequel has been bubbling for two entire console generations.

What could possibly go wrong? Well, there's always a chance that GTA 6 disappoints. Expectations will be sky high ahead of launch, but even then, it's difficult to doubt Rockstar's pursuit of quality.
