Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon just got a major update, boasting the kind of new features and gameplay tweaks that should inject some fresh interest in the game.
Tainted Grail launched on PS5 earlier this year, back in May. And while it didn't rack up outstanding review scores and blockbuster sales, it was an undeniable hit with many RPG fans.
Admittedly, the game's rather clunky, but if you can look past the jank, you'll find a surprisingly ambitious adventure that gets a lot of gameplay stuff right. Deep progression systems, weighted player choice, and engaging combat mechanics all shine in what is a clearly Elder Scrolls-inspired RPG.

In truth, we're a bit regretful that we didn't get to review Tainted Grail, but given the scope of this patch, it could well be one for the backlog.
Here's an overview of said update from developer Questline:
- New Game Plus (NG+),
- transmog system,
- various Forlorn Swords (Act 3) fixes and content additions (including much more loot to find everywhere, and 3 new caves),
- third-person perspective camera improvements,
- late-game console stability improvements,
- new Qrko (the cute pet) forms, including a mount and a summon,
- origin potion crafting recipe,
- new weapons and armor sets,
- 3 new dungeons, 6 new quests. A lot of other quest fixes, new rewards, dungeon redesign etc.,
- a bunch of visual and audio updates all around (in-game, UI, etc.),
- new enemy sound effects and a few extra tracks by Dzivia,
- TONS of bug fixes and rebalancing all over the place,
- and many, maaaany more
You can read the full (and incredibly long) patch notes on the game's official Steam page.
Again, this is the sort of patch that borders on being DLC. If you're already into Tainted Grail, you've got loads of new bits and pieces to explore — but if you're only just starting out, it looks like you're getting a much improved version of an already well-liked release.

I’ve kinda been over the scrolls-like for a while but I did enjoy my replay of New Vegas last year and Arthurian myth is a personal fave, so I might well end up giving this ago eventually.
Yeah definitely overlooked by push square , its a brilliant game with fantastic depth and some great quests , runs great on the pro
It's an amazing game with a great atmosphere, it honestly had me hooked longer than Skyrim did, but still felt like an early elderscrolls.
I'm going to check this out after a few more updates
Completely forgot about this one - is it a souls-like, or can I play it without risk to my sanity or replaying the same 20 minute stretch if I suck?
@Hyena_socks nah it’s like Elder Scrolls.
Hopefully they fixed bugged trophy challenges. Even then though, you practically have to play with a guide to 100% the game, which really puts me off getting it.
What does make me much more likely to get this is the apparent lack of game killing enemy scaling though.
My brother keeps telling me it’s good so I may have to try it one day! Though, he also told me the same thing about Unknown 9 and I didn’t enjoy that game.
Guess I will need to reinstall and see if the framerate still makes me nauseous.
My current obsession!
@LikelySatan yeah. I don't own the full game but damn, framerate wasn't really good in the demo, but the game itself seemed fun
Absolutely brilliant game! The Arthurian lore is such a refreshing change, it's also done very well.
Side note, I got this on SteamDeck because it ran like ass on PS5, but this was back in June, hopefully this patch really helps performance
I’ve played a few hours of it on Steam Deck, I really enjoyed it, but wasn’t in the mood for that kind of game. I will need to revisit it soon.
@windxtravelerx I missed this when it came out. Thanks for mentioning the demo— going to take a look at it.
It's funny that PushSquare call this overlooked when this is the first article the game has ever had on this site.

I literally started playing the day before the patch released, but I can already tell it's a major improvement. This game is really fun and while it's not quite got the polish or production value of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim, it's certainly a level above the kind of jank that PB (Risen, Elex) pumps out for example.
This game is awesome. I only paused it after hearing how many patches it's gonna get. When they're done with the game I'll definitely be back.
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention - didn't know it existed, not sure if it is good enough to warrant a purchase, but at least the game gets some exposure.
@Rob3008 Yeah, we completely overlooked it as well!
I've never heard of this before! The Skyrim comparison made me notice - has it got a first-person mode?
@Kiefer-Sutherland I stand by Unknown 9!
@VenomUK It's built for first-person. There is third person, but at launch it was a little wonky. Not sure if the new patch fixes it a bit, but patch notes say it's improved.
@LikelySatan
Thank you - Was going to ask how framerate behaves in the game, but it looks like you have already answered this.
It's a great one and I will absolutely jump back in for a new game + play through when they are done patching it up. The only downside aside from performance which was shaky for sure is the last act.
The game just released unfinished and it shows in the last area for sure but even with that I was hooked to completion. Grest lore, atmosphere, gear, and build craft in a setting more dark and gritty than the hokey elder scrolls tone.
This one is a hidden gem completely not given a spotlight by games media.
It was a breath of fresh air compared to that overhyped oblivion remaster.
Never heard of it, but am downloading the demo now! General consensus seems to be though that the game runs out of time/budget by part 3.
The demo was really good and had me hooked instantly, but then came Death Stranding 2, Mafia, Indiana Jones PS5, Hexen+Heretic, Oblivion Remaster and my love for Elden Ring reignited... I really need like three Dr. Manhattan clones. Sooo many good games, so little time...
This was a really good if flawed game.
@Rich33 The first big city made me super nauseous. I don't have motion sickness issues, I read on the train, etc.
I am reinstalling and my save is at that location so I'll report back. It's an incredible game. I just can't take the nausea.
@LikelySatan
Im much the same. For me, much less than locked 60fps (with short dips to 55ish) gives me headaches and/or feeling sick.
Edit: in this case I doubt the demo would be much use, as its unlikely they will have patched it similarly.
@Rich33 It's installing so I'll see how it runs. I know it won't be a locked 60.
@Rich33 I set it to 1080p, 30fps target, and unfortunately it's still pretty messy. It wasn't so bad that I got nauseous. But the real issue is that running it at 4k targeting 60 seemed just as rough as 1080 30. Very, very annoying. The world is so cool. Guess I might as well put it down and hope they can finish the work eventually.
Le sigh
@LikelySatan
I presume your talking PC? (Or I suppose you could be limiting to 1080 via system menu, and running in graphics mode).
Hopefully they will fix it up better, and they have yet to address performance issues.
@Rich33 PS5. It has resolution options in the menu.
Cause they know, lol.
