Hangar 13 is playing all of its Mafia: The Old Country marketing as straightforward as it possibly can: next month's PS5 gangster title is old school in its approach, with minimal distractions. Like an early Uncharted game, its combat appears simple, and you can get another look at it in the trailer above, captured from a PS5 Pro.
Firefights use a cover mechanic and knifefights include quick-time events, a lot like the action games of old. Supporting the approach is the decision to make an entirely linear experience, instead of including the open world from past Mafia titles.
The game even looks to draw inspiration from Uncharted 4's boss fight with Rafe, where Nate duels the main villain with a knife, featuring various moves and strikes for you to utilise.
There will also be grenades and other explosives to deal damage with. Mafia: The Old Country releases for PS5 on 8th August 2025, priced at £49.99 / $49.99. Are you looking forward to its more straightforward approach? Let us know in the comments below.

Looks like the exact sort of game I would enjoy. Something my mum can play too, with less fluff and busywork and more straightforward pacing.
This looks great, but I haven't played a Mafia game before and am a bit of a stickler for at least trying the earlier games in a series first.
Cool I enjoy the mafia games and this trailer looks good Word up son
I’m very interested. Seems like a short contained experience which I will definitely be in the mood for between the death stranding 2 plat and kingdom Come 2 plat…
looks good they need a win after the failure that was mafia 3
@themightyant This would technically be the first game as it's the earliest in the timeline.
@trev666 they already had a win with Mafia 1 remake.
@darylb24 Ha! I like the way you think.
@themightyant Haven't played them either, but apparently Mafia 1 is close to a master piece.
It looks very 7/10
Really looking forwards to this and Lost Soul Aside - I hope both turn out as good as they look to be from what we have seen so far. It could be a really good month!
Nothing wrong with linear, most so called games today are full of paddled out crap to justify the price tag.
@SeaDaVie the low price is rousing my suspicions. I recognise the mechanics from the last one and that was what; a decade ago?
A focused, linear experience like 1 will be great, hopefully it’s a strong story too. The graphics and animations look a bit rougher than they have in other promotion though. Looks like a game that will win hearts over awards possibly.
