Bubsy 3D, made by the developer that would go on to create Syphon Filter and Days Gone, was widely regarded as one of the worst PS1 platformers of its era. The team notoriously showed up to E3 with its head in its hands when it saw a demo of Naughty Dog’s vastly superior Crash Bandicoot.
And now you can sample it for yourself, alongside Bubsy’s 16-bit adventures – and its oddball Atari Jaguar off-shoot.
It’s been announced that compilation Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection will launch on 9th September, with various physical editions available to pre-order through here.

Here’s what the blurb candidly says:
“Is Bubsy a celebrated icon from the mascot wars of the early ’90s or a platforming punchline? Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection explores the franchise’s troubled history and enduring popularity. A playable history that includes games, artifacts, and interviews. What could possibly go wrong?”
You’ll get all of the following games as part of your purchase:
- Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Famicom)
- Bubsy II (Game Boy, Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
- Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales (Jaguar)
- Bubsy 3D (PlayStation)
The compilation includes tons of supporting materials, including artwork, interviews with the original development team, and – excitingly – the original TV pilot for the series’ 90s cartoon tie-in.
Even though these aren’t necessarily the best games, it’s amazing to see this collection have so much care and attention invested into it.
