The first teaser trailer for the Silent Hill 2-based movie Return to Silent Hill went live earlier today, revealing a 40-second glimpse of the film set to release in January 2026. Catch it above.
Giving very little away, the short trailer focuses on James Sunderland (played by Jeremy Irvine) as he explores Silent Hill in search of his dead wife. There's then a quick tease of Pyramid Head at the end. The film is directed by Christophe Gans, who returns to the series having also led the original 2006 film.
Return to Silent Hill is designed to be a faithful movie adaptation of the Silent Hill 2 game. "Return to Silent Hill is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpiece of a game, Konami's iconic Silent Hill 2. I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer," Gans has previously said.

Maybe a hot take but the first Silent Hill movie was good, obvs not amazing but was at least faithful. And with this new movie having the same director I think he can deliver a great movie this time.
The vibe looks pretty solid like the 1st movie but i need to see more. James with black hair looks...a bit weird though.
I quite like the first movie. This will suffer being an adaptation of 2, which will just be impossible to match in terms of quality.
@nessisonett I agree to an extent, but look what Bloober managed to pull off with the remake.
Don't know what to say about the trailer! It looks cheap and the main actor looks a little off.
@Oram77 Not a hot take. The 1st movie despite some changes here and there especially the main character, actually a pretty solid adaptation. But the 2nd movie was a disaster which is really unfortunate cause SH 3 is my most favorite SH game.
@Oram77 I don't think that's a hot take at all. The first Silent Hill movie is damn solid.
@PuppetMaster There never was a second movie remember SH3 is also my favourite too, I really hope it get's remade at some point.
@RBMango I only say hot take because it didn't get received well at release, but it's nice to see more people vouch for it nowadays.
Not really getting any Silent Hill vibes from this particular trailer.
This looks quite awful. It's got an overly slick and CGI heavy aesthetic that wouldn't be out of place as an MTV music video. Everything looks artificial, and the guy playing James looks too much like a pretty-boy himbo than a man who's lost everything.
I dunno I mean it's Gans so it will at the very least be bizarre and, well, French enough that it could be an interesting curio. But this has got wasted potential written all over it, and considering we've just got an almost pitch-perfect adaptation with the remake, there's just no room for this.
@JB_Whiting It looks " off" and not in a good way?
Getting " make it in my vision" vibes and those types of movies are always abominable
Course very possible it's just me, I've become so jaded with movies done/redone from my younger years
Why is the trailer so fast paced shouldn't it be the other way around
@Bsb56 why is the fast pace so trailered? That what you meant? 🤭
1st film became a cult classic and this looks good but having not long finished the excellent remake, this does look a little off. As someone has already said, CGI looks dodgy and James Sunderland? What the hell 😂
I’ll still go and see it but it’ll be leave your brain at the door and enjoy it for what it is with a few beers and popcorn.
@CallMeDuraSouka It's not just you; most of the comments on YT aren't happy with what we've gotten. I mean I can't judge the film until I've seen it of course, but I know a thing or two about movie trailers as it's my job and this is just the wrong way to go about a teaser for SH.
@Slideaway1983
Very good 👍
Looks like another crap CGI fest. I hated the first one. Passing on this. Hope everyone else enjoys it.
This movie has potential...........to be even worse than the second Silent Hill movie.
Yikes. The acting looks dreadful, and seems a bit fast paced hollywood horror more than the slow burn horror I was hoping for.
But good films get terrible trailers, and the first Silent Hill was surprisingly good, so I’ll still give it a go.
the lead actor doesn't work here. something about this teaser screams fan-made project which is strange since i quite enjoyed the first silent hill movie and thought they nailed the look and atmopshere.
I mean, I’m watching it either way, but “James” looks jarring for sure. Not the same kind of vibe but it’s only a 40 second trailer. Definitely looks like a sequel to the first which is a good thing!
That being said, for the folks that want a 1:1 remake of a remake of a game, go play the game then. I’m open to seeing how they adapt this to film with changes. The games will be canon, the movies will be as if the story was passed down from generation to generation.
…ugh, I really want to go back and play 2 remake again now but Death Stranding 2 really has me by the … well, yeah.
And we already know, due to the month it's being released in, the movie is expected to be trash.
Christophe Gans has done some great movies. Shocked that this is his first new movie since 2014!
Perhaps the trailer was just edited in this loud fashion. I do hope the movie has more of a sombre feel to it.
@Porco I totally agree. That's exactly what I thought watching this. I'm somewhat hopeful it's better than this trailer, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Oh man that looks bad and that's coming from someone who learned to love the first film and even tolerated the second!
The lead looks like he stepped out of A Chemical Romance video that sure as Hell ain't James. This casting makes Bella Ramsey as Ellie look sensible!
On a far more positive note Bloober is remaking the first Silent HIll game, why no article on this?
