Sounds great! Can’t wait for Skyrim: The JRPG, AKA This Time It’s Hamfisted Climate Change Subplot AKA Stop Right There Mysterious Black Rot AKA I Used To Be Adventurer Like You Then I Got This Gravity Defying Rad Haircut to be announced at the end.
The combat hasn’t aged well, and my god are parts of it bleak. But it’s phenomenal all the same. Superb writing, rich side quests that may or may not have butterfly effects on the world, rich characters, atmospheric art design, beautiful music. It strikes the perfect balance between humour and mature storytelling.
I started the remaster and had to stop because I knew I’d lose myself for hundreds of hours all over again and I had new games to play. That said it’s no True Crime: Streets of LA, so it’s not the best game EVER.
I don’t want to say this as they’re adding half as many as they took away, but it’s a great month for me on PS+ Extra, I’d happily play every game they’re releasing, bar STALKER which I own.
Sandlands is the big one for me, but pretty much all the others are ones that have peaked my interest but haven’t dropped low enough in sales when I’ve had money
It was as much an animated short as a reveal trailer for a game, it gave a brilliant succinct story that revealed a lot of depth in tone and characters.
A well deserved win, and a great way to hype up a game which CD Projekt Red need to NOT DO TOO EARLY AGAIN. They can’t help themselves!
Contrary to others, I think this is a great month for Extra - Sandland looks fantastic, Gloomhaven I’m intrigued by, and Seasons looks pretty. All games I’ve wanted to try but haven’t had the money to pick up.
Morrowind is the most in need of a remake, it’s aged terribly gameplay wise. But it is an absolutely stellar world design, interesting story, and it’s just batshit weird. All the other games could also do with a spruce up, but are all much more playable.
That’s a shame, I didn’t realise there was a ‘US’ and ‘UK’ dub, but I definitely didn’t recognise the voice work. I may have to pass on this one. Ill somehow have to decline the $200 inflatable Gex sex doll, difficult though it’ll be.
The mafia games have always had excellent, cinematic narratives so I think this could be great. It is an interesting, different setting so it’s a shame in some ways we can’t explore, but if they mix quiet moments with action, like The Last of Us, it could be really excellent.
Graphics and gameplay look a real big step up too.
It’s too realistic, I feel like I might feel bad blowing up 20 beach goers with a rocket launcher before flying my helicopter into a busy intersection before beating an old woman to death with a giant dildo this time.
And then what’s even the point of playing a GTA if you can’t enjoy acts of mass murder terrorism?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is such an under appreciated gem, it’s a truly unique experience that captures a sense of adventure like no other game I’ve played. It’s also just plain weird, in an endearing, curious way.
I killed an NPC by pushing them off a fort whilst fighting a bandit, whilst searching for a cure for vampirism after contracting the disease fighting them in a ruin. After killing her, she floated bolt up right down the road, on some new adventure.
I voted it a 9/10. It’s every bit the chaotic technical maelstrom of the original and the most fun I’ve had gaming for years. Which, at the end of the day, is all you can hope for
A game takes as long as it needs, unless it’s Elder Scrolls VI. But if they want to push it back to deliver a better product, rather than pull a Cyberpunk 2077, I’m all for it. Too many games to play this year as is.
It captures every bit of the wonder I felt when first playing it, I must have put hundreds and hundreds of hours into the original.
This remake/remaster has been done with a surprising amount of love. It captures a real sense of exploration that Skyrim somehow lost, and the guilds feel like real institutions with interesting storylines.
I can understand the 7/10, it’s clunky and still gloriously broken, but it’s also a game responsible for far too many late nights before work.
I was always very much a proponent of turn-based in FF, but then 16 turned out to be the best FF since 10. I think just give us good characters with good voice work, a good story and a bit of spectacle and adventure, and FF fans will be happy.
12, 13, 15 all dropped the ball on one of the above. The gameplay has largely been the least important part of the games.
This is a nice gesture, but it’s a bit like pushing someone over then offering to bandage their cuts.
Releasing a hugely popular RPG that will take a significant chunk of time to complete just before a brand new IP that’s fought hard for recognition is a bit of a dick move.
@ryan_nil you’ll absolutely not find the challenge in a game like Oblivion. Combat is fairly simple, largely easy. What the game does well is a huge world to explore, lots of dungeons to delve into.
It’s more a game to chill to, than to test your reflexes. But if you let it, you’ll lose yourself for hours, days, months to it.
If you want a halfway point between a Soulslike and Elder Scrolls, you might like Dragon’s Dogma 2 though. Tough, chaotic fights and a bit of old school design in save points and such.
@Northern_munkey I think it’s a bit unfair to criticise 3 reviews without naming the names, and to say it’s a ‘slight’ upgrade in visuals from the original is very much a stretch. Have you seen the original? Argonian’s heads are just a blob vaguely molded into an anvil shape.
I do agree sometimes it feels like we don’t get the full picture, there was little mention of the severe drop in quality in BG3 Act 3 at launch, but I’m also sure the staff here do put in as much time as they possibly can into games.
But it’s a fine line between getting an in-depth review, and getting a review out in time, a lot of people will complain if a review isn’t out around launch. So I think you are being rather harsh.
Is that not on the UK store yet? Feel like I’m going mad but can’t see it - I don’t really have the money so may be good and patient until next payday…may be…
I think folks are getting ahead of themselves, even IF this does drop soon, it’s Bethesda owned by Xbox - there’s no guarantee PS5 will be included. But fingers crossed on both accounts!
The way the game reacts and has an answer to every little completely wild idea you have is truly stunning. Playing other RPG’s, I feel I constantly compare that aspect. It can be challenging, fun, creative. It’s a real masterpiece.
It does however have one unfortunate flaw, the main story is bollocks. “Crew of weirdos must beat evil thing. Why is evil thing there? To be evil. Can you stop it? Oh, looks like you can, well done.”
That’s what they can improve next time. But with a lot of classic fantasies, it’s the journey and characters that count.
I wonder if I can play Bloom & Rage without it completely eliminating all trace of my save if I dare delete a recorded clip in the in-game function to do so.
If I can and Tape 2 doesn’t have the issue, excited for that!
The Skyrim levelling was a bit of a step down, they over simplified a lot of aspects that Oblivion had, itself a simplified step down from Morrowind. On the other hand, there’s been huge updates to the actual gameplay itself.
I’d love to see better combat/gameplay, but with the more in-depth RPG elements of Oblivion and Morrowind.
Also if you can’t climb paintbrushes don’t even bother remaking it.
This was a lot of fun, the 30 hours I sunk in without paying a dime - it was generous and fun. But my god, did the addiction get unhealthy quickly. You’re encouraged to log in daily, I’d feel bad if I missed my run, or if I played another game.
I like to play games, not be played by them, so got out of dodge. Now I just stay up until 3am playing another game, but I’m not encouraged to spend money, and I can go a few days without gaming happily if I’m up to other shenanigans.
“It’s coming out nooooow….nnnooow…now….N-o-w….now, it’s gotta be now….im telling you, it’s without a doubt now…it’s probably just held up in traffic, we’ll get back to you.”
I found myself pretty captivated by the sheer unhinged insanity of the demo. I couldn’t wait to see what the next mascot was, and they all had a wonderful ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ group of absolute weirdos that band and grow together vibe. Looking forward to being one of those 12 people that won’t shut up about it.
I’m sort of expecting it’s just a remaster where they’ve upped the frame rate to 60fps and given it a bit of polish. Things just got wildly out of hand with someone being overheard out of context in a pub
I think it’s common for a lot of gamers to wait a couple months for things to be patched, and if the price goes down there’s no hurry. It’s important we keep pushing for physical releases, when it goes all digital we’ll see fewer price drops I imagine.
But £80 is too much for a lot of people, £70 is a lot, it has been great for the popularity of indies though!
This is sounding better and better, a game as long as it needs to be. I only played the first three, but I remember them being well crafted, dark, exciting and atmospheric, so sounds like we’ll get similar!
A lot of these sound interesting, but I haven’t heard about them before - I like the snippets from the store descriptions, helps get an idea to look into more. I’ll keep an eye on reviews for these.
I’m not sure I agree with the broad point of ‘gamers being less tolerant of punishing gameplay’, Souls-like games are incredibly popular.
But personally I appreciate a game that’s more fair, just because as you get older your time for gaming is reduced, and I want to get further than between 2 checkpoints in a free evening
Robocop is really under appreciated - it’s a fantastic game that captures the films perfectly. Janky I’m a lot of ways, but a lot of fun and surprisingly decent story. Lots of explosions too.
This sounds fun and interesting, my only concern would be making it clear what point triggers a story beat, so you don’t accidentally miss out on a chance to explore somewhere fully before being whisked away. But that’s only if it ever cuts you off from backtracking.
Surely if they’re making a change it should be the opposite, the one going for the throw but blocked should take minimal damage? That would add a fun element of risk
I’ll never understand how a nation where literally everything is, or at least can, kill you is so heavy handed in its censorship. But as someone else said, great advertising for a horror game!

Re: Rockstar Quietly Increases Prices of Red Dead Redemption Games on PS4
Too bad it’s like £15 on disc at most game shops second hand. This is why we need to keep supporting physical discs.
Re: Mini Review: Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny (PS4) - Basic Remaster Keeps That PS2 Charm
@shonenjump86 my knowledge is, likewise, 23 years old. But I don’t remember being too confused by the story, as a child, so I don’t think so.
But someone with more recent knowledge may be able to give you a more reliable answer.
Amazing game though, looking forward to the nostalgia hit!

Re: Oblivion Remastered Runs Worse the Longer You Play on PS5
This all sounds terrible, but in reality over 50 hours in with many hours-long sessions, it’s rarely noticeable, and it’s never affected my gameplay.
People get whipped up, but a fun game is a fun game, it’s not a precision action RPG, you don’t need a solid 60 frames (although that would be nice).
Re: Poll: Which Bethesda RPG Needs an Oblivion-Style Remaster Next?
Morrowind is the most in need of a remake, it’s aged terribly gameplay wise. But it is an absolutely stellar world design, interesting story, and it’s just batshit weird. All the other games could also do with a spruce up, but are all much more playable.

Re: Death Stranding 2's PS5 Story Could Take a Monstrous 75 Hours to Beat
