I got a solid 30 hours out of Zenless Zone Zero without paying a penny, but I still felt I had to log in daily for the rewards, ended up feeling a little too controlled by a game so uninstalled. I imagine this’ll be similar, but might give it a try
This was a lovely read, what a wonderful Mum and shared memory to treasure. I faced Tomb Raider one myself, I remember spending a life time figuring out what to do in the first bloody room. I do remember living the rest, and the intensity of that T-Rex in the tunnels.
My childhood experience is pretty much identical! I only managed to finally beat FF8 through use of a cheat disc (remember them?), giving me 99 of all items, even then the three (four?) stage battle was immense. I was enraptured by the game and characters though, kicked off a JRPG lifelong love
Looks fun! One weird concern I wasn’t expecting to have is the exact same whip sound, iconic sound though it is, repeating any time it’s used in the trailer. That could get very annoying very quickly.
That won’t have come cheap, I suspect we’ll see the closure of some other studios owned by Tencent soon. They’ve done similar before, and I’m sure it’s a pattern they and other similar conglomerates will adopt.
Besides ‘it takes two’ (my internet is rubbish), I’d be happy to try the other two games - so pretty good if unremarkable month. Could be fun if I find any space in my backlog
Just one wish: that CDProject Red don’t put a release date out until they’re certain.
I loved Cyberpunk 2077 but I’m not waiting hand a year after buying a game to be able to play past the (admittedly the size of an entire game itself) prologue
The game I has fun gameplay, but a completely toothless story, and characters that just aren’t very interesting. Maybe it gets better, but there are games with more fun gameplay and/or a better story I can sink 50-80 hours into.
That said, hope it sells decently, I don’t want the franchise to die - I just want to see it unafraid to deal with heavier themes again.
I bought it on release and sank a pleasant enough 20 or so hours into it, before downloading ‘Dragon Age: Inquisition’ to replay, I couldn’t go back to it after.
It’s just a very shallow, hollow shell of a game. It’s fun enough, but dated level design, lightbeam puzzle galore, and companions that range from blander than bare bread to actively annoying.
I didn’t unlock everyone, maybe the last two companions are great, or the story kicks up a gear, but what I played was aggressively mediocre.
As history has proven, conglomerates are always a good thing and nothing bad ever happens when they happen. This will certainly not end in layoffs, closures, a general loss of identity and competitiveness to drive innovation and creativity.
Huzzah for a small number of companies owning everything!
I played on PC back when it first came out, had to duck out as it didn’t grab me and was a bit of a technical mess. But I’ve heard it’s one of the best RPG’s out there these days, so I might dive in on console. I wonder if it will allow me to be a Samurai that rides a giant tortoise like Pathfinder 1E lets you.
I downloaded the demo, it was visually and musically stunning, with great atmosphere. But the gameplay was unfortunately a bit dull, and I found myself dragging myself through the demo a bit.
I might check it out on sale sometime, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me
Please please whoever’s up there and listening, if you do just one thing for me in this all too brief life, make it so John Cana plays all the crew - ‘Nutty Professor’ style.
We’re losing some great games, but having whined on that page I’m pretty happy with these. Dying Light 2, Ishin! And Digimon Survive are all games I’ve almost bought a few times.
@scoobdoo hate to say it but I do agree in a lot of ways.
It is fun, and Solas is genuinely brilliant as a character when he does pop up. But everything else is very mediocre.
I like that it’s diverse, and I’ve not met all the characters - but the humours flat, I’m not feeling invested in everything, I keep falling off ledges because everything in the game is a bloody ledge with floaty controls, and the combat is alright.
I’m enjoying it as a chill by-the-numbers RPG but I don’t think it’ll live on in my memory when I’m done
“It’s not earth shattering, but it isn’t terrible” is a very apt review of the game tbh - I’m perfectly enjoying my time with it, but I’m about 20 hours in and it’s not done anything particularly special. I’ve not not enjoyed my time with it though.
With the amount of grooming, bullying, general harm social media does to young people, it’s not a terrible decision. It is, however, a pointless one.
VPN’s and other methods would make any block, short of China’s extreme measure, redundant.
Maybe hold social media platforms to better account when they don’t adequately try to protect minors. Charge them a substantial fine when their platforms are used to spread misinformation, steal information, fail to prevent grooming. Put the onus on them.
Maybe I got lucky, but I really don’t get the weird obsession with this games performance. I bought it at launch, and it runs absolutely fine. A bit of jank, but it’s never impeded the gameplay or led to any frustration.
It’s also just an incredible game with completely bonkers action and situations you stumble into.
Don’tNod make incredible games that are marketed poorly, it’s a very talented team, I feel, piloted by a management who doesn’t always know what they’re doing.
I hope the weekly French protest is successful, losing 69 from 320 employees would be significant.
I’d like to see quality of life updates, most of which are minor and may be fixable in a menu:
why do I need to go through three screens and two buttons to overwrite a save game - make it ‘x’, give me one warning, why would anyone want to rename the save each time?
when I lock on to a target, and switch targets, keep locking on, don’t soft-lock suddenly so I have to swing the camera round manually
Give us the option to switch classes somewhere in the opening, in case we wish we’d gone a different route when seeing it in action
make Neve as interesting as she looks / interesting
It’s like people have grown up with the caricature of gamers and decided “Yes, this is me, I will own this and triple down” - and then have a four year old hissy fit when a game features any minority.
I’m enjoying the game - the characters and writing are a bit rubbish, but after 10 hours it really starts to pick up.
Having played this all evening, unless it really ranks in later chapters, it has every bit the magic of the original game. A bloody text message string made me emotional.
Maybe it does tank and deserves that 6, otherwise just a reminder reviews are personal opinions - and sometimes you’re going to disagree. Though it does seem harsh.
This seems to be a pretty polarising game - on the one hand there’s this ‘hate’ and a mightily unimpressed review from this site, but I’ve also seen glowing reviews saying it’s one of the best LiS games yet. I remember the first game had a similar response, so I’ll definitely be checking the game out and seeing for myself!
Really disappointed to read about this, but for me I’m such a big fan of the games just seeing and hearing another chapter in Max’s life is worth the asking price. But at least I’m prepared for a B-movie affair this time.
Mad how they took a game with a clear, easily transferable story and set up, and seemingly messed it up. But then that’s Amazon all over, all money, no soul.
I will of course still probably binge this in one sitting as I’m a sucker for anything crime related and Japanese
It’ll be basic gameplay, dated in many ways, but man am I hyped just to experience it all again. Hopefully if it does well enough we may, possibly, possibly maybe see some kind of follow up eventually.
I don’t folks were complaining about the price being low - just cautious. These days as gamers we’re no strangers to paying a lot of money and being shafted. We’ve also been made aware that games cost a lot, and £70 is what studios often need to charge to meet spiralling costs.
Luckily this looks refreshing, and as £50 isn’t ‘budget’ seems like if it sells well it’ll still give a small studio a hefty boost for their next project.
I’m still waiting for reviews though, the days of trusting pre-orders died a while back
I get it’s not so much extra, but Square we’re exploiting their biggest fans. If the game was ready two weeks ‘early’ it should be available, hopefully they’ll think twice in future.
Also gonna do my best to avoid them - if there’s one game franchise you don’t want spoiled, it’s a LiS game. Like Game of Thrones no doubt I’ll have it spoilt walking past someone in the street though
Kart Racer Confirmed! Mario Kart but instead of banana skins and shells you pick up ink and paper. A clever control scheme means you have to race as you write players names, the left stick is your steering, the right your pen strokes. If they pass you before you write their name, you die.
Something I learnt during field research from conservationists, if jackals are causing an issue the worst thing to do is kill one, maybe two. If you kill one of the dominant in the pack, the rest have a tendency to disperse, all becoming dominant pairs as they create new packs. This made me think of that - personally I love Jackals, they rock, so hopefully all these new studios will too!
This sounds interesting! But I’m a Lone Wolf, a Soul Survivor, a strong independent man who don’t need no friends (I do and am glad to have them, I just prefer to play games by myself) - will it be possible to play single player?
Very interesting! I’ve only played part of Pathologic 2, I like weird games but my gods that things on another level. It’s good, incredibly atmospheric, but I just found it so unsettling and bizarre it scared me off a bit. Still, intrigued by this!
There’s so much potential but I just have a feeling it’ll be rubbish, I’ll be very happy to be proven wrong though. It’s one of my favourite franchises. As long as they can get the character and depth in the story, it could be excellent.
Obviously there’s a whole discussion about how, mysteriously, a game featuring a black character and a woman without side-boob is unpopular in gaming circles, but it’s excellent that they’re taking extra time on this.
They should have kept historical accuracy and cultural awareness key, it’s what makes Assassin’s Creed engaging games. Seems like Ubisoft has been shaken up a bit and is starting to take a step back and get things in order.
