In a quick fire interview with Ben Hanson from MinnMax, Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox has said his team wouldn’t be all that impressed if it was tasked with working on a new Sly Cooper next.
Asked “hypothetically” what percentage of the studio would be “jazzed” to continue the stealth platforming series, he estimated around 10%.
“It’s been a long time since Sly Cooper came out,” Fox underlined in response to Hanson’s groans.

It’s a fair point: Sucker Punch’s last entry in the series launched in 2005, an enormous 20 years ago.
Obviously, external studio Sanzaru Games did eventually release Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in 2013, but this project was initially worked on in secret in order to get Sucker Punch to sign off on it. We liked the game overall, but it has a bit of a mixed reputation among fans.
While we personally think Sly Cooper is the best of the PS2’s platforming mascots, we can’t see a world where a new entry is made. Sucker Punch specifically feels like it’s moved on after the success of Ghost of Tsushima.
Personally, as much as we have a soft spot for these old franchises, we don’t buy this idea that Sony needs to keep every series it owns alive until the end of time. Part of the beauty of PlayStation is how it’s been able to reinvent itself with each subsequent generation.
