Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side

viktorcode

People will still be buying PS5 games (that is, I expect the platform to maintain top revenue among consoles) and additionally they will be getting MS exclusives for cheap. It is Xbox as a console that has to worry, as their revenue stream will be cut, at least in the first few years.

Unlike music and video, games as a subscription service has yet to prove its profitability.

Re: More Outriders Content Planned, 'Poised' to Be Square Enix's Next Big IP

The game is rather good. Power fantasy done right, through the whole campaign.

However, the end game turned out to be anything but. Even disregarding the bugs, you are a weakling, grinding endlessly for the gear that will allow you to kill trash mobs a bit faster. Until you max up your build, the combat becomes a slog. And you won't be able to play the way you want, as there are few viable builds with viable abilities, the rest is being useless. In short, not fun at all.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Claims Sony Has Monopoly on PS Store Games

Prediction: Sony will win.

I see from the comments that for many it is hard to understand why disks in retail may cost less than digital copies which aren't physically produced.

First, nothing is priced at the cost. Everything is priced at the market rate, and you drop the price down to move more copies.
Second, retail stores have more immediate competition from second hand games market. They have to drop prices. But PSN is affected by that as well. That's why older games are offered for less there.

Re: PS5 Game Boost Trailer Raises Eyebrows

Is up to game developers to patch the game, not Sony. What Sony can do is to follow Microsoft's lead in allowing for FPS boost in compatible games, that requires no patching. I'm strongly against doing fake HDR though, because it is guaranteed to break original artistic vision.

Re: Round Up: NieR Replicant Reviews Love the Yoko Taro Experience

viktorcode

I bought it because I liked Automata, and because I think Yoko Taro is a genius. There will be no negative surprises for me as I spent hours of watching the original gameplay, so I'm happy with the purchase.

But I wonder why won't PushSquare buy themselves a copy? Is it a policy to only play publisher-provided games?

Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway

viktorcode

I think the title is wrong, there's no contradiction. Running the service is unsustainable, as your only source of income is a modest subscription fee, as you don't release your own games outside. Sony and others meanwhile can enjoy cool millions for directly selling their games to the service, as Microsoft is trying to boost subscription level.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Takes Third in Slow Week for PlayStation

@naruball Sony has every right to ignore Nintendo Switch. The companies target very different audiences who want different things from their games. Just look at headliners. This should be clear. Of course, there are some who would buy only one console, but there are those who buying both. In the end those overlaps don't really matter, because the core audience is very different.

Re: Poll: Which Bethesda Franchise Will PS5 Miss the Most?

viktorcode

@Vyns The big question what profit, if any, they are making on it? For the whole 2020 Microsoft was expanding the service aggressively, even offering subscription for as low as $1. That's what you do when you need to grow numbers now in hopes of payoff some time in the future.

Consider that a hit game brings in profit in tens of millions. Having that opportunity next to what they are making will always create a pressure to just go and take it now. After all, it is a publicly trading company, and they cannot afford their entertainment business wing to stop generating profits.

Re: Poll: Which Bethesda Franchise Will PS5 Miss the Most?

viktorcode

First, you can't lose something that hasn't been announced yet. The current games are staying. Second, nobody said "forever exclusives". It could be Deathloop style exclusives. There are monetary reasons to sell, when you make a game for way north of $100 million (think next Elder Scrolls) and then have to put it out on a subscription service. This isn't and won't be sustainable, unless half of the world subscribes to your service.

So, no. Nobody will miss anything, because there will be nothing to miss.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for March 2021?

viktorcode

@naruball Not exactly. I have PlayStation 5, not PlayStation 4. So, having a free game but with sub par experience I can get on my platform, does it worth my time? For me the answer is no. The question becomes would I buy FF VII, or skip it.

I don't care about versions on other platforms.

It seems many people seriously think that the hacker(s) is some disgruntled gamer. While they may feel let down by the game, it is clear that they simply continuing on their criminal enterprise of extortion. Targeted attack like this one is hard to pull off. A hacker won't do it just for giggles; there must be possibility of a monetary reward. Also, it shows it's not their first gig. Ransomware business is thriving. Company I work for (a game dev studio) was a victim once too, few years ago. It's far more common than you might think. Obviously, not just a game development companies are targeted, but rather anyone who can potentially pay in bitcoins.

TL;DR: It's just a daily business for the hacker. Not a vendetta against CDPR.
