I'll hold off for the full review. No red flags so far, though deep in my heart I was hoping for perfect 10/10 game. Seems it's not the one, which is okay.
It's always been a mistake. It was done under investors' pressure looking at Microsoft buying spree. They didn't know better back then. Even accounting for that, purchasing a studio with the single game past its prime as the sole revenue source coupled with insane headcount is a recipe for financial disaster.
Sony is best at acquisitions when they buy small(ish) teams rising to glory, not overblown companies with delusions of grandeur
I’m sure same as the last time many gamers will make up a lot of those emojis and then inevitably become enraged because the company hasn’t delivered what they had imagined.
I’m not hyped. But I will check it out. I loved No Man’s Sky at launch. Maybe because I knew there’s no way there will be multiplayer, main reason being the game was advertised differently, like a chill exploration of generated universe, and multiplayer games all have this feature put front and centre. So, there was no reason for me to feel duped.
Hello Games dedication to polishing the experience became a nice bonus for me.
Everyone knows the quality level Astrobot will have. We all been through its "demo". And it was just an appetiser for a big cake! Other games are mostly unknowns.
I guess I'll be in a disappearing minority if I say that I don't care about game shows at all. I care about actual game releases, that happened, not were promised somewhere in the future. I don't need a console to watch trailers on YouTube. Sure, some trailers make me feel excited for some games, but I don't believe in promises and when a game I'm interested in finally comes out I'm always waiting for review scores and never preorder.
Having said that, I'm very happy with what Sony delivered. If I were an Xbox owner instead, I would have to switch.
@get2sammyb In game development 20% market share you can enter is a mandatory market share. I saw game designs being altered for something like 5% share.
@Sequel I think judging by Bungie's history with Destiny, this is why concord will fail.
When they released PvE focused game heavy on coop with PvP bolted on, it became a massive success. When they shifted the focus towards competitive PvP and released Destiny 2, it tanked. Yes, there still some loyal player base there after millions of fixes and adjustments, but it's too low to pay off for a new game.
@ReadySlayerOne You seem to be implying that I stated the game is about the most known figure of the time period in Japan, which I did not. Whatever parade you've rained on wasn't mine 😊
As I said, Yasuke is a famous figure in Japan. The amount of media about him produced in the country is the testament to that. Also, the amount of reactions coming from white dudes with fragile egos outraged that a samurai can be a non-ethnic Japanese will surely bring more attention to the game in mainstream media, which can lead to more sales.
@Ambassador_Kong Representation of a minority is not the cause for outrage. The thinking among those crowds goes like this: "they add a black man as the central character in a game set in Japan to satisfy the pressure from minority rights activists that want to put black people in every media product regardless of the historical setting. They want to ruing our games!"
Those people don't see Yasuke — a very famous figure in Japan. Instead, they see a samurai which is black. But samurais supposed to be native Japanese.
This is blatantly racist. And that racism is not a secret to anyone who reads comments in different gaming-related publications and reddit threads. I won't even mention Discord.
I take it as a thinly veiled outburst of racism from the people who consider themselves "gaming community", trying to hide behind appeals to historical accuracy which has never been the case in any AC game, besides providing the setting.
@skaarj217 The studio had to move out of Russia to be able to finish the game. When releasing game's trailer the studio head announced his anti-war position and said that part of game's revenue will be donated to the Ukrainian war victims. On top of that, their publisher is well known for their general anti-war stance.
I don't know where did you get this "support war" position.
Always wanted to play the original, but owned neither a Windows PC or Xbox. I remember watching a walkthrough few years ago (quite enough for me to forget the solutions to the puzzles) and being awed by the quality of level design. Will purchase as soon as it is available.
60 FPS is a must. I'll cut resolution to 1080p to hit it if needed. Yes, in my childhood I played with much lower frame rates and had a great time. But that was until I higher frame rates became possible. And after experiencing this I there was no going back.
Same game at 30FPS and 60FPS are two different experiences.
@Loamy Frame pacing is a very specific issue, when a frame that takes a bit longer to render pushes many consequent frames into the slower bracket, even when those consequent frames take shorter time to render on their own. It's not a low FPS issue.
If it's only about increasing resolution, high chance I'll pass. I need 60 FPS, I already get it in almost all games, with resolutions upscaled to 4K (which look no different to me from native 4K).
"The technology then upscales the overall image with no discernible compromises to quality. "
I wish that was true. In reality depending on a game and algorithm the resulting picture often ends up significantly different from the native high resolution image, often producing artefacts. For comparison, checkerboard rendering much more reliably follows the original, while still missing some finer details.
@TrickyDicky99 40 hrs week is pretty bad for mental health if the workers are treated as dirt. A common occurrence for starter positions. I don't believe Gen-Z are complaining about working in a nice environment.
Don't know. The game looks appealing, but I cannot take Eurogamer's opinion seriously, as well as Metacritic. If you guys wrote the review, that would be much appreciated.
@LifeGirl Bulk of money comes from software, but modern day consoles are not sold at loss. Yes, initial batches go into red, but the very next silent hardware revision sets things on the right path, ending up with profits at the end of lifespan.
Sony publishes the numbers, and because Xbox hardware is mostly similar you can be sure things are working out the same way for them. And Switch bill of materials speaks for itself.
@Grimwood Nothing is wrong with people. Those games are designed to hijack human reward instincts by tightening retention loops through countless product iterations leading to instant gratification gameplay. Whatever you do there feels satisfying. And your mind begs you for more. "What else am I going to do on my tube ride?" — and off it goes
I have 2 controllers that I charge in turns. That allows for uninterrupted play session of any length.
As for drift issues fixing, I strongly believe this is caused by dirt and liquid getting inside. My first controller had drift pretty early in its lifespan, which I fixed by getting inside the case and applying contact cleaning spray. Works with no drift still since then.
So yeah, Sony could technically mitigate that by better protecting stick assembly from liquid and dust, but once you know the trick you no longer care as you can „fix“ it yourself
Since I skipped it on start (because I never preorder), I find it too hard to get myself to buy the game. I know it has looks and vibe of a city-based open world, but lacks depth of a GTA instalment. I know it has a good story, but many games do. I'm fine with cyberpunk aesthetics, but it's not something I'm a fan of.
Yes. Hear me out: Bungie is famous for dropping the ball with its Destiny franchise. We all want "live services" to fail, and Bungie is well suited for this.
@MattBoothDev I think you are confusing cost with the price. Cost of developing, producing, shipping and supporting is very important, of course, but the price point is where the product's success is determined. So far it seems they hit the nail on the head. If it costs so little for Sony, all the better for them.
@ShogunRok That's expected if you think of a fact that Microsoft release all the games for Windows anyway, removing the need for many people to by a dedicated console.
@Rioichi Thanks, I googled that. I've been following Blow for years on Twitch (due to being myself a software developer), and I was curious what's the problem people have with him. I remember him professing those views on politics and COVID. It didn't stop me from following him because he didn't put his views as "the truth", but rather as an opinion.
In my opinion the guy is a great game designer and even better software engineer. I'm in for Braid, because I didn't;t play it first time, and it is a known to be a good game.
That phenomenon - breaking even during preorder - is anything but new. It led to change in game design and development strategy and incentivised publishers to move money from development to marketing.
That's why I don't preorder. If I'm going to buy anyway, I do that on day one. The stock will not run out.

Of course it is doomed to fail. Differentiate or die.

Re: Hands On: Dragon's Dogma 2 Update Improves Frame Rate on PS5 at the Cost of Ray Tracing
