Re: Indika (PS5) - A Bleak, Beautiful, Bewildering Rumination on Faith and Free Will

@skaarj217 The studio had to move out of Russia to be able to finish the game. When releasing game's trailer the studio head announced his anti-war position and said that part of game's revenue will be donated to the Ukrainian war victims. On top of that, their publisher is well known for their general anti-war stance.

I don't know where did you get this "support war" position.

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

viktorcode

60 FPS is a must. I'll cut resolution to 1080p to hit it if needed. Yes, in my childhood I played with much lower frame rates and had a great time. But that was until I higher frame rates became possible. And after experiencing this I there was no going back.

Same game at 30FPS and 60FPS are two different experiences.

Re: PS5 Pro's Rumoured Spectral Super Resolution Tech Could Be Transformative

"The technology then upscales the overall image with no discernible compromises to quality. "

I wish that was true. In reality depending on a game and algorithm the resulting picture often ends up significantly different from the native high resolution image, often producing artefacts. For comparison, checkerboard rendering much more reliably follows the original, while still missing some finer details.

Re: Xbox Has Allegedly Insisted It Won't Stop Making Consoles, As PS5 Port Rumours Mount

@LifeGirl Bulk of money comes from software, but modern day consoles are not sold at loss. Yes, initial batches go into red, but the very next silent hardware revision sets things on the right path, ending up with profits at the end of lifespan.

Sony publishes the numbers, and because Xbox hardware is mostly similar you can be sure things are working out the same way for them. And Switch bill of materials speaks for itself.

Re: Here's Why Sony Is Making Big Moves in the Mobile Games Sector

@Grimwood Nothing is wrong with people. Those games are designed to hijack human reward instincts by tightening retention loops through countless product iterations leading to instant gratification gameplay. Whatever you do there feels satisfying. And your mind begs you for more. "What else am I going to do on my tube ride?" — and off it goes

Re: Upgraded PS5 Controller with Hugely Improved Battery Life Spotted

viktorcode

I have 2 controllers that I charge in turns. That allows for uninterrupted play session of any length.

As for drift issues fixing, I strongly believe this is caused by dirt and liquid getting inside. My first controller had drift pretty early in its lifespan, which I fixed by getting inside the case and applying contact cleaning spray. Works with no drift still since then.

So yeah, Sony could technically mitigate that by better protecting stick assembly from liquid and dust, but once you know the trick you no longer care as you can „fix“ it yourself

Re: Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Smashed 5 Million Sales in 2023

viktorcode

Since I skipped it on start (because I never preorder), I find it too hard to get myself to buy the game. I know it has looks and vibe of a city-based open world, but lacks depth of a GTA instalment. I know it has a good story, but many games do. I'm fine with cyberpunk aesthetics, but it's not something I'm a fan of.

Is there really something else to it?

Re: Sony Says PS Portal Wasn't Designed to Make a Profit

viktorcode

@MattBoothDev I think you are confusing cost with the price. Cost of developing, producing, shipping and supporting is very important, of course, but the price point is where the product's success is determined. So far it seems they hit the nail on the head. If it costs so little for Sony, all the better for them.

Re: Braid: Anniversary Edition Resurfaces Three Years Later with PS5, PS4 Release Date

@Rioichi Thanks, I googled that. I've been following Blow for years on Twitch (due to being myself a software developer), and I was curious what's the problem people have with him. I remember him professing those views on politics and COVID. It didn't stop me from following him because he didn't put his views as "the truth", but rather as an opinion.

In my opinion the guy is a great game designer and even better software engineer. I'm in for Braid, because I didn't;t play it first time, and it is a known to be a good game.
