After rumours swirled for a number of weeks, EA has confirmed a complete remake of Dead Space is currently in the works for PlayStation 5. It will not release on PS4. A very short teaser trailer confirmed the news at the very end of EA Play 2021 and didn't really show too much. What we do know is that it will feature "improved gameplay" and run on the Frostbite Engine. EA Motive is the team behind this remake.
We also don't know when it's slated for launch — this is basically an "it's happening!" announcement. Still, it's nice to know Dead Space is indeed coming back. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments below.

Fantastic news! Day one for me!
A remake is great and all but I’d rather have a remastered collection of the original three games tbh.
I hope it isn't a reimagining like the rumors stated and is just a remake.
Now I can cut off their limbs with all of the PS5 buzzwords! 4k in HDR with Ray Tracing, Adaptive Triggers, Haptic Feedback and an Ultra Fast SSD!
Edit: I just realised the trailer uses the twinkle twinkle little star cover from the first game's trailer
Hmmmm—not sure I trust them not to muck up a full remake, but I guess we’ll see 🤷🏻♂️
I hope the “improved gameplay” means we’ll get weapon building—that was the best part of Dead Space 3.
In the meantime, can we PLEASE just have a trilogy collection on PlayStation??? PLEASE!
@fR_eeBritney Completely agree. Dead Space 1 & 2 are modern classics and some of the best releases of that gen. There's no need for a full re-do; an HD polish of the trilogy, ala Mass Effect, would have sufficed. It's also super ***** of EA to restart this series after blasting it into oblivion and ejecting a talented dev team.
I wish Motive all the best in trying to recapture the original, but I just feel it's going to disappoint somewhat.
Guurl, I was shooketh lool!
Can't wait for those mini heart attacks.
I'll wait for gameplay before I board the anticipation train.
Oh the controller features alone will make this incredible. So excited to be frightened again.
@gollumb82
It’s not PS5 only mate…but that doesn’t stop you buying it day one.
Not gonna come out for a while but I will get this on PC once I built it
Great news that DS is getting some love. Don’t really see the need for a straight remake mind you, much like a RE4 remake - it’s pointless. A reimagining is fine, but better yet they’d do a new story in the same universe. Obviously too much effort for EA.
I’ll take that trilogy PS4/PS5 port though.
Once again, RIP Visceral, and f*** EA for finally realizing that Dead Space was a worthy IP only after they killed the studio.
Can't wait. Love Dead Space and I'm thrilled to see it return.
Kind of stupid but it always annoys me - both on this site and Pure Xbox - when the stories only mention that a game is going to be on the console specific to that site. Just state all the consoles. I like choice. And having to look at another site to find out it’s on a different console is stupid. Not everyone is a fanboy of any specific console!
@jcboyer515 I’m pretty sure he is alluding to it not being on PS4, not console exclusive. He’s saying he’s glad it’s next gen only(this is a PlayStation website remember)
@Hurblyburbly I think he meant 5 only, and therefore not being on PS4. Not that it was console exclusive ✌
I just remembered this will likely support 3D audio... better head to the store and stock up on some extra underwear before I play this!
@awp69
I completely agree with you on that one because for people who don't check these things it could create misinformation among the 'fanboy' world. Both sites are guilty of that as you say and it is annoying. What's wrong with mentioning the 'other' device on either.
Sometimes PureXbox has talked briefly about PlayStation in their threads. But only when it's negative news and the users love it.
While I'm happy about this and loved Dead Space I wish EA would remember and consider a remake or Mercenaries 1&2. Anyone remember those?
They bought Pandemic years ago and just forgot about them.
Its cool but i wish it was a trilogy remake.oh well i l💛ve dead space.and the graphics will look amazing.i 💖ve remakes .word up son
@GADG3Tx87 Never played 2 but Mercanaries 1 was one of the staples of my childhood. Excellent game for its time! Hunting down the officers from the card deck was an amazing system.
YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!! 😃😃😃😃😃
This and Lost in Random was about all that got me excited from this.
Hopefully they take inspiration from the resi 2 remake. To me that is the gold standard on remaking a game.
@JB_Whiting I really get your frustration as a fellow DS fan, but it's because DS3 ran things into the ground (IMO) that they'll need to reboot. A remake/reimagining of 1 (I'm assuming that's what it is, anyway) followed by a new DS2 and DS3 that make more sense and go in a more horror-themed direction could be really good.
This is good news for those that wanted this. For me personally I refuse to buy any game from EA. Dead Space 4 would have tempted me rather than a boring Remake.
@huntbearpig
Yeah, amazing game I loved it. And the merchant of destruction, being able to blow anything up and call in missiles and air strikes! Awesome. The second one was a bit different, you had to go to NPC's and buy your air strikes and such. The story wasn't as good, a revenge story.
And while the game wasn't as well received as the first I felt that reviewers were a bit harsh on it, it was still very good.
I picked it up again a little while ago on PS3 for 75p, lol. Bargain.
@Fyz306903 Yeah I get that but it was EA than ran DS3 into the ground, not Visceral. Add to that the impossible sales expectations EA had for it and it all but sealed its fate. That's why it makes it all the more bitter that now EA are wanting to relaunch it without the original creators. I am happy that Visceral are doing their own thing with The Callisto Protocol, which, while maybe not being as shiny as this remake, will probably have a tonne more originally in its DNA.
this is great news!!
Awesome news. Day One!
Uh nice. Next Gen only?
I wish they had done a dead space trilogy remaster first then this
@huntbearpig Mercenaries 1 was amazing for me had so much fun with that they really screwed up the second one.
@Reeneman
Yup PS5, Xbox Series and PC only.
If this turns out good, it'll just be all the more reason to get a ps5 as soon as possible. Hoping for the best
Instead of coming up with a new IP they play is safe and remake Dead Space. I love Dead Space but there was no need for this.
@Korgon truth. Still have memories of scaring myself stupid playing F.E.A.R and Dead Space on my PC that had a 5.1 speaker set on and a soundcard to match. I'll never look at F.E.A.R the same way again...
@jcboyer515 Your statement for console or pc exclusives makes sense because they don't benefit the game or the gamer at all. However, next-gen exclusives make the structure and quality of the game, better, so it makes sense to be happy about that.
count me in , day 1
I will buy it if there are no microtransactions. If there are, then EA haven't learned the lesson why the series died.
EA you did good. Now dont screw this up with greed.
Will issac talk in this i wonder. Originally he didnt but found his voice in 2 and 3
Kills Visceral then takes what they created and parades it around like they're hot ***** never change EA eh you worthless scum 😑
@ChrisDeku
No worries. I can wasn’t being an arse.
Just pointing it out.
Happy that dead space is back but I'd rather have a sequel or a reboot. The games still look pretty good.
This is so sick
@fR_eeBritney Nah, not for me. Love remakes and hate remasters.
Day, MF, one!! I'm beyond excited for this.
My parents wouldn't let me play games like Dead Space when it first came out and I've never gotten around to playing any of them. I'm so stoked for this one!
I wish we had a trilogy remaster first but I'm glad it's current gen exclusive at least. I'm mix on the announcement as this is Visceral's baby so I would like to know if they're at least some devs from that team present.
Please buy this people to show EA this is what people want from them (provided it doesn't turn out to be a micro transaction filled mess).
Love this game so much. I hope they don't mess it up
I would be even happier is EA hadn't completely screwed up the original trilogy with bad business decisions and game-altering microtransactions, which ultimately led to the closure of the original studio and the sacking of everyone involved. Nice for EA to see the error of their ways? But do they?
Nothing wrong with Dead Space but this remaster/remake bollocks is already worse than the previous gen. Brand new powerhouse consoles that are said to innovate gaming and yet I see very little of this....its actually pretty boring ...especially for a guy who has gamed from the first day it started.
@GADG3Tx87 i got 3 words for you ... Army of Two. Another franchise that started great and EA fudged it up. First game was really good for it's time. Second one brought the weapon building sys from dead space 3, still a ok game and 3rd one was like .. who cares and that was that.
@Jackpaza0508 rip and tear
Cool.
I never played too far into the original, but it was definitely an excellent horror-action game. Here's hoping the remake lives up to expectations.
Ugh I'll be glad when the remake phase is over. How about a new Dead Space??
One of those games which i have never played, however only know about them as very good from other people opinions who did play.
@Juanalf @trev666 @playstation1995 @kyleforrester87 @JB_Whiting @Ear_wiG @fR_eeBritney Hopefully the first remake will sell well enough for them to also release a Trilogy remaster, to keep the fans distracted until Dead Space 2 & 3 remakes happen.
Though I fear the reason they went the remake route, is because the original devs no longer exist as a team.
Yet another remake. Can we get new (good) games please?
All you had to do EA was release a remastered trilogy and take out the microtransactions of the third game. I am not so interested in a remake.
I'm somehow against the grain (as often) from many reactions I see or so it seems 🤷♂️ Remake beats a remaster for most games IMO. I don't get it. At least it takes a lot of effort to make what is factually a new game from the ground up instead of just the same game more shiny to make easy money.
It can be hit or miss but the enterprise is respectable.
Edit
It's a shame for Viceral but it's a different topic
@shadow2k FEAR needs to come back.
YES!!!! Definitely a day one purchase;)
Great news, looking forward to this one. As others have said if this sells well it will hopefully force EA into making a new game at a later point!
@Dan_ozzzy189 That would be awesome, I absolutely loved FEAR 2 but that might be because I played that one first!
@tselliot Callisto says hello
@KidBoruto Perhaps. But wouldn't it make more sense then, to do a straight forward remaster of the originals if you don't have the original team? That way you're not stepping on any toes by merely polishing up the original source code. With a remake there is room for interpretation and a chance for Motive (ans EA) to "change" things. Like they mentioned they're "improving" the story, which is a wholly subjective thing and I don't think it needs changing... unless maybe giving Isaac a voice. I think I'd be happier with a one to one remake ala Demon's Souls rather than a RE2 reimagining; just give me the exact same game at 4K 60 with Dualsense features and 3D audio!
Considering Motive seems pretty competent and that they're working with series fans, I actually have high hopes for this. I bet EA does remaster the original trilogy by the the time this releases, too. It would take considerably less work than Mass Effect did, because the games have aged incredibly well.
@Jackpaza0508 heck yeah
@Reeneman yup
@JB_Whiting Hmm fair point there. Hopefully they will still do a Trilogy remaster on the side.
@JB_Whiting Im wondering if they havnt done a trilogy remaster because usually remasters dont include multiplayer. so they would of had to take out the multiplayer out of dead space 2 and rip out the online co-op out of dead space 3 along with the microtransacations.
@Dan_ozzzy189 Agreed. It was very ahead of its time, I think it would work fantastically on new hardware.
This is going to look amazing with 4k HDR, ray-tracing and all the souped-up bells & whistles the PS5 can muster. Hopefully they'll get the audio right as that's just as important. - Headphones on, lights off and me screaming like a big girls blouse!
yea I’m interested now it’s exclusive.
@KippDynamite Dead Space 3 wasn't what ultimately lead to Visceral closing. It was the troubled development of Battlefield Hardlines and the fact they couldn't get a working Star Wars title released that lead to the closure.
