Re: Sony Seemingly Doubles Down on Poorly Updated Party System for PS5

dellyrascal

Can see to a point what they were aiming for, but they seem to under-estimate that most players tend to have a core group they hang out with... so alot of the extension of this whole thing is nice, but arguably unnecersary too.

Also feel that this is not integrated as well as they hoped with the PS4, so if its a bit more instantanious on the PS5, then i guess it wont be so much a hassle.. Getting into parties after the update, seems to take longer, but then that could be down to a billlion and one things outside of the app / service itself

Re: Harry Potter Author J.K. Rowling Is Not Involved with Hogwarts Legacy

dellyrascal

This looks to be a safe statement to make from Portkey, as one, it offers those offended by Rowling, an "out" to still play the franchise, while those that support her won't feel alienated at the same time. Probably about all they can really do...

Ultmately, throwing the team under the bus, isnt doable from a business and job point of view, so this is as safe as they can be without completely ignoring the comments and /or coming across as having a bias one way or the other.

Discussion about such an important subject matter should always be encouraged, its just a shame that in this instance, the game and the devs are going to get some collateral damage and its with little fault of their own doing..

Re: Reaction: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Today's PS5 News

dellyrascal

No major issues for me regards last nite. The pricing of games is always higher when a console is first released. Has been for the 30 plus years Ive been buying consoles/games.. So patience will bear fruit some 6 months down the line or even less with how prices drop so quickly now.... While games on PS5 running lesser versions on Ps4 isn't a deal breaker either, everybody is annoyed at the lack of Sony simply being upfront about it.

Would have liked more info re back compatability, as sitting with a couple hundred games in my library, but for that reason, theres no need to rush out for a new console as yet..

Ps plus add on is good, IF expanded on.. Also interesting that an EA title was included but, so makes you wonder if a less publicised deal with them is gonna happen, which would be good in terms of aligning with Ms gamepass inclusion

Will happily wait and see.. But nothing has changed my mind. I will get one, just a case of when, rather than if..

Re: Hotshot Racing - Cracking Arcade Racer Is a Constant Joy

@InsertGoodName I definitely see your point and agree to an extent.

I don't mind this style personally, it's not something I would look for, infact I do find alot of the retro styling this gen, lazy and at times bordering on a strange retro cash grab, but at the same time I enjoy the likes of Stardew Valley and Curious Expedition which from a graphical point of view could be done on the Megadrive, yet play excellently.

If gameplay holds up, then that's all I want. But that comes from my own weary trudge thru AAA games that look nice and don't hold up gameplay wise..

We can have good gameplay and good aesthetics and we do expect it nowadays, rightly so. but if done the right way, retro styling still has a place I feel.. Then it just comes down to personal taste...

Re: No Man's Sky Dev Is Working on a 'Huge, Ambitious' New Game, Not a Sequel

dellyrascal

Little bit of restraint wouldn't go amiss this time around.

I'll give them their dues for sticking to improving No Mans Sky, but think they got somewhat carried away, aboard the hype train and hopefully they will have learnt their lessons..

Managing expectations is paramount, or any goodwill they have clawed back from those disappointed previously, will disappear just as quick and as much as Hello Games gets criticised, I'd like to see those trying different things, survive and prosper.

Re: Disabled Gamers Raise Concerns Over Decision to Scrap PS4 Pads on PS5

dellyrascal

I can understand the concerns for players with disabilities, whether or not the ability to play will be lessened or even removed at the start of the new gen, especially with the good work that MS have done with disabled gamers in mind recently.

However, it's been a bit of an unprecedented build up so far, especially with the lack of info, pricing etc.. So, you would hope that eventually, Sony will be more forthcoming with information across the board, Including how those with disabilities are catered for, so that they can play with the same freedom, as I am fortunate to have.

I hope this will be the case, as my disabled partner has got into gaming recently, so anything that helps her play and enjoy games in the same way as I do, will be great..

I just feel patience is needed..

Re: PS Plus August 2020 PS4 Games Announced

Fall Guys should be fun, albeit in small bites.

Not sure why the excitement for an old game in COD, but each to their own.. Nearly as bad as having a sport title in PS Plus..

Anyhoo enjoy whatever ya playing out there.

Re: Watch Dogs Legion Hacks London This October on PS4

dellyrascal

@icecube I'm the same mate... Lived in Blackfriars for 25 years before moving down to Crystal Palace and looking forward to seeing the old manor...

Even better, i used to work at the Tower of London and saw the booth i used to take the school group tickets, at what we just called "Middle Drawbridge"

Been waiting for another decent and modern London based open worlder.. Think we may finally have it.

Re: Here's Your First Look at Official PS5 Game Box Art

dellyrascal

Quite the furore about box colours etc across the net.. just imagine if they had to deal with CD cases for albums, with all differing colours a few years back...

As for this, been digital for a long while now, as the last few gens dont have the same appeal as my earlier purchases (megadrive, Saturn, Dreamcast etc) in terms of keeping them for nostalgia / collecting purposes.. More throwaway experiences nowadays, although that isnt always the case admittedly.

If had to choose, i'd go with the PS4 colours, but obviously they want to differentiate between the old and new... even in this simplistic way, so fair enough

Re: PS5 Games Could Cost $10 More Than PS4

dellyrascal

Not too surprised... Super Streetfighter 2 on the Megadrive was £59.99 and I paid nearly £70 for Virtua Racing with the SVP chip in the cart...

Early adopters usually get hammered in terms of RRP over the first six months and then it calms down.. So don't imagine this will be a long terms thing, but if it is, I'll just be more picky and wait for sales..

Re: Alex Kidd Returns to Miracle World on PS4 in 2021

dellyrascal

Alex Kidd in Miracle World was probably the first console game I ever completed (back in't day) aged 11. Be cool to see how I fair at what will be 45 by the time it comes out

I'd love to see Alex Kidd In Shinobi World remade as well.. so if it sells well, we may get lucky.

Re: Don't Expect Assassin's Creed Valhalla to Run at 60 Frames-Per-Second on PS5

dellyrascal

Third party software has always been a dud on new hardware, in terms of showing off said hardware abilities.. Has been the case for years, so not massively surprised.

As we have seen repeatedly, cross gen brings an element of laziness too and lastly it is Ubisoft we are talking about.. They will be more interested in milking the game engine from the last two games and making the screen shots as hi res as possible.

Disappointing to see but not a massive surprise in fairness... Games that are purely for the next gen or games from more accomplished devs will show how lazy Ubisoft are being...

Re: Codemasters Gearing Up to Announce a 'Different' DiRT Racing Game Soon

dellyrascal

Look forward to seeing what they do. DIRT 2.0 is excellent and after grabbing it via Ps Plus, the dlc pass was £15 well spent. Issues with connectivity and old tracks as DLC aside, it's great fun and a great challenge too.

Hopefully they can bring back the race modes from previous versions, to co-exist once more and make a larger package overall, maybe learning from one or two missteps from the last game.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Your PS Plus Games for May 2020?

dellyrascal

All the farming done on Destiny et al and no one wants an actual farming game.. 😂 😂

Seriously though, I have Cities which is decent and farming is quite niche I would assume, so its easily argued that these could have been split up somewhat to give something different, with a different pace and style but not the end of the world for me personally and I do like the curve balls plus throws at times.

To be fair I'm too busy on Streets Of Rage 4, Stranded Deep and last months Dirt 2.0 among others at the moment, so the farming will hit the back catalogue and I may have a look at some point....

Re: Soapbox: I Wish I Was Growing Up with Games Now

dellyrascal

I think the main issue with memories of old gaming, is that its a lot harder to repeat that awe inspiring moment, we've had at different times in our gaming lives. The incremental jumps between generations have become smaller, while games (although capable of new things) tend to be a formula that you can trace back...

I still play Streets Of Rage 2, yet i'll probably be slightly disappointed in SOR 4, no matter how good it is, as barring that beautiful tinge of nostagia, it wont do that much differently.

Some key moments this gen have been nice... Seeing Elite Dangerous and No Mans Sky for all its problems, bring the original premise of Elite from the BBC Micro to modern tech and create a living universe is astounding.

Even something relatively mundane as Football Manager is quite an achievement. The original game of that name was a revelation when you could actually watch match highlights.. The "management" part was basically buy/sell and select ya team. Yet now ya see the modern version and its depth is quite rediculous...

I dont think i'd change what i've experienced personally: couch sessions with friends after school, playing games with my family, even the anticipation and then (regular) disappoinment when the cassette wouldn't load up on my C64... However i can't help but have a small tinge of envy when you see what the equivalent 10 year old sees now and thats just from a visual stand point. Just imagine what he gets to see when he gets to my current age, I mean i'll be near 80 by then, still playing probably...

I might even have completed the Witcher 3 and all the DLC by then.....

Re: Super Mega Baseball 3 Throws a Curveball to PS4 Next Month

dellyrascal

@tomassi you can pick up the first title very cheap now.. Well worth getting into.. The second one was a vast improvement too...

Rules and game mechanics become second nature after short while so do give it a go, if can... Highly recommended, especially if want a quicker, arcade experience.

Re: DOOM Eternal's TV Ad Is Being Torn Apart for Its Shocking Lack of Metal Music

dellyrascal

Doom 2016 had one of the better soundtracks of recent years, so this is an odd choice, but as hinted at already, it's probably easier to digest for many in adverts than metal, although I don't agree with that myself.

Bit weird though, I guess Doom fans like myself will already be on this anyway, so perhaps they thought this music in the ad would attract more of a casual interest in it...

Be interesting to see if anyone complains when it comes out.. Sure there will be someone who will 😁

Looking forward to this hugely...
