Re: You Can Attack 'Most People' in Cyberpunk 2077, But Be Wary of Police and Gangs

dellyrascal

Surely thats just standard fair for most open world games..

Start trouble, people kickoff.. If it didnt react like that, the AI would be quite concerning to be honest..

Regards the first / third person issue, i can understand peoples frustration, especially after the Witcher did a reasonable job.

Although the amount of camera issues this could potentially cause in tight spaces, along with allowing those to spam the camera around corners before walking into enemies could potentially ruin combat to a large extent, although I can only summize here, based on what is out there regards the game.

Others have done a good job in previous games with tight spaces mind, so it must be a design choice. Has there been any explanation other than immersion stated?

Maybe once they ship it, they could add 3rd person for those that want or need it.. have a couple of friends who have motion issues with FPS games so its a shame they will miss out..

Re: Soapbox: Why Sony's PS5 Strategy Will Pay Dividends

dellyrascal

@Bliquid - Guess i glossed over the article. However i stand by my statement of it being naive having reread it, as does your point of it being redundant.

Besides it was late and i was tired, As i assume you were when finishing your response

"We are on a Playstation fansite, we already think all the stuff Sammy wrote." .....

but hey, life goes on..

Re: Soapbox: Why Sony's PS5 Strategy Will Pay Dividends

dellyrascal

Quite a naive article to be honest. Too many assumptions and also referencing Mr. Pachter, is never a great start.

He seems to have contrived to turn Sony's concentrating on big budget games, as "PS5 will only have big budget games", as opposed to developing them alongside the rest of the upcoming library.

Not quite sure how he managed to reach that far. Also when noting the cloud aims of Nintendo and MS, no mention of Google with Stadia, odd indeed...

So, yeah, as someone who also writes for a living, i dont wish to rain on the mans parade, but this is a poor, assumptive piece overall, but it got the clicks i guess..

Re: SEGA Talks About Remaking Yakuza Samurai Spin-Off, Releasing It in the West

dellyrascal

As much as i enjoy the Yakuza games and look forward to eventually playing the Fist of The Northstar and Judgement variants, i do hope they slow down a little,.

I'm all for playing a genre and game style several times or so, but i do worry about oversaturation at this point, especially with the Ichiban character's story arc beginning a new chapter in the series.

There's a fine balance between giving people what they want and deliberately milking a franchise. Just hope Sega dont inadvertantly do more harm than good.

Re: The Famous Cross-Dressing Mission in Final Fantasy VII Is 'More Modern' in the Remake

dellyrascal

@Flaming_Kaiser

Yeah that i have never understood either, for all the sensibilities we like to believe we have in the west, the demonization of homosexuality is no better than the supposed civilisations those same people pour scorn on, yet they'll happily defend the sexualisation you mention.

The worlds just weird... I've come to that conclusion a long while ago and i don't think anything will change it.

Re: The Famous Cross-Dressing Mission in Final Fantasy VII Is 'More Modern' in the Remake

dellyrascal

Considering Sega removed an exceptionally effeminate Gay character called Ash, from the western release of Bare Knuckle 3 back in 1994, due to homosexual sterotyping, I dont see why this is also such a big issue, devs have made decisions like this for years.

I've been playing games for nearly 40 years and it's only in recent times that games have started to change for the better in most part, regarding the portrayal of different people in society.

Designers and creators should take the greater world into consideration, as my reference above states, its not anything new and there are always going to be older games that dont look good to modern eyes or look "old fashioned" in the imagery they portray. This section of Final isnt exactly Custers Last Stand, however I can see why it may need to be "updated" to address the modern societal changes in attitude or from a design point of view abd thats fair enough. Not everyone will be happy, but ultimately the Dev has control.

I just dont want the medium I love, sanitised to the point of being completely numb to the world and its nuancies, both good and bad.

The internet is wonderous, but the amount of games that social media are trying to shackle for even the most innocuous of reasons is becoming tiring and concerning...

Re: Sony and Microsoft Announce 'Strategic Partnership' on Various Tech Innovations, Including the Evolution of PlayStation

dellyrascal

Wait, the war between Commodore 64 and Spectrum is over?

On topic though, this makes sense structurally for Sony, with what they wish to achieve in the future. Arguably a cheaper and pre-built option that makes sense.

Be interesting to see if the initial good will between them extends further in the future, especially with cross play and maybe one day cross streaming, as you would still be at the behest of each individual company for the games, no matter what box ya streamed it through.

Re: Nintendo Switch Overtakes PS4's Lifetime Sales in Japan

dellyrascal

Not a surprise, even when i went to Tokyo some five years ago, the one thing that i noticed in gaming stores was handheld titles dominating and big ads for mobile games, like we have only recently had in the UK.

Globalism has changed Sonys focus but Nintendos success there is understandable.

Re: Does Borderlands 3 Have Microtransactions? Yes, But Gearbox Says They're Only Cosmetic

dellyrascal

I can see where they are coming from, albeit i'm still a little pessimistic.

Leveraging the very good will for this game is fine, but to a point. Assuming the content level and quality after release is as good as the Borderlands 2 dlc, no one will be too annoyed.

Its, if they do this and the game becomes a shadow of itself that the rough times will come and rightly so..

I hold my breath and just hope for something as good as I hope and to be as enjoyable and time investing as B2. Its really all i want...

Re: Snooker 19 - Solid PS4 Potter Is Right on Cue

dellyrascal

@stBoa @get2sammyb. The clock is a good idea to certainly stop any liberties being taken, but deffo needs to be extended..

Enjoyable game overall though, break building is pretty good.. got a 136 as best break so far and i put it down to that, along with a litle skill!

Re: Reaction: Sony's Surprise PS5 Reveal Was a Stroke of Genius

dellyrascal

Perfectly adequate play from Sony and Mr.Cerny in my opinion.

Having him on the that State Of Play would have been nonsensical considering he could not show anything directly and would have just looked ill judged in my opinion.

Doing it via an article that relates to a behind closed doors reveal of sorts, including the demonstration: First gives some sort of proof of several ideas and concept to the article writers and secondly: spurs on positive responses.

By doing it this way, they have left some room for maneouvre too, in terms of hardware, if say a company ups the specs ante so to speak.

And fundamentally, it lets them message their more enthusiastic fans / userbase by letting them know all is currently "in-hand", with the expected backwards compatability reassuring those with a large investment in the relatively small PSN eco system.

Its going to be interesting to see where this all goes, with MS adjusting their XBox course to cover a larger variety of devices away from the console itself, and of course the new players on the block in terms of stadia etc.>

Exciting times ahead and i look forward to seeing the direction Sony and the rest take in the next year or so.

Re: Sony's Censorship Guidelines Tackle Sexually Explicit Depictions of Underage Characters

dellyrascal

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of censoring games for whatever reasons, the bottom line is that the company has decided to go down a path of its own accord and it has that right, just as those who oppose these things also have a right to go elsewhere for their tastes. I'm no moralistic high ground taker by a long shot, but i have my opinions on what is right or wrong from my upbringing and cultural exposure and make my decisions that way, as its the only way.

And with that, no one will ever be completely happy. Its the nature of the situation when you factor these simple things in, along with age, life experiences etc.

I dont particualrly have an interest in the sort of games mentioned, i in fact find them a little tasteless and they often give off a preconception of underage characters that are sexualised, however if the regulatory boards are not stopping these releases featuring certain content, then who am i to argue, regardless of my personal opinion on them,

So are the rules wrong? outdated?

I mean, do they see the minigames? do they play them to get to see the content? Do they believe the content is okay to view or play?

I would like to understand why, not from a basis of my own opinion, but to understand how they interpret the content themselves, which would in turn lead to better understanding of this whole mess, more for my idle curiosity about this particular section of censorship.

Social media is having such a huge influence of late and bringing certain behaviours /ideaologies etc to the surface. Introspection across the board, is a massive thing now, which in a lot of aspects is great, but what we must do, is be wary of using this to adapt others into changing things for the sake of it. That is quite the challenge and for many, very difficult. Not all subjects can be dealt with in broad strokes and censorship is one of them

Large companies are now also at the behest of this introspective time too and yes some companies like Sony have decided to make a stance (albeit in a very unbalanced manner) on certain types of content, while others have not..

This isnt something new, even within gaming.. I remember when the stereotype of Ash, the gay boss in Streets Of Rage 3 was removed for the western release by Sega back in the day due to potential offense. While something like Custers Last Stand would never exist in today's climate... thankfully.

As for the answer to it all, i dont know...but the lines of common decency and censorship continue to shift back and forth, and will do for decades to come.

Re: Talking Point: Should All Games Have an Easy Mode?

dellyrascal

I will try and play games on the hardest setting available but at the same time, i have had instances where i've been so stuck and thus annoyed that i have dropped it down, only to put it back up immediately.

Ultimately AI balancing has a lot to do with this... If easy mode dumbs down the AI to a rediculous level then it defeats the purpose, while on the other hand, if enemies become say "bullet sponges", then it can come across as unfair to a degree.

My favourite difficulty setting for any game was "Maniac Mode" on Streets Of Rage 2... Enemies had massive energy bars, but were still balanced in terms of their abilities and damage output...

Another old fave was the Terminator: Salvation game on PS3, that was well balanced too..

Re: Soapbox: Sony's Server Shutdown Strategy Is Making the Publisher a Laughing Stock

dellyrascal

Id say GT sport will only happen once a new one comes along. As the current success of the e-sport side of things is that it was ultimately intended for that purpose...

Im not a fan of how this has headed, this is a symptom of the online connectivity nowadays, with games as service and MT's slowly dominating...

Some games work it well to a degree... Others not so.. Im currently enjoying Division 2 , a game really built for multiplayer and so when it eventually dies i wont miss it in later life, not as much as say a Driveclub, whose single player content was eventually strong and will be hamstrung by the lack of connectivity which was baked into the single player modes.

I feel sorry for younger potential retro gamers of the future. im fortunate enough to have grown with the Master System n Megadrive and most of my classics are around and unaffected, but for the later generations who will look to do as i do and play their retro titles when older, its going to be disappointing for many, thanks to they way games are made now...

As much as i get that numbers of player dwindle over time, is it really a massive issue enough for Sony to kill them off in this way... I dont believe so...

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play Livestream?

dellyrascal

It was in essence just a promo vid and it did the job to be fair.. I'd like to see a message from a human being at the beginning or something, just to add a bit of personality to it and maybe incorporate the PSPlus announcements with it, but on the whole, it was fine, nothing spectacular, but fine..

Not sure what people were expecting to be honest, if this is going to be a regular thing, the expectation of mindblowing announcements seems a little naive at this early juncture (albeit understandable given the last year or so of game releases). Yes it would have arguably helped it kick-off in style, but they would just be setting themselves up for a fall, so playing it safe, made sense on its debut imo...

Re: The Division 2 - With a Few Tweaks, This Could Be Something Special

dellyrascal

The scaling is a problem, on missions and open world, some of my friends have been ten levels lower and its scaled fine on both gunplay and damage taken..

The main issue is when a player hits 30 with the added tiers.

Once again in the mission and open world areas seems okay, but when we go into the Dark Zone, it didnt go well...

Myself Lvl 26, my cousin lvl 28 and friend Lvl 11 were okay in DZ 3 against the AI and the scaling was fine, but as soon as another came in (Lvl30 - Gear score 456), the enemies absolutely annihilated us!

We left and did some side missions, with the group as it was and it scaled down once more... So they seem to have half fixed it at the moment...

otherwise very good game. much more streamlined than the previous. Lessons have been learnt and despite my concerns before playing, I am quite happy. The longevity with the end game content also looks to be hitting the spot, according to my higher level friends too..

Re: Round Up: The Division 2 PS4 Reviews Start Relatively Strong

dellyrascal

So far its tonnes better than the first version, even after its updates..

Gunplay feels more refined, and despite a few bullet sponge moments, the enemies do generally react to being hit this time around, while actually having some tactical ability in their AI routines... Which is a vast improvement.

The world is more compelling and even the dark zone (which i hated) has been adapted to try and be more accessable for players of all strengths.

A good start to the life of this one, with a bit more depth added to what is a simple premise..

I can see why some have not wanted to take a punt on this, after previous issues, with scepticism from me too..

But so far, so good

Just hope Ubisoft dont ubisoft it up...

Re: Xenon Racer Zooms onto PS4 on 26th March

dellyrascal

When i saw Xenon, my thoughts turned to Xenon 2 Megablast back in the day!

Alas despite my mild disappointment, this looks good reminds a little of the old racer Motorhead..

PS had to look at it via Youtube as the vid didnt work on this page... Not sure if me or the page mind..

Re: Soapbox: Crackdown 3 Is Proof That Microsoft Is Still Playing Catch-Up to Sony

dellyrascal

I had the original and the 360 before this gen and loved them. Lapping up sequels and so on. Yet even before the current consoles came out, i felt that the focus on their figurehead games: Forza, Halo and Gears among others was becoming almost too important and I got a bit fatigued by more of the same, although this could apply to any console brand used over a period of time.

I ended up grabbing a PS4 and well, i now have a ps3 and Vita along with it.. Thats not to say i have any problem with MS, i just think the direction they were heading for, was not for me. And... thats not also to say that anyone is perfect, Sony have dropped the ball often themselves, but MS have continually made me realise I was right to do so for my gaming needs and I hazard a guess, there were quite a few out there that have made similar decisions. Who knows maybe i will change in years to come, but that depends on many factors

The example given in Crackdown 3 is more a reference to the lack of progression MS seem to have with its big IP's, with the exception of Forza, which goes from strength to strength, while it has somehow failed to ignite the fuse with what were potentially exciting and big new titles over the last few years.

For all its promise, MS may have been better off canning C3, but i guess having done this previously, perhaps further disappointing their userbase with a cancellation was not the best idea.

I woudnt say they have failed as numbers speak for themselves still, regardless of how far they are "behind" in the cobblers that is the "console war" .

They however do definitely need to change tact somewhere, although how, i'm not sure. Bottom line is we need competition. At least that way, no one will rest on their laurels and we as gamers across varying formats get the best efforts made... most of the time.

Re: Sony Says Devs Only Have to Ask for Console Cross-Play, Studios Say It's Lying

dellyrascal

Dont see why there is such a problem getting this done, if exceptions have already been made to be honest.

The one thing i like about the whole crossplay idea is that some games with online communities would last a bit longer in one big communual area, as opposed to splintered remains that die off... Certainly would give smaller games a fighting chance, with even good ones dying off after a while...

Anyhoo, sounds more like a complete cock-up in communication than anything else...
