I remember going to the original Cex off Tottenham Court Road back in 1996. got my Saturn modded to run Japanese software and a 50/60hz switch too... Bought Streetfighter Zero 2 on import as well...
Was a wonderful place to go, all the import titles, see stuff like the Neo-Geo which was out of my financial powers then and older consoles... i remember i'd spend at least an hour in there before rushing back home to Blackfriars to play my latest purchase..
I love my gaming still and although the flow of constant info is amazing this day and age, i do miss that sense of discovery.
I had a reminding taster when in Tokyo a few years back. Going into a retro game store made me feel like a big kid again.
Sony's done well to keep the firmware away from being broken this long in all honesty.
Regards talking about this... when PES 2018 came out, a guy asked on the forum about option files and where to get them, yet the post was shut down, something to do with potential copyright infringement and modding, despite the game allowing these files.
Despite being a little annoyed, that I couldnt help the fellow community member out, i thought fair enough and yet here we are with our hosts now talking about the potential copyright infringement of Klonoa 2 on this modded OS...
If ya gonna make rules and regs for us, do me a favour and be transparent enough to follow them as well, and not just ignore it coz its a slow news day...
I love the site but double standards are a bit much.
A sorting out of pricing is paramount. The fact that these games drop in price after barely two months at times, means they are blatantly trying to milk those who do want it immediately and in digital, regardless of opinion on that way of purchasing.
And of course the simple fact that digital should be cheaper than physical anyway,,,
Also sort out the store front to make things a bit easier to find and also streamline it so that it works quicker and is stable (it runs like a joke, considering how many stability updates we get)
Nice idea and i know a couple of friends whose kids struggle with the DS4's, so if it lets them game properly then good stuff.
Personally, the standard pad is fine for me, and even though i may have entertained it, the lack of headphone jack especially is a bit of a killer, although i completely understand why...
The old attitudes to videogames apply once again. "They are for kids" / "Serious themes should not be discussed etc".
Bottom line is that they are regulated with age restrictions, so if any child witnesses this scene, then the reality is that the parents are responsible, not the devs, while the potential influence on anyone else, despite being feasible at best, is rather moot considering the current state of tv and movies anyway.
Games are a medium like anything else so should be treated the same.. Like a movie, TV show, music etc....Recommendations and restrictions by the BBFC are one thing, but people getting on their high horse because it scores "brownie points" do not help any sort of sensible discussion, if there is actually a genuine need to do so
Bit disappointing but with Wolfenstein 2 and GT Sport i'm more than busy gaming wise, Cant say im surprised considering the amount of games that have been available via discounts this last week or so, but i'd rather have a couple of PS Now games instead..
I remember paying £70 for Virtua Racing with the SVP chip or whatever it was called and £60 for the 32mg cart of Super Streetfighter 2... Pricing is fine as it is... honestly...
"Take risky action in the hope of a desired result".
You can slice it as many ways as you want...it is what it is...
The crazy thing from my point of view. (write sports articles and have to look at betting odds) is that EA do not have to even disclose the potential odds of picking up what the player wants via this gamble. Even fruit machines have to state the percentage of payouts...
No one should be asked to gamble (at their own risk) anything without being told the mathematical odds of this happening.. It doesnt happen in sports betting, so why is this any different, considering the age groups that are involved
@LieutenantFatman Have to agree with you on that, dont' really get how people that are better than another players should get more of an advantage, always seemed counter -intuitive..
Well a seven outta ten is a long way from a cat-astrophe but just a whisker away from a purr-fect game, which is good.. Any lower and i would have paws-ed to think about buying it and given the devs a flea in their ear.

Pretty rubbish for those who don't have a connection and in an ideal world it shouldn't be the case, but the days of me being able to play my old games have been numbered for a console generation or two at least, with this adding another nail in that particular coffin.
Besides, the likes of Acti and EA only put the single-player in as a tradition nowadays, until they can find a way to siphon off the MP into its own IP

I'm so happy with these reviews, i was Goering on the side of caution being the follow up to such a great game, but it looks like they have knocked it out of the park...
As many have said, if they don't affect the game, then no problem, but if the idea of Loot Boxes /microtransactions / virtual currency not only continues, but actually thrives, then the next logical step for devs will be to make the core experience a massive grind, which will suck the joy out of most IP's... Dead Space 3 anyone?
Hopefully it doesn't get that far, but I guess the main cause for concern isnt so much the loot boxes / Microtransactions / virtual currency themselves, but the ruining of perfectly working games that have no need to be messed with in this way...
The only good thing happening with this regard, is that already most have woken to the potential practices these companies have started to use and dont give it a second look and simply ignore it..

I'd say ultimately its mere brownie points that the MS execs will get, for being so "I just dont understand why they wont play with us" each time the same question is asked.
Arguably that is all they can say, but considering the idea that Xbox, PC and other devices can play together on say a Minecraft or whatever, I would have thought trumpeting that would be more beneficial to them overall..
"Look, you can play with your friends on these different devices together", is a cool thing when you look at it from the outside and i am surprised they really are not pushing this hard...
Maybe the millions of ps4's that could potentially be involved is seen as a loss of potential revenue somehow for them, but ultimately the question has been answered so many times now and really there isn't much mileage left if Sony have said no...
The ONLY thing that I can see changing this is something like PUBG, depending on how its handled... Arguably along with Minecraft, this would be the best game to trial a completely open, cross network game... alas I dont think it will happen
Regardless of my opinion on the subject as a whole, the one thing that does strike me, is the incoherent desperation by the devs.
Now that game shelf lives are pretty short, before discounting etc kicks-in and/or the product is usurped by something "newer", the ultimate need to make money in the quickest way possible is becoming more unscrupulous than ever.. yet these same devs bang on about a game as a service...
As per usual, their cake and eat it philosophy is there for all to see and I only forsee it getting worse before getting better.
Didnt Fight Night have the Burger King on 360... Then there was Cool Spot.the Fido Dido game, the McDonalds game called Global Gladiators on megadrive alone...
Dont get why everyone is getting knickers in a twist over advertising going hand in hand with the empty husks that are valueless trophies.. arguably they are the perfect coupling of instantly forgettable and meaningless information.
Not too fussed to be fair, as enough to play at moment, but something a little different would be nice.. say a couple of PS Now rentals or something..
Their recent months have been good comparatively, but Sony do need to keep the momentum going, whether more solid titles or something different being done.
Odd, i'm sure i saw a Virtual On game in Tokyo arcades when there about 3-4 years ago...I would have expected that, but if done well, a story based game could work..
Remember buying the original on Saturn back in the day, was excellent back then...
Spot on review Sam, its definitely been refined for this year, albeit with a few glaring issues.
The option files for editing are even easier to use now, which nullifies the licensing completely in my opinion.
Gameplay has improved all around, while the online is actually stable and usable, which is about time..
The master league issue is an odd one that they have not really found a solution to, while the commentary is just awful.. Its got worse as they have started to speak over each other which I assume is a bug, otherwise thats poor.
Anybody wanting option files to update the fake names. search for pesgaming.. no dodgy people trying to charge money, just posted for free.
The current algorithm used for you played this, we recommend this on the store is flawed beyond measure... So get rid of that for a start
Have one icon for each game and then when you go into the game page, the options present themselves,. Also sales need to distinguish between games and DLC better too..
I dont want curation for my games, as that then stops others being seen, although some quality control is needed. As much as games come with day one patches and bugs, games that simply do not function as intended should not be greenlighted at all...
Many years ago i worked as a QA tester on EA's European Certification team in Chertsey, which made sure games passed some solid tests under the rules that both Sony and MS set for their console games functionality. I do believe that since those checks were removed to aide smaller devs, the quality assurance on games has gone down the toilet across the industry, as time is money etc etc...
Something needs to be done by Sony to readdress this, to at least stop PSN becoming the new Steam for shovelware and other pointless tat that has been stuck up there for a quick pound note.
Played the FIFA demo last night and its an improvement, but the gameplay despite being better is still sluggish responsiveness wise.. Presentation is second to none as ever, but think i might be hitting PES again for gameplay once again..
Looks like we will all be spoilt once again this year
Still remember playing the original and being amazed, walking for the first time into town was one of my top gaming memories, with what was for the time period a beautifully crafted environment.
There is a part of me that feels it should be left where it is though, as it will inevitably be criticised for its more basic feel, compared to modern day equivalents and I dont want to see it devalued in any way..
But I can see why it would be a good move commercially.
Top Tip: If ya smashing the tournaments, play on "Serious Mode", it doubles winnings and XP, which helps push progression quicker
Played it most of the evening last nite and I have to say, once you get past the grindy nature, its a fun game.
The core machanics are spot on and the levelling of clubs is a neat idea. However I would agree with the review. This is not as fun as the last Vita version I played for instance.
The multiplayer could do with a bit more to it and despite the Turf Wars being a decent idea, its a little meh, after a few games and despite there being plenty of people around, the "interaction" is a little limited.
The core single player game is something I am gonna persevere with, just for the gameplay alone, as I am personally enjoying it, but I can see how the slow progression, especially early on, could put newer players off.
Also I have to say, I have beaten five sets of bosses (3 per level) so far and I have only failed to beat one, once, which is a little disappointing...
I cant say i'm surprised by this, considering the processing power advantage among other things.
Barring Nintendo, who obviously do things their own way, This is arguably good for PS owners. MS put some extra effort in to bringing the X with those specs as it stands, so it will (should) inspire Sony when they start to dev their next hardware
I dont particularly want an X, having switched over after the fat Xbox and 360, for starters i dont own a 4k screen and am happy with what i have, however for those buying one, enjoy, hope it gives exactly what ya want.. And overall it can only be a plus point in the future development of consoles
Doable to be fair... Bearing in mind ya can go back to the easier courses with big clubs..
Genuinely looking forward to this.. I love the Golf CLub 2 but but Im still smashing Everybodys Golf on Vita more than that... Plus the Hotshots beta was decent...

Genuinely looking forward to this.. I love the Golf CLub 2 but but Im still smashing Everybodys Golf on Vita more than that... Plus the Hotshots beta was decent...
Re: Review: Yakuza: Kiwami (PS4)
But... but......"This site gave a golfing game a 7/10. Enough said."
Love the demand for a higher review due to some vested interest, yet a game he cant stand (i assume) deserves less by default
nice open minded thought processes... should be a reviewer..
Re: PlayStation EU Teaser for 'Something New' Has Got People Talking
Pro price drop to try n put pressure on XBX release (not that it will make much impression tbh) or some sort of GT Sport package.
Unless there is a table underneath, it looks more like a giant advertising cut out/shape..
Anyhoo no rush, i cant keep up with games i have, let alone more hardware/game bundles.
