The current generation is rife with retro remakes and remasters, but they don't get much more retro than this. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX has been announced for PlayStation 4, and it's a full remake of the character's very first game. It dates back to 1986 on SEGA's Master System, and it's now getting a major facelift for a modern release.
Alex Kidd used to be seen as SEGA's mascot until a certain hedgehog rolled into view -- it's a series that commanded a lot of respect back in the day. As you can see in the debut trailer for the remake, it's a no nonsense action platformer about jumping through levels and taking out baddies.
Aside from the obvious improvements to the visuals and sound, DX is set to feature brand new levels, new modes such as Boss Rush, alternative boss fights, and a retro mode so you can play the old way.
This follows in the footsteps of other SEGA revivals; Sonic Mania brought Genesis-era hedgehog action back, Streets of Rage 4 recently revived the beat-'em-up, and now it's Alex Kidd's turn. The game is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2021 on PS4. Additionally, because Sony requires all PS4 games to be compatible with PS5 starting in July, it'll definitely be playable on the next-gen system too.

I actually remember playing this.
Wasn't keen on the trailer music but it looks nice, I had this built into my Master System and really enjoyed it but there's nothing special about it apart from my memories. I don't see myself picking this one up unless its really cheap
I actually loved this game.
Remember it was built in to the sega master system 2, I got one for my 8th birthday wrapped in newspaper and hidden in the snack cupboard. Remember it like it was yesterday. Definitely getting that!
@carlos82 I'm pretty much in the same boat, I never had it built in as I think that was only on the Master System 2 (I had safari hunt and hang on - Master System 1) but I did play a bit of it on cartridge and enjoyed it back then but doubt it will hold much interest these days, I always preferred Wonder Boy
Oh wow this brings back some memories. Actually preferred this and the Wonderboy games (which I know some have already been remade) to Sonic.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World was probably the first console game I ever completed (back in't day) aged 11. Be cool to see how I fair at what will be 45 by the time it comes out
I'd love to see Alex Kidd In Shinobi World remade as well.. so if it sells well, we may get lucky.
Oh my god. This is awesome. So many great memories of this game with my family as a kidd. Cant wait to revisit it and introduce my little ones to it. I'm so excited for this.
I think I bought the original of this on Ps3 as I remember beating it as I couldn’t play it when I was little. Or played badly ha
I'm still not having that this series wasn't called "Alex the Kid" at some point. It just was!
I'm definitely down for this though. Really liked these games back in the day
Alex keeps me cold as ice, but if there would come remake of Golden Axe or Felix the Cat than it would be hellfire. ☺️
I thought this would be the Dreamcast 2 series X exclusive though-too soon?!
Yeah this is actually pretty cool
He looks like Wreck It Ralph lol
I got this pre installed with my Sega Master System II it was either that or Sonic the Hedgehog pre built. It was rock hard I remember beating Scissor Head and then I couldn't get past the castle or levels after it.
Never played it looks cool.
Alex Kidd telling Sonic to move over.
I never played any of the originals, but definitely know a friend that will be happy about this.
