PS3 had the best themes with wallpapers, icons, sounds and music that would customize the look and sound of everything. Hard to believe with technology being what it is these days we can’t have that with the current console generation.
Still working my way through DYING LIGHT: The Beast. It’s a really good game but I have to say, there are some design choices in it that are beyond frustrating. Lack of fast travel is probably the #1 culprit here but there are a few others. Otherwise it’s a pretty solid mix of the best parts of the other two games. Hope everyone has a great weekend gaming!
@get2sammyb For the most part, I'm pretty ambivalent about SBM but I will say, the world doesn't operate that way in competition for many things such as jobs, life mates or especially on an actual battlefield itself so if we're going for a more 'realistic' approach, as some people are, I'd say it's actually the way to go to eliminate SBM. But maybe the happy medium here is to have SBM for general / casual matches but eliminate it for ranked play? Just a thought....
I thoroughly enjoy FPS games, but Battlefield has done everything it can in the past few years to make it ROCK SOLID that I'll NEVER buy a BF game at launch or anywhere near it ever again, no matter how good the initial reviews and reports are. After the past few releases being so absolutely undercooked and piss poor at launch I'll never get them out of the gate again. Sure - I'll pick it up and play it many months down the road after the inevitable patches have been put into effect and there's maybe even a sale or price drop but I'm done with Battlefield at or near it's release window. There's always too much else out ther at this time of year to spend my hard earned $$ on. On the other hand, I play COD every year with some friends and regradless of whether one yearly iteration is better or worse than the last or other previous ones, I can always count on it being a solid, fun to play and technically well executed game every single solitary year.........which is a LOT more than I can say for BF. So, it'll be COD day one for me and BF6 many months down the line.
I guess it kind of depends on how they / we are defining 'new'? Is 'new' a brand new, full MSRP priced game? Or is it just any 'new' game I haven't previously purchased before whether it's on sale or at full MSRP? If the former, then yeah - maybe a few times year as I try to save money where I can and I can patiently wait a year or more to play most games. But if the latter then yeah, I but a new game every time I finish the last one I played which averages out to about one a month or so, give or take.
I’ll be getting the physical edition at some point but I’ve learned my lesson with BF games at launch after V and 2042 which were utterly TERRIBLE at launch and for a good long while afterwards.
@Czar_Khastik I can't speak for @Fiendish-Beaver but see my post above on a few thoughts on Cronos. If you like survival horror and / or Dead Space you will really enjoy CRONOS: The New Dawn. Absolutely amazing game for sure. Hope you're doing well m8!
CRONOS The New Dawn is not only the best game in September '25 for me but also GOTY thus far as well. It's just so good at everything it does and has such an incredible atmosphere.Everything about it is just amazing. Sure, it borrows heavily from Dead Space and Resident Evil and even a little bit from Silent Hill, but it really comes together as something all it's own. The graphics are incredible, the sound design & score is amazing, the mechanics are fun and it really nails the whole survival horror gameplay with thoughtful inventory management, fair but tough difficulty and an oppressive atmosphere. Highly recommended if you like survival horror.
DYING LIGHT: The Beast for me this weekend. I have to say this is probably the best and most refined version of Dying Light that Techland has ever done. REALLY solid game!
Thanks but, uh, I have a nice red Sharpie and some white controllers so I can do this myself. But between this and the new 'rewards' program, Sony sure is knocking the cover off the ball lately! 🙄🤦🏽🤣
@Alps_Stranger LMAO - combined w your avatar, I get your handle reference. Probably the greatest overdub on TV of cussing in a movie EVER. Hahahahahaha
Story is one of the least ineteresting aspects of a game for me and I have little or no problem skipping over dialogue just so I can get to why I play a videogame in the first place - to actually, you know, play them. So even if the story-telling is pretty 'samey' I didn't really notice nor do I really care either. I just want good / fun mechanics in a game along with great graphics, excellent sound design, few bugs (if any) a solid framerate and if the story is good then great. If not whatever. Just my 2 cents worth......
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah m8! For sure. To me a game is measured PURELY on how much of a good time you have playing it and for me, nothing came out this year that matched how much fun I had with Cronos TND. Sure we can all critique graphics, story, sound design, frame rate, mechanics, etc., but it really just comes down to: how fun was it? And man oh man Cronos was a LOT of fun! And while I'm at it, the sound design and OST was amazing too! Cheers!
CRONOS: The New Dawn is GOTY for me thus far in ‘25. Sure the game borrows HEAVILY from Dead Space and blends it with Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but it’s somehow its own thing and absolutely brilliant. Definitely looking forward to a sequel in the next few years! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I’ll be starting my NG+ run on Hard difficulty of CRONOS: The New Dawn. Super impressed with the game! It takes heavily from Dead Space and blends it with Resident Evil and Silent Hill to make a very solid, extremely fun and incredibly creepy new IP all its own. I dare say it’s my GOTY thus far based solely on how much enjoyment I’ve gotten out of it, which after all, is why we play games to begin with. That said, I hope everyone enjoys whatever they’re playing this weekend. Cheers!
I'm perfectly fine with this but I'd really like to see occasional updates with additional trophies added to the trophy stack. Just the kind of gamer I am....
Who's getting rewarded here?!?!?! Not us, the players. It's Sony because we get the 'reward' of an opportunity to give them more of our money. What brain dead executive over there thought this one up and who are the idiots that approved it??? How about actually rewarding us with FREEBIES of some kind for us already spending our hard earned $$ with you? IDIOTS.....
I've been looking forward to this game as it looks like a lot of fun, but I doubt I'll be getting it at launch due to the glut of other games coming out and that will already be out by then that I want to play. Still, I'll definitely be getting around to this at some point.
My campaign of cleaning up some games and getting them to 100% trophy completion has taken me to CASTLEVANIA: Lords Of Shadow on the PS3. Haven’t played it since 2010 but I’m rather enjoying a return to it. Of course, now I finally have my physical copy of CRONOS: The New Dawn which I’ve REALLY been looking forward to, but as one who doesn’t like to play multiple games at once so as not to confuse control schemes, I guess I ‘ll wait on it another week or so. LOL first world problems for sure. Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys whatever they’re playing!
@Czar_Khastik Thanks bud - that’s a VERY comprehensive post full of good information that helps me understand why so many people love this game. I see your posts on this site fairly often extolling its virtues. Unfortunately, turn-based games are the farthest thing from what I actually like in a video game so it’s a hard pass for me but it does sound like if ever I was going to give a turn based game a shot this would probably be it.
@LordAinsley Thanks for the info m8! I appreciate it. Yeah - hard pass on the turn-based combat. It’s just not my thing by a country mile. Shame too as a lot of people really seem to love the game.
So, what is it about this game that is SO GREAT? Someone sell me on this game. I’m not adverse to RPG’s at all but nothing ever really drew me to this title. What’s it like? What is it comparable to? Someone change my mind. One caveat tho - is this a turn-based game? If so, I’m out. I utterly detest turn based games
I’ve been cleaning up some trophies in games I want a 100% on while I wait for the physical copy of CRONOS The New Dawn to come out. So, currently I’m working on the DLC for The Surge, which I haven’t played in years so it’s taking some getting used to. Other than that I’ll be watching my Detroit Lions hopefully get their first win of the season. Hope everyone enjoys whatever they’re playing this weekend!
I'll get around to this game sooner or later. I've played all of them to this point and enjoyed them all to varying degrees, but gone are the days of just blindly pre-ordering them. At this point I can wait for sales and price-drops due to the fact they're all kind of 'same-y' and the sheer amount of other games coming out I want to play.
While I'm old enough to have gotten an Atari 2600 when they first came out (along with a Coleco-vision, Intellivision, Nintendo 64 and a few others), I never got a PlayStation until early in the PS3 era........which was a GREAT era in videogames, IMHO.
I thought I’d be diving into CRONOS: The New Dawn this weekend as I preordered the physical edition of the game, but for whatever reason it doesn’t come out for another 2 weeks or so 🫤. Instead I’m cleaning up some trophies in the first DLC pack of Fenyx Rising in order to get 100% on that game. So I’ll be doing that and watching my Detroit Lions start their season on Sunday. Hope everyone has a good time with whatever they’re getting stuck into this weekend. Happy gaming all!
Really glad to hear this turrned out well. I did something I rarely ever do which is pre-order a new IP but I did so with this title and I'm itching to play it.
Like anything, it all depends on who makes it and how good of a job they do with it. COD is pretty ripe material for Hollywood as it is and considering it always has some big set pieces in every campaign, who knows? It could turn out far better than expected. I never thought Baywatch or Barbie would be any good but they were better than they had any right to be and I like a good military actioner as much as the next person so…. 🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽
I'd really like to play this but the big detraction for me as a hardcore trophy hunter is the 10,000 online kills trophy. I honestly just don't have time for that and with all the games coming out the rest of '25 and into '26, it makes it all the easier to pass on this, which I'm likely going to do. Besides, $40 for what's essentially an almost 20 year old game is too steep a price for me as well. **MAYBE** once the game is on sale or has had a price cut and I can find someone to boost the kills with I might give it a shot but it's unlikely.
Absolutely nothing of interest for me, personally.........which is typical. But that's fine - there's 9 games coming out in the remainder of the year I want to play so I'm not pressed for something to play.
I just have one trophy left for 100% in Resident Evil 7 which is to complete the DLC mode Ethan Must Die. It’s fairly challenging so it may take the weekend to get it done. I’ve really enjoyed the variety and amount of content the DLC for RE7 offers. Wish more games did their DLC like that. Hope everyone enjoys whatever they’re playing this weekend!!

All in all....... I chose wisely
I grabbed all the DLC for Resident Evil 7 recently in a sale for $10 so I’m working on playing through all that. I have to say the amount of content and variety of it is quite impressive. That’s probably the best DLC Resident Evil has ever done. And some of it is quite difficult too! Hope everyone enjoys whatever they’re playing this weekend!
This is great to hear! I quite enjoyed the first one and thought the dual world mechanic was an excellent addition / improvement on the Souls formula. Will be eagerly looking to pick this up when it releases.
Unfortunately I’m not gonna have a lot of time to game again this weekend as I’m still dealing with some family drama but what time I will have will be spent finishing up the platinum for Dying Light 2. Just finished the DLC for it yesterday so I’m hoping to make good progress on the last 3 trophies I have left for collectibles and distance traveled. Otherwise I hope everyone has a great time with whatever they’re playing! Have a great weekend all!
COD and Battlefield are very different types of FPS's and each serves their own market / fan base. I'd say Activision is, like it or not, pretty right on with their statement.
