Sony should be licensing out some IPs they’re not using regularly for younger studios to get their feet wet. Best case scenario? Whatever franchise used is reborn & Sony potentially has a new studio under their umbrella. Worst case? It flops and the IP remains dormant like before
This relates to the article because these bigger studios don’t have the time to work on smaller games nowadays. Production on new Sony Studios games feel like it takes 4ish years on the low end. Let some upstart devs/studios with a fire to prove themselves do so with one of the many, many, many IPs that are sleeping now. I get that studios are protective of their IPs as well though. I’d love for Sony’s devs to all make small standalones like “Miles Morales” or “Uncharted: Lost Legacy” every now and then. But it’s not always feasible.
@UltimateOtaku91 the thing is a lot of people don’t start games at the first installment of many franchises. You can always go back and play the other games if/when you fall in love with the series. I’ve seen you comment a lot on here over the years (I’m a creeper I know) and can pretty confidently say I think you’ll find at least some enjoyment in it. It’s not perfect by any mean but it’s made with a lot of love. It honestly took RGG a lot of balls to switch from the popular brawler series to a turn base one in this game. Yakuza is a very hard series to find an entry point in if you don’t know where to look. But Yakuza: Like A Dragon is a great spot.
I can’t remember if Yakuza: Like A Dragon has an English voice dub but I highly suggest playing in Japanese with subtitles. Usually I don’t say “100% listen to this”, but if you do decide to play more, Kiryu’s English voice is so jarringly different than the character it’s crazy 😂😂
@UltimateOtaku91 is it a perfect starting point? No. But, it’s worth playing IMO. It does reference and have reveals that hit harder or at all if you have played the other games. That being said, I really think it’s a solid starting point because it’s the start of a new main lead. Ichiban is the most lovable dork in the world so I hope you try it out my man! And its turn base combat is really fun tbh. I actually started with 0, played 7 (which is this game) then went from 1 through 6 then a second replay of 7.
PS5 was a successful generation in turn to the load times. Going back to major load times would feel like a slog. More time to actually play the games is always better. I’d buy PS6 Day 1 though because I’m a sucker
@Czar_Khastik thank you my man for the offer & option! I ended up going with PlayAsia. I had to email them and make sure I was getting the steelbook too. It was still literally about the same of what you said (around $115). But I’ve used them to buy LAD: Gaiden, Ace Attorney Miles Edgeworth, Metaphor, and others. In the USA, there’s only a bundle for Kiwami 1 & 2 without the steelbook. Europe is lucky to get all of 0, 1 & 2 in the same bundle PLUS the steelbook. What a deal & steal tbh!
I just know sending things takes a lot of time and I didn’t want to put you out. Time is very important and you’re a busy dude. It’s better spent elsewhere tbh. If I couldn’t find it anywhere…. I wouldve caved and asked you though 😂😂 I just don’t love to pressure people for any help 😂😂 But, if you ever need anything USA related and cannot find it online, always feel free to hit me up. The kindness to a fellow Yakuza bro is always extended here 😎💙😎 Likewise, if I ever struggle finding something that’s an Europe exclusive, I’ll hit ya up 😎😎
Now that you’ve played most, if not all, of the Yakuza games, which game is your favorite (so far or out of them all)? Also, no clue if this site has messaging but feel free to message me if there is! Hope you have a great weekend my bro!
Lame. If they thought it’d be controversial, it could’ve been spun to be a great teaching moment. But I also don’t trust Ubisoft’s storytellers to do this justice as well.
Companies shouldn’t be scared to make games because they might offend people. You cannot cater to everyone. In every war, they are unspeakable actions committed. An American Civil War game would’ve sold like hotcakes while exploring a part of US history. A game like this could’ve educated some people. History is meant to be dissected and learned from.
It’s sad that articles have to say “Full Game on Disc”. That’s not a dig at PushSquare; it’s more of a complaint that this aspect of game publishing aspect has drastically changed for, in my opinion, the worse.
I love it. I went with English dub for Ghost of Tsushima. But for Ghost of Yotei, Young Atsu’s voice was honestly terrible so I switched to Japanese. Adult Atsu’s voice is solid though. Zero regrets switching.
Is a lot of it samesy as Ghost of Tsushima? Yes. Is that what I wanted? Also yes. Does it change enough to keep it fresh for me? Yes again. I only have the katana, 2 types of bows and the dual katanas. But the combat is a ton of fun. I’m more of a stealth type of player so I’m typically sniping (usually failing) enemies that don’t have helmets on. Parrying also seems so much more forgiving than in Tsushima which is a plus I guess.
I still prefer Jin Sakai as a protagonist because he’s the more interesting character. Seeing his morals clash between his old samurai ways that were driven into him since birth and becoming the Ghost was awesome. It’s not like I dislike Atsu though. It’s just after two playehroughs of Tsushima, I grew attached and wished for a sequel of his story. It just doesn’t feel finished.
So far, Atsu’s story has been purely revenge (although I haven't found one of the Yotei Six outside of the prologue yet). I’m sure it unravels into something more complex.
@Czar_Khastik thank you my man! I keep forgetting that you told me you’re from Croatia from our last Yakuza talk 😂 I may have to take you up on that offer though. I’m going to see if I can use Amazon UK for it but I’ve never done that before. I’d give you the money (plus a little extra for being a bro) before you pay for it in that case. But first, I’ll if try an online shop to spare you from the extra work. Regardless, the gesture is very much appreciated!
It’s honestly wild that it’s exclusive to just Europe. Happy for you guys but… we have fans here too 😭😭😭 I’m happy to replay them all though. Yakuza Kiwami 2 was my favorite game/combat for Kiryu until 6 came out. But man, the Yakuza 3 remake looks like it’ll be damn awesome. Plus a Mine Gaiden game? So pumped for February tbh
There’s many layers to grief and ways to handle loss. I don’t have any issues with Sony exploring one of the most relatable themes. We all have or will grieve over loss of life at one point. It’s inevitable yet also unfortunate. It’s one of the few ways people can relate to fictional characters and see themselves in them, especially in fantasy settings. I recently read The Epic of Gilgamesh which dealt with grieving over a dead friend, human’s mortality and how to accept it. I have no qualms with Sony’s Studios, their storytelling and their exploration of grief.
@Czar_Khastik much love my dude 💙 So I’ve beaten the mimic, got the key & used it, and have Monoco pretty much locked into my line-up so I don’t miss a foot. I actually fought that weird monster once and got destroyed so I put that monster on the back burner. It’s awesome to know I haven’t messed anything up yet 😂😂
Are you from the UK/Europe? Because I keep reading that only you guys are getting the 20th Anniversary bundle with 0 Director’s Cut, Kiwami 1 & Kiwami 2. I’m from the USA and might try to get it sent over because… I want the steelbook 😂😂😂
Is the combat more in line with the original Yakuza 3 or like Yakuza 6? Yakuza 3’s combat was a slog for me. Also seeing Rikiya like that blows my mind every time. It’s going to take a minute to get used to it
@Czar_Khastik thank you my dude! It’s reassuring to know nothing is missable. Weirdly enough, I’ve actually enjoyed not having a map for every area. I wouldn’t want that for every game but it’s fun to explore here. And much appreciated about the optional boss! I really hate when games bloat the HP of a boss and say “look, now it’s tougher!” I think I’ll try to beat it by parrying at first. But if it takes too long, I will resort to other tactics :’) I got some Yakuza remasters to play in December after all my brotha 😎😎😎
@Czar_Khastik how was the platinum for Clair Obscur? I’m slow rolling the main story because I want to savor it. I also have tons going on so that helps 😂😂 I 100% plan to platinum Clair Obscur in the future
@cainhurst94 if you’ve never had an OLED TV before, you’re in for an amazing surprise. I couldn’t imagine console gaming on anything else tbh after experiencing it
I always tell my friends, once you go OLED, you can never go back.
Yakuza 3 was the only Yakuza game where I hated the combat. Not gonna lie, there were many times I wanted to drop Yakuza 3 because of it.
What did I love about it? The Okinawa/Orphanage events. It doesn’t seem like many enjoyed it like I did. But, it was awesome to see Kiryu’s character have & raise a family. He truly loved each and every one of his orphanage’s children. And the way they looked up to Uncle Kaz 😭😭💙💙😭😭
Yakuza Kiwami 2 is my favorite Kiryu game so I’m stoked to replay it once again. I’m part of the double dipping problem 😭😭😭 Can’t stop, won’t stop buying Yakuza/Like A Dragon games
I don’t believe a State of Play was warranted today. They could’ve just announced Wolverine at the Game Awards or another major event like a bigger PlayStation showcase. Saros I get but they could’ve just announced the info at the Tokyo Game Show.
Don’t get me wrong; I loved seeing Wolverine & Saros. Wolverine is going to be friggen phenomenal combat-wise. But other than Alan Wake 2 coming to PS+ and the two mentioned earlier, I wasn’t that hyped. Chronoscript looked super interesting but thats still a major wait and see.
It’s going to take time for me to adjust to Rikiya’s new actor. He was one of the highlights of the game. I hope the combat has vastly been overhauled too. Yakuza 3 was in heavy need of a remake IMO. So, I’m glad it got one!
@nomither6 I’m just trying to play them in order. That’s why it sucks not having 1 & 2 readily available 😭😭😭 but thank you though! One would think a remaster/remake would be a no brainer for Sony even if they went like a Demon’s Souls route with the trilogy
@nomither6 honestly, I wanted to stream them using the PS3 games on PS+. But for some reason, my internet hates the streaming service from my PS5. In God of War, having terrible lag is actually a big detriment because every time I had to button mash an input, it would almost never register properly. So I REALLY want to play the originals and hope they get a proper and well-deserved remake
As someone who never played the originals, I just want a God of War Trilogy remaster, port or remake. I love Greek mythology and want to experience the originals so badly
Some FF7 Remake Part 3 news would be amazing but unlikely. I’m expecting all the Yakuza updates to be at the RGG showcase. I’ll take some RE9 updates though! Anything Clair Obscur (like a DLC) would be wicked too but unlikely for this State of Play. A Wolverine release date would be awesome as well!
1. I’m playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and just met Verso who’s the man
2. I have a wedding I’m attending a week after release. So I don’t want to start it then have a long pause in-between
3. Maybe if I’m patient, there’ll be a decent enough discount on Black Friday. Highly unlikely because it’s a PS Studios game but… dreamers gonna dream :’)
I really, really, REALLY hope we get a PS6 version down the line. Heck, I’d pay for it full price.
I platinum’ed the game well before the big update 2.whatever and had an amazing time. I expected CD Projeckt Red to go “The Witcher 3” route with a complete edition which includes the DLC and… a brand new trophy list.
Now, I understand I can play the DLC and all… no worries. But Cyberpunk 2077 was a slam dunk candidate to be a double platinum game. I refuse to auto-pop trophies so I would’ve had a clean playthrough. I’m torturing myself for no reason. This is a me problem, not a CD Projeckt Red/Cyberpunk 2077 problem
Yep, sounds fair. I honestly prefer him to map it out by himself rather than with a huge team. Too many voices in the conceptual stage can muddy the process. I see nothing wrong with this tbh. I’m actually more excited because of that.
Sweet! I’ve held back on playing this only because I have a massive backlog. I look forward to diving into the PS5 version down the road (if rumors are true/confirmed)
I still need to play the first one. I platinum’ed the second and have been slowly doing a second playthrough. Now I’m motivated to buy and play the first!
Octopath Traveler 0 definitely looks awesome. I love how all 8 characters will be able to contribute rather than just the 4. It spices things up from the second game. I’m looking forward to it!
….and the save data bonuses are such a sweet add-on. Honestly I don’t get why more studios don’t do this. It seems like a slam dunk move in most cases
Yeah, this is what I assumed the time limit would be which I’m absolutely fine with. I still want to see more and check out reviews before I commit Day 1
I finished Chapters 1 & 2 of Death Stranding and it took me 9 and 1/2 hours. I took my sweet time with it hoarding as many packages as I could find though.
Now, I’m taking a break and replaying Persona 3 Reload. Gonna do one “dungeon phase” at a time then take massive breaks in between tbh
Going to highly enjoy starting “Death Stranding 2” tonight after finally finishing & slogging through “Alone In The Dark”. That game was just meh to bleh IMO. DS2 should be a blast!
Square Enix should be able to do both. They’re more than capable of pulling that off. Just make a spin off series with the FF name that targets action like FF7R or turn-base then make the mainline games the other. And obviously keep going with FFXIV. Once FF7 Part 3 is finished, it wouldn’t surprise me if they have major changes to the way they go about FF in the future
I am now conflicted on buying this Day 1 or waiting for the community to build more strategically-placed structures before I begin. Seems like waiting may not matter if the natural disaster aspect can tear them all down 😂😂 I’m 100% playing the game; just don’t know if I’ll cave this week or next 😂😂
So if P4R was announced but not arriving until 2027+, what the hell does that mean for Persona 6 which hasn’t been announced? P6 has to be getting closer to a reveal by now.
Tons of questions now regarding this. Will they sink more money into this and try to make it work? Will they just can it? What happens to Bungie in either scenario above that results in a failure? If Bungie gets either bulldozed or resources significantly limited, is this Sony’s worst acquisition? Will Sony back off acquiring other devs because of this? Will Sony still desperately chase after live service games after literally losing billions of the acquisition proves unprofitable? Does Sony focus now shift to single player action-adventure games and they relocate assets that way? And many more questions. I’m not a live service shooter player myself so Marathon wasn’t interesting. But the ramifications of the game’s outcome was what intrigued me.
Time travel detective game maybe? Could be wicked tbh. It would fill in the void of Judgment if they truly are just moving on from it (which I hope not 😭😭😭)
@Nepp67 yeah that’d be great. I’m not tryna rip on the game, but the loot system is such a turn off. If it had simplified the gear system into just one of a kind finds through exploration & fights and was less daunting/time consuming, it’d be an even better experience. But I’m sure Tom’s love their loot system and trying to optimize stats/builds that way

Re: Hideo Kojima Alone Is Currently Working on PlayStation Exclusive Physint
Yep, sounds fair. I honestly prefer him to map it out by himself rather than with a huge team. Too many voices in the conceptual stage can muddy the process. I see nothing wrong with this tbh. I’m actually more excited because of that.
Re: Rumour: Kingdom Come: Deliverance Coming to PS5 with Native Version
Sweet! I’ve held back on playing this only because I have a massive backlog. I look forward to diving into the PS5 version down the road (if rumors are true/confirmed)
Re: Octopath Traveler 0 Confirmed and Set for a PS5 Release This December
I still need to play the first one. I platinum’ed the second and have been slowly doing a second playthrough. Now I’m motivated to buy and play the first!
Octopath Traveler 0 definitely looks awesome. I love how all 8 characters will be able to contribute rather than just the 4. It spices things up from the second game. I’m looking forward to it!
….and the save data bonuses are such a sweet add-on. Honestly I don’t get why more studios don’t do this. It seems like a slam dunk move in most cases
Re: PS5 Vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker Explains Why Its Time Limit Isn't Really a Time Limit
Yeah, this is what I assumed the time limit would be which I’m absolutely fine with. I still want to see more and check out reviews before I commit Day 1
Re: Poll: 5 Years Later, What Do You Think of Ghost of Tsushima?
When I get back from my best friend’s wedding, I’m finally digging into the expansion
Re: Rumour: Unforgettable RPG Dragon Quest 7 Tipped for PS5 Release
It really seems like such an no-brainer decision to re-release these games. It’s easy money.
I hope DQXII can get rolling sooner rather than later
Re: No Surprises with This Year's NBA 2K26 PS5, PS4 Cover Star
SGA is a damn boring “superstar”. I get that this was the easy choice, but yeah
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 588
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 587
Going to highly enjoy starting “Death Stranding 2” tonight after finally finishing & slogging through “Alone In The Dark”. That game was just meh to bleh IMO. DS2 should be a blast!
Re: Square Enix 'Aware' of Clair Obscur's Success, Ponders Turn-Based RPG Revival
Re: Death Stranding 2 (PS5) - A Masterpiece in Every Sense
I am now conflicted on buying this Day 1 or waiting for the community to build more strategically-placed structures before I begin. Seems like waiting may not matter if the natural disaster aspect can tear them all down 😂😂 I’m 100% playing the game; just don’t know if I’ll cave this week or next 😂😂
Re: You Really Will Be Waiting a While to Play Persona 4 Revival
So if P4R was announced but not arriving until 2027+, what the hell does that mean for Persona 6 which hasn’t been announced? P6 has to be getting closer to a reveal by now.
Re: Bungie Delays Marathon Indefinitely, No New PS5, PC Release Date Given
Tons of questions now regarding this.
Re: Microsoft Windows Classic Backyard Baseball '97 Hits PS5 Today
Bought it with probably my last PS Stars reward money. Who hit my first home run? The legend… Pablo Sanchez
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Free and Paid DLC Adds Guests from Minecraft, Like a Dragon, More
Right when they said “other worlds” or whatever, I knew it was going to be Joker & Ichiban
Re: Yakuza Dev's Project Century Now Called Stranger Than Heaven, Looks Nuts in New PS5 Reveal
Time travel detective game maybe? Could be wicked tbh. It would fill in the void of Judgment if they truly are just moving on from it (which I hope not 😭😭😭)
Re: Assassinate Your Targets with Pals in Upcoming Hitman Co-Op Mode
Like I’m not gonna play it, but that’s probably a damn fun MP game. I just don’t know many who are gamers plus my Internet is very moody
Re: Fans Convinced They've Figured Out Who Plays James Bond in 007 First Light
I’m pretty sure that was Chris Pratt
Re: Nioh 3 Announced for PS5, Demo Out Now for Two Weeks
@Nepp67 yeah that’d be great. I’m not tryna rip on the game, but the loot system is such a turn off. If it had simplified the gear system into just one of a kind finds through exploration & fights and was less daunting/time consuming, it’d be an even better experience. But I’m sure Tom’s love their loot system and trying to optimize stats/builds that way
