Update []: The iconic Backyard Baseball 97 is available on the PS5 today, after its Trophies previously leaked on Sony’s servers.
The game – a favourite among baseball fans of a certain age – continues Playground Productions’ goal to “preserve and celebrate the nostalgic fun of the original Backyard Sports titles”.
“Whether you grew up playing on a family desktop or are just discovering the magic for the first time, this game’s pick-up-and-play charm, funny characters, and nostalgic art style remain unrivalled,” said CEO Lindsay Barnett in a press release.

Original Story: A PS5 Trophy list for the iconic Microsoft Windows CD-ROM sports game Backyard Baseball ’97 has hit Sony’s servers.
The arcade baseball outing – the first in a long-running line of simplistic sports games from Humongous Entertainment – originally launched in 1997, and defined an entire generation due to its vibrant presentation and accessible gameplay.
Playground Productions announced last year that it had reacquired the rights to the Backyard Sports series after ex-NFL centre Jason Kelce had generated renewed interest in the brand by mentioning it on a podcast.
The team subsequently ported the original to Steam, and always had plans to bring it to the PS5. Now it looks like a release date is imminent as the Trophies have appeared on Sony’s servers.
