Re: This RAM Crisis Is Looking Like a Nightmare for the PS6

nessisonett

These AI peddlers are genuinely going to destroy the world and for what? Is it really worth the environmental impact, the RAM shortages and the erosion of public trust in any form of media? This bubble will make a handful of people exceptionally rich and leave the rest of us worse off in a million ways but hey, we can chat to a bot instead of our own families!

Re: PS5 Outsold by an Unexpected Rival in the Run Up to Black Friday

@Shaw_Brothers I never got this whole thing about Chinese companies specifically spying on me. What the hell does Beijing care what I get up to? I live in one of the most surveilled countries on the planet, I’m far more concerned about the government’s war on privacy than what the Chinese get up to. Besides, anyone that wants our data already has it, you’d have to be the Unabomber to not have given it out at some point by now.

Re: Fortnite Artist Fights Back Against Generative AI Accusations from Fans

It has to be rough if your art style is specifically soft pastel cartoons given the Ghibli trend completely poisoned the well and most AI art resembles it in some way. I worry that with these models getting more advanced, the next thing to generate will be videos ‘showing the artistic process’ to make it even harder for artists to prove their work is real.

Re: PS5's Biggest Game Fortnite Accused of Using AI Art

They’ll push it so hard that people will get tired of protesting. It’s a deliberate tactic. They have practically unlimited resources to push this on the public and creativity will die. We should be looking at this and realising that what humans can do in terms of creativity and artistic expression is remarkable. But instead all people think about is saving money.

Re: Scratch Your Soccer Management Itch with SEGA Football Club Champions 2026 on PS5, PS4

nessisonett

I saw this was coming but had absolutely no idea what it was. FM26 is sort of atrocious in a lot of ways even on PC so uh, this can’t be any worse? Although it’s deeply hilarious that Gareth Bale is inexplicably St Mirren’s assistant manager in my file. That’s what I live for in those games. They should bring back FIFA Manager/Total Club Manager, the Football Fusion thing was really cool where you could play your matches in FIFA 2004 while handling running the club in the TCM 04 game. Also Martin O’Neill is on the cover of TCM 04 off the back of our UEFA Cup final against Mourinho’s Porto. What a man, still giving us European results.

Re: Talking Point: Does PS5 Have a Sequel Problem?

I thought Ragnarok was pretty great personally, even if that section with Atreus was a big slog. A bit rushed and not everything felt wrapped up though. It’s an odd situation though considering in the PS2 and PS3 years, the general rule was that 1 was good, 2 was the best entry and 3 was divisive. Same as movie trilogies. I’d say that applied to God of War, Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank. Probably other series too.

Re: Final Fantasy X Was the 'Ultimate Perfection' of the Series, Says Dragon Quest Creator

nessisonett

X ages better every year. Probably my favourite turn based system in the series, so good that LotR The Third Age just blatantly stole it. The plot, characters and soundtrack are so, so good. I think the 2010s cynicism and CinemaSins-esque nitpicking ruined it in some people’s eyes as there are some silly moments but if you engage with it in completely good faith and take it all in then I’m not sure Final Fantasy has been as good since. I like XII a lot but the story is pretty muddled and I don’t think any of the emotional beats hit as hard as X. Although Wakka is a racist with a flat top who chucks a volleyball at people and has the voice of Bender.

Re: Poll: Five Years of PS5 - How Would You Rate Sony's Console?

nessisonett

I know there was Covid but 5 years on, this is not a good generation. Compared to the PS2 and PS4, the first party offerings that are exclusive to the PS5 have been MIA or a disappointment. The sad part is that the console itself is incredibly solid and it’s the best place to play PS4 games and third party games. I would rather play a lot of games on PS5 than my PC but Sony have a lot of studios and I’m not sure they’ve all been earning their keep. Poor Insomniac are carrying things.

Re: Ubisoft Is All In on Generative AI, Says It's as Big a Leap in Tech as the 'Shift to 3D'

nessisonett

@Clytorial_Impact Worked for an AI firm. It’s a fart-huffing hype-powered plagiarism machine sold to the most gullible people on the planet. A mention of it being used to cut down repetitive tasks makes me think you’re the one who lacks real world experience as that level of automation isn’t exactly new and it’s the consumer interfacing with LLMs that’s the new part. And you’re conflating generative AI, which this article is discussing, with other forms of automation.

Re: Valve's Steam Machine May Not Be As Affordable As a PS5

nessisonett

I think what some people have failed to realise is that the PS6 is going to be exorbitantly expensive if trends stay as they are, and that there comes a point where the potential gains made from new, expensive hardware just are not worth the price. Plus Steam games are so, so much cheaper than PS5 games and can also be acquired from a million other sources, Humble Bundles and so forth. Emulators too. I personally have no use for this but I can see it being a great first step towards Valve carving out more of a space in hardware, they just need to get it into retailers rather than direct order in my opinion. For enthusiasts, it’s ok ordering from Valve themselves but I genuinely think if you had these in the Argos catalogue or in a John Lewis window, they look nifty enough and are easy enough to explain in a small display to catch general consumers’ eyes.
