They sh*t the bed. Massively. I don’t see anyone liking these changes, and that’s not even taking into account those who’re done with the series after openly hiring a sex offender.
@PegasusActual93 The level of passion project indie games that actually release is incredibly slim. The infrastructure is not there with grants and such for indie devs to release their games without either compromise or external funding. You can make a movie with just a camcorder and free editing software, Blair Witch obviously being the most famous example. Game development is vastly more complex even at a basic level. Governments are not funding indie devs the same way they fund indie filmmakers. And you’re being naive if you think that a game being indie means that it’s made for a grander artistic purpose, they’re often just as much about undercutting competition and jumping on trends as their AAA counterparts, such is capitalism. Mods are another thing entirely, they build off somebody else’s work and are valid of course, I do play an awful lot of mods, but that would be like saying fanfic was as creative as an original novel. Also a lot of modders recently are charging for their efforts on a Patreon or similar, just seen that new PES 99 mod will be like £14.
@SlyASpiE There’s more films than games in general. The difference is that there are a lot fewer films made solely for financial gain than games. Video games are not at a point where they can be made for solely artistic reasons, whereas there are an awful lot of movies that will probably not make a profit but are made for art’s sake. If a game bombs then the studio is dead more often than not. So the vision is compromised from the beginning in order to make a profit. Besides, there are so many films out there that reason dictates that there are a lot, lot more films that are art than games that are art.
@SlyASpiE That’s because games that aren’t a lower form of art are few and far between. And those games aren’t the sort that get adapted for popcorn fare.
Genuinely very cool, clearly a passion project for the devs. And as much as Ringo Starr’s voice is iconic, Michael Angelis is just as memorable for me!
@Runex2121 It’s the physics as well as the graphics, it’s too cartoony with not enough weight behind it. Things like fielding are basically automatic too, you walk underneath a shadow and you catch it. Running too feels hands off. There needs to be more active gameplay with more weighty gameplay and it’ll be great.
The DQ composer might have been a shrivelled up old war crime apologist but I’m surprised that people aren’t a fan of the actual music. Always liked the similar stylings.
I do like the original despite the tedium, the 3DS version sort of streamlines the character out of it. Plus the character arcs have room to grow. I look forward to playing this and comparing it to both other versions.
@Ralizah Don’t forget that every one of the generic characters is colour-coded, so that you can tell them apart without knowing any of their names or personalities!
@Ralizah It was rough going to Cold Steel 1 and 2 from the chibi graphics games too, because the scripts are so much worse. There’s hints of the nonsense in the original trilogy and the Crossbell games too but Cold Steel felt like such a slap in the face with how tropey every single element of the scripts was. It’ll be interesting getting round to these remakes to see if they’ve added 15 scoops of predatory lesbian jokes to them, that seems to be the funniest thing on the planet to the writers.
There’s plenty Scottish actors out there so it’s a bit odd to just stick him back in. He is the best thing about the games though, so more Mimir is a good thing.
@Aniscape Been saying this, the Animus is such a great idea that isn’t fully explored. You can reasonably remake a game while still having it be a new experience and quasi-sequel due to the Animus being improved. Plus they can get rid of that one mission where you tail a ship through a swamp.
I probably should be into this, because I adored the books growing up, but I dunno. It’s sort of a relic and the ‘fans’ not understanding that Scott is a washed up loser and not cool in any way do my head in.
Not a big fan of this. If you’re still on PS4 in 2026 then there’s a fairly high chance it’s a financial decision. Having your console begging to be upgraded is a bit tacky.
The real question is if John K will get any royalties from this. He admitted having a 16 year old girlfriend. I know he’s not involved with this inevitably terrible reboot so there’s a chance he won’t be getting any money from this but very much need to make sure. I don’t think it’s too controversial to be wary of giving money to a nonce.
@graymamba Tony Dalton and Pedro Pascal aren’t even very similar as actors. Plus him appearing in The Last of Us shows that he clearly is on board with Pascal’s views and working with Druckmann a second time here means he’s on board with him too. And it’s bizarre to claim that Pedro Pascal ‘used to be cool’ when he’s always had a transgender sister and has always supported gay rights, he’s been besties with Sarah Paulson for years. Feels more like you’ve projected your own views onto a man that never held them, and now you feel betrayed that he didn’t live up to that standard. We aren’t stupid, there’s no other potential reason that you’d think Pascal ‘used to be cool’ but that has changed, the quality and range of his projects is fairly identical to where it was a few years back.
Unity is so good going back to it after it’s been fixed. I wish I stuck with it back in the day because in some ways it’s the pinnacle of the series. In others it absolutely is not 😂
RGG were in the perfect place. 7 was a huge hit, Judgment was keeping the older combat alive. Instead, Ichiban has been sidelined, Judgment is dead and we’re getting Pirate Yakuza and predators in Kiwami games. It’s not just missing a slam dunk, it’s hitting your forehead on the hoop and dying.

Never mind then. Bizarre premise was interesting but no chance I’m supporting Gen AI.

They’ve destroyed the series personally. The changes being alluded to make rubber bullets seem like a stroke of genius.

@Czar_Khastik Tokyo Xanadu is about as bog-standard as you get. Paint by numbers JRPG. Falcom on autopilot.
