Video game sales data will generally always focus on what's being bought the most, but what about the titles below the best sellers you never see? As Circana reveals its end-of-year reports for game sales in the USA, analyst Mat Piscatella has shared some fun facts surrounding the data you'd never normally see.
According to Piscatella, games on the PS2, PSP, and PS Vita are still receiving officially recorded purchases in the USA, and some titles were sold exactly once in 2025.
The fact a retail store is stocking PS2, PSP, and PS Vita games that it deems as "new" so many years after the consoles' lifespans is surprising, but apparently, they're still being counted.
All via Mat Piscatella, these PS2 games sold one new copy in the USA last year:
- Bombastic
- Gladius
- Grandia 3
- Kingdom Hearts 2
- Midway Arcade Treasures 2
- MVP Baseball 2005
- Odin Sphere
- Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
- Sly 2: Band of Thieves
- Stuntman: Ignition
- Yakuza 2
These PSP games sold one new copy in the USA last year:
- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
- Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
- Monster Hunter: Freedom Dual Pack
- Rock Band Unplugged
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09
- UFC 2010: Undisputed
These PS Vita games sold one new copy in the USA last year:
- Borderlands 2
- Code: Realize - Winterwide Miracles
- Dynasty Warriors Next
- Little Deviants
- Punch Line
- Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen
Were you the person who bought one of these games? Explain yourself in the comments below.

Whoever is still buying games on PS2 has supremely good tastes. Hella respect who bought that copy of Odin Sphere
Some of these are pretty decent games and so finding a copy would be a pleasant surprise. Not sure what that 1 person wants with MVP Baseball 2005 though.
I'm surprised there's still retail store who stock brand new PS2, PSP, and Vita copy.
But not surprised with some people going back to retro games / console. I'm also saving money to get an og PS2 + a second hand copy of Front Mission 4, Ace Combat 4, Shadow of Rome, Viewtiful Joe 1, Max Payne 1, and Xenosaga eps 1.
I'd be very curious to know where they're being sold — are they all from the same place, I wonder?
I bought a couple PS2 classics on my PS3 last year, and at least one PSP game. All digital through the PlayStation Store. I wouldn't be surprised if the sales numbers there were a bit higher.
@PuppetMaster @Andee I worked for a video game distributor that has many of the games on this list, and we sold them to many retro stores throughout the US, PlayAsia, and VGP.
PSP games were made up until 2016 and PS1/PS2 games were made up until 2019. And they had many copies left of these games when I left, which, from the list above, were:
*Bombastic (copies from original pressings)
*Kingdom Hearts 2 (copies made in 2019)
*Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (copies made in 2019)
*Stuntman Ignition (copies from original pressings)
*Yakuza 2 (copies made in 2019)
*Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip (copies from original pressings)
*Monster Hunter: Freedom Dual Pack (copies made in 2016)
*Rock Band Unplugged (copies from original pressings)
*Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 (copies from original pressings)
*UFC 2010: Undisputed (copies from original pressings)
*Code: Realize - Winterwide Miracles (copies from original pressings)
*Punch Line (copies from original pressings)
So somewhere in the US, someone is playing Borderlands 2 at 20fps and regretting their life choices.
God bless the person who bought Kingdom Hearts II.
If they released a PS2 today, memory cards and wired controllers and all, I would snatch one up. Same with the PSP. Especially if they started producing physical games again.
I have a Retroid that is mostly PSP. Highly recommended.
I bought a new copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga on Amazon last year. So this is me?? Amazon has tons of new ps2 games for sale. All you have to do is search new ps2 games. Probably shooting myself in the foot here. Now everyone will know and I will never find another new on Amazon lol.
I actually bought new sealed copies of KH 1 and 2 for the PS2 back in about 2016/17 from the now dearly departed G-Force Games. No idea why I didn’t just buy the PS3 remasters. I later just played them all on PS5.
It's good to see people still buying retro games. I just beat Armored Core 2 on the PS2 a few days ago. It took me some time to get used to the controls but by the end, it was second nature. About 15-20 hrs to 100% everything. It was the perfect amount of time. Nowadays, to 100% new games takes like 80+ hours and I get bored about 30 hrs in.
@zidane4028 Are those brand new copy from 2016 / 19 really legit? I mean, i've read plenty of them doesn't have white Playstation strip / seal and just 3rd party reseal. Some also have pixelated / off-color cover art.
@PuppetMaster They are legit and came from Sony's manufacturing channels. But the things that collectors typically look for aren't there because Sony stopped including things like that to cut costs. I wrote all about this in this reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/comments/1nza7io/re_game_manufacturing_info/)
(No joke) 2 years ago I bought new PS2 games from the Canadian retailer VGP. Those were Digital Devil Saga, Katamari Damacy, Yakuza 1, Yakuza 2 and GTA Trilogy (3, VC and SA in individual cases packaged together in a outer box).
The GTA Trilogy is something I'll probably never unbox because I consider it a relic.

Yeah, same — I dug out my old PS2/3 controllers a year or so ago and some buttons either weren't working or were weirdly spongy/unresponsive. Having freshly-manufactured official controllers (or at least a perfect replica) would be fantastic. Then again, I managed to procure one of those 8-Bit Do DualSense dongles that rendered this all moot anyway
PS3 is the earliest I go these days after my fat 60GB PS3 died with the YLOD after about 5.5 years solid service.
I don't bother trying to track down new, using CEX/eBay for anything on the PS3 or PSP (sold the Vita last year after many years of non-use). Recently bought a cheap copy of Lego Indiana Jones 2 for the PSP in excellent condition and still had the manual!
I also think that until very recently (maybe around a year or two ago) you could could to square enix website and they were still selling new copies of their ps1 games direct to customers.
Punch Line nice! Very awesome game!
@Czar_Khastik the company I worked for got those games reprinted by Sony and VGP bought them from us.
@zidane4028 Well that explains why they were available at a decent price so many years after ps2 being discontinued, thanks for clarifying
@Czar_Khastik no problem, but keep in mind that these games were reprinted back in 2019, which is when Sony stopped printing PS1 and PS2 games, full-stop. We had thousands of copies for those games done and some of them might be running out right about now.
@Th3solution It is, without question, the greatest baseball game ever. Last I checked, the PC version was getting the tecmo bowl treatment where a dedicated dude/group updates the rosters every year. I still play it to this day and would jump on a new copy if I saw it. That being said it wasn’t me who bought the one new copy in 2025, but I wish I was.
I buy games from Vita store quite regularly. Last one I got was Motorstorn RC and it’s dlc. Great little game
I've been to the Americas, and let me tell you my fellow Europeasants: you can find some strange things if you borrow to the bottom of those Target bargain bins.
@mazz 🤔 Oh, goes to show what I know about baseball games. Ya learn something new everyday.
