It’s hard, it does feel like RGG have completely lost their way in the last couple years. When even the longtime fans who were creating guides for the games in the years they weren’t localised are struggling, it shows that the series doesn’t really know what it wants to be. This should be a fresh start but it also sounds quite a messy endeavour from this preview. Here’s hoping it comes together.

It’s not good at all, and this is why Sony, MS, Embracer and the rest buying up studios has always been a bad thing. Good teams will suffer because of their overlord’s internal struggles and not because of their own success or lack of. I miss you Vicarious Visions!

@Ricksta EA Big were amazing, genuinely about to start SSX 3 for a RetroAchievements thing so it’s a well timed moment to hype up that team, they gave us so many brilliant games.

Idk how people can bang on about ‘what if good games were made using AI’ when if you take a 30 second glance at the PS Store you’ll immediately see the issue with allowing slop. It’s everywhere, they’re all bad ripoffs designed to trick people and it’s needing sorted.

@pyrrhic_victory They already did before…? DICE did both Battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2, and I find it a shame that 2 was that much of money-grubbing disaster at launch when it plays like a dream these days. Bit mad to think it’ll have been a decade next year since Battlefront 2 though.

@Dogbreath I bought a PS5 6 years ago for £450 and that was after saving for a good few years. £450 is not £1000. And the last game I bought with my own money as in not a present was in 2021 or 2022. I’m fortunate enough to have gotten a PS5 when it was cheaper but my only purchase for it is a year of PS Plus around Christmas time when it goes on sale. Circumstances change, I was made redundant almost a year ago and there’s absolutely nothing out there. You make do with zero hours contracts and freelance work where you can get it but even those are like gold dust.

They should all be 18+ for gambling elements, same as FIFA and all the rest. There’s a real problem with gambling in the UK and these sorts of games are a soft platform to genuine gambling.

I just don’t think I would like to waste any of my precious hours on this planet watching Jason Momoa painted green. Although I did watch Eight Bridges finally, which is 8 ten-minute shots of bridges. Meditative but maybe not quite as much as 13 Lakes, which I’m sure you can work out what that entails. 13 Lakes genuinely moved me to tears at an incredibly low point, I would rather watch that again than ever put my brain through Street Fighter.

If there’s the same number of killer exclusives on PS6 as there are on PS5 then it’s a no from me.

Play any Gust or Falcom game from the last decade and you’ll realise that every single female character is designed to appeal to a different man’s sexual tastes and not for any narrative reason. I played the Toy Story 2 game for a RetroAchievements event and thought it was pretty good. Not that far off some of the big collectathons like Banjo and such.

@Sunraku The gaming industry has relied on exploiting people’s passion for years, AI replacing them outright is an unfortunate end product given how dreadful the big corporations are.

Mafia is a massive win. My mum will be chuffed! Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is also an enormous childhood classic for me, I got the expansion discs for Christmas in I think maybe ‘05 or ‘06?

@JohntheRaptor I find the sticks so much harder to replace than Nintendo’s too. My joy-cons had drift and it was annoying but it was fairly relaxing and enjoyable to replace them compared to opening up a DualSense.

@Sunraku I literally was made redundant in the software industry because of AI meaning they could ‘save money’ getting rid of more junior staff. I’m well aware that turnover is high. If you’re a dev who can only work in Unreal, you are barely a developer. You’re indistinguishable from the script kiddies ‘teaching themselves how to make games’ through YouTube tutorials. The entire point of doing your degree is being taught the tools to familiarise yourself with essentially any language or SDK. It’s 2026, documentation is everywhere and it should not take you much effort at all moving from C++ to C# for example, which is what Unreal and Unity use. By all means, specialise in a language, but I don’t trust anybody’s CV if they’re that resistant to utilising a different setup, anybody worth their salt can apply their knowledge to almost anything. Unless we’re talking extremely specific proprietary systems, and those aren’t as prevalent these days.

@dodgykebaab The Luddites were blatantly correct and smeared by the fat cats who took control of industry. They were not inherently against technology, they were one of the first major labour movements in the UK and fought against the conditions factory workers were enduring and the way that skilled artisans were being undercut with cheap crap pumped out by slaves. You need to start reading up on actual history before throwing around nonsense propaganda.

@Sunraku I’d argue that if there were any issues training your devs to use something other than Unreal Engine then they’re not qualified for the role and stealing a wage.

That’s rough, Trials is such a longtime series and it was super cool seeing the Flash games I was playing end up becoming a proper console series.
