A new message being sent out to PS4 owners is encouraging them to upgrade to the PS5.
The notification, sent out by PlayStation in late January, was snapped by user Sahil Shaw and has since been shared around social media, as below.
It says:
“Whether you’re catching up with hits from 2025 like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ARC Raiders, and Ghost of Yotei or getting ready for the most anticipated games of 2026 including SAROS, 007 First Light, Nioh 3, and so much more, now’s the perfect time to upgrade your PS5 console.”

There’s a QR code attached to the message which takes you to PlayStation’s official website, where you can find out pricing information and deals.
Unsurprisingly, the publisher listed games which can only be played on the PS5. It’s worth remembering there still are a smattering of new releases launching on the PS4 as well.
But the bigger issue this generation for PlayStation has been the ongoing support for live service games, like Fortnite and Roblox, which still play perfectly well on the PS4.
Recently Sony and HoYoverse joined forces to release a promotional trailer for Genshin Impact, encouraging players to upgrade to the PS5 ahead of the gacha game’s discontinuation on last-gen hardware.
As the nature of generations change, it’s going to become harder and harder for the Japanese giant to encourage players to upgrade. This issue will be even more pronounced for the PS6, whenever it eventually arrives.
Sony may feel that simply keeping players within its ecosystem is enough, but on the evidence of the message above, it’s still very eager to convert PS4 holdouts to PS5 if it can.
