@rjejr I don't know man, KB+M might actually be part of the reason! I kinda did the opposite to you, in the sense that growing up on Nintendo consoles I didn't really try them out and thought they were stupid, then I started branching out a bit on my PS3 and the first games I tried were the three Bioshock games (which I'm replaying at the moment on Switch, coincidentally; boy do I love this series lol), which drew me in thanks to their settings compared to the more boring COD etc.. I didn't expect it but I was thoroughly hooked, and now FPS games are among my absolute favorites even though I cannot use KB+M lol So my advice would be to find the FPS that looks the most interesting to you, try it out and then see if it's worth it to you; if it is, you'll no doubt adapt to the dual stick control scheme. If you want advice for your entry FPS, by all means tell me and I'd be glad to help you find it π
@Blacksmith1985 you're super welcome mate! Every person I manage to "convert" to DOOM is a win in my book π By all means, let me know if you enjoy it!
@Blacksmith1985 that's actually a great talking point!
So, I'm a huge DOOM fan and I've watched almost all the streams the director (Hugo Martin, one of the most precious being on this planet) did of the game, and he is adamant that the game was always meant to be beaten with a standard controller, which is why he plays on Nightmare on a standard XBox controller with the X-axis inverted.
As for me, I got a PC a year and a half ago so I'm new to PC gaming; in any case, I've never used M+KB and can't learn it for the life of me, so I'm the one peasant who plays FPS games on PC with a gyro-enabled controller lol π
The gyro certainly helps with smaller adjustments, but I gotta say that even without it, the game is doable. I mean I'm not a super hardcore gamer, I'm usually not really good at games, but even I managed to overcome a lot of levels on Nightmare, some Master Levels and even the DLC. If you take some time to understand the game and get better, you'll get there and have a freaking awesome time in the process. I know that I've spent months playing only that, and it was amazing. Also, there's an awesome community online and a load of Doomtubers explaining techs, strategies etc, so check them out if you're curious! Have a great day!
@TheFrenchiestFry that's the impossibly optimistic scenario though π
I expect that we'll still get the same boring open world with nothing interactive in it, and a main character with the responsiveness and dexterity of a plank of wood, but I hope I'm wrong. If they go from GTAV clunkiness (is that a word?) to BOTW's dynamic... everything, well, I'll eat my hat and buy 10 copies like the British seem to enjoy doing on a weekly basis lol π
@JustPlainLoco that's just incorrect. I have a lot of Switch physical games, and only 2 of those require a download, those being DOOM and Wolfenstein 2.
It depends on the publisher, really, but first party games never do this, only some third parties who can't be arsed to put real effort in.
@OthmaneAD I already said that I don't expect them to have a legal battle, that was never my point. Point is they didn't have to comply, since nothing actually illegal is being done, even less so by Ubisoft itself.
"Be reasonable", said the dude who came barging in insulting me while not getting the point. The irony.
Regarding the last point, which has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, if you can't distinguish that the conversation about a game's quality and the conversation about its monetization are two different things, well, that doesn't surprise me. Also, saying that MTX implementation has no impact on gameplay is naΓ―ve at best, and very often verifiable wrong.
Reply to your heart's content but know that I won't be wasting any more time with you, since your idea of interacting with people is straight up insult them right away. Have a good night.
@OthmaneAD wow, that has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. Guess I should praise Napoleon as well, given his contribution to the history of France, the country that gave us Ubisoft. π€·πΌββοΈ
Btw companies are not your friends, it's not healthy to have that mindset that you should be grateful towards them, especially if you're gonna be a j*rk to random people on the internet you know nothing about to defend them. Who the f*ck are you to call me bullsh*t and tell me what I say or don't about companies? You need a Kit-Kat mate?
@Richnj yeah, let's hope LegalEagle makes a video on this, it's a weird situation indeed! Great breakdown btw ππ»
This is beyond appalling. The dude used assets that were in Far Cry, he didn't steal or copy anything from GoldenEye. I'm pretty sure they have no legal grounds to do this as he hasn't stolen assets or anything, just recreated the level design (which I think isn't subject to copyright, but of course I might be wrong on this whole thing).
F*ck MGM. F*ck Ubisoft who bows to this crap. F*ck corporations.
I'm glad I could share some solidarity with you ahahahah Every time I see Sonic-related news I ask to myself what kind of miracle lets it still exist and keep pumping out new releases lol
@nessisonett in fact I noticed it right away and thought to myself "hey, there's a guy/gal with good taste I've never seen around here before!" and only then I noticed it was you ahahah π
What was the old one, out of curiosity? I've seen it dozens of times but I never recognized where it was from π
I'm not a Soulslike fan as I've only played ~30 hours of DS1 and never even got close to beating it cause I got stuck in an early dungeon, so I'm the opposite of an elitist.
That said, I totally get where fans come from when they oppose an easy mode: it would kinda defeat the purpose of the whole game. It's not meant to be a fantasy RPG walk through the park, it's meant to be punishing and that's exactly what it is.
Diluting the point of the game for the sake of inclusivity would be a huge shame; I'm always for artistic integrity, even if the result isn't for me. DS definitely is not for me, but asking for an easy mode just because I'm not good enough would be just as selfish as the "git gud" elitists you find around, if not worse.
Oh and btw I terribly suck at this games but I managed several bossfights, it's not like it's impossible; the game also gives you EXP and summons to counter the high difficulty so it's not like you're left to your own devices. If DS games really wanted to be "git gud" heaven, they wouldn't feature those "crutches" for less experienced players (see Sekiro).
Meh, a pretty mediocre list. I'd go SMTV, Metroid, Zelda, Atomic Heart...aaaand that's basically it. I was curious (and scared) to see Bioshock 4, but we all know how Take Two went about this E3 lol
@TheFrenchiestFry yeah the hypocrisy in this comment section is absolutely palpable.
I mean there's people actively hoping for TES VI to be bad, rather than just buy it on a different platform and enjoy something they like π How can people be so tribalistic about consoles and games I will never get π€·πΌββοΈ
The butthurt around Game Pass on this site is becoming incredibly petty and unbearable. If you love PS so much and are against GP, why fill your mouth with this nonsense? Just buy the game when it comes out and be happy, since you prefer it that way π
@ShadowofSparta @Breezy141 had a really bad day and a couple of beers at night, sorry guys. That was an idiotic take and you are absolutely right, I apologize and I wish you a great day/night.
I'll avoid posting when I'm inebriated from now on π
@Breezy141 that wasn't the point; I've seen the announcements. "They still make other games" is not a point, sorry. I'm fine with superhero games and everything existing, but nowadays it's like there's a superhero everywhere: games, movies, series, everywhere Marvel, DC, The Boys, Invincible...I find it a bit much personally, can I? I find it annoying cause I never said these things are bad, I'm just saying I'm tired of this oversaturation; nonetheless, my opinion must be countered cause it offends superhero fans.
I opened with "this is a personal rant" in order to avoid the kind of defensive reply like @ShadowofSparta's, which I find very annoying and hypocritical, but it seems that that isn't enough.
Me tired of 10 years of Marvel everywhere is an abhorrent opinion, but you disliking my opinion in the same way is okay?
Telling me to ignore Marvel content while not ignoring my take is kinda funny.
I'm glad for the fans who can play and enjoy the games, of course, I'm not taking anything away from anyone.
Can I just say I'd rather devs make projects they created and are passionate about, rather than phoned-in tie-ins which will remain as footnotes in gaming history?
I'm sure GOTG will be good and Eidos will love working on it, don't get me wrong, but how much creative risk can you take with a huge licensed franchise compared to your own IP?
Or are we arguing that Marvel's Avengers was time better spent than Tomb Raider?
Wow, now that you've broken i down it actually sounds cool as hell! I'm not into multiplayer games (I'm terrible at those lol) but I might try this one out if the execution is up to snuff.
It's just unfortunate that such an interesting concept is so hard to convey; as you said, I came away from the trailer pretty disappointed as it doesn't explain the game very well.
Surely you mean Switch and PS4/5. Those are all NES/SNES games to begin with.
Btw yeah, absolutely moronic move, but I guess they'll port them over someday. I've always wanted to try out some classic FF like V or VI, I've always heard great things.
Ok this one is a bit of a personal rant: I'm so tired of these movie franchises being everywhere.
I don't like superheroes at all, so this Marvel infested era really is starting to grate me a bit after 10+ years of superheroes everywhere, but that's not the main point.
The main point is that we already have great and beloved video game franchises, we don't need another boatload of Marvel/DC games every freaking year, especially if they give it to Eidos instead of having them work on Deus Ex, a new IP or something they want, whatever that may be.
I play videogames because I like videogames, and videogames already have their own series and mythos. Don't take that away just to give rabid Marvel fan the zillionth project with the same characters.
I mean, don't Marvel fans ever get tired? Don't they like something else too from time to time? Lol
@JohnnyShoulder whoa, I didn't know that! I was excited enough for this game as everything speaks to me, but that definitely seals the deal! Let's hope it delivers when it comes out!
Sounds exactly like every other Souls game then. It's certainly gonna be good, not doubting that, but I'm not a big fan of Souls games and From has been making those for almost 15 years now. I expected some kind of shakeup, but it's still way too early to rule that out. For now, though, it sounds a little underwhelming.
"It always amuses me how Nintendo is always exempt from these kind of discussions. It's always Sony who needs an answer to Game Pass or who needs a better PC strategy."
I mean, it's not amusing, it's painfully obvious. Nintendo had the foresight of creating their own bubble in order not to compete directly with the other behemoths, cause they knew they wouldn't have had a chance on an economical and technological standpoint. The fact that they are exempt from this discussion is itself proof that they've made the smartest choice; not everything needs to be homogenized, and I think that's Sony's main problem.
Sony are very good at what they do, but they don't seem to have the same foresight in that they're still openly competing with MS, and we all know that's never a good idea, since MS can play the long game, bleed money for decades, and still come out on top at the end.
Sony don't have the same luxury, and that's why I think MS's focus on GamePass and services is more beneficial to Sony than MS at the moment, because if MS wanted to take the battle to Sony's own turf they'd "lose" now, but certainly "win" in the long run.
TL;DR: it's expected of Sony to respond to MS because they're still fighting in more or less the same space, although they've been differentiating their businesses these last few years. If Sony didn't want to openly compete, I'm afraid they'd have to create their own niche like Nintendo did, cause you simply cannot expect to compete with MS's basically infinite resources.
@Daveuppercut I thought the same π Wingsuit aside, they were in Necromunda and that released like last week.
It's funny how these humongous AAA franchises like Battlefield are too big to fail or even risk, so what do they do? Poach everything from every other game under the sun.
I'll optimistically wait and see as I really like DQ, but if there's one series where it sounds misguided to shoehorn in the usual, edgy buzzwords, that's DQ.
I really hope by "adult" they don't mean "actually what edgy teenagers think of adult, namely swears, violence and testosterone" like 90% of games out there.
@TeapotBuddha yeah, it's mind boggling. I had to pick up my brain with a spoon after the Mansion's level designer explained the system they came up with for NPCs' pathfinding through modular rooms.
Btw I also really like the Victorian/late 19th century time period (and thus steampunk as well), I tend to prefer it to high fantasy but unfortunately the latter is way more prevalent in games. That's one of the main things that drew me to Dishonored, other than I really like stealth games and immersive sims π
I'm playing this at the moment, such an amazing game. Immersive sims really are something else.
Oh and if you're interested, NoClip recently posted their 1-hour documentary about the series, and it even details The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack In The Slab, such memorable levels. Ok I'll stop gushing now π
The sad thing is not that they'll be releasing this at full price for the third time in as many console generations, the sad thing is it'll still sell like hotcakes despite being a 2013 PS3 clunky, outdated piece of wood.
Yeah I saved them in my notes π
If you got time, maybe send a couple of vocals so that I get what kind of melodies you had in mind for the vocals π
Btw I'm not sure, I've read that 2022 should be ok for concerts, but I've also heard news of very big Italian popstars delaying all the way to 2023 already, so that doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest π
In any case I'll have to be at a mewithoutYou concert before they disband, even though I already know they won't come to Italy cause no band I listen to ever does. They go to every other EU country, but not Italy lol
Says a lot about our musical culture and appreciation ahahhaah
Oh and I'm still sour (should that be bitter? Lol I get confused sometimes) I couldn't catch Dance Gavin Dance in Berlin last year lol
@Jayofmaya thanks for the advice, I'll nab it as soon as it goes on sale π
Heh, to be honest not much going on at the moment music-wise As I told you a lot happened these last few months and I just restarted practicing guitar daily a week or so ago, but I'm still a bit busy with other projects. They've lifted some restrictions here so I'm looking for people to play with, but unfortunately I've found noone so far in my area. One of the perks of living in a city certainly was the abundance of musicians lol
Btw I'll put some time aside this weekend and record some clips for Achromatic Minds, if you'd like π
I'm really digging SO at the moment so I'd be all over a sequel, as the first one is pretty janky in some aspects (and it doesn't really hold up visually).
That said, the grinding/bouncing/"floor is lava" mechanic makes it way more fun to me than most other by the numbers open world games.
Games like this one, Infamous SS, or Just Cause 3, for example, as shallow as they are, they at least have a satisfying traversal mechanic that isn't just "follow the dotted line", and keep me more engaged throughout compared to GTA, AC, Far Cry, etc., at least until the inevitable repetition gets stale (usually the 15-20 hour mark for me personally).
Also, I really dig the whole "happy go lucky skater punk apocalypse" aesthetic, though I get why the humor and general tone can be grating to a lot of people (and myself as well sometimes).
Ha, I'm playing this on Switch at the moment π It underwhelmed me a bit at the beginning, but then I "got" how progress works and I've been having quite fun since.
@Jayofmaya hey there Jay, how are you? God I just now realized you're still waiting on news for the song, I'm so freaking sorry! It slipped out of my mind as it's been a hectic few months for me. Let me know if you still need/want anything and I'll make sure to properly set some time apart this time!
On topic: I was going to ask exactly that pn some HL forum before plunging in, as I like to experience things as best as I can and I was wondering if jumping right into BM might be a good idea or if I'm better off playing the original first. Would you say BM?
Heh, to be honest I already find their triple-A, β¬60 games as dull and unappealing as possible, so there's absolutely no chance I'll try out their F2P games. It's a model I really despise and don't want to support.
Ubisoft, call me when you make another Rayman, as that's something I'd instantly get behind!
I've recently played Portal 1&2 and now I understand why people are upset that they don't really do games anymore, as those 2 are definitely among the best games ever made. Guess I'll have to catch up with Half-Life as well!

Re: Mini Review: Chicory: A Colorful Tale (PS5) - Painterly Puzzler Is Almost Perfect
Wow, didn't know anything about this, but such a glowing recommendation surely makes me interested! To the wishlist it goes!
Re: Elden Ring Combat, Open World, and Story All Detailed
Sounds exactly like every other Souls game then.
It's certainly gonna be good, not doubting that, but I'm not a big fan of Souls games and From has been making those for almost 15 years now. I expected some kind of shakeup, but it's still way too early to rule that out.
For now, though, it sounds a little underwhelming.
Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC
Re: Rumour: Call of Duty: Vanguard Reveal Planned for Warzone, Not E3
"virtually every internal studio at Activision is now working on Call of Duty"
I mean, no disrespect to COD fans, but surely noone is happy about this, not even them, right? π
Re: Battlefield 2042 Goes Near Future on PS5 and PS4, Out in October
@Daveuppercut I thought the same π
Wingsuit aside, they were in Necromunda and that released like last week.
It's funny how these humongous AAA franchises like Battlefield are too big to fail or even risk, so what do they do? Poach everything from every other game under the sun.
I'm not saying pulling ideas from other games is wrong, the contrary, but the methodical way in which trends have been employed these last few years makes a lot of AAA games look bland and all alike to me.
At least we got id and DOOM keeping the old school alive π€©
Re: Atomic Heart Trailer Confirmed for E3, Dev Says 'Game Is Ready'
Looking forward to hearing more about this one, it sounds intriguing!
Re: Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate Is a More 'Adult' Dragon Quest, Has Player Choice, New Combat Style
Re: Bethesda Title Dishonored 2 Leaving PS Now on 1st June
@TeapotBuddha yeah, it's mind boggling.
Re: Bethesda Title Dishonored 2 Leaving PS Now on 1st June
I'm playing this at the moment, such an amazing game.
Immersive sims really are something else.
Oh and if you're interested, NoClip recently posted their 1-hour documentary about the series, and it even details The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack In The Slab, such memorable levels.
Ok I'll stop gushing now π
Re: Rumour: Another 'Major' PS5 Exclusive Final Fantasy Game Will Be Announced at E3
Give me another Deus Ex you cowards! π
Re: GTA 5 PS5 Releases 11th November, GTA Online Free for Three Months
The sad thing is not that they'll be releasing this at full price for the third time in as many console generations, the sad thing is it'll still sell like hotcakes despite being a 2013 PS3 clunky, outdated piece of wood.
Re: Don't Hold Your Breath for Bethesda's Starfield on PS5, PS4
Oh look, the fox and the grapes in this comment section π
Re: Valve Boss Gabe Newell Hints PS5, PS4 Projects Could Be Announced This Year
Yeah I saved them in my notes π
Re: Valve Boss Gabe Newell Hints PS5, PS4 Projects Could Be Announced This Year
@Jayofmaya thanks for the advice, I'll nab it as soon as it goes on sale π
Heh, to be honest not much going on at the moment music-wise
As I told you a lot happened these last few months and I just restarted practicing guitar daily a week or so ago, but I'm still a bit busy with other projects.
Re: Insomniac: 'Nothing Really Stopping Us' Working on Sunset Overdrive
Re: Hands On: Gravity Rush, Freedom Wars Fans Will Feel at Home in Scarlet Nexus on PS5, PS4

Re: Trippy Puzzle Game Manifold Garden to Receive PS5 Version, Free Upgrade for PS4 Players
Ha, I'm playing this on Switch at the moment π
It underwhelmed me a bit at the beginning, but then I "got" how progress works and I've been having quite fun since.
Re: Valve Boss Gabe Newell Hints PS5, PS4 Projects Could Be Announced This Year
@Jayofmaya hey there Jay, how are you?
God I just now realized you're still waiting on news for the song, I'm so freaking sorry! It slipped out of my mind as it's been a hectic few months for me.
Let me know if you still need/want anything and I'll make sure to properly set some time apart this time!
On topic: I was going to ask exactly that pn some HL forum before plunging in, as I like to experience things as best as I can and I was wondering if jumping right into BM might be a good idea or if I'm better off playing the original first. Would you say BM?
Re: Ubisoft Commits to Full-Priced AAA Games Alongside Free-to-Play Offerings
Heh, to be honest I already find their triple-A, β¬60 games as dull and unappealing as possible, so there's absolutely no chance I'll try out their F2P games. It's a model I really despise and don't want to support.
Ubisoft, call me when you make another Rayman, as that's something I'd instantly get behind!
Re: Valve Boss Gabe Newell Hints PS5, PS4 Projects Could Be Announced This Year
I've recently played Portal 1&2 and now I understand why people are upset that they don't really do games anymore, as those 2 are definitely among the best games ever made.
Guess I'll have to catch up with Half-Life as well!
Re: Resident Evil's Story So Far, Summed Up in 30 Mind-Twisting Minutes
@residentmeevil @get2sammyb you know what? This is a super cool initiative, I wouldn't mind if you did this for other franchises in the future!
(I haven't watched it yet as I'm busy right now but I'll definitely get to it later!)
