Re: Xbox and Arkane's Blade Game Sounds Like It's Still a Long, Long Way Off

clvr

Screw this game, I'm still fuming they gave the nth comic book based project to one of the best studios in the world, such a waste of talent.
They're not even a good fit, as this is a 3rd person action game.
I'm so incredibly tired of this seemingly neverending era of comic book inspired slop everywhere, especially when they drag Arkane into it.

Re: Asian Skin Is Too Beautiful to Accurately Portray in Games, Kojima Implies

clvr

No, I hate actors in video games just as much as I can't stand Kojima.
He's so pretentious and full of himself, but makes games that are so insecure because he clearly sees cinema as a superior medium.
I don't want nor need real faces and advertising in a video game, they only break immersion and add absolutely nothing in return.

"And in this way, we have provided a unique offering to players and creators in this current console generation.”

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
...Wait, he's serious?
This generation has been a complete sh*tshow for Sony, truly abysmal.
Absurd price increases, barely any exclusive (and the few that are there are basically all sequels and remasters/remakes, aside from Astro Bot), and above all, the completely tone deaf push to live service that has yet to bear any fruit almost a decade later.
Sony is incredibly fortunate that it has such brand power that most casuals buy a PS to play Fortnite and GTA on, because such incompetent management would've sunk most companies.

Re: Fantasy Life Revival Now Well on Its Way to One Million Units

clvr

@Ralizah not true, The Dark Ages may be underperforming sales wise, but it's been widely acclaimed basically everywhere, and rightly so.
It's absolutely unique, which means it won't be to everyone's taste, but I'd has shown once again why they are best in class.
Aside from the technical achievements they keep pushing, there are not many studios out there willing to reinvent their most popular series with each new installment, delivering a fresh new take not only on Doom, but on the whole genre, for the third time in a decade.
That's incredibly impressive if you ask me.

Re: Fantasy Life Revival Now Well on Its Way to One Million Units

clvr

Great news! I absolutely loved the first one to bits and the other night I caved and bought in on my Series X.
I won't hide I was a bit worried about the seemingly hellish development this game went through, but it's an absolutely adorable and charming game brimming with fun stuff to do, congrats to Level 5!
It's weird to see them back on a roll with this, a new IE, AND a new Layton in the span of a year or so after so many years of nothing, but I'm not complaining lol

Re: Analytics Firms Predict Pitiful Full-Price Sales for DOOM: The Dark Ages on PS5

clvr

Still don't get why people are making a huge fuss here over the required download thing...have you guys ever played literally any AAA game in the last decade? Cause I have and most of them do require an internet connection for installing, since the game is rarely on disc.
I'm not saying it's a good practice, in fact as a physical collector I'd obviously much rather have the whole game on disc, but it's simply undeniable that most big games do exactly that.
So why single out Doom? Many comments here in articles related to this game give off a strong impression of wanting this game to bomb, but why? Just because it's owned by Microsoft now?

Re: Mini Review: Despelote (PS5) - Lots of Meaning, Not So Much Game

clvr

What a terrible take.
This is exactly why most reviews are worthless and why video games have such a hard time being considered art.
If you're gonna dock points from a semi autobiographical interactive story presented in such an artful manner for not being an action packed romp, then I'm afraid you never got the point of it in the first place.

Re: Random: You've Been Pronouncing Balatro Wrong (Probably)

clvr

@UnlimitedSevens English is incredibly easy actually. Grammar is super simple and intuitive, it's just the non-transparency that makes it pronouncing correctly difficult for most non natives. But believe me, languages like Italian, Spanish or German are way more complex grammatically.

Re: Random: You've Been Pronouncing Balatro Wrong (Probably)

clvr

Erm, have we all collectively lost the memo that Balatro is an actual Latin word or what?
Cause the article doesn't mention it and treats the word as if it could be pronounced as one sees fit, but it's not a neologism so no, it has its own correct way of being pronounced.
I see Push Square is always on the cutting edge of reporting smh

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

clvr

@DennisReynolds I have and I have replied to your point elaborating on my opinion; could you kindly do the same or will you keep parroting "but you haven't played it"?
If that's the second, I honestly see no point in continuing this discussion.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

clvr

@DennisReynolds what a tired rebuttal.
As if this game was something new or unprecedented (it absolutely isn't), or as if there weren't any other critiques out there (there are plenty).
Also I stated clearly what my main gripe with this kind of game is and this doesn't deviate from that, so am I not allowed to criticise a mechanic that is actually in the game?

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

clvr

@ShogunRok and rightly so.
What's the point of being open if at no point my curiosity is stimulated?
These games might be stunning to look at, yes, but just like GTA, Horizon and many of their ilk are incredibly shallow design wise.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

clvr

@Bentleyma I mean that these games are so focused on being pretty over having any substantive level design that they literally have a scan/X ray vision mode highlighting what's interactive in the world.
No level design, no complexity, no thought required, no skill involved...nothing.
If the world was designed well, the game wouldn't need that kind of crutch to show you the way forward.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

clvr

The fact that this mediocrity was rewarded with an 8 and called "a cut above" makes me really sad, standards really are low.
I will die on the hill that any game that is designed around X ray vision doing the work for you is fundamentally bad, and that's not even touching all the other issues these games have, or how one of the two protagonists is completely broken and superfluous from a gameplay standpoint, despite him being such an interesting character to focus on.

Re: Random: Build Communism with $165 Disco Elysium Poverty Chic Plastic Bag Bag

clvr

@JuiceboxMeister basically all of cultural anthropology as a field goes on to demonstrate what I just told you, along with a dose of history of socialism and how it's been besieged on all fronts by the US and other capitalist forces in every single one of its incarnation.
Seriously, if people educated themselves about socialism we'd stop with this "looking for the best system/nothing's better than capitalism now" nonsense.

Re: Spider-Man 2's Looking Like Another PC Own Goal from Sony

clvr

Lol at the fanboys jumping to absurd conclusions about piracy and PC gamers hating Sony (what? 😂), when in reality people are simply calling out a badly optimized port.
Also gotta love the lack of moderation when a people are called incels undeserving of Sony's games, chapeau.

Re: Horizon Hatred Simmers Once More As Sony Announces Movie Adaptation

clvr

@dark_knightmare2 yes they actually do.
If you think the mainstream reviews are the right avenue for judging a game's artistic merit, I'm sorry but you're completely off base.
Reviews are meant to describe a product, not a piece of art, and that's exactly why mediocre, run of the mill games get high marks.
But then again, you bring up sales as a testament to the games' quality, so I'm not sure we're on the same page as that's the first thing you learn to decouple from art when assessing it as, well, art and not a product.

Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Stellar Blade

clvr

Blergh.
Goes to show what little grasp people have of actually good games, but then again, we live in a world dominated by shallow, meaningless franchises like Marvel and such, so I'm not exactly surprised by the low standards.
With all the great games out in 2024, this shouldn't even be mentioned.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want a Steam Deck-Like Portable PlayStation?

clvr

@kyleforrester87 welcome to the Deck community lol
To be fair I haven't had it for a long time (only a few months), but I absolutely adore the thing, it's become my boomer shooter machine and I love it lol
Other than that, JRPG's I always find great when portable, along with metroidvanias and platformers in general (even 3D ones!).
Some highlights of these first few months include Witchfire (Early Access), HROT, Cassette Beasts, and replaying a lot of DOOM games lol
