Don't you even dare speak of The Finals in the same article as this game. The Finals has literally zero to do with this game, and hero shooters in general; hell, its build customisation is off the charts and absolutely central to the game. Not to mention it is infinitely more unique and innovative, and has a personality of its own to boot, instead of riffing on already popular IP's.
Blergh, I despise everything about Borderlands (aside from the cel shading) so I couldn't be more disappointed. I'm not expecting BioShock 4 to be especially good either for a smattering of reasons, but at least I'm curious as a huge fan of the Rapture duology (Infinite and especially Burial At Sea can burn in a dumpster fire, where they belong).
@ThomasHL can't disagree more. I've always been a single player guy (I only started dabbling in online multiplayer here and there in the last couple of years), but after trying out the beta I was hooked, and The Finals is basically the only game I've played since it launched. And let me tell you, in this six months I've only scratched the surface of the complexity behind it. The sheer amount of possible combinations of classes, specializations and gadgets, coupled with the destructibility of the environments, make it deeply strategic on a moment to moment basis. Sure, it's probably way more chaotic and less predictable than other games without the same distractibility, but it doesn't make it any less deep or strategic. But hey, if you don't like it that's perfectly fine, no game is for everyone
@get2sammyb what @NEStalgia said, and it has the audacity of aping one of the greatest games ever from pretty much every point of view, down to hiring one of the same composers. Can we not just agree that it's a good game with great combat but zero personality of its own? If so, does it really warrant the scores?
@gbanas92 it's a shame noone on the team reviewed it on PS because I think it might've given it a little more time in the spotlight, since it's not that well known outside of the PC community.
@Ralizah I was pretty disappointed by Prodeus, but yeah it's a good game. If you like that, you owe it to yourself to play Dusk and DOOM Eternal! If Dusk is in the top 5 of all time FPS, Eternal is the uncontested number 1.
Heh. Guy's a tool, absolutely, but I don't disagree that taking a non-character like OG Kratos and trying to make him sympathetic isn't a great idea. Create a new IP at that point. Also, just my opinion but GOW 2018 has got to be one of the most overrated games ever.
Why would it be? It'll most certainly be the same game as V, still coasting on the PS2 era design this series doesn't seem to be able to move away from. So no, zero hype here.
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah the grind towards the end of the game is real. To be honest I liked the game so much that I endured it, but it was absolutely a chore. Hope they don't repeat that mistake in 8.
@nomither6 if you knew anything about Wonder, you'd know it's a far more creative game than Spidey 2, actually bursting with ideas. I'm not buying either cause I'm not into 2D platformers anymore and I loathe superheroes, but if I had to choose between a creative, fun platformer and a by-the-numbers open world game with gameplay ripped straight from 15 years old Batman games, well, I know what I'd go for hands down.
@thefourfoldroot1 "originality" says the guy spouting capitalist realism on me lol Your points are so tired I don't even feel like rebutting them. Let's just say I'll wait for you to tell me what invaluable skill CEOs like Bobby Kotick bring to the table that justify them earning 400+ times what their workers earn. But I'm sure you'll keep spouting the same old "they made themselves", blah blah blah
@Mikey856 that line of thinking really disgusts me. I'd like to see what you would do if you were to lose your livelihood to greedy CEOs who rake in the millions and have to retrain for another job after spending all your life studying for it and then doing it. Let's see if you're still willing to lick CEO boots then.
@thefourfoldroot1 dude is it that hard to understand that "what you're worth" is decided by those who are going to pay them? Do you think it's fair for a CEO to decide that actors should starve while they take home 20+ millions a year? I really, really can't fathom this line of thinking.
Can't believe the idiocy and malice in this comment section. Sounds like caring for other fellow humans' livelihood is a rar thing these days. Also, those of you who talk about the "inevitability of AI" don't know the first thing about it, so maybe educate yourself first. Repeat after me: "Artificial Intelligence doesn't exist, yet it will still ruin everything".
@ShogunRok thanks a lot! That's exactly what I was hoping for! I just realized I wrote "crouch" twice in my original comment (I've edited it now), but I guess you still understood what I meant lol Thank you!
@ShogunRok hey there, do you know what buttons those new control schemes change around? Cause I'm a control scheme freak and I'd love to be able to crouch with the right stick and melee with Circle/B.
Thanks in advance!
If I find the time (big if) I'll keep playing Far Cry 5. I have a lot of other games I need to finish, but right now I'm hooked on slaying cultists lol
If you don't know what I or they were talking about, I'm sorry but I don't think it's a great idea to publish such articles on a gaming site. It's like expecting any tabloid to give you a nuanced assessment of a videogame like you do here.
@get2sammyb so let me get this straight: "you've never read a book" is flaming, but spouting straight up verified conspiracy theories is ok? I mean, it's your site so you do you, but frankly that's disgusting. And it was the seventh comment, so much for keeping the conversation on topic.
Aaaahhhh, Roblox, the modern day child slavery!
No but seriously, when a product has children create content which is then sold back to them, there's something seriously wrong.
EDIT: before people jump at me, watch People Make Games' videos on Roblox.
@naruball and it still has nothing to do with what I said. I was referring to the way a game like TOTK has a significantly smaller budget, despite having a similarly huge scope and way more complex systems (on way weaker hardware no less) than Horizon. Now explain to me where Mario Kart or Wii U re-releases enter the equation.
@naruball you know, it'd be great if you could reply to my point instead of devolving in bashing Nintendo fans. What does any of that have to do with what I said?
@4kgk2 #42 nope, I want games to be games. If I wanted to watch a movie, there are literally thousands to watch at any time. No art form has ever elevated itself by aping other art forms, so why should videogames?
Meanwhile, Nintendo keeps pushing the envelope on a comparatively peanuts budget (see TOTK and how it uses ancient tech to create emergent, complex gameplay not seen on much more powerful platforms).
Tonight I'll finally be playing Zelda, I'm so looking forward to it! Oh and I'll certainly play some Battlefield as well, as that's basically the only game I've been playing recently, despite having started other super anticipated games like Omori and Atomic Heart.

Still crying that you haven't reviewed The Finals, and that mention there at the end doesn't help 😭

Re: PS5 Sensation Stellar Blade Has One of the Highest User Ratings Ever
@naruball still none of the two reasons you gave me are about the game itself, but about this freaking charade of a "culture war" going on around it.
Re: PS5 Sensation Stellar Blade Has One of the Highest User Ratings Ever
Eh, if it was multiplatform it would certainly be seen as the poor man's Nier Automata it is, as opposed to the second coming many treat it as.
Re: Random: Kingdom Hearts XIII Cheers for Sweet Revenge Emo Cover Album Will Have You in Tears
Always loved punk, emo and post-hardcore.
Always loathed Kingdom Hearts.

I can confirm though that Dusk HD is strictly PC only for now, but let's hope they bring it over to consoles!
Re: Game of the Year 2023: Graham's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2023
Seeing Dusk there fills my heart with joy 🥳
Easily in the top 5 of best FPS ever.
Edit: if only HROT would receive a console port as well 😭
