@themcnoisy Bigger HDDs are perfect for hardcore gamers, exactly the audience these slim models aren't for. It's better to cut cost in every department (and make it look cheap as well apparently) to lower the treshold for casuals to jump in. These people were really disapointed by last year's CoD Black Ops 2.5 and saw Madden 2016 at a gamer friend's house and want in on the action as well; just not for $399.
If they'll be able to put this ugly duckling on the market for $299 - or $249 even - they can increase their marketshare even further and early PS4 adopters can buy a NEO.
@themcnoisy @Drawfull
Like Draw said, FOV is adjustable. But having the goggles on - which keep on amazing me because of their design - the view is way more natural than one might expect looking at the screen. Even leaning towards the dashboard made exactly the difference you'd expect. As a carthusaist with quite some miles on the track I can honestly say this demo was just incredible. If they manage to get an experience this smooth out of the actual game instead of just 1 lap on 1 track, I will recommend every single person I come across to buy a PSVR and a steering wheel.
The visuals aren't as good as in the actual game ofcourse, Dave (?) in the video is exaggerating a bit, but that has more to do with the quality of the headset than with the game itself. I was quite surprised actually because I was sure they had to make huge comprises to get it running at a steady 60fps (which the extra module converts to a remarkably smooth 120p). Obviously when you put the original next to the VR game you'll see the changes they've made immediately, but 'driving' it yourself will leave even the most hardcore anti- VR gamer impressed; this is exactly what VR is made for! So if you don't focus too much on one specific 'pixel', you will actually believe you're in a car.
But I must stress that a good steering wheel is 50% of the experience, and that shouldn't be forgotten! I've heard talks about inventive use of the Move controllers in the game, but the pedals and force feedback are even more important in VR than when you play in 2D; I honestly believe that if I played this with the DS4, I would've gotten motion sick before the first corner. I would've actually liked for them to have add the option to sit in the driver's seat for an entirety of the race, just to see how I would feel.
@Kellanved My main problem with it all is that the "limited and exclusive" Noctis Play Arts figure turned out not to be limited and exclusive at all; at first they offered just the 3 others at their online store, then Noctis popped up all of a sudden for the normal retail price. I'm more of a PAK collector than I'm a FF fan -which is not to say I'm not fond of (the good ol') FF- so the only reason I was willing to spend 'console money' (I can get an Xbox One + Quantum Break + Halo 5 + Rise of TR for €270) on the darn thing is the not so exclusive PAK figure.
@KomrathDE
They will actually aim for 120fps instead of 90, so I wouldn't worry bout that. Sony's engineers knew from the get-go the PS4s hardware wasn't capable of giving a VR experience like OR can, so they came up with a solution as simple as it's brilliant: simply copy every frame that is put out, so that a 60fps game will be as smooth as a 120fps one.
Even then the PS4 is underpowered and PS VR is cutting corners on the visual side of things to maintain a steady 60 = 120fps, but what can you honestly expect for that kinda money? I'm going all in come October and I'm feeling a sort of excitement that the current gen could never bring me. I just hope they won't just focus on games - that will be proofs of concept anyway the next few years - but also double down on sweet extras like a cinema mode, watching sports and concerts live as if you are there and many more.
Did I mention I just bought them in Europe and shipped em to South Africa but let everyone pay me first (if I didn't ask money first I would end up paying them all knowing our people )
I bought several Ones last month for friends and family cause they were obscenely cheap. The white console bundled with Quantum Break was just $200, which is completely bonkers when you think about it.

Excellent game indeed, we also own Lego Avengers, a game we didn't enjoy as much as the first one btw. But my boys are at an age now that although they like Lego, they want to see a more "realistic" (Superheroes, I know ) approach; no matter how excellent the Lego games are, you still feel you're playing with Lego instead of the actual heroes.
@Joburn90
They're pretty fun if you want some nice co-op with your wife and/ or kids actually. My kids are a bit too young still for the likes of Diablo and are mad about Marvel, so we still regularly play these games on the PS3 from time to time; heck, I even got the first one on the PS2.
I would actually really like it if they make an UA kinda game for the PS4 from the ground up. Just look at how the aformentioned Diablo does it and let us play with our favorite Marvel heroes and fight some punks. They could even have a "build your own hero" mode where you gradually gain superpowers you've lost for some reason.
The AI of the computer controlled teammates is supposedly so smart, that when they come home after a training or after a matchday, they boot up Pro Evolution Soccer to see how football should really be played.
What good are these numbers? What do sales tell us about engagement, customer satisfaction, how many games have been 'platinumed' and hours spent in the Hulu app? What are they hiding from us?
It appears that Sony feels the only way to make older models seem like good value for money without losing too much on the hardware itself, is throwing in a shipload of games in a bundle. It's always a trade off of course, but this means that the potential owners of these bundles will pretty much be set for the next 6 months (or more) and Sony won't be making any money on them in terms of software sales.
Still I feel it's better than dumping your consoles like MS does; because some retailers are offering a One with 1 or more games for less than $200, the value of the brand as a whole is undermined. For most casual gamers, the group both Sony as well as MS are targeting at the moment, paying $299 - $399 for a console that they saw discounted to $199 a couple of weeks/ months back won't feel right.
Maybe it turns out to be some sort of cool device which sends small data packets from the PS4 to the VR processing unit where the data is unpacked to enhance the VR experience. If you read the info on DS's site it seems highly unlikely it's just a simple USB dongle for the controller due to its size, so let's speculate away!

@gingerfrog I just came here to recommend this game to people. Its price was pretty steep at launch, but totally worth the money! The game is chock- full of modes and challenges and the gameplay is so d*mn tight; there are moments when sh*t hits the fan and the game requires your undivided attention that you actually feel like you're playing in the arcades again.
I've already pre ordered 5 games on this list and it amazes me more every time I think of it, but my most anticipated game on this list is Titanfall 2 . I remember people saying that TF1 was "just CoD with mechs" 2.5 years ago, but we've come to a point that when CoD launches this year it's nothing more than a watered down version of Titanfall withóut mechs.
PS4 gamers who don't own a PC or One, or just skipped the game, are in for a treat if they can get over the fact that the first one was an Xbox exclusive (I actually have a friend who refuses to buy Titanfall 2 or Rise of Tomb Raider because of the [timed] exclusivity). Traversal in Titanfall is so smooth and plays a huge part in the game and by giving players a Titan once every few minutes, the multiplayer has a really satisfying cadence to it.
I hope this TF is as accesible for less skilled FPS players like myself as the first one was, so I can feel awesome every single round, no matter what my actual score is.
I've been championing this game as the 'Wii Sports for VR', just to find out Sony isn't putting its weight behind it as much as I would like. This might have to do with the (lack of) raw horsepower the PS4 delivers, but it's a shame nontheless. The more I think of it, the more I wonder how this game will run on the base PS4, cause I can imagine its performance being hamstrung by the CPU.
Because it isn't a VR launch title like I hoped, I'm gonna wait till it will feature a fully fledged VR mode. That said: I hope this game will make Murray an overnight millionaire when it launches instead of having Sony raking in all the dough.
It's about time we get a game like Uncharted 4, Dark Souls 3 or GTAV. Or maybe a smaller title like Ratchet and Clank or Until Dawn would be nice as well, ya know, for sh*ts and g*ggles.
But on a more serious note I think they should give away GoW 3 remastered or maybe even Mad Max or Batman AK; these games are discounted so heavily in some of Sony's sales that I feel they're ultimately doing more damage to the IP than doing themselves a favor. If they give it away with Plus though, people will be more than pleased with the offerings on hand and will surely have a more positive outlook on both the series as a whole as PS Plus as a service.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions here. What a wonderful surprise this is! I went in expecting a game that was too sweet, colorful and 'Japanese' for me, but it hits all the right notes, pun intended. It's a shame they added the #FE bits in because it gives the negative Nancies of this world and/or people who don't understand the difference between 'alterations in localization' and 'censorship' something to nag about.
Even the best chef can't serve a decent roast when he waits for the guests to arrive before preheating the oven. I honestly feel there's a more than decent 'dish' to be had with this approach to football, but when it's rushed out lacking even the most simple of features because of Euro16, it's dead on arrival.
The big difference between the old days and now, is that the launch of a game of this size and budget pretty much seals its faith. Dino can add, tweak and improve all he likes, but he can only hope for Sony to add it to Plus when it's truly finished to be at least a bit of a succes.
It's a shame Dini and the game can't live up to their names and I have the nagging feeling DD grossly underestimated what it takes to develop a game these days, although he spend the better part of last decade educating teens these matters.
@JaxonH I actually sold my Dark Souls 3 on the PS4 because I found out I could get a free copy of the original with the One version. The underdog always has to come up with stuff like that, just like Sony treating us gamers like kings after the big hack in the PS3 days.
I replaced all my DS4 thumbsticks with One sticks and if we could place them differently, I'd be a happy man. And I'm not just talking asymmetrical, but why not place both sticks on top while playing a shooter, just like the Wii U pro controller has?
I find myself playing on my Xbox One more and more, a console that is inferior in every way and made by MS where I emotionally don't have any connection with, just because of their Elite controller. Take Overwatch for instance: I like playing as Mercy, but switching weapons is a b*tch because I have to take my left thumb of the stick. With the Elite Controller however, I just map it to one of the paddles and I'm playing like a pro!
Sony needs to step up its game. I'm playing on a Madcatz MLG pro controller on my PS3 for years now because it's customizable and I buy multiplats, especially shooters, on my One, but if Sony just offers us more choice I could even do without my One.
Although I do understand if people want to boycot this as a matter of principle, I'd highly recommend giving it a try when it's out, the game's actually quite good. I know this is like cussing in church, but I actually enjoyed this game more than I did uncharted 4. And if a complete edition launches for $50 or less, with PS4s enhanced visuals, I think it's excellent value for money and a must own for every gamer.
@The_Gremlin
It sure was! It's the only reason I still use 3D from time to time. Now I think of it, it is a shame they don't add 3D features no more, who knows how good it could look on better hardware?!
I'm so stoked Stardust is coming to PS VR, those are the type of games that can easily justify my PS VR purchase just by tweaking how I view the regular game a bit. Excellent news! Hustle Kings makes sense as well, maybe they'll re-introduce Home too: I feel Home was ahead of its time and could be a smash hit in combination with VR.
@vegeta11
That would be so awesome! Although the games weren't perfect, they have so much potential. There are tons of heroes, all with awesome powers, you'd think one could make an excellent Diablo- esque game out of it. For all I care we get to make our own mutant/ super hero and mix and match powers and gear while we fight alongside the marvel characters we all love so much.
@BladeRider My wife would probably cry too if it gets remastered on the NX; she was practically a single mom for a couple of months straight when that game came out.
Did I expect Nier to get a sequel that looks good? Heck no, i didn't even expect it to get a sequel at all, yet here we are. Over the last decade Platinum Games have become one of my favorite studios and I've come to expected nothing but greatness from them, until recently that is. They seem to offer their services to whomever is paying (royally) and fail to make any meaningful contribution to the industry at this point. Nintendo gave them the freedom to make the excellent Wonderful 101 and even better Bayonetta, but still expected the Nintendo polish, but with 3 mediocre to bad Activision games in 3 years, a Star Fox they should've passed up on and Kamiya's pet project Scalebound not looking very attractive, I'm not too sure bout Nier.
Nier on the PS3 was such a wonderful experience despite it's technical flaws and shortcomings in combat, but I don't think this Platinum Games is the studio to fix this in all honesty. A pure reboot would've been fine, but to hand them over the keys to the car seems risky. Storytelling and world building just isn't their strong suit and a game like Scalebound looks like it's suffering from it. Scalebound once was my main reason to get a One, just like the W101 and Bayonetta made me buy a Wii U, but the more it looked like Platinum Games was doing something new, I realized I don't want them to do something new.
Let's hope Taro Yoko is more than just the "producer", a title that's slapped on the box in exchange for some money or royalties, and really begins where Platinum Games should stop; cause if this game is either too much Yoko or too much PG, I don't think it'll be worth our while.
Yep, creating some good ol' artificial shortages like only Sony can. People who were not sure if they would purchase one at launch now feel they have to, afraid they'll miss out and have to wait for months, just like with the PS4 when it first came out. And the moment a Sony gaffer states they'll be in short supply, scalpers are placing pre orders all over the web.
'Sony: we'll make you buy stuff you never knew you wanted!'
Microsoft always has tight, well directed press conferences, but Sony's conferences are pretty much always the most memorable the last half a decade because they address what it feels like to be a gamer; Microsoft aims for the mind, Sony goes straight for our hearts
I see people saying that "Sony won", but it isn't even about Sony winning this day, or even this e3: this right here, this was the best press conference ever seen on any gaming convention. What a production value! What a pace! And those games, I mean come on!?
Sony has managed to outclass the Americans in their own game and I'm so glad I was there to see it happen live.
$250 is just the price I hoped for, I'm buying it! I do hope it's actually limited this time around, so I won't have to watch friends picking one up 3 months later for $99.
Ubisoft always has one of the better pressers if you ask me and I believe those cringe inducing moments are included on purpose. You can compare it with the obnoxious salesmen and -women on Home Shopping channels; they are annoying as Knack but in the end you know exactly what the product is, how it works and that you want it!
Ubisoft are masters in showing footage of upcoming games. Who doesn't remember the cardoor in the Division? Who didn't notice the SWAT member hanging upside down while shooting through a window in the Rainbow Six Siege gameplay trailer? Those are small elements that are totally useless and unnecessary in the game itself, but they make for an incredible entertaining moment that makes you want to play the game.
One might even go as far as saying that Ubisoft is better in creating hype, than in creating actual games. Watchdogs was a bit of a let down after the huge hype that surrounded it, yet people are talking really positive about part 2 already because Ubi just knows what people like. I'm looking forward to seeing their press conference again, even though I hardly ever play Ubisoft games.
@kyleforrester87
Normally I'd say e3 isn't as big as we like to think, yet it is the biggest (and only) media event which gets coverage by all big newspapers and lots of TV outlets. Actual prices in the store when compared are really important too, but the good word-of-mouth the PS4 got back then started way before the launch. As the "gamer" in the family I still get tons of questions about Xbox' DRM, 'spy camera' and always online (which you can imagine is a huge thing in a 3rd world country).
And for Sony and MS knowing from each other what they're doing... I think MS didn't know what Sony was doing because they kept the PS4 specs really safe, there wasn't anyone who leaked, cause I'm positive MS would've had a stronger GPU as it has since the extra costs are negligible for them. Heck, they could've even had overclocked the current one with the One being this huge.
It's a public secret that all big(her) companies hire "spies" or hire private investigators to find out what the competition is doing. The easiest way is by gaining info from Foxconn's lower ranked factory workers, although it's hard to find some who actually realize what they're working on. But there are tons of stories about how key people in companies leaked to the competition, and not always for money; my brother got really pissed one time after our industry's biggest convention and started talking bout our latest software, which was revolutionary back then. It turned out one of the people he was with was an account manager of our biggest competitor, a newbie we didn't know yet, who got a big raise really soon after he got hired I can imagine.... cause when his companies' new and improved firmware dropped, it had a key feature we had been working on for quite some time (fuel efficiency for certain types of UAVs, boring stuff).
@nyarth
Super dorky? Naaahhh...it's just, you know. Euh. Well Okay, SUPER dorky, but I like the idea
It turns out you can actually wear the Titanfall one and it even comes with extras for your visor and stuff. The Halo and Killzone ones are just for displaying purposes and contain the actual game, but I guess this holiday season I'll be playing Titanfall in style because of your wonderful idea
@BigDaddyT0101 I have the first one too and although it was a bit too expensive, I really like it and the quality is super when compared to similar priced CEs (looking at you Halo 5). I really like the Uber Edition and I hope it won't be more than $250, cause I want it real bad. Normally I can skip a CE I like or take my chances and wait for them to be cheaper, but Titanfall is special for me since it re-introduced me to shooters and made it fun to play online again. The game rewards the skilled, but doesn't humiliate the old 'n rusty like myself.
If you want a nice Titan figure I recommend the Play Arts Kai TF Atlas figure; I have both that one as well as the CE statue standing side by side being awesome. Usually CEs of more recent games get the best places in my collection, but the Titanfall CE will always be front and center! That helmet sure would look good with the Halo Mjolnir and Killzone Helghast helmets, but I think it'll be of much higher quality. The other one with the bust looks pretty sweet too after taking a second look....
I'll probably end up buying both for the price of a NEO :S

Re: Talking Point: What July PlayStation Plus Free Games Do You Want?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 123

Re: Review: Dino Dini's Kick Off Revival (PS4)

I would even wanna go as far as saying its a preposterously pretty game on all platforms!

Re: Sony Patents Elite PS4 Controller with Paddles and Adaptable Layout
@JaxonH
I actually sold my Dark Souls 3 on the PS4 because I found out I could get a free copy of the original with the One version. The underdog always has to come up with stuff like that, just like Sony treating us gamers like kings after the big hack in the PS3 days.
Re: Sony Patents Elite PS4 Controller with Paddles and Adaptable Layout
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4's Still Holed Up in Croft Manor
Although I do understand if people want to boycot this as a matter of principle, I'd highly recommend giving it a try when it's out, the game's actually quite good. I know this is like cussing in church, but I actually enjoyed this game more than I did uncharted 4. And if a complete edition launches for $50 or less, with PS4s enhanced visuals, I think it's excellent value for money and a must own for every gamer.
Re: Super Stardust Ultra, Hustle Kings Are Seemingly Coming to PlayStation VR
@The_Gremlin
Re: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Will Roll Out on PS4
@vegeta11

Re: E3 2016: This Is the Best Final Fantasy XV Video You'll See at E3

My wife would probably cry too if it gets remastered on the NX; she was practically a single mom for a couple of months straight when that game came out.
Re: E3 2016: This Is the Best Final Fantasy XV Video You'll See at E3
@rjejr
Funny, this clip made me think bout Xenoblade Chronicles too! If XV is anything like it, I'll be a happy man!
Re: E3 2016: Who'd Have Ever Thought NieR Would Get a Sequel That Actually Looks Good?
Way to turn this into a Scalebound article
Re: E3 2016: Sony Anticipates PlayStation VR Supply Shortages
Yep, creating some good ol' artificial shortages like only Sony can. People who were not sure if they would purchase one at launch now feel they have to, afraid they'll miss out and have to wait for months, just like with the PS4 when it first came out. And the moment a Sony gaffer states they'll be in short supply, scalpers are placing pre orders all over the web.
'Sony: we'll make you buy stuff you never knew you wanted!'
Re: E3 2016: We Won't Dictate the Future of PS4 to Our Fans, Says Sony
Weren't we promised 4K output when the base PS4 was initially announced, or am I mistaken?
Re: Feature: All the E3 2016 Press Conferences Rated and Reviewed
Microsoft always has tight, well directed press conferences, but Sony's conferences are pretty much always the most memorable the last half a decade because they address what it feels like to be a gamer; Microsoft aims for the mind, Sony goes straight for our hearts
Re: Talking Point: Did Sony PlayStation's E3 2016 Press Conference Deliver?
I see people saying that "Sony won", but it isn't even about Sony winning this day, or even this e3: this right here, this was the best press conference ever seen on any gaming convention. What a production value! What a pace! And those games, I mean come on!?
Sony has managed to outclass the Americans in their own game and I'm so glad I was there to see it happen live.
Re: E3 2016: Titanfall 2's PS4 Vanguard Edition Costs $250
$250 is just the price I hoped for, I'm buying it! I do hope it's actually limited this time around, so I won't have to watch friends picking one up 3 months later for $99.
Re: Poll: Take the Push Square E3 2016 Community Predictions Quiz
Re: Sony Confirms 'High-End' PS4K Exists, Won't Be at E3
@kyleforrester87
Re: Looks Like There'll Be Two Titanfall 2 Collector's Editions
@nyarth
Re: Sony: Consumers Are Attuned to a Different Cadence of Technology Innovation
While growing up I had a neighbor called Cadence, who was pretty hot. She had a new boyfriend every 2 weeks; It all comes together now.
(Because you probably all wanna know: no, I wasn't one of those boyfriends, I had Counter Strike She did give me a handjob once)
Re: Looks Like There'll Be Two Titanfall 2 Collector's Editions
@BigDaddyT0101
I have the first one too and although it was a bit too expensive, I really like it and the quality is super when compared to similar priced CEs (looking at you Halo 5).
