Why Activision, you already have Destiny don't you? I hope Titanfall 2 will position itself directly against CoD and show them who's the boss... would be cool to see them go up against their former employee. For the record: I don't want CoD out of the way, I just want a complete reset. This year's iteration is jam packed full of shooter goodness, it's almost ridiculous how much content they squeezed in, yet CoD hasn't been CoD for such a long time now. It's wants to be something it's clearly not, something Titanfall mastered to perfection, and a "space CoD" would really be preposterous. This setting combined with IW not being a shadow of their former selves could really hurt sales and critical reception, which might make Activision rethink their strategy.
It could still be anything though, I remember reports back in 2010 that they were working on a CoD with "space marines", which eventually lead to Advanced Warfare. I still think their best move would be to remaster MW2 with all DLC and introduce a season 2 for Blops 3, which could even be bundled. That way you keep the current players happy and have a game which will bring back all the people they've lost along the way.
@rjejr
That's pretty much the idea. Stop producing PS4s for your parts of the world and just clear stock, the 2nd hand market will account for an even distrubution of the base models amongst the less wealthy and people who don't care. Sony makes money of off software sold, so they don't mind a lively 2nd hand market. As long as the PS4.5 isn't more expensive than $399 and the old model is phased out at $349 in the west (make it attractive to go more expensive), they can sell the base models in Africa, China and South America for $199- $249.
@get2sammyb
Way to own it! The internet doesn't forget anyway, no matter how bad we all would like it to
OT: I've been a very vocal supporter of the PS4.5, way before we even called it PS4.5 or PS4k, but it's not entirely selfish. Where everyone thinks Sony is shooting itself in the foot with this, I reckon both MS and they realize that home console gaming isn't a growing market and with software sales down year over year things need to happen. Not only will Sony have to make money of VR headsets (you think those will launch with 7/8 years in between?), hardware is a great way to do it too as the last 2 years have shown.
So where is the non selfish part, cause it still looks like daddy want some new toys more than anything. There is a way to make the console market grow, but it's clearly not in the first world (nor second); if Sony with the power of its PS brand manages to sell us $400 PS4.5s, 3rd world countries will have a treshold that will be much lower because the price of units can drop way faster. So not only families who don't game or people on tight budgets in the west can enjoy a cheaper PS4 base model, about 80% of the world's population might.
People in the West take gaming for granted or simply figure that we in 3rd world countries have other things to worry about, and although this is partly true, people don't understand how important gaming is in lots of upcoming nations; I've seen people literally trade in their cars for PlayStations, so if these people can play all the games we can, but just in a slightly lower res, than it would most certainly stop a lot of them from pouring the little money they have in mobile gaming.
Gamers better adapt to the new reality, cause else there won't be any console gaming left in the near future. Making home console "experiences" is extremely expensive and risky and console gaming is lagging behind PC gaming by a bit and behind Mobile gaming by light years. Kids who go to high school now don't game on home or handheld consoles anymore, they spend their $60 a month (or more) on mobile games and find us old fashioned. Keeping up with tech and trends and offering a lower level of entry are 2 smart ways of making console gaming relevant again. For you lot claiming we're just doing fine btw, don't let the interpretation of sales numbers by PR spin doctors fool ya: the market isn't growing at all, and to stand still (or even shrink) is to lose in these times.
I believe it was also in PS I love you XOXO where they discussed PSVR's software line up and raised an issue I wholeheartedly agree with: 50 games is just too much!! If there will be 50 full fledged games/ experiences available in the launch window, there will be a lot of devs and publishers getting burned. The installbase for PSVR won't be high enough to accommodate 50 games in the launch window and I hope these will mostly small, bite sized experiences we can buy for a couple of dollars. What you don't want is to have big studios to come out guns blazing, look at their sales figures of the first few months and then call it quits, like what Ubisoft and many others did with the Wii U for instance.
Played this game religiously for 2 weeks, than forced myself another week not to give up on it, but now I just can't play anymore tbh... The game is so freaking good, but I can't seem to care 2 efs. I played IV through all its iterations and even stuck to it while it launched in a horrible state last year on the PS4, but now the "SF feeling" just seems gone somehow.
When I played Street Fighter V earlier this week I kept on thinking how I wanted to play Killer Instinct instead, which I ultimately did. I really like that game and just poured another $40 in for a new season with a smile on my face. That could've been SFV, where I pay $40 every year to own all content but where I know every gets to play it if they just bother to download it because it's free. You can play this game on a pro level without investing or just paying $1 in a sale. When I compare both games on a technical level both are extremely fine tuned, but SFV is definitely the better fighter in my book, but because of the different "earnings models" both chose I prefer to play KI instead. With SFV there is just too much insecurity about what's coming, but I do know they made us pay too much upfront.
Why spend 80 million on a triple A game with the risk of never making it back, when for that kinda money you can have an excellent new mobile game on iOS and Play Store every week for 2 years straight??
Almost everyone who bought a PS3 at launch, and coincidentally didn't have any food for two months straight, has a soft spot for Motorstorm and for me that's no different. There wasn't much to choose from back then but with the magic combo of Motorstorm and Heavenly Blade you didn't really care. Motorstorm didn't only play great, it was best showcase to convince friends, and mostly yourself, that the PS3 was worth it not driving a car for. The graphics were breathtaking and with the good ol' six axis you could show off motion controls as well.
I've had so much fun with every other Motorstorm since then and it struck a beautiful balance between arcade and more sim style racing: every vehicle handled completely different and felt "lifelike", but the concept of the game and its presentation reminded me so much of the arcades in the mid 90s. The games had charm and were above all just plain fun to play, something excellent racers like GT and Forza lack to be honest. Driveclub is an excellent game and although it didn't reinvent the genre, it had a very distinct feel which brought some of the Motorstorm fun to the handling of the car and some of the tracks.
I guess I'll never see a Motorstorm again, which makes me quite sad. After playing Pacific Rift for old times sake yesterday I realized that Mororstorm equals PS3 for me, a console I truly adore. I've had some troubles "adjusting" to the PS4 because I still feel that the PS3 did lots of things better and the PS4 doesn't offer great value thus far; sure, some of the graphics look better but the PS3 looked just fine and the only real noticeable improvement in Uncharted 4 for example will be the new DualShock to play it with. Motorstorm is a game that embodies that feeling you have when you enter a new generation of hardware, it embodies Evolution.
I hope this is happening! Finally a good reason to buy a "slim" model other than the bigger HDD. And Sony isn't insane, neither are all the major publishers: of course they're not abandoning PS4 1.0, the new PS4k will just be able to run games a bit better! People who are crying foul about Sony "betraying" them should just think before they start ranting on and on about this OR should be honest and say that they realize the old PS4 will be almost fully compatible, but they just don't want others to have a better console then they do; they went ahead and bought a PS4 so they can humiliate One owners every chance they get, so if their precious PS4's performance would be worse than that of a new PlayStation, they can't make others feel miserable anymore!
This should be the future: affordable consoles every 3 year, all based on the same architecture. They will use widely available parts that give an incredible performance, but aren't as expensive as they were 2 years back when they were the hottest piece of tech around. No more PSs that cost $800 and are still sold at a loss, instead they'll make affordable hardware that is sold with a small profit, which has a revision every 2 or 3 years to give the consumers a chance to keep up with the latest tech. The first year the 2.0 model will be mainly used to play backward and forward compatible games at a better resolution, but after some time there will be big publishers that want their games to reach its full potential and make an PS4 2.0 exclusive; at that point, 4 or 5 years after you spend $399 on your console it's up to you to decide if you want to keep up, or wait a bit till the next iteration is out or 2.0 is cheaper.
@JoeBlogs
Surely it isn't dead yet, but even within Sony's highest ranks there is a huge concern that the "growth in sales" is no "growth in potential amount of consumers". The overall numbers that should show console gaming is doing so well are largely interpreted in the industry's favor and the variables I've mentioned aren't taken into account; although Sony and MS seem to be doing well, software sales are alarming.
Sony branching out into VR and MS focussing on PC have a very good reason: they themselves don't think they'll be able to sell the same amount of home consoles that were sold the last generation and therefor they need other sources of income. These numbers that are shown all over the Internet and even reached mainstream media are far from telling the entire story and with even the slightest inside knowledge you could easily debunk the stories that home console gaming is doing better than ever, because the "growth" is artificial and highly debatable; sometimes statistics do lie!
So factoring in the alarming negative difference in units sold by Nintendo and the fact that the PS3 released much later than the 360 did that era (so the numbers are for a large part made up by 360s sold, especially with the PS3 being so expensive at the start), we can conclude that the console market actually isn't doing as well as we all like to think.
Then there is also the realistic possibility that gamers entered this new gen way earlier than they did back then, because last gen went on far longer than the one before, where the first Xbox just launched a couple of years earlier.
We can all bend and twist numbers the way we like, I'm more interested in the intrinsic value of these numbers... unfortunately we see a lot of copy/paste journalism these days.
@JaxonH
Dude, that would mean you bought for about $7500 worth of games at Best Buy alone! Where do you get the time to play em all? That's about 10 games a month, give or take... Wow! Best Buy's offer is pretty sweet though: makes every new game on the market drop immediately below the $50 mark.
A $50 or less pricetag is usually all it takes for me to pre order, especially since I started selling my used games about 2 years ago. I used to hold on to about every title, where I'd usually only replay Nintendo titles or Souls games, so I decided to start selling games when they were still hot; I would actually make money playing games, were it not for all the collector's editions and guides I buy.
An unemployed friend of mine searches for all the best deals online and then notifies me, I haven't paid more than $50 for a pre order in ages now! And the strange thing is that the moment these games actually hit the store shelves, sometimes they're discounted the first week, but usually the price goes back up to $60 or more right away and stays there for a couple of months (€60 to be exact, and I believe in Europe the RRP is actually €70 instead of €60). So when I finish a game within a month and sell it on a local online marketplace, I actually tend to get more than I spend on it!
Hahaha! Finally a gaming competition where white nerds don't have a huge advantage over us! Although I admire your courage @get2sammyb, it's probably best you cheer me on while I do what I do
@SonyInfinity
Haha, I don't necessarily think there will be a PS4.5, this report sounds more like Sony's discussing with major studios when they should launch the PS5. The moment 4k gaming is mentioned you know it'll take a pretty heavy CPU and GPU and at this point a 4K gaming console would be too expensive. The logical choice would be AMD, but even with AMD manufacturing at a loss like they did when this gen started, I don't think a 4K gaming console can be made for under $600 till at least 2018.
I do think it would be a good move for Sony, not just because I want it. I think that it would open up new possibilities for them and increase overall software sales. At first I figured that if this were to happen, MS would be the first to do so, but I'm not too sure about that when I thought about it some more; Sony is in a position very much like Apple is where they can't seem to do no wrong and I believe that bringing a 4.5 on the market will give people a much needed extra option to choose from within the PS framework. People who haven't bought a new console yet could go for the $249 PS4, a price like that would open it up for casuals, families, grannies and 3rd world countries. And for $399 there could be this new and improved PS which suits the needs of hardcore and especially VR gamers better.
My parents aren't interested in hardcore gaming or VR, but a $249 Netflix machine where their grandkids can play games on would be a no brainer. My kids could play the same games as they do back home and even pick their saves out of the cloud, but it'll be with slightly worse visuals and a lower framerate. iPhone 5 is still selling like hotcakes all around the globe because it does pretty much the same as a 6s does, but at a lower cost. Sure, it's slower and some games are iPhone 6 only, but the majority of games, apps and functions is readily available.
I honestly think they're on to something if they just handle the sentiments right. They should explain the way I just did that nothing's gonna chance for people with a PS4, unless they want to! If they want to upgrade they'll have 4K (or better 1080p visuals and framerate realistically speaking) and better VR performance, if they don't they won't even notice because all the games that were coming to PS4 are still coming out.
As a closing thought I'd like to express that aside from the vocal negative Nancies that feel console cycles should last 10 years (which I noticed are coincidentally the same people who are always bashing Xbox, keep on whining about censorship which they know nothing about and are really hostile towards women involved with gaming who they always see as f*cking femi nazis*) I see people thinking way to far ahead. People are dreaming up what games would be possible in the future and although I understand, I'd like to take a step back and consider what it can do for our current library. The new 3ds seems a waste of money on first glance with just one port and some SNES games that are exclusive, but it was one of the best things to happen to handheld gaming for me since the Vita because it gave me an incentive to replay lots of games I already owned and made me appreciate my 3ds library way more! Games like Luigis Mansion, 3D land, Pokemon Y, Mario Kart, SSB, MGS, Mario Golf and many more opened up to me in a way that I never thought they would; they played more smoothly, handled better, booted up faster and the 3D effect was all of a sudden the best feature to grace handheld gaming, whereas previously I hated it. Just think about Bloodborne, The Witcher, AC Unity, Just Cause and so many more that will be playable like the devs intended for the first time! I don't even need exclusive PS4.5 games when I can play Blooodborne on 60fps!
*based on my experiences on a SA gaming forum where I'm part of; on pushsquare we just have Sammy as our resident fanboy
@SonyInfinity Those SNES games aren't 3ds' meat and potatoes and it's exactly stuff like that that should come as a lil extra for people that upgrade or buy the better version right away. As long as your Uncharteds, CoDs, ACs etc are playable on both systems the casuals are fine! And for the tech loving, more hardcore crowd there will be awesome new things that are possible with their PSVR, a headset only they own probably.
Look, there's always gonna be that vocal minority who starts protesting because that is what they do. If you were to believe the Internet all localized Nintendo games would be boycotted for instance, yet they sell better every installment... It's just a small group of people who keeps going on about stuff 99% of the people just don't care about. We always got revisions with other hardware like phones, CD players, Blu Ray Players, Discmans (discmen?), LCD/ LED/ Plasma TVs, decoders etc etc, where newer models functioned significantly better than old ones, but we don't mind if there are newer models because they do the same thing our old model does, but better. A new PS4.5 wouldn't be much different, it's like the 4K TV under the consoles: your 1080p will still display Eastenders, the 4K just does it better!
@SonyInfinity
The thing is that we won't have the problems we saw at the beginning of this gen: games are backwards and forwards compatible, except for a small amount of games that are simply impossible to run on the old model. Just think New3ds with just 1 game, a port, that the old model can't run. But the owners of the new model do have better performance, better 3d and some small cute mostly cosmetic extras.
Why wouldn't it work? I think it would even attract more people. The old model would be still marketed and offered cheaper as the +/-$400 PS4.5. People who are still in the market for a new gen console can choose whether to go cheap or pick the best. There will also be a lively 2nd hand market because about 20% of the current userbase will immediately upgrade and because Sony makes money on software, not hardware, that would be just great because people aren't likely to sell their games with the console because of BC.
Sure, a modular console might even be better, but then again an entire new model would have the benefit of Sony engineers designing it, so your always okay fan- and powerwise. People who are afraid their old consoles won't work with the new games should think it over: which dev would sink millions into a game just 30- 40% of the userbase can play? Like you said, we saw this "problem" earlier with the transition to PS4, but since both will be x86 architecture based consoles we won't have similar problems for devs. By the time games have evolved so much they have to leave the old PS4 behind, you surely have had 5-6 solid years worth of gaming on it; don't forget we're already in its 3rd year on the market already.
The way I see it gamers will benefit, Sony will benefit, VR will benefit and the entire industry will benefit. Console gamers have become too accustomed to insanely much value for their money and sometimes don't have realistic expectations of what games or a console can or should deliver. I think by adopting a new model we can make this industry more healthy again and more importantly make sure we're getting cutting edge technology. VR will need more than what the current PS4 can offer and so do our 4K TVs; why wait another 6 years for better performance and new experiences when we can have it this year at a price that'll be just as fair as the $400 we paid 2 years ago?
Every time this discussion pops up you see people reacting negatively without even considering what it actually is. First off: NO, it won't fragment the user base! It will just enable people to play their PS4 games at a better resolution, framerate and with more post processing effects. There might be a few games harnessing the true power of the PS4.5, but most devs won't bring out a huge triple A title and neglect 75% of the userbase. And second of all: do we really want another PS360 era where games were severely hamstrung by the hardware? And last gen we were fortunate enough to get state of the art tech at its time, something we can't say bout the One and PS4.
A PS4.5 would be a logical and natural step in the right way and would be in line with other high tech products and PC gaming; instead of upgrading the CPU or GPU every 2 years, we let Sony use widely available and cheap components to mass produce PC like consoles, just like we have now, so people who actually care can play games with a better performance. This is NOT like a PC, so please stop don't tell me I should be a PC gamer: I want a closed OS, I want someone else to prepare my updates and I want one of the best tech companies in the world to pick my hardware, so we can get cheap and reliable gaming.
Stop fighting the future and give technology a chance. Games and VR will make leaps if we go from a 8 year to 3 year cycle! Just like with $60 games where people expert 300 hours of joy, we should realize that $400 consoles can only do so much. Our hardware was outdated the moment it launched, a PS4.5 is the only right thing to do for Sony: games will be mostly forward compatible and with backward compatibility jumping to the better hardware will not only give us the chance to play our older games, it'll give games like Bloodborne a second life with the fps it deserved all along.
What a MS move of them! Even if they decide to open up pre orders for just the headset at a later date, most early adopters are gonna pre order this one anyway to make sure they have one at launch.... It seems like Sony knows :S
I hope this bundle won't come to the Pal region; I recently bought a sh*tload of move controllers and Duracell docking stations on the cheap so I can sell them bundled to PSVR buyers. I'm planning to make some serious money of of this, so don't screw me over Sony
One of the best games of the year so far and a game that screams that it wants to be played on the Vita. Thankfully it'll come to Vita later and since it's cross-buy and cross- save I can pick up where I left for free later.
To think it's just a husband and wife who made this game, beautiful! I am spending more and more money on "indies" lately, I preordered 3 of the games that are currently 10% off already, and I'm feeling much better handing these people over my money than these big companies. So no waiting for this to come to Plus or to be discounted, I'll wait for the Division to drop in price; Ska studios deserves every last penny they're asking for!
I already ordered 2 last night at different retailers so I won't miss out. This is the kinda excitement that I wanted to feel when the PS4 launched but wasn't quite there and I can't wait till it's October. I saw Sammy commenting earlier that gaming in general has become a little stale for him and I've felt exactly the same the last couple of years, finally VR is here to change that!
@SKC_Diamond @WARDIE As long as your seated you'll be fine, which immediately makes me realize there is a good chance it'll be a VR take on the Squadron Fighter bit. How awesome would that be?? Or how about operating an AT-AT?? You could probably even build that into the regular multiplayer, where the VR people man the vehicles and the paupers have to travel on foot
@SKC_Diamond
Honestly I wouldn't expect the game ported to PSVR, that is quite frankly impossible. VR the first years will be a neat little extra, something to enhance the gaming experience and a huge screen to play on, but it won't let you play a shooter as complex as Battlefront in VR; we're simply not there yet technically.
I think it'll be something like Vive is getting, Tatooine or Endor recreated for VR for us to explore. There'll be some small interactive sequences probably, unfortunately we'll see those shoehorned into every VR experience the first year or so, but nothing like the full game. Still, if they're creative and just accept the fact the technology isn't as far as we want it to be, it could really add to the experience or be a awesome new chapter on its own.
I don't know if I could hear my friends on Xbox over my PS VR anyway, so who gives a Hololens?
MS surely is back on their PR feet btw after the Xbox launch debacle; thinking back I still have no clue how they could've let that happen. They have been so smart lately with their BC, Phil Spencer loving everything and everyone, their line up which was pretty impressive, a real gamer's controller and now this...they can spin the most basal things into something huge, but they can never make up for that incredible slip up it seems.
@finalstan They'd be foolish not to! I remember vividly my first time being in Europe and going to some sort of county fair where a Nintendo roadshow was present showing of games like Megaman and Castlevania. Every 5-18 y.o. there couldn't give 2 ducks about the food, the other stands or the bigher attractions; we all waited in line to play 10 minutes on a Nintendo, just to get back in line right after. When we got home we couldn't stop talking about it and we didn't stop bugging our parents about it till they finally gave us one for "Sinterklaas" (the OG Santa Clause).
Roadshows aren't cheap and seem really outdated, which is somewhat true, but to show off the capabilities of your VR headset there's no better alternative. I've had the privilege to try PS VR more than once and I honestly believe that seeing is believing. And it's not just the VR experience alone which will stun people; the headset itself seems like this awesome mix of a Tron and Star Trek contraption and is ergonomically far superior to the rest. I am sure that if you let 10 "maybes" try it on, 7 will go out and buy one immediately afterwards.
Not an incredible feature?? I've been saying this for months now, but this is huge!! All those nay-sayers that don't want gaming to change wouldn't believe me when I said that even for them it'll offer great value by giving us our own private home theatre! It'll project a virtual screen that only rappers have in their homes, so when the missus is watching her shows, this player's gonna shoot some s*ckers in their *ss while enjoying a 110" screen on his VR bad boy.
Haha, I bought a sh*tload of move controllers for next to nothing the other day because I was anticipating this. I also bought about 40 of those Duracell charging stations, which will come in really handy now. I'd suggest you stuck up now, cause prices will certainly skyrocket once the release date approaches.
I'm in! Excellent pricepoint! I bet we'll see a PS4 slim + PSVR headset for $599 in holiday season 2017: VR FOR EVERYONE!
I've been waiting for this f*kken moment (sorry Tasuki) for over 25 years now and it's finally happening! Man, I'm so excited! I can't wait to pre order and start enjoying the road towards the release date; I just love the anticipation for huge launches like these, reading up on everything, checking your order status every day just to be sure and talking about it endlessly with friends and family.
Salt and Samctuary! Finally! Boy oh boy, can't wait to play it. For people who don't know it, please check it out on YT or watch the trailer. And when you're not sure whether you want to buy it, just remember it's just a husband and his wife who made the entire game; isn't that the cutest thing you've ever heard! In an idustry so vile and corrupt, these 2 managed to bring us such a wonderful game.... They would've gotten my money just for trying!
I've given it some thought, but I decided I want to share this magical moment on PushSquare first; today history will be written.... If it's indeed unveiled
I think PS VR will be $79.95 with just PlayRoom VR and $99.95 with 2 move controllers and 2 games extra.
@Feena Indeed! Those titles just feel like Vita titles to me; getting comfortable on the sofa or in my bed and just play the way I want it. Playing on a handheld is just more relaxed and it's ideal for smaller games and RPGs because of the very nature of these games.
@rjejr About a year ago a friend of mine wanted to borrow my PS4, he torn some ligaments in his knee so he had plenty of time to game. After about 2 months he asked me if I wanted my PS4 back and honest to God I didn't miss it at all! Sure, I also own all other consoles, but it's the PS3 that keeps on pulling me back....
XCX is one of the best games this generation and I wish I could go back in time to play it again. I don't have the time to start all over, I spent 128 hours in it, but sweet Lord what a game; everything it does, it does right. I'm now playing Bravely Second, which I really like too, but sometimes my mind wanders off to XCX. The Wii U is such a wonderful console, the Gamepad is an almost perfect controller (I'm serious) and it has some of the best games this gen for sure...a shame so little gamers care.
@rjejr I find myself playing PS3 games more and more often lately, I even play games on it I also own on PS4 like Resogun and Helldivers. The store is ridiculous, just like downloading and installing is, but other than that it's a delight to play on. I must admit I play with a Madcatz MLG controller, but apart from the horrible DS3, the PS3 is my favorite console along with the GameCube.
@andrew20 @Artie Here's another gamer that won't be getting it! This is seriously ridiculous, there is a vita version and there's a translation: "let's NOT bring this to Vita, the very handheld that's owned almost exclusively by people who love J-RPGs".
I'll just stick to Bravely Second, which is like taking the worst stand ever since it's a Squeenix game....
@Gamer83 This is a bit off-topic, but I'm absolutely positive that Hellblade is taking so long because of Antoniades and his megalomaniac vision of how the game should be. When he was describing what the game will be I knew immediately it was bound to get delayed and when it sees the light of day it will be totally different from what he imagined, IF it ever sees the light of day that is. Antoniades is one of those people that surrounds him with "yes-men" and starts believing in his own delusional ideas, which is a shame because he is extremely talented. He is very much Ninja Theory's Molyneux and I think Molyneux could succeed back then because times were different and games were way cheaper to make, but now it's almost impossible for a small studio to deliver what Antoniades wants.
I do think a NT DMC 5 could be cool, because then they have to answer to Capcom. They'll be able to display some of their wild ideas and creativity, but when they push it Capcom will put em in place.
@Jake3103
They are indeed, it's just that awful Tameem Antoniades who makes every DMC fan hate them. What he did is the same as Messi disrespecting Johan Cruijff and calling him a has been; although Messi is a football God for the last 10 years, this doesn't mean Cruijff wasn't at some point. And I do hope that Capcom understands that 60fps is key, that's what you start working from and that's where you end with.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ninja Theory would helm this iteration of DMC because I'm getting the feeling their own game isn't really coming together. They might put that on hold and start working on DmC instead. It's so hard for these smaller studios to create a new succesful IP these days, especially when you want to give it a triple A feel. Gamers hold on to sequels and starting a franchise for a smaller studio seems almost impossible in this climate, so NT could choose for the safety of a well established brand.
I'm really curious if people are still interested in DMC, I wonder how those remasters sold. Although Platinum Games is doing great, Bayonetta 2 sold way less than I've expected, even taking into account it's on the Wii U. I honestly think that if Bayonetta 2 launched in the days when DMC was most popular, fans would've bought a console just to play it, but I'm getting the feeling that that just isn't the case anymore; it's as if we shifted from DMC to Souls in terms of hardcore fans.
@MadAussieBloke
You know what, I actually wouldn't mind! I think releasing games in episodes is a really smart way to get a game out and to keep the gamers interested and invested in it. The treshold of entering is also lowered so if a gamer doesn't like the first part, s/he nows the rest can be skipped. It would be better for developers as well and we would see less layoffs because there's work all year round, there will be a more evenly distributed cash flow and DLC and season passes would be history. Not every game will lend itself to an episodical release, but I certainly think DMC does.
@Jake3103 I have indeed played it and I gotta say I was impressed. I must admit I was one of those fools that didn't give it an honest chance the first time around and because of some performance issues I didn't acknowledge it as a true Devil May Cry. But on the PS4 this game really shines and when I played it like it was meant to be played, I had an excellent time. I still feel NT made some bad calls when it comes to the original, but having played both the DmC4 and DmC remaster I have to admit that DmC just holds up better.
It's as if I'm doing it on purpose, but I'm hooked on both Action Hank and Android Cactus. Broforce hasn't been booted up yet (and to know I know the musician who composed their music :S), yet the "losers" are eating up all my spare time... It's the "Plus Curse"
It's not too late to start marketing this as if you really care Sony. Not only will this game scratch that nostalgia itch, it'll also attract new kids to start playing Playstation (more). Especially with the movie out it seems like a no- brainer, yet everyone feels Sony will let this game drown because they have UC4 to worry about. Why would you give Nintendo the chance to regroup themselves and scoop up so many young gamers and their families, when with little to no extra effort you could be attracting those families yourselves?
@Feena I'm actually fairly positive there's a stand alone Gwent game in the making, focussing on mobile too. They have been hiring people with experience in the field and it would make too much sense not to. Even Plants v Zombies is getting a card game, so I can imagine CDPR wanting to get in it too. They already have the game, it would be easy money, easy money they can put in their huge other projects. Since they're upscaling again (up to 800 people directly involved with their games at times, so that's without external contractors) they can use all the money, so give us the game we want and stop making me load that other nonsense you've build around it CDPR!
Overall industry sales aren't looking particulary good, this isn't the first month we see sales slipping year over year. A friend of mine had an explanation for it last December I believe and he blamed the lower attach rate of (American) Playstation owners when compared to Xbox owners. At that time that sounded somewhat plausible, less people could enjoy Halo 5, Forza 6 and Tomb Raider as compared to in the more succesful 360 era, whereas 360 games go downhill quickly, but it can't account for months like these. If his theory would indeed be true, that would mean that either the 360 owners that jumped shipped buy less games now, or lots of 360 owners are waiting to purchase a new console and just the PS3 owners upgraded, which seems highly unlikely.
It's a slightly worrying little detail in a month where PS won again gracefully and to be honest it's getting a bit awkward now. If you look at Xbox One's last half of 2015, with all their marketing, their BC, their exclusives, the Elite controller and the new UI (which I hate btw), you would've expect them to have gained some goodwill in their largest market, their home market.... The opposite seems to be the case. Playstation did such an excellent job weathering Xbox' exclusives "storm", that in the end it wasn't more than a gust of wind and now it's clearly Sony's move in 2016 with the upcoming PS VR and exciting line up, I can't see PS4s dominance ending soon.
I believe we might see a Xbox Two sooner than we would've expected 2 years ago, or some MS Steam Machine like contraption for that matters, because I think just like Nintendo they need a full reset to stop this juggernaut.
@get2sammyb
No surprise? Really? They've had some of their most popular AC games out when the PS360 were on the market for far longer than the PS4 and One are now. Black Flag even launched on 2 generations of consoles and PC.
I totally expected it to beat Watchdogs as their best selling new IP, which in itself means Ubi is making quite some money on this endeavor, but best selling game, period? Never! Now I come to think of it: is pre-ordering these days more popular as it was back then? I distinctly remember never pre ordering anything up until the very last year of the PS3, but we have so many promotions these days that I'd be foolish not to (Hey, wait a minute!! That's how they get me! ).
I decided to skip The Division and not fall for the initial hype for once. I really enjoy the setting and the world looks gorgeous, in a creepy, post apocalyptic way at least, but I want to know more about how the game is structured first before I invest my time; can I be the tough lone wolf that I am or do I need others? Are the missions meaty enough story wise or is it another Destiny? How are the RPG elements incorporated? How is the end game? Especially the last bit is somewhat of a concern because I already heard from 2 friends that they are max level and have seen the end (for now).
@Johnnycide The real problem with twin-stick shooters and schmups we're seeing so often now is that so little of them get it right. Look, if you give me Alienation or Dariusburst with Plus, I'm gonna be the happiest gamer that month because those are games from devs who simply know what they are doing. Unfortunately it isn't so easy as it looks to make a good twin stick shooter and especially a 10 v 10 multiplayer game is insane like you pointed out. Funny you mention Secret Ponchos, cause that was the first game I thought about when I saw Dead Star's trailer... I mean come on, Dead Star, really? They even couldn't come up with a name that sounds original.
Nice for the relatives of the developers who pre ordered though. Although I can totally imagine one of the dev's moms saying to her son: "I'm sorry Billy, I can only spend my money once and I had my eyes set on Salt and Sanctuary already"
This sounds so made up with all of those awfully generic sounding names, that it could indeed be Activision's line-up. But it looks more like someone being sarcastic honestly.
@get2sammyb "I do think this will hopefully have a decent tail, too. I can honestly see them launching a free-to-play version in a year or so."
I've already said they would most certainly go f2p and although they did hope for more succes out of the gate, going f2p was Capcom's plan all along. I have it on good authority that they initially planned a roll out much like Killer Instinct has, which makes sense given their planned monthly updates, but somewhere along the way they figured: "why go f2p right away, when we can let the fools/ fans pay $60 upfront and have a year worth of season passes?". They'll easily make more this way and after 2 years (first comes the inevitable $60 Complete Edition with $40 season 2 pass) they'll go f2p when the PS4 has sold 65 - 75 million with the excuse that they "want to open up the game for all". They'll give the fools/ fans some costumes and a free Blanka which nobody wants while Ono explains it in a video while waving his stupid doll and smiling: "everyone free Blanka yeah?! We no charge you money, cause we good peoples... but we could! We could sell you, no?!"* and everyone will be upset for 2 weeks but will realize soon enough that Ono has got our cojones in a tight grip.
*my apologies for this one. I wish I could say it was uncalled for though.

Re: Rumour: Call of Duty May Be Flying to the Moon
Re: Evidence for Supercharged PS4.5 Console Mounts
@rjejr
Re: Evidence for Supercharged PS4.5 Console Mounts
@get2sammyb

Re: Sony: PlayStation VR Sales Estimates Were Too Small

Re: Street Fighter V's Mega March Update Is Finally Happening
Re: Sony Announces Studio Dedicated to Making Mobile Games
Why spend 80 million on a triple A game with the risk of never making it back, when for that kinda money you can have an excellent new mobile game on iOS and Play Store every week for 2 years straight??
Re: Soapbox: Evolution Studios Had Miserable Luck But Will Be Greatly Missed
Re: Sony Really Is Making a 4K Compatible Superpowered PS4, Sources Say
We all win!
Re: PS4, Xbox One Sales Outpacing Predecessors in the UK
@JoeBlogs
Re: PS4, Xbox One Sales Outpacing Predecessors in the UK

Re: Sony Won't Force You to Pre-Order the PlayStation VR Launch Bundle After All
@JaxonH

Re: Rumour: Sony's Building a Supercharged PS4 Console
@SonyInfinity
Re: Rumour: Sony's Building a Supercharged PS4 Console
@SonyInfinity
Those SNES games aren't 3ds' meat and potatoes and it's exactly stuff like that that should come as a lil extra for people that upgrade or buy the better version right away.
Re: Rumour: Sony's Building a Supercharged PS4 Console
@SonyInfinity
Re: Rumour: Sony's Building a Supercharged PS4 Console
Re: PlayStation VR's US Pre-Order Bundle Costs More Than $399
What a MS move of them!
Re: Review: Salt and Sanctuary (PS4)
Re: Pre-Order Your PlayStation VR Headset Right Now
I already ordered 2 last night at different retailers so I won't miss out. This is the kinda excitement that I wanted to feel when the PS4 launched but wasn't quite there and I can't wait till it's October. I saw Sammy commenting earlier that gaming in general has become a little stale for him and I've felt exactly the same the last couple of years, finally VR is here to change that!
Re: Star Wars Battlefront VR Experience Coming Exclusively to PlayStation VR
@SKC_Diamond @WARDIE
As long as your seated you'll be fine, which immediately makes me realize there is a good chance it'll be a VR take on the Squadron Fighter bit. How awesome would that be?? Or how about operating an AT-AT?? You could probably even build that into the regular multiplayer, where the VR people man the vehicles and the paupers have to travel on foot
Re: Star Wars Battlefront VR Experience Coming Exclusively to PlayStation VR
@SKC_Diamond
Re: Sony to Xbox: We've Been Doing Cross-Platform Play Since 2002
I don't know if I could hear my friends on Xbox over my PS VR anyway, so who gives a Hololens?
MS surely is back on their PR feet btw after the Xbox launch debacle; thinking back I still have no clue how they could've let that happen. They have been so smart lately with their BC, Phil Spencer loving everything and everyone, their line up which was pretty impressive, a real gamer's controller and now this...they can spin the most basal things into something huge, but they can never make up for that incredible slip up it seems.
Re: PlayStation VR Worlds Fuses Five Unique Virtual Reality Experiences Exclusively on PS4
@finalstan
They'd be foolish not to!
Re: PlayStation VR Can Act as a Screen for All of Your PS4 Games
Not an incredible feature?? I've been saying this for months now, but this is huge!! All those nay-sayers that don't want gaming to change wouldn't believe me when I said that even for them it'll offer great value by giving us our own private home theatre! It'll project a virtual screen that only rappers have in their homes, so when the missus is watching her shows, this player's gonna shoot some s*ckers in their *ss while enjoying a 110" screen on his VR bad boy.
Re: You'll Need to Supply Your Own PlayStation Camera for VR
Haha, I bought a sh*tload of move controllers for next to nothing the other day because I was anticipating this. I also bought about 40 of those Duracell charging stations, which will come in really handy now. I'd suggest you stuck up now, cause prices will certainly skyrocket once the release date approaches.
Re: PlayStation VR Launches in October for $399
PSVR, PSVR, PSVR!!
Re: Store Update: 15th March 2016 (Europe)
Salt and Samctuary! Finally! Boy oh boy, can't wait to play it. For people who don't know it, please check it out on YT or watch the trailer. And when you're not sure whether you want to buy it, just remember it's just a husband and his wife who made the entire game; isn't that the cutest thing you've ever heard! In an idustry so vile and corrupt, these 2 managed to bring us such a wonderful game.... They would've gotten my money just for trying!
Re: Guide: Will Sony's PlayStation VR Press Event at GDC 2016 Be Livestreamed?
I've given it some thought, but I decided I want to share this magical moment on PushSquare first; today history will be written.... If it's indeed unveiled
I think PS VR will be $79.95 with just PlayRoom VR and $99.95 with 2 move controllers and 2 games extra.
Re: This Isn't the Dynasty Warriors Announcement You Were Expecting
"We almost unleashed our musou attack when we heard that there was some big Dynasty Warriors news"
"The whole thing sounds like a good fit to us"
'We' Robert? 'Us'? Come on now, who are you kidding?
Re: Traditional Japanese RPG I Am Setsuna Is Heading West on PS4
@Feena
Indeed! Those titles just feel like Vita titles to me; getting comfortable on the sofa or in my bed and just play the way I want it. Playing on a handheld is just more relaxed and it's ideal for smaller games and RPGs because of the very nature of these games.
Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pops Out of the Sewers This May on PS4, PS3
@rjejr
About a year ago a friend of mine wanted to borrow my PS4, he torn some ligaments in his knee so he had plenty of time to game.
Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pops Out of the Sewers This May on PS4, PS3
@rjejr
I find myself playing PS3 games more and more often lately, I even play games on it I also own on PS4 like Resogun and Helldivers. The store is ridiculous, just like downloading and installing is, but other than that it's a delight to play on. I must admit I play with a Madcatz MLG controller, but apart from the horrible DS3, the PS3 is my favorite console along with the GameCube.
Re: Traditional Japanese RPG I Am Setsuna Is Heading West on PS4
@andrew20 @Artie
Here's another gamer that won't be getting it!
Re: Rumour: Capcom's About to Pull the Trigger on Devil May Cry 5
@Gamer83
This is a bit off-topic, but I'm absolutely positive that Hellblade is taking so long because of Antoniades and his megalomaniac vision of how the game should be.
Re: Rumour: Capcom's About to Pull the Trigger on Devil May Cry 5
@Jake3103
@MadAussieBloke
Re: Rumour: Capcom's About to Pull the Trigger on Devil May Cry 5
@Jake3103
I have indeed played it and I gotta say I was impressed.
Re: Rumour: Capcom's About to Pull the Trigger on Devil May Cry 5
Hyyyyyypppppeeeeeee!!!!! This generation needs a good Devil May Cry sooo bad!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 109
It's as if I'm doing it on purpose, but I'm hooked on both Action Hank and Android Cactus. Broforce hasn't been booted up yet (and to know I know the musician who composed their music :S), yet the "losers" are eating up all my spare time... It's the "Plus Curse"
Re: Ratchet & Clank Looks Like a Pixar Movie Brought to Life on PS4
It's not too late to start marketing this as if you really care Sony. Not only will this game scratch that nostalgia itch, it'll also attract new kids to start playing Playstation (more). Especially with the movie out it seems like a no- brainer, yet everyone feels Sony will let this game drown because they have UC4 to worry about. Why would you give Nintendo the chance to regroup themselves and scoop up so many young gamers and their families, when with little to no extra effort you could be attracting those families yourselves?
Re: Review: Samurai Warriors 4: Empires (PS4)
Ah, Robert has found him yet another game of the month contender!
Re: The Witcher 3 Developer May Release An Unannounced Game This Year
@Feena
I'm actually fairly positive there's a stand alone Gwent game in the making, focussing on mobile too.
Re: February 2016 NPD: PS4 Extends Its Lead as US Sales Shrink
Re: The Division Is Ubisoft's Fastest Selling Game of All Time
@get2sammyb
Edit: gonna read your article now
Re: One of Your Free April PlayStation Plus Games Has Already Been Revealed
Re: Rumour: The Next Call of Duty May Be Called Bloodlines
This sounds so made up with all of those awfully generic sounding names, that it could indeed be Activision's line-up. But it looks more like someone being sarcastic honestly.
Re: Street Fighter V Seems to Have Flopped Pretty Freakin' Hard
@get2sammyb
"I do think this will hopefully have a decent tail, too.
