This actually feels like a same sort of side step from Dark Souls as Bloodborne was, only From didn't cook this one up. The way the characters move, the animation priority and even the sounds just breathe Souls. I really like the setting and the "beast spirits" that help you in combat are an excellent idea as well and to be honest I'll take a stolen but well excetuxed concept over a flawed original idea every time. But who's to say it's stolen: they have been officially been working on it for 10 years now!
I'm gonna play DS3, but I'm not too sure if I'll actually still like it as much as I want to like it. DS2 didn't do it for me and Boodborne was great, but it just isn't a Souls game (which is neither good or bad, it's its own entity), so I hoped to see a return of form but footage makes me believe it's too much of a mix between DS and BB. So if Nioh breathes new life into the genre by giving us a totally new setting without me constantly thinking about what the game isn't, instead of what it is, it might end up being my personal favorite for 2016 (2016 indeed, some wishful thinking there ).
Sounds all too familiar this. I touched upon this subject more than once and somewhere around the time when I was playing MGSV and I caught myself worrying about how I would find the time to play Halo, Forza 6, Fallout, Tomb Raider, CoD, Destiny, Xenoblade CX and some other games I hadn't finished or I'm forgetting now, I realized I had a problem; gaming was suffocating me!
I don't know when it exactly happened, but I guess I started seeing gaming more as a chore in the PS3 era. It was in that era that my job required me to live away from home several months a year and instead of spending all my spare time and money on partying, prostitutes and drugs while my wife and kids where waiting for me back home, I started to excessively game to kill time. I always used to game, but not as much as I do when I'm away from home. But maybe the bigger mistake I made is that I stopped playing Nintendo games because I didn't like the Wii. Games have become more and more time consuming and we're now at a point where we even expect CoD to have a 10+ hour campaign and because of all the trophies there always a reason to play games just a bit longer. I forgot how beautiful games could be the way Nintendo still makes them; they offer you intense fun for just a 15 minute round, but you can also play for 6 hours straight and have a wonderful time. And not only that, but in Nintendo games you set your own goals, you create your own challenges, instead of a sadistic game dev who makes you play the same thing 5 times before you get your "seen enough?" Silver trophy.
I bought myself a Wii U and realized what I was doing wrong and for about a year and a half or so I was doing way better. But as the games on the Wii U dried up and excellent games on the PS4 and One were coming, I fell back into old habits: I started pre ordering everything because somehow in Holland that is cheaper than just buying it day one (whereas in SA I never pre order anything) and I would get a new game before I even started the one I got 2 weeks earlier. So there I was, playing MGSV, a game I enjoyed thoroughly but that relied on a (satisfying) gameplay loop that I've already experienced enough of at that point and I realized I was doing it all wrong: I somehow made the mistake of letting gaming become a chore, again.
I immediately popped out the disc and played some Rocket League instead and I decided just to play games till I had my fill. I canceled Fallout 4 because it seemed more of the same and I decided to go for Halo, Tomb Raider and Xenoblade instead. I bought Destiny and after 4 hours of playing I immediately realized that it just wasn't doing it for me and I stopped so Halo could give me my scifi shooter fix. I bought Forza, a game that I always play religiously unless there is a GT out which I still prefer, and I just raced when I felt like it; no more 4 hour challenges or grinding to get the car I want. No more expensive DLC to extend a game that already has 200+ hours of gameplay in it. This new approach to gaming means I'm missing out on a lot, for weeks I couldn't talk to my brother without him going crazy bout fallout, but now the dust has settled Fallout has been long forgotten and he's already talking games that are yet to come out, while he's playing Bravely Second, a game I know he doesn't like... Ha, what a fool he is, I'll never let that happen to me ever again! ..... I think....
Excellent idea! In the past consoles were some real next level sh*t with components that wouldn't be available for years to come and where hardware manufacturers lost bucket loads of money on, this gen however we got a midrange PC which was pretty neat at the time, but is hilariously outdated at this moment. Do we really want this gen to last 8 years? Didn't we get our money's worth already, it was just $399?
A modular console would be my ultimate dream, and NO that's not the same as a PC: with a modular console you get pre determined easy to swap parts. But I don't think the world is ready for a modular console yet. Then why don't we just introduce a "PS4 +" this E3 which will launch 3 years after the normal PS4, an Elite PS4 that will play all PS4 games but at a higher resolution, with better AA and most importantly with a steady 60 fps. If I could pay $399 for a console that is on par with mid range PCs again I'd do it right away.
With the New 3DS I saw that giving people that option is truly great; I replayed a big part of my library because all of a sudden the 3D was working and with the faster processor loading times got way better. If I had a PS4+ I would immediately restart Bloodborne and play the game like it's meant to be played. Think about the Witcher which will run smooth, games like Unity that finally have the processing power it needed and all the games that will patch in advanced options to fiddle a bit with the settings, but not too much; if you don't want to, the game should automatically detect your hardware and select the best option.
Most publishers won't release games that are tailor made for the newer model because they don't want to leave out a big part of the userbase, but I can see 2k with Rockstar do something like that because they can make people go out and buy a newer model; sure you can play RDR2 or GTAVI on the old model, but expect framedrops and low settings, but if you upgrade you'll get exactly what Rockstar wants you to get.
Every other year we get ourselves a new $800 phone and tablet, we spend $200 a year on average on our gaming PCs and then after 4 or 5 years we just buy a new one all together for $1600, yet we want our $399 consoles to last us 8 - 10 years. And even if you don't need better performance, why don't you want others to enjoy it? Backwards compatibility and digital game ownership is so freaking important, yet people are focused on a $399 piece of hardware. If the generation that went on far to long is over, you can repurchase all the games you already owned again because these stupid machines aren't BC; how can anyone not like a future where it doens't matter if I'm on my PS4+, my PS4++ or PS5 but where I still can play all the games I bought on my PS4 10 years back?
I hope it features cross- buy and -save, but it seems these bigger games never have it. I understand that they can't give the $60 PS4 game when you buy the $40 Vita game, but the other way around would make total sense. It would ultimately probably make them even more money, cause lots of Vita lovers like myself would go for the more expensive option that way instead of sticking to just the Vita game.
I really liked the Beta, but I realized right away that I can't spend as much time on the game as it needs me to, so I'll wait for season 2; by that time the experience will be smoother and the total package will be more affordable.... Unless there are so much games to play as I have now, then I'll have to miss out on what seems to be a very pleasant game.
@get2sammyb I never experienced any problems till PT; I played it the moment it was available in dark room that was only lit by the screen and with my headset on... It somehow changed something in me. I'm a grown ass man, but I can't take horror anymore because I'm afraid PT will happen again, that litteraly was the most horrifying gaming experience in my life and I can't recall ever being that unsettled by a movie either. PT was a true gem, but for the first time in my life I was so sucked into a game that I believed it was me walking that corridor.
So VR is totally out of the question because if PT would've been a VR experience, I would've either smashed a $399 - $599 piece of hardware against the wall, or died right there on the spot.
Scr*w this! I stopped watching after the first jumpscare, and I flipping knew it was coming too! Can you imagine these sort of things in VR?? I think people, including myself, will have actual heart attacks.
@BAMozzy For me it feels exactly the same as what I have now with Street Fighter: I know the content we're getting is way too little, there aren't enough modes to keep casual players busy and the 'earnings model' isn't gamer friendly... But mechanically the game is so sound that I can't stop playing. Titanfall had exactly the same, with its free running that is yet to be matched, the maps that were custom made for the fine gameplay and the Titans that alter the pace of the game dramatically so there's so much to experience within a single match; I love it!
I'm not big on multiplayer shooters and I considered TF to be all hype and no game... I couldn't be more wrong. Titanfall is easily the best shooter of this decade and although their exclusivity and pricing model wasn't very smart, mechanically there is no better shooter than Titanfall for me. The whole grunts running around thing was a stroke of genius on their part and since then every CoD felt like a very cheap ripoff, even Blops3 which I like a lot. Titanfall is like crack cocaine in game form and I can't wait for part 2!
I'm glad my father isn't like Sony; my brother that was born 2 years after me would've been getting all the praise, all the presents and all the attention, whereas my youngest brother and I would probably have been thrown off of a cliff right after birth, Spartan style.
Don't you cry PS TV, my little ugly duckling, I still love you...
@MadAussieBloke It's not finished yet. Besides, we already know it's not the Shenmue most of us waited for; instead of giving us a proper ending he sees a business opportunity to make 'another' trilogy out of it so 3 will just be filler. I hope the gameplay is fun, else we're totally screwed.
I hope when it launches you'll be able to say "I told you so" to all nay sayers, but I must admit I'm afraid it'll be those critics that are right.
@BAMozzy They'll pull a Dark Knight where Sully visits Rome and sees Drake, who he and everyone else thought died 6 years ago, sitting at a local cafe drinking an espresso with Elena on his side. Their eyes meet and Drake kindly nods, then all of a sudden Drake's attacked.... By his 4 y.o. son who's playing "superheroes" with a Voodoo doll he and Sully found on their last adventure together and that was gone missing alongside Drake which contained $50 million worth of diamonds.
Where's the part that says PushSquare makes money if we click on the links and/ or order one of these units? If it's mentioned, and we also learn that these products are provided by the manufacturer, than I can completely trust the reviewer to be independent, or decide not to, when it's not mentioned I always have this feeling people have something to hide.
Don't make this look like a shady practice when it in fact isn't, or at least not more than with all other sites that do exactly the same. You guys got bills to pay as well, there's no shame in that; your audience is mature enough to understand how these things work.
"Welcome to BF5, where in an alternative timeline earth was invaded by humanoid looking aliens, the Zubark, in 1896. WWI never took place because of the Aliens' tight grip on humanity and it wasn't until 1988 till a group of underground trained Latinos in Miami called 'The Liberados', declared war on all non- human lifeforms. Before the Zubark knew it all over the world skilled and armed men and women (!) who were living in sewers and metro stations rose up to defeat them, with their own highly sophisticated alien weapons and technology. No more silly guns this time folks, it's evaporator and laser time!"
I feel this is all part of something bigger. Although Sony has been selling PS4 like hotcakes, they haven't really been listening to their customers as of late. So they just go straight ahead and won't alter their course because a boat this big won't sink because of some iceberg far in the distance.
Sony has become arrogant again and they need to be put in their place. Unfortunately the games industry is one of the few where people go out and buy something and don't expect to be satisfied; if a game doesn't work they'll call it a "service" and tell others not to whine, when first party games you expected aren't there you are told that they need more time and give a random Miyamoto quote and again tell everyone to stop whining and when you expect controllers not to break, consoles not to sound like lawnmowers and ask for a company to treat you with respect, fanboys and fanboy media tell you you're a self entitled P for asking value for money.
But it's going on too long now and the overall satisfaction is getting lower, so people don't care about that stupid console war no more and also want an Elite controller, backwards compatibility and free online gaming (last 2 I'm talking Wii U). Sony isn't listening to what fans really want, yet they charge money for a service that pretty much makes you host online games if you have a decent connection. To "compensate" for the lack of real online service they give "freebies", which are in fact "paybees", which no one really likes; sure Galak-Z is cool and all, but I rather play some other games...none of which are first party exclusives btw.
So Sony, step up your game! You expect us to bend over and pay $50 a year for a service that adds nothing compared to when it was free... So at least be gentle.
@rjejr I want to like it because the setting is so intriguing. But I saw early gameplay footage and the game had a real 'Bound by Flame' feel to it. It ran almost the same as BbF with reused assets and animations but instead of swordplay I remember the character had more Infamous like attacks at his disposal.
But I'll definitely keep an eye on it; I like these smaller studios that aren't afraid to try and make a game that has triple A potential. Ultimately they lack the skills and mostly budget of let's say CD PR, but they still aim for the same type of game with comparable quality. Failing gracefully is so much better than not trying at all and with the benefit gone of having a launch window game, I hope they've managed to rise up to the challenge and give us the game they envisioned when they started developing.
@Neolit My point exactly! I've been saying for months now that looks most certainly matter. Where Oculus and HTC bring enhanced ski goggles on the market, Sony is giving us a piece of tech that could've come straight out of Star Trek. There's one other big plus: the immersion isn't as great as with the other 2. Is that a plus I hear people say? Yes it is is! The first few years people will feel uncomfortable "trapped in VR" or want to multitask and visit the actual world regularly while playing, Sony's wonderful design has got you covered! By design you can easily get out of the experience, where the oculus demands you to take those God awful goggles off.
VR isn't even about who's cheapest, although that is a huge factor, but accesibility is far more important. And I don't even mean accesibility in a way that there are more ps4s than VR ready PCs, I mean that the kit itself shouldn't scare people away. People who are less tech savvy should want to put it on if the see it instead of being forced to.
I still wonder why people are so outraged over the price of VR: I remember back in the days that spending the equivalent of $2000 on a TV wasn't a big deal, and although we have cheaper options now we mostly still spend more than $1000. New and exciting tech just comes at a price and if these companies start telling consumers it isn't all about gaming, but show everyone it's about watching movies, sports and concerts, about traveling, skypecalls and most importantly porn, then people will understand why they want to cough up the money for it.
@AlexStinton
While playing Far Cry Primal, wasn't there a moment that you thought about Michel Ancel's Wild and that he maybe shouldn't have pitched it to Ubisoft? I mean, so many things we saw and loved from Wild are directly coming back in Primal. I haven't seen any reviewer comment on this so far, but the similarities are pretty obvious; not only do they have the animal riding shtick, they also have the bird scouting ahead. Wild takes place a little later, but not noticeably when you look at the setting and actions. Wild is also about taking over other tribes in the footage we saw and Primal totally takes the novelty out of that game.
@Johnnycide I think there's a good chance Action Henk came in second because of people who also played the game on steam and know how good it actually is. We had multiple games like Broforce and we just had Helldivers, so Action Henk should've made the cut imo because it brings something different to the table. It does require skill btw and is extremely fun to play with others... I hope the discounted price won't be too high so people can still enjoy it.
Looking at it, playing it, the same question as with the Wii U always pops up in my mind: "why on earth isn't this a smash hit around the world?". I honestly don't unsterstand how they managed to fudge up so bad with a handheld this gorgeous and why not everyone has or wants one. The remote play feature is criminally underused as well and all the "indies" gamers always whine about when they get them with PS+ are a delight to play on your Vita. Then there are tons of old PSone games and (J-)RPGs that make way more sense playing them on the Vita. Actually the only thing where the Vita isn't really good at is the very thing they promised: giving a flashy and bombastic console experience.
The worst part of it all is that we're never gonna see a Vita 2 with an R1 and R2.
@Grawlog
Wasn't there an Easter egg in one of those ME trailers? One that could imply we'd get a remaster of the trilogy first. It'll have to come soon then, cause Andromeda is coming within a year if everything goes as planned.
OT: Although I don't like remasters on principle, I keep on buying and enjoying them Especially collections offer so much value for money. This year we have a Twilight Princess and Valkyria Chronicles remaster I'm looking forward too and some of the best games this gen are in fact remasters. Today while playing SFV my kids wanted to play SF too, so I booted up the PS3 again for them to play USFIV and boy do I love that console. I still play on it regularly and I just wish I felt the same about my PS4; with the PSone, PS2 and PS3 it was love on first sight, the PS4 is more like an arranged marriage where I have to learn how to love it.
The PS4 brought me some fine games so far and when I'm using the PS3 I sometimes go mad when I visit the store and such, but judging on all the remasters or the happiness when BC was announced on the One I have the feeling I'm not the only one who is mentally still stuck in the PS360 era.
Adrift on the PS4 for $15? Meh, I'll wait till it's $5.
Adrift on PS VR for $60? Insta-buy!
That's the power of VR, it can take a normal game and make it into an "experience". It'll take at least another 30 years before I'm actually floating in space myself, but till that time it'll be so awesome to float around in this game. VR will change walking, racing, flying and floating sims forever!
I'm playing SFV and I won't stop until till my fingers are bleeding. It's a shame the game is so light on content and so focused on such a small part of their userbase, cause the actual gameplay is divine.... I can't stop playing. Last night was the first time I really had a few hours straight without disconnects and I was even smiling when I got raped really bad... I even think I might have played Justin Wong on Vega, but it could be an imposter... He was extremely skilled though!
@Gamer83
This is just Inafune all over again, where an artist, a creator, gets more power in a company than is good for him. The days of rockstar devs are over and although it sometimes is a shame because they were funny, the total disregard for their audience's demands is something we can do without.
Ono has been too involved with the creation of the game to see its flaws and people like this forget it's not the pros that make them their money, it's the casual Street Fighter enthusiast. Ono needs Sony to keep him in check at this point just like how Nintendo is constraining Sakurai for example; at the end everyone wins.
Yesterday I read the comparison between SSB and SFV and I couldn't help but laugh. Sure there is DLC in SSB, but not only does the DLC kick ass, the base game we paid $60 for was one of the most chock full, most perfect gaming experiences I've ever had in my life. In terms of content SSB is almost unparalleled and if SFV had that much to offer I would've gladly paid an extra $30 a year for additional content.
I hoped for a KI model, where everyone would be able to play it for free and with a really fair asking price to join every new "season". Over the course of 5 years that still would've netted SFV an insane amount of money because I'm absolutely positive that when you play the game for free 3 rounds, you immediately start throwing your money at the screen. I spoke to several regional Capcom's employees when SFV was first announced and all of them told me this game was gonna be "inclusive", which at the time I found hilarious because they ditched the Xbox. But they assured me that everyone with a PS4 would be able to play the game. So they either changed course, or they are planning to roll out a "seasonal" F2P model after they squeezed some money out of us the traditional way. If they go F2P now they're gonna tell us how happy we all should be: free SFV for everyone means more competition! Mark my words: Ono himself is gonna announce it within 2 years with a grin on his smug face.
@OrangeBagels
I have a similar problem where the arcade mode is nowhere to be found, must be some sort of a bug.
Now with the server problems "they couldn't anticipate" out of the way I wonder what's left for gamingsites to defend their reviewscores of 8s and 9s for a game this barebones. And if I hear Capcom Tour one more time I'm gonna lose it! As if the Capcom tour couldn't be postponed or just feature the game we have now, but unreleased, to make all the naturals stand out. I've been at a preview event like 6 months ago where I played a version that runs just as smooth gameplay wise as it does today, so the rushing for the Capcom Tour is a lame excuse.
What's really up is that they wanted to launch this Fiscal Year for several reasons and Capcom never gave crap about their consumers anyway. Street Fighter isn't just for Pros, it's always been the mainstream's darling and the go to fighter for everyone that started gaming in the 80s and 90s; launching without an arcade mode or any other single player content to speak of is just disrespectful to the millions of fans worldwide.
The game is so good from a mechanical point of view that I didn't even wanna complain, until Ono had the nerve to say on camera that they "could have sold us" the 1-2 hour story mode as DLC...what a Richard move. And the worst part is that the game's yet to show his true colors when the true value of the Fight Money reveals itself and people start realizing they aren't getting 6 additional characters, that are 100% already done and waiting for Capcom to flick a switch, for free.
So first they sell us half a game and tell us we'll get 'free' DLC, which is ofcourse BS considering we paid $60 upfront; the DLC we're getting for "free" was supposed to be in the game! Then they sell us a season pass, cause that's the only way to experience all fighters without investing 600 hours in the game. And to top it off they still have tons of microtransactions for cosmetic stuff
So we'll be spending at least $30 each "season" for years to come for all additional fighters, or settle for less and buy 1 with our Fight Money each year, after we bought a $60 game. But I'm willing to bet the farm that it doesn't end there. I'm positive that "complete editions" will hit the store shelves within 2 years, something they said they wouldn't, but what I truly think will happen is that Capcom will throw away this initial model and will go full f2p after 2 years, claiming its on popular demand.
Mechanically this is the best fighter I ever played, period. But the shaky servers, lack of content and most of all their business model leave a very bitter taste in my mouth. I hoped and expected a F2P model we see in Killer Instinct, instead we got this really shady Fight Money system and a $60 fee to participate in the first place.
I know people here won't like this comparison, but please forget on what console KI is available and hear me out. When Killer Instinct was announced I, like most others, frowned when I heard it was going F2P. F2P still has a very bad name and I just figured I would get more if I just paid $60 upfront. But after a year or so I started to see how excellent their approach actually is: there is no treshold for people to join because they can try it out for free, they can buy just one or 2 fighters if they never use any others or they can buy all at a very reasonable price. Ofcourse you can make it more expensive if you want to buy special costumes, but that's the beauty of the system: that way they make money of the people who are willing to spend it so people with little cash or little will to spend any can still play.
Now back to SFV: they first make sure that there is a huge treshold for participating by asking $60 for a game that has little content. They are telling very proud we'll get lots of "free DLC" in the months to come, which is absolute BS because that's what we paid the $60 for. People like myself who are true fans but have a job and kids will shell out the extra cash for the season pass because I am to much of a SF nut not to, and you can already bet your behind that next year this time we will be getting a "complete" or "GOTY" edition, which I know they said they wouldn't, but most certainly will. I wouldn't even be surprised if they go full F2P after the initial year or 2 to maximize profits even more.
Triple A development is expensive, but there are so many games out there in the exact same genre that give better value for money that this is a tough pill to swallow. It's not just KI, but Blazblue, Guilty Gear, SSB, MKX with its excellent story mode and the upcoming KoF with a starting roster of 50+ characters, they all offer so much more bang for your buck that you wonder if SFV is so good it can lean on gameplay alone.
I should be so happy that SFV is finally out, yet I can't enjoy it at all... And that has nothing to do with server problems.
@get2sammyb I think all the nay-sayers just need VR to be totally drawn in. I do wonder if it could be too scary with a game like this for example, but there's not one "walking simulator" that wouldn't benefit immensly from being VR compatible. This game presents another scare, another trick, another twist or turn almost every minute like you said, but I think that is necessary to maintain full immersion; the moment you look up, down or hear a car drive by you feel detached from fhe experience. With VR however the immersion is far more easy to realize which in turn gives devs the chance to introduce certain elements more sparsely so they can really work it out properly.
I think it was Yoshi who once said that VR is like "cheating" and although he's kinda right, I believe this means these walking sims are just taking their first babysteps because these are the most likely to get VR treatments. Not only will the experience benefit hugely, on a technical level it are these types of games that can be made "VR fit" before we can even think about other games; I'd actually argue that it makes sense for these games, but for more action packed titles I'm not so positive.
@Tasuki Is your Blops 3 multi player working like it should? Since the latest patch I'm experiencing lots of lag and this evening in particular the lagspikes make it unplayable.
That they've been hiring like crazy isn't really a point of strength, cause they had lots of skilled people leaving them. I wonder if it will indeed be a full fledged new MW, or a (probably MW2) remake like I heard through the grapevine on multiple occasions. That would make perfect sense because it would get lots of old fans who moved on to notice it again and it would explain why Black Ops 3 apparently has "season 2" DLC plans.
Overall I think it would make sense to pull an AC but still offer a full fledged remake: they'll still have their annual cash so they don't have to cancel the CEO's Christmas party where they swim in the company's pool filled with $100 bills and a semi- break would keep the brand fresh. Black Ops 3 has the content and gameplay to keep fans happy and they could bring a game of they year alongside the "season 2" DLC plans and launch the remake with all DLC which gamers will buy anyway.
Edit: said this last week, I'll say it again just because I think it's awesome value for money: CoD Blops3 is for sale on Amazon.co.uk for £20, WITH a free steelbook! (Make sure you'll select the right one)
Whether they sell a copy on the One or on the PC, it's all money made by MS and their gamedivsion. When you're not reigning supreme like the PS4 is, it's actually a pretty smart way to keep first and second party development viable at all. A game like Halo 5 for instance, I wonder if they actually made money out of that one, especially since they were selling the consoles at almost no profit. So the moment you manage to sell another million or 4, or in QBs case 800k - 1million, on another platform, I'd say go for it!
People who are whining now don't understand that in this industry they NEED to do this, or else MS is gonna pull the plug within 2 years. But it shows gamers at their best: one group is celebrating that their games are more exclusive than the other one's and the other ones have the crazy idea that when you spend $400 on a console, you get to have a say in the console manufacturer's business strategy for years to come. Get over yourselves!
@benrawr Are you Simon? So you actually exist then? I honestly thought it was just Ben talking to himself on the podcast for all these years. Or that maybe there is no Ben, but just Simon.
Or maybe both aren't real and it's just Sammy Barker and his many personalities running a site, making the best videos in the bizz, producing and starring in a podcast (twice) and selling shawarma to drunk people on some Newcastle streetcorner to make ends meet...
@belmont
They didn't want to make them compatible because of their licensing agreement with MadCatz I feel, a company that's doing really bad atm. Announcing compatibility would've killed the pre orders for sure, now there were probably lots of gamers who just went ahead and bought one because they were afraid they were gonna be left out. But in the end they couldn't have left the compatibility out, it's just adding a simple driver to the game and that's it. I for one would've stopped playing SF all together if they didn't add PS3 stick compatibility, although I understand business is business. They're already forcing me to play on PS4, I don't want them to make me buy another stick as well.
Madcatz' new sticks are so overpriced, I can't believe they have the guts to ask so much when there are cheaper alternatives. And now they're really screwed, cause buying a good 2nd hand TE SFIV fightstick for about $100 is also an option; you get the same quality stick for less than half the money!
@get2sammyb It might if they have let go of their own engine and switched to the savior of Japanese game development: Unreal Engine 4. With renewing this copyright they have the legal obligation to be planning a release and if the game is developed on UE4 that just might happen.
Japanese studios need to let go of the idea that they need an own engine, unless they have the money to support building one. It's better to get specialists aboard to make proper documentation for UE4 in Japanese (as far that's still necessary), get the right middleware and just develop away.
I won't bet the farm on this ever releasing either, but if they just release Dragons Dogma Online in the west I don't even need it anymore!
@Rudy_Manchego A kitten? Are you mad? Ever stared in the eyes of a cat longer than 5 seconds?? People are so blind these days: fight the demon with Lucifer himself...
Can't say I'm not disappointed by what I've read so far. Even in the better scoring reviews the same cons shine through as do here and for a game that I thought that would be the first walking sim I'd enjoy, that's a real shame. From earlier footage I've seen there was this feeling of impending doom caused by the setting and the loneliness that creeps up, but apparently they don't do anything with the great atmosphere that's been set.
I'll get it when it's on sale (and when/ if it's been patched)
Everyone fell immediately in love with Unravel's developer when he nervously tried to explain what his brainchild was all about.... I still don't get it. How can anyone have sympathy for a man who came up with a creation as demonic and scary as the red, woolly character starring this game? I won't even say its name out loud because I'm afraid of repercussions. Or maybe that developer didn't come up with it, maybe that demon invented that poor, poor guy! His hands were even branded with some evil ancient marks.
Has anyone even looked at it, I mean really stared into its evil soul? It haunts me in my dreams and the very thought of VR compatibility along the way makes me physically ill. That developer wasn't nervous to be on stage, no, he was afraid he and his family would get hurt if he didn't do exactly what that devil wants. Now we're letting pure evil into all of our homes and there's no stopping it. Just one advice: never leave the disc in at night...
@kyleforrester87
Wait! No! Hold it! That is most definitely not THE generic space marine, we all know there's one Space Marine out there that's even more genericerer!!
@Anchorsam_9
I'm afraid they'd already won the fight before we even realized it started and when I look at the industry today, and mostly to the consumers, there's no hope.
This might sound a bit far fetched, but although we as core gamers hated the Wii, it was a blessing in disguise: the mainstream audience was buying $60 games with $30 of content so big publishers made enough profit to keep the prices down. When the fad died down they came with Network Passes (remember those?) and DLC, but we as hardcore gamers weren't buying it, figuratively and literally. The Network Passes died an early dead and DLC was frowned upon and all was good.
Then this new gen came around and all the people who had once played the Wii and remembered the fun mostly Nintendo games gave them needed something new. So they and the hardcore PS360 gamer went out to buy (mainly) PS4s in droves and the PS4 is just as much part of the Zeitgeist as the Wii was last gen. So out of the current 55- 60 million people with a current gen system, there are so many mainstream gamers, or gamers who didn't have a lot of money in the PS360 era but do now, that we're doomed. You can see it in the little things like Collector's Editions, where people almost bash each other's heads in to pay $200 for a game, season pass and a mini fridge, but also how DLC is becoming more and more accepted as a way to make money. Remember: lots of these people were once in high school and didn't have any money to spend or spent $60 on a game that was fun for 2 hours which they never touched afterwards. The perceived value of those customers is completely different of those who have been playing for 20+ years.
I do think however that we should try and find a more sustainable model, without totally disrespecting the player like with DLC, or the creator with a chock full $60 game.
@Anchorsam_9 Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree with you! I do think however that in the end we are holding on to a time that seems to be long gone and that DLC like TW's are more of an exception than the rule.
"...especially with the money Activision's making..." That shouldn't really matter though. DLC always has the problem of adding too little when compared to the full $60 game, the reason I think prices should be reconsidered, but I'm getting the overall feeling that when you don't compare it to freakevents like the TW DLC, but to other shooter DLC, you're getting quite the bang for your buck.
In the end it doesn't really matter as long as the people buying it are satisfied, but I do feel this year's CoD is offering way more value for money than we've come to expect from any shooter. I know Halo also has tons of content, but that serves the purpose of getting sales for a console up, CoD's is to make money.

Re: PS4 Exclusive Nioh's Looking Sharp in New Gameplay
Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Treat Gaming Like a Chore?
Ha, what a fool he is, I'll never let that happen to me ever again! ..... I think....
Re: Talking Point: Would You Upgrade to a Supercharged PS4?
Re: Expect Plenty of God Eater: Resurrection and Rage Burst News Leading Up to Release
Re: You Won't Be Reading Any The Division Reviews on Launch Day
I really liked the Beta, but I realized right away that I can't spend as much time on the game as it needs me to, so I'll wait for season 2; by that time the experience will be smoother and the total package will be more affordable.... Unless there are so much games to play as I have now, then I'll have to miss out on what seems to be a very pleasant game.
Re: PS4 Continues to Smash Sales Records

Re: Weirdness: Someone Turned the Silent Hills Sampler into a Short Movie
@get2sammyb
I never experienced any problems till PT; I played it the moment it was available in dark room that was only lit by the screen and with my headset on...
Re: Weirdness: Someone Turned the Silent Hills Sampler into a Short Movie
Scr*w this! I stopped watching after the first jumpscare, and I flipping knew it was coming too! Can you imagine these sort of things in VR?? I think people, including myself, will have actual heart attacks.

Re: Titanfall 2 Is Starting to Pop Up in Shops
@BAMozzy
For me it feels exactly the same as what I have now with Street Fighter: I know the content we're getting is way too little, there aren't enough modes to keep casual players busy and the 'earnings model' isn't gamer friendly... But mechanically the game is so sound that I can't stop playing. Titanfall had exactly the same, with its free running that is yet to be matched, the maps that were custom made for the fine gameplay and the Titans that alter the pace of the game dramatically so there's so much to experience within a single match; I love it!
Re: Titanfall 2 Is Starting to Pop Up in Shops
I'm not big on multiplayer shooters and I considered TF to be all hype and no game... I couldn't be more wrong. Titanfall is easily the best shooter of this decade and although their exclusivity and pricing model wasn't very smart, mechanically there is no better shooter than Titanfall for me. The whole grunts running around thing was a stroke of genius on their part and since then every CoD felt like a very cheap ripoff, even Blops3 which I like a lot. Titanfall is like crack cocaine in game form and I can't wait for part 2!

Re: Sony Switches Off PlayStation TV Shipments in Japan
I'm glad my father isn't like Sony; my brother that was born 2 years after me would've been getting all the praise, all the presents and all the attention, whereas my youngest brother and I would probably have been thrown off of a cliff right after birth, Spartan style.
Don't you cry PS TV, my little ugly duckling, I still love you...
Re: Shenmue III Sizzles in Scintillating New PS4 Screenshots
@MadAussieBloke It's not finished yet. Besides, we already know it's not the Shenmue most of us waited for; instead of giving us a proper ending he sees a business opportunity to make 'another' trilogy out of it so 3 will just be filler. I hope the gameplay is fun, else we're totally screwed.
I hope when it launches you'll be able to say "I told you so" to all nay sayers, but I must admit I'm afraid it'll be those critics that are right.
Re: Naughty Dog Started Uncharted 4's Story Again
@BAMozzy They'll pull a Dark Knight where Sully visits Rome and sees Drake, who he and everyone else thought died 6 years ago, sitting at a local cafe drinking an espresso with Elena on his side. Their eyes meet and Drake kindly nods, then all of a sudden Drake's attacked.... By his 4 y.o. son who's playing "superheroes" with a Voodoo doll he and Sully found on their last adventure together and that was gone missing alongside Drake which contained $50 million worth of diamonds.
Re: Hardware Review: How to Extend Your PS4 Controller's Battery Life
Where's the part that says PushSquare makes money if we click on the links and/ or order one of these units? If it's mentioned, and we also learn that these products are provided by the manufacturer, than I can completely trust the reviewer to be independent, or decide not to, when it's not mentioned I always have this feeling people have something to hide.
Don't make this look like a shady practice when it in fact isn't, or at least not more than with all other sites that do exactly the same. You guys got bills to pay as well, there's no shame in that; your audience is mature enough to understand how these things work.
Re: Rumour: Could Battlefield 5 Whisk You Back to World War I?
Re: PS4 Fans Are So Mad at PlayStation Plus They're Making Parodies
Re: So, Uncharted 4 Has Apparently Stolen Some Assassin's Creed Artwork
Omg serious? Ubibore director of the most boring Ip is going to complain? Maybe steal the Uncharted engine instead of delevering games like unity.
Re: Weird PS4 RPG The Technomancer Is Starting to Grab Our Attention
Re: Weird PS4 RPG The Technomancer Is Starting to Grab Our Attention
Wasn't Total Recall at some point gonna be called "The Technomancer"?
Re: PlayStation VR Will Dominate Space if Less Than $500, Says Pachter
@Neolit
My point exactly!
Re: Review: Far Cry Primal (PS4)
@AlexStinton
Re: Your PS4 PlayStation Plus Freebie for March Has Been Decided
@Johnnycide
I think there's a good chance Action Henk came in second because of people who also played the game on steam and know how good it actually is. We had multiple games like Broforce and we just had Helldivers, so Action Henk should've made the cut imo because it brings something different to the table. It does require skill btw and is extremely fun to play with others... I hope the discounted price won't be too high so people can still enjoy it.
Re: Feature: Happy 4th Birthday, PlayStation Vita
Best. Handheld. Ever.
Re: BioShock: The Collection PS4 Rating Reveals Rapture Return
@Grawlog
Re: ADR1FT Drags Out the Obligatory Clair de Lune Trailer
Adrift on the PS4 for $15? Meh, I'll wait till it's $5.
Adrift on PS VR for $60? Insta-buy!
That's the power of VR, it can take a normal game and make it into an "experience". It'll take at least another 30 years before I'm actually floating in space myself, but till that time it'll be so awesome to float around in this game. VR will change walking, racing, flying and floating sims forever!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 106
Alex Stinton won this round! Lol!
Re: Street Fighter V Seems to Be Fighting Fit on PS4 Now
@Gamer83
Re: Street Fighter V Seems to Be Fighting Fit on PS4 Now
@OrangeBagels
Re: Street Fighter V's PS4 Servers Are Proving Flimsier Than Dhalsim's Limbs
Re: Review: Layers of Fear (PS4)
@get2sammyb
I think all the nay-sayers just need VR to be totally drawn in.

There was just no way that an idea like this could actually end up being funny... Yet it totally did!
Re: PSN Down As Dreaded Maintenance Returns Yet Again
@Tasuki
Is your Blops 3 multi player working like it should? Since the latest patch I'm experiencing lots of lag and this evening in particular the lagspikes make it unplayable.
Re: Infinity Ward to Lay Its Ghosts to Rest with New Call of Duty for PS4
Re: Reaction: Why Sony Won't Deploy PS4 Exclusives on PC
Re: PlayStation Radio UK Wants Your Ears
@benrawr
Are you Simon? So you actually exist then? I honestly thought it was just Ben talking to himself on the podcast for all these years. Or that maybe there is no Ben, but just Simon.
Or maybe both aren't real and it's just Sammy Barker and his many personalities running a site, making the best videos in the bizz, producing and starring in a podcast (twice) and selling shawarma to drunk people on some Newcastle streetcorner to make ends meet...
Re: PlayStation Radio UK Wants Your Ears
@benrawr
I have the sneaking suspicion that a certain podcast host/ video voice-over extraordinaire has multiple accounts
Re: PlayStation Radio UK Wants Your Ears
I wonder why he only does podcasts and voice overs....

Re: Don't Throw Out Your PS3 Fight Sticks! Street Fighter V Will Support 'Em
@belmont
Re: Capcom Copyright Suggests PS4 Exclusive Deep Down Isn't Dead Yet
@get2sammyb
It might if they have let go of their own engine and switched to the savior of Japanese game development: Unreal Engine 4.

A kitten? Are you mad? Ever stared in the eyes of a cat longer than 5 seconds?? People are so blind these days: fight the demon with Lucifer himself...
Re: Review: Firewatch (PS4)
Can't say I'm not disappointed by what I've read so far. Even in the better scoring reviews the same cons shine through as do here and for a game that I thought that would be the first walking sim I'd enjoy, that's a real shame. From earlier footage I've seen there was this feeling of impending doom caused by the setting and the loneliness that creeps up, but apparently they don't do anything with the great atmosphere that's been set.
I'll get it when it's on sale (and when/ if it's been patched)
Re: Round Up: Unravel PS4 Reviews Reveal EA's Epic Yarn

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Awakening (PS4)
@Anchorsam_9
Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Awakening (PS4)
@Anchorsam_9
Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly agree with you! I do think however that in the end we are holding on to a time that seems to be long gone and that DLC like TW's are more of an exception than the rule.
Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Awakening (PS4)
@Anchorsam_9
