Re: Naughty Dog Co-President Christophe Balestra Retires

@SuperSilverback A Silverback is kind of a racial slur where I live I myself for instance am colored and a pretty big guy, so friends call me Silverback lots of times... just not my white friends

So when I saw your pic, looking all manly and South African with the beard and what not, it made me laugh way harder than I should because I could picture you going around town with that nickname.

Just to make sure: I'm not at all offended obviously, no one should be, but I just have a vivid imagination and I pictured a scenario where Harambe's unfortunate death could actually save a white man's life in some neighborhoods

Crumbs in the bed are just the worst! I have kids who like to "surprise" me at 6:30am on a Sunday morning, but the minute they set foot in our bedroom with food, I'm up, putting my clothes on and ready for breakfast.... in the kitchen. If I so much as feel a grain sand or a breadcrumb in my bed I can't sleep.

Re: PlayStation's Still Patting Nintendo on the Back

Boerewors

With the launch of the Switch we've also seen a magical thing happen right here at PushSquare; the Switch is the first time PushSquare has officially acknowledged the existence of another console outside of the Sony ones.

What is this, Nintendolife?

Re: Poll: Will Your PS4 Gather Dust Now the Nintendo Switch Is Out?

Boerewors

The Switch ain't nothing but some piece of overhyped cheap plastic! Just gimme some FauxK graphics in games that take us back to the glory years of the PS3 thematically and in terms of gameplay!

The Wii U sold like 750k units or something? The PS4 sells about 100 million a year. Nobody cares about your Mario player... statistics don't lie, Nintanboys!

And all that BS about HZD vs BotW... Horizon Zero Dawn? More like Horizon 0 F*x, cause that's how it cares bout MetaSh*tic.

Re: Sony Temporarily Cuts PS4's Price in Europe to Counter Nintendo Switch

Boerewors

Lol... these reactions here about something someone read somewhere on some forum... Christ, get a hold of yourselves. Why can't the 2 coexist?

I've ordered 10 Glacier White PS4s in Holland for myself, family and friends for as little as €188 a pop and although I'm glad we've been giving this opportunity instead of paying €400- €450 back home, I feel the price is too low. This race to the bottom these console manufacturers are in seems good for consumers now, but it's poisoning the very well we drink from. Having the Slim model PS4 drop over €100 in price within 6 months undermines the value of the PS brand and consoles in general. Sony is in a position where they can take a little hit, but there is no way up from this. What's left for Black Friday, €150?

It will hardly take any wind out of Nintendo's sails (and sales), because it isn't what you call a good proposition for non- Nintendo fans; I don't expect a lot of casual gamers or other console owners to buy a Switch just yet, they'll probably wait for a better deal anyway. Surely, Nintendo will have to follow suit shortly and will be forced to drop their price significantly before the holiday season starts because of this stunt, but let's just hope this won't be a Pyrrhic victory in the end for Sony.

Re: Review: Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

Boerewors

I've been looking forward to Zelda Breath of the Wild for so long now, whereas Horizon kinda went off the radar after I heard some stuff that could potentially harm the funfactor of the game.

I'm extremely lucky to be in the enviable position where I've got to play Horizon Zero Dawn extensively (28 hours) and where I'm currently invested in Zelda. I know this comparison might sound a bit far fetched, but while playing through Zelda this evening I couldn't stop thinking bout Aloy, bout the beautiful world of Horizon and about the story that unfolded; I've heard comparisons to Tomb Raider, to Uncharted, to GoW, to Far Cry and even to Dark Souls for reasons that are unknown to me, but I think that PlayStation finally found its very own "Zelda".

It isn't about the money, it's about reputation. It's better to flush 100 million down the drain, than to put your weight behind a game that bombs. We've seen with the launch of the One what a company's reputation can mean in this industry, something Sony also had to learn the hard way.

Sony's 1st parties have been wasting money for years, but those times are long gone. I know quite a few stories about Sony and MS's internal development teams and how money never was an issue for them; a successful lean and mean studio could be bought and transform into a complacent money- drain in a few years because Sony wasn't keeping them on a tight leash.

This hands- off approach led to some of the best games we've seen so far, but it also facilitated laziness and burning through Sony's money.

Re: Art from Sony Santa Monica's Cancelled PS4 Game Surfaces

Boerewors

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi

The damage a mediocre or even bad game can do to a brand is ultimately more important for these companies than the 100 million. In the end Destiny alone probably ended up making Sony the cost of canning that game back, so if the game was just 'Destiny's retarted little brother' it's for the best it didn't see the light of day.

This doesn't mean that wasting 100 million is something that simply is "part of the business"; the project should've been terminated in an earlier stage. These sort of projects and throwing money down an endless well is emblematic of the old PlayStation and Sony in general, behavior that has its roots in the 80s and 90s where there was just money to burn in Japan. Sony closed down or sold a lot of studios since the end of the PS3 era and although this means that we won't see as much crazy, expirimental stuff as we're used to, we do get a company that's highly profitable in return that every blue moon makes a crazy game or peripheral instead of multiple a year.

Maybe if we would get of our phat *sses and stop eating chicken and watermelon all day long, we would own banks, insurance companies and moviestudios and could make other people's life miserable by filling them with guilt as well....

NZ is an odd place to live in where immense beauty and also kindness from lots of locals meets theft, alcoholism and assault & battery. Where in Japan do you live?

What did you expect from them kiwis? Stole many a victory on the Rugby field against us, so I'm not surprised at all.

Re: Puyo Puyo Tetris Drops onto PS4 from 25th April

Boerewors

@get2sammyb
Ubisoft holds the Tetris IP license in the West and made it impossible for this game to launch previously. Now Sega made a deal with Ubisoft so they can release this game here, but maybe they wanted to protect their own Tetris game in some sort of an awkward way; the moment PuyoPuyoTetris is downloadable on the PS4, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to buy the Ubisoft published Tetris game.

By raising silly 'hurdles' like these there isn't coming as much money in the pockets of Sega because they have release it physically. They'll make the game more expensive to recoup some of the cost so that it won't be a direct competitor of the Ubi Tetris. Since that game hasn't launched on the Switch yet I can understand that Ubi negotiated a different deal out of it for that console.

Re: Video: There's One Thing That Still Worries Us About Horizon: Zero Dawn

Boerewors

Why are people here so overly defensive? Would you simply buy a game because it's a PS4 exclusive then? Aren't we allowed to expect a certain standard anymore?

This game was by far my most anticipated game of this generation, but boy am I glad the embargo of this game's preview got lifted yesterday so I can get my expectations in check. I for one did expect a game that had very smooth and meaningful interactions with characters like these, or writers and dece with the presence of mind to avoid it all together if it couldn't be done right, but I guess I'd better go in expecting Fallout than go in expecting TW3.

I know quite a few people who worked on this project and I really hope this game will be a smash hit if it were just for them, but I as a gamer who was so excited for Horizon can't just put my feelings about what I saw aside because I want it to succeed. I've watched every bit of footage I could get my hands on to try and see if I would warm up for the game a bit, but the more footage I saw, the more my excitement dwindled to be completely honest.

I'm probably the only one feeling this way, cause God forbid a Sony first party title will be a flop, but I'm glad there is such a thing as the internet because I would've felt really disillusioned if I'd played this side-quest day one.

Re: Hundreds Line Up for PlayStation VR Restock in Japan

Boerewors

@Rudy_Manchego @adf86
It's rumored that is a quality issue; there are retailers that had the headsets recalled and the shortages during the most important time of year are telling. This small batch of headsets is nothing more than a sign of good will towards Capcom, who just launched the biggest VR title to date.

What the widespread problem could be is unclear, but the drifting issue keeps on coming back in lots of reports. Ultimately you get just one shot at convincing people that VR is the future and if the technology fails, VR fails.

Re: PS4 Software Sales Exceed 400 Million, Console Sales Reach 53.4 million

Boerewors

@get2sammyb
Exactly! Although it's an impressive milestone to hit the 400million games, we mustn't forget that the indies who kinda replaced the Midway and THQ offerings are way cheaper and that prices of games are under extreme pressure these days. 5 million sold now means the same profit margin as 2 million sold back in the day, and that guesstimate might even be on the safe side.

Heavy hitters like FFXV, TF2, DE: M, DH2, GoW4, CoD: IW and BF1 () were being sold for half the RRP just a month or 2 months after launch, but are extremely expensive to make. The market is kinda fudged up at the moment, so attach rates in 2017 tell a totally different story than they did 15 years ago.

I probably own 75 games on my PS4 and Vita that I bought for less than $20, games that offer the same (or more) value as $60 games did back in the day. At first glance it looks like an excellent time to be a consumer these days, but I'm really afraid that the industry is heading for a fall in their 'race to the bottom'.

Re: PS4 and Nintendo Switch Need to Find a Balance in Japan

Boerewors

I hope the Switch picks up where the Vita left combined with some of Nintendo's finest. Although I don't even rule the possibility of a Vita 2 out anymore at this point, with Sony being crazy like that at times just to spite the competition, I think we should all be supportive of Nintendo's efforts. I said it before and I'll say it again: the Nintendo gamers of today, are the PlayStation gamers of tomorro

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?

Boerewors

I've been hearing several reports that Guerilla needs an extra month or 2, but I'm waiting for the delay to be announced since the beginning of December. With just a little more than a month to go till launch I wonder if they just settled on repairing the huge problems and fix the smaller bugs with a day one patch, because the game should be going gold at the end of January.

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated PS4 Games of 2017

Boerewors

2016 was the year in which Titanfall 2 ended up being my GOTY, a FPS for crying out loud! It wasn't a bad year for gaming or anything, but looking back on it I feel Dark Souls 3 ended up being more representative for the things to come than I first imagined: DS3 was a great game by any standard, but it was more like a "best of" album.

2016 was filled with those kind of games, from old rockbands singing their greatest hit in order not to disappoint the crowd, to coverbands bringing perfect renditions of someone else's work. It wasn't bad, but not a single game really took me by surprise.

VR changed that in a certain way, but I would almost say that it's a league of its own; although games like the surprisingly good RIGS made a real effort to make VR feel like actual gaming, I still very much consider it to be something else completely. But whether you look at it as a game or more like an experience, I think it's become evident that we need a real VR push to make this generation seem more than just 'gen PS3 2.0'; there are few PS4/ One games out there that do something that a PS3/ 360 couldn't do. Sure, some games increased the scope a bit and they obviously present better visuals, but I just miss being swept away by a game like so many PS3 games did.

Will 2017 be better? I don't know, but I do know that I'll be more hesitant when it comes to buying and pre ordering new games. I've hit a wall in 2016 because of games being pretty much versions of what I played in 2008 and I've seen prices of games plummet after just a week or 2 on the market last year, so playing the waiting game will net me some money as well. I hope Nintendo's Switch and Sony's 1st party efforts will revitalize the industry a bit, I believe it's much needed. It's hard not to be excited for Persona 5 and Nier obviously and Horizon: Zero Dawn could be an impressive game too if done right, although I've been hearing some negativity surrounding it. I just hope we'll still be getting some great VR experiences in between the good ol' games we love, so the industry is not just looking back while developing, but also looking forward at times.

Re: Some of These Plans for Final Fantasy XV Sound Insane

Boerewors

@Bliquid
I'd do the same if I were them, but they already ruled out the possibility of making it a 2 or 3 parter. They might regret that decision now, but I see them sticking to that plan. Although another "Versus" wouldn't be exactly like a "-2" I guess

Re: Final Fantasy XV Ships Over 6 Million Copies, Digital Sales Included

Boerewors

@Rudy_Manchego
It has the legs, it's Final Fantasy, but I wonder if that will be enough. The 10 million mark they need to hit is based on the sales of full priced games; if the game can't do 10 million at $60 they don't just lose an awful lot of money on XV, it actually means that putting out a FF game on this scale isn't profitable.

DLC probably won't cut it and I think the season pass sales are very low at this point, based on Tabatha's indecision how to release extra content. The game was on sale even before it launched at lots of retailers and after just 2 weeks I was able to gift someone a copy for just €30... there goes your profit.

Gamers say: "ha! Squeenix shipped them copies, so it's the retailers problem", but it doesn't work like that. If the retailers have to discount the price so heavily to sell through a certain game, they make a deal with the supplier; either they take some of the games back, or they have to offer a discount on the next batch of games (or anything else) the store is buying of them.

So I can see this game eventually doing 8, even 10 million, but they'll never make enough money to warrant a sequel of this scale. Maybe if Squeenix really believes in Tabatha's vision and is prepared to let him work his magic from day one so the game won't feel as patched together as FFXV, but I don't know if the FF brand is worth that much money to them after FFXV tbh.
