Re: Sony's Left Bloodborne Fans More Frustrated Than Ever Following Bluepoint Shutdown

theSpectre

I think Bloodborne might be getting a remake, but it would be getting made by FromSoftware themselves. Bluepoint could've done it. They could have any number of remakes from Sony's catalog. I know they were rumored to be working on Metal Gear Solid at one point. I thought they could have also been the perfect studio to make Uncharted 5 if Naughty Dog really doesn't want to. Alas, apparently Sony thought they should make a live service God of War game. Because that is apparently something they thought people would want.

@Godot25 Arkane Austin made a bad game. That part is true. It's also true that most of the blame lies with Bethesda for forcing that game on them. We've seen time and again now, great single player studios crushed by having to work on live-service multiplayer games. It happened to Arkane Austin. It happened to London Studio and Bend. Rocksteady has all but collapsed from it. Luckily, Naughty Dog saw the writing on the wall and canceled their game themselves (it would have been nice for them to learn that 4 years earlier). And now it's come for Bluepoint. I sincerely hope that Bend Studio is not the next domino to fall.

Re: Opinion: Sony's Disgraceful Bluepoint Closure Should Concern Every PS Studios Fan

Herman Hulst needs to go. I was initially happy when he was promoted, thinking it would be good to have some so close to game development. However, he has been a disaster. For a period of like 10-12 years (2009-2021), Playstation had the best run of the big 3. Ever since Jim Ryan took over, it's been one disaster after another. Closing down Firewalk was a no brainer after the Concord fiasco, but London Studio, Japan Studio, and now Bluepoint is unacceptable. The people at the top need to be held accountable too. They are the ones that greenlit these awful projects. Apparently, Herman Hulst was very bullish about Concord.

@Lysterao Yeah, that's why I said to a lesser extent MS was at fault. I believe there were reports from Arkane Austin employees that they hoped MS would cancel Redfall....instead they made it one of their premier exclusives. The Arkane Austin devs knew how terrible Redfall was. That debacle was entirely on Bethesda and Microsoft (again less on MS).

Re: Sony Makes Shocking Decision to Shut Down Bluepoint Games

theSpectre

@ShogunofSF No, this is the result of forcing a studio to make something they aren't experienced in. Arkane Austin was great at making single player, immersive sims (Prey). They had no business making a live service, multiplayer game. The game was so bad, it saw Arkane Austin lose over 70% of its staff. This entirely the fault of the publisher, not the developers.

Re: Sony Makes Shocking Decision to Shut Down Bluepoint Games

theSpectre

@Godot25 The Redfall debacle was not the fault of Arkane Austin. That is wholly on Bethesda and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft. Arkane Austin saw a 70% turnover of employees from the staff that released Prey to Redfall's disastrous launch. They were forced to make it. Just like it seems with Bluepoint stupidly making a GoW live service game that nobody asked for. Now they get the axe instead of working on something that could've been great like an Uncharted remake or a Bloodborne remake. I knew this acquisition war was bad from the start. Neither Microsoft nor Sony looks good out of this.

Re: Hands On: Highguard Is Real and Potentially Great on PS5

theSpectre

I played Concord for 3 hours and confirmed, what I already believed. It was not for me. The game was technically sound, highly polished (like all PS studios games), the gameplay was...fine. But the game was bland and derivative. Highguard looks pretty much the same...with horses. Not interested.

Re: Game Awards Closer Highguard Lives! PS5 Trophy List Live Now

@Oram77 They are just banking on nostalgia for the Marathon name. The original Marathon was a horror shooter set on a space ship, not too dissimilar to Doom or Dead Space. If that were the game we were getting, that would be amazing. The fact that whatever this is, is using the Marathon name is just an insult.

Re: Game Awards Closer Highguard Lives! PS5 Trophy List Live Now

This game is basically Concord 2.0. If it hadn't been the big closer at TGA, it would not have gotten anywhere near the level of vitriol that it has. We've seen this before. It's a game that no one wants to play. That's most likely why the devs have gone silent. Why they didn't expect that kind of response, I've no idea.
