I think Bloodborne might be getting a remake, but it would be getting made by FromSoftware themselves. Bluepoint could've done it. They could have any number of remakes from Sony's catalog. I know they were rumored to be working on Metal Gear Solid at one point. I thought they could have also been the perfect studio to make Uncharted 5 if Naughty Dog really doesn't want to. Alas, apparently Sony thought they should make a live service God of War game. Because that is apparently something they thought people would want.
@Godot25 Arkane Austin made a bad game. That part is true. It's also true that most of the blame lies with Bethesda for forcing that game on them. We've seen time and again now, great single player studios crushed by having to work on live-service multiplayer games. It happened to Arkane Austin. It happened to London Studio and Bend. Rocksteady has all but collapsed from it. Luckily, Naughty Dog saw the writing on the wall and canceled their game themselves (it would have been nice for them to learn that 4 years earlier). And now it's come for Bluepoint. I sincerely hope that Bend Studio is not the next domino to fall.
Herman Hulst needs to go. I was initially happy when he was promoted, thinking it would be good to have some so close to game development. However, he has been a disaster. For a period of like 10-12 years (2009-2021), Playstation had the best run of the big 3. Ever since Jim Ryan took over, it's been one disaster after another. Closing down Firewalk was a no brainer after the Concord fiasco, but London Studio, Japan Studio, and now Bluepoint is unacceptable. The people at the top need to be held accountable too. They are the ones that greenlit these awful projects. Apparently, Herman Hulst was very bullish about Concord.
@Lysterao Yeah, that's why I said to a lesser extent MS was at fault. I believe there were reports from Arkane Austin employees that they hoped MS would cancel Redfall....instead they made it one of their premier exclusives. The Arkane Austin devs knew how terrible Redfall was. That debacle was entirely on Bethesda and Microsoft (again less on MS).
@ShogunofSF No, this is the result of forcing a studio to make something they aren't experienced in. Arkane Austin was great at making single player, immersive sims (Prey). They had no business making a live service, multiplayer game. The game was so bad, it saw Arkane Austin lose over 70% of its staff. This entirely the fault of the publisher, not the developers.
@Godot25 The Redfall debacle was not the fault of Arkane Austin. That is wholly on Bethesda and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft. Arkane Austin saw a 70% turnover of employees from the staff that released Prey to Redfall's disastrous launch. They were forced to make it. Just like it seems with Bluepoint stupidly making a GoW live service game that nobody asked for. Now they get the axe instead of working on something that could've been great like an Uncharted remake or a Bloodborne remake. I knew this acquisition war was bad from the start. Neither Microsoft nor Sony looks good out of this.
We know Square Enix's game by now. They will still say it failed to reach sales targets. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and XVI both did fine as PS5 exclusives, despite what people may say. The series just doesn't have the same market value it once did.
Yawn, honestly couldn't care less. I don't like Bethesda games to begin with and from everything we've seen Starfield is the worst game they've ever made.
@Gelloh What does Factions have to do with that? It's 2 completely different developers. Naughty Dog themselves cancelled Factions 2 without input from Sony.
Where is Horizon 3?! Forbidden West was announced 3 years after Zero Dawn released. It's been nearly 4 since Forbidden West released. Since then, we've gotten a Horizon Lego game, a Horizon VR game, now 2 Horizon multiplayer games, but not a peep about Horizon 3.
This is basically a Concord situation. More people played Highguard because its free-to-play. Almost nobody was willing to fork over $40 to play Concord. Highguard was always DOA.
This makes a lot of sense. UE5 has proven to be problematic. Square Enix have gotten a lot out of Unreal Engine 4 and sticking with it creates a consistent visual style for all 3 games.
I played Concord for 3 hours and confirmed, what I already believed. It was not for me. The game was technically sound, highly polished (like all PS studios games), the gameplay was...fine. But the game was bland and derivative. Highguard looks pretty much the same...with horses. Not interested.
@Oram77 They are just banking on nostalgia for the Marathon name. The original Marathon was a horror shooter set on a space ship, not too dissimilar to Doom or Dead Space. If that were the game we were getting, that would be amazing. The fact that whatever this is, is using the Marathon name is just an insult.
This game is basically Concord 2.0. If it hadn't been the big closer at TGA, it would not have gotten anywhere near the level of vitriol that it has. We've seen this before. It's a game that no one wants to play. That's most likely why the devs have gone silent. Why they didn't expect that kind of response, I've no idea.
Not a bad lineup, at all. I'll definitely be trying out Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Does it have as much BS loot as all other Team Ninja Games? Soul Caliber 3 is great, but not as good as Soul Caliber II.
I wish The Legend of Dragoon had become a full franchise. As it is, Legend of Dragoon is still good (if not quite as good as it's contemporaries), and it would benefit from a full, FF7 style remake.
I honestly thought it was weird when Yakuza: Like a Dragon came with an English dub. It feels so weird to hear them speaking English. If the series were to bend to a western audience, it would lose all of its identity and just die off. Unrelated, I really hope they are prepping a remake of Yakuza Kenzan.
I will say that I wouldn't trust Konami with a new Metal Gear (I still believe that Physint is actually MGS 6). So, I'd rather they keep remaking the older games. Or just let me play MGS4 on PS5.
If there is gonna be a season 4, let it be set after Part II's story. Season 3 should wrap up Part II. Right now, I'm fearful that season 3 will be outright cancelled and Kaitlyn Dever won't get her chance to shine as Abby.
Let it go. It's a 7 year old game that has long since reached market saturation on Playstation and PC. More money for Insomniac and Sony mean more money for Spider-Man 3. Let it go to Switch 2, while we're at it. But let's be serious, we know the game won't sell on Xbox and won't be played if it's not on Game Pass. (see Final Fantasy XVI)
It was a good show, even if not everything was for me (Marvel Tokon). 007 First Light stole the show in my opinion and this was definitely one of Sony's better States of Play.

Re: Fastidiously Multiformat Square Enix Skips PS5 with Yet Another Game
@ThroughTheIris56 Didn't FFXVI sell a whomping 22,000 copies on Xbox? Clearly, that seems to be A-OK for SE.

So, does Geoff still want that apology?
Re: Splinter Cell's PS5 Remake Survives Significant Ubisoft Studio Cull
I guess this is good news. Are we ever going to see it Ubisoft? How long has it been since the game was announced? 5 years or something?

No, I have zero interest in Highguard. If it wasn't the last game shown at the game awards, I would've likely forgotten it even existed.
